I'm constantly impressed every time I come to Hairspace. I've tried many Tacoma salons over the years and I can't imagine ever going somewhere else again. The vibe is super welcoming and relaxing, I don't feel judged or like there's tension in the air at all. My hair has changed drastically over the last few years and my stylist always listens to my concerns and recommends products she thinks will truly help me. And there's never pressure to buy! I like that I can have her try something new in my hair and comeback after seeing how it looks and feels after being out in the world. I've added three amazing products to my hair care as a result of really good recommendations with my needs at the forefront. I would literally die for the Ref weightless volume shampoo! I love the bathroom as an eclectic homage to Tacoma and everything is always super clean. You can tell the owner and staff take such pride in their space they created and their work. She's taken me from bright copper red to platinum blonde to lavender and now on the brink of 50, she's teaching me how to let my hair grow older gracefully and most of all healthy. Great results every time! I have been seeing Theresa off and on for a few years now and she's always done an excellent job. I've had several different styles and she always listens to my ideas and they've all turned out perfect. I feel good whenever I leave her chair. I recommend her to everyone who cares about their hair. Street parking only which can be frustrating during peak times. The area is undergoing some revitalization so you will see some construction. Yes, there are struggling people walking around because there are social service agencies nearby and they may be trying to get help. There are some breweries in the area to treat yourself after your salon appointment! read more

I've been going to Teresa for over a year and she can perform magic. I've had blonde, black, ombré, violet, blue, and highlights. She's very accommodating and is very patient with my crazy requests. She doesn't try to CHOP my hair off and understands my needs. Location is ok, I wish it was a little better. Street parking only. Seems like a lot of junkies wandering around. The whole staff never speaks to each other, I don't get a feeling like I'm hanging with girlfriends while getting my hair done. The place is decorated nice and they don't try to up-sale me. I want to start off by saying this isn't the salon itself fault. I made an appointment for Wednesday June 17th at 10:00 am with Tommy Shine. I'm new to Tacoma and need to find a new stylist and after looking him up on Instagram I thought I'd try out his work. I will not be returning. I arrived at 9:45 after grabbing a coffee to be ready and because I was really excited to get my hair done, as it's something I really don't do often. With the new Covid guidelines, you stay in your car until they text you to come in. So I waited. At 10:10 I was confused as to why I hadn't been texted to enter yet, so I called the salon. I left a voicemail and they called me back shortly after saying he wasn't there and that they'd try to get ahold of him to call me. At 10:15 he called back and said he had no excuse but he forgot my appointment and forgot what day it was. That should have been my red flag to not go. But he asked if I could come back at 2:00 to which I agreed. I show up at 2:00, he texts me to come in around 2:10, and he does my hair. When I requested an appointment online it said the price was $145. A little pricy, but a good price for what I wanted. When I went to pay him, he tried to charge me $290. I told him what the website said and he told me they are their own contractors and they make their own prices. He called over another stylist and she said she'd charge $190, to which he came up with $210. Better than $290 so I paid and left. Once I got home, I really got a look at my hair. It's blotchy and the ends are all but fried. I am NOT happy and will never see him again. Please beware of this stylist. He's flaky and WAY overcharges, and honestly does not do as great a job as he claims. read more

Brooke is AMAZING with my 2c curly hair! I have tried several other stylists and she is the only one I trust to cut it properly. No wings and always layered so beautifully. She also has curls which is a huge plus when searching for a good curly stylist! Pricing is great and more affordable compared to other salons. She also offers dry cuts, which is very important for us curlies. Friendly and welcoming service! Highly recommend. read more

I scheduled my daughter to get a hair cut by Tommy. When I set it up, I told him that she had a sensitive head and coil like curls. He assured me he had done those cuts many times and kids always seemed to love him. I asked if there was any way I could get in earlier than my 2:30pm appt because it was my sons birthday and we were doing a party at 6pm in Kent, so I had to be done no later than 5pm. He told me to come at 2pm and could hopefully get us in sooner. He also said he thought it would only take between an hour and half and two hours so I should have plenty of time. So we arrived at 2pm and waited. And waited. And waited. Then at 3:15 he put us in a chair and we waited some more. Mind you, he had other people that he had apparently booked around the same time and one gal that came in after us and got seen before us. So, when he finally came over to the chair I said, I need to make sure that you can still do her haircut and have us out of here by 5pm. He assured me it would only take 45mins. And I said that's not what you told me over the phone. He again said it would only take 45mins and I reminded him that I had a birthday party that we had to be at. He said no problem I'll have you done by 5pm. So, needless to say we were there for 3 1/2 hours and my daughter did not get her hair even cut! He blew it out and started to straighten it, but didn't even get all that done by 5:15pm. I was furious! And he didn't even have the gaul to apologize. He made the excuse of just being human and he had already done 10 other people that day. His lack of planning and prioritizing wasted my 3 1/2 hours, caused my daughter to not get her hair cut, which was the whole reason we were there and made me late for my sons party! I have no idea how this man stays in business or why a business would want someone who treats people like this! Poorly done Tommy, poorly done! read more

I received my first cut and color there this week from Kim and I will definitely be returning! The atmosphere of the salon is so welcoming and honestly super cute. The playlist they use was really good too with catchy music. All of the products used smell divine, especially the aromatherapy shampoo and conditioner. And it left my hair feeling amazing. I also noticed the sinks they use to wash your hair are super comfortable, they don't leave that weird tension in your neck like a lot of salons (it seems trivial but I pay attention to little, helpful things like that when I'm receiving a service). Kim was incredible! I sent her photos of what I wanted before hand, and when I got there we talked about the process and she walked me through everything she was doing as she did it. She made sure I was comfortable the whole time and really made me feel relaxed, I swear I could have fallen asleep in her chair lol. Blo Hair Lounge is a great new business just down street from where I have lived in the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma for over 12 years. I am so glad that this hair lounge has come to our neighborhood! It is not