This salon is close to my house and has a parking lot right beside it so it's very easy to get to and accessible. I went here in 2019 and then again today and both times I've been super pleased with my cut. I came to my appointment early (15 min) and they immediately got to me and Karen was very polite and attentive. She did exactly what I wanted, a big chop (5 inches!) and framed my face. Another thing I like is that they ask before they blow dry. I hate putting any heat on my hair and have a sensitive scalp so that was nice to avoid. No doubt, this is my new "spot." After recently moving to the area for school, I was in desperate need of a haircut. As I read all of the previous 5-star reviews, I felt like it was too good to be true. I called this morning, and they offered a few different time slots for the day previous places I had checked were booked for the week. As I walked in, I was greeted and seated almost immediately. The entire salon was pristine and had great lighting and decor as well. Laurie was absolutely incredible! All I needed was a few inches off, some layers, and a blow-dry. Maybe not too complicated, but she knew exactly what I wanted right away, and exceeded my expectation that a simple haircut means I wouldn't be absolutely thrilled. i went in for a cut style and blow dry. She did it all in less than 20 minutes. showed her a picture of what I wanted, instead of doing layers, she just gave trimmed the front shorter than then the rest. She did it all so rushed, didn't bother to put any styling products for frizz or to give volume so I left with flat hair that was frizzy, and had someone else check me out because she wanted to clean up. More focused on leaving for the day than on my hair. I could of gone to a SuperCuts and saved 50.00 for that kind of service. So be warned never be the last appointment of the day if you want what your paying for. Not impressed AT ALL by this particular stylist. read more

I'm not even sure if I have posted a review before, but after my third appointment with Heather, I definitely need to. I moved to Medford and was looking for a good salon when I stumbled upon the positive yelp reviews for Hair's Karen, and I am so glad I did. I have never received so many compliments on my hair as I have since Heather started doing it. The color is gorgeous, and even though it is the lightest I have ever been, she does an amazing job at keeping the look very natural. My hair feels healthy and light and looks great even when it's not straight from the salon. I appreciate how thoughtful she is with my hair, and her attention-to-detail is amazing. She's quick and she asks the right questions to give amazing results! Also, the rest of the ladies in the salon are wonderful. Great salon. I needed a new hair salon and I landed on Hair's Karen because of the excellent Yelp reviews. The price was great and the salon is clean and bright. I visited for the first time during a windy snow/rain storm and it still felt bright and cheery! Christina did my hair and she was excellent. Beautiful color, beautiful cut. I love love it here. They are always friendly (and funny). I now take my daughter as a one stop stop and they welcomed her just as they welcomed me. Plus, they have lollipops, which is a huge selling point for her since I don't buy them for her. Back to the hair. I have a great cut, and when I mean great, I always get compliments on my hair and I have NO IDEA how to "do" hair. I run, I wet it and I go, and it looks great. When I make an attempt to style it myself it still looks good. Most important is something that looks great when I don't have time and that is what I have. Couldn't be happier. Absolutely wonderful local hair salon with down home West Medford flavor. I live around the corner and see this place daily so I called to inquire about getting my 6 month old son's hair cut....he has a lot of it & I just wanted to get it under control. Karen fit us in this afternoon even though they are slammed with cuts before the Christmas holiday. Everyone was so welcoming when we arrived and Karen was fabulous with my son! Of course, it helped that he was extremely well behaved and didn't make a peep. She never fought him to get him to do what she wanted, she just went with the flow. If he turned his head one way, she would just cut the other side and so on. His hair looks great. He looks like a little man now. All the ladies (from age 7 all the way up to 77!) were fawning over him and telling him how cute he looks. And he does....he looks super cute! We plan to return with his big brother. That'll be the real test! He's 20 months old with one heck of a cowlick and he's in a wheelchair. Karen was more than happy to take him on and told me to call them when we were on our way, so that they could unlock the back door which is handicap accessible. So sweet! The staff is what really make this place worthy of repeat business. The moment you walk in you are greeted with friendly smiles and a welcoming environment. I was able to get a seat in fifteen minutes without an appointment (note - I went at noon on a weekday) and got superb service. Being inept at words, I showed Lorie (not sure how she spells it) a picture of what I wanted and was able to receive a cut beyond satisfaction. She was eager to make sure I was happy with my hairdo and invited any adjustments I wanted. She even shampooed and rinsed my hair without adding to my bill. Highly recommended. read more

Just recently moved into the area, and read some great reviews about Shear Madness, and, as they are very affordable, my boyfriend and I stopped in there to get our hair trimmed. Bad decision! The poor parlor was swamped; the ladies told us they were booked for the whole afternoon & evening, and that they were understaffed. My dry, shedding, neglected locks hungering for attention, I asked if they had any suggestions; "Try Karen's around the corner!" said one of the stylists, and off we went. Karen's around the corner is excellent! They took both me and my boyfriend, and gave us exactly what we asked for. I have medium length hair, and told my stylist Christina that she had license to "cut to health" (which means she could have chopped off 3 inches, as long as the frayed, split ends were gone). She asked if I wanted any layers, and I told her I was very conservative; I'd take layers as long as they didn't careen too high. She paid attention to my wants and desires, and snipped off only that which needed snipping. She asked if I wanted my hair to be blown dry before starting (I presume this prob'ly costs a bit extra), and she blew my usually wavy/curly locks to the sleekest, straightest I've ever seen them. It's not my usual look, but she made me look so manicured that I loved it. My wash, cut, & blow dry came to $35.00, very economical in this day and age for "full service". My boyfriend got his hair trimmed just behind me at the same time, and I'm just going to tell you this, he has beautiful, curly hair, and my heart is always broken when he goes to places that shear him too closely. His stylist Jen was very conservative with his hair as well, shearing only that which had been growing unruly on the side, but leaving his beautiful curls longer in the front. Thank you, Jen :). And it turns out, Jen is our new neighbor here in Massachusetts, too, and for all I know, she can see me writing this on my PC from the large windows she has that face my own house, ha ha ha. I've only been in Massachusetts for 5 days (just moved here from Brooklyn), and every day I fall a little more in love. Hair's Karen comes highly recommended from both me and my boyfriend! I got what I want! I have been wearing my short hair more-or-less the same for decades, but fail to find hair dressers who are willing or able to cut it as I request. As I need to cut it every 4 or 5 weeks, I am relieved to have found Karen, at Hair's Karen. She has reasonable prices (important with short, frequently cut hair), but more importantly she is attentive to my requests. And most of all, she has the skills to pull it off. I'm far from being any sort of fashionable human being, but going into this place always makes me feel like I am. The staff are more than just polite, they actually care about who you are and make efforts to get to know you, even more than just your usual stylist. They're funny, friendly, and amazingly talented. They always have fantastic ideas for what to do, even when you may not, and I really have to reiterate they are some of the friendliest people I've met. I'm very low maintenance when it comes to my haircuts, usually just looking for a basic trim and nothing fancy but don't like settling for a SuperCuts either as my hair is thick and can be a little tough to manage. Made an appointment here after reading their reviews and loved it! Jen was great and continually checked in with me as she was cutting my hair. $25 for a wash and cut with no blow dry! Being that I just had my 3rd baby in 4 years and am suffering from a severe case of post pregnancy hair loss I made an appointment at Hair's Karen in desperate need for some hair TLC. I must admit I was in a rut and I was convinced that it would take a lot to make me look even halfway decent since I lost so much hair especially along my hairline. I was blessed to have had my appointment with Lindsey. I walked in, voiced all of my concerns and had no idea about what to even do with my hair. Lindsey worked with me, voiced her opinion, we came up with a plan for my locks and she went to work. When she was done, I just about cried! I felt beautiful and she made it so that my hair loss wasn't visible at all!!!! She worked magic! All of the ladies there were uber friendly. I was so happy to be back to this salon, however it is not the case anymore. First time I have been here Karen took care of me and she made me to feel so special. It was the small little mirror that she put in my back to show me how it looks the haircut, she was so sweet and she gave me her opinion about how much to cut , she even style it a little bit without even asking short story I went outside feeling princess. I wanted to come back and Karen schedule wasn't matching with mine and I trust the reviews and let the salon chose someone else. She was nice, but she rushed so much. She pulled my hair so many times , she blow dried it so bad( me without experience I am blow drying it home with more volume and shape ) she didn't even bother to show me how it looks at the end from the back(it was the story that if I want to change something after she blow dry it we will decide but I guess she didn't care to ask me what I feel after). I've gone to them about 4 times since moving near by. I normally see whoever is available and have had great experience with everyone there. I started off by having them cut off my hair that was past my shoulders into a pixie cut. They did a wonderful job. I now go for maintenance every couple of months. Nicole is my girl!!!!!!!! She has taken 15 inches off my hair. Taken me from blonde to chestnut, to black, and all the way back to blonde. Every time I leave the salon after my hair appointment A random stranger says to me your hair looks great!!!! I have been going there for over 2years now every 4 to five weeks for color and a cut. My stylist is Karen. The salon itself is clean and all of the stylist make me feel welcome. I only wish I found them sooner. I spent 25years with mediocre stylists never getting complimented.
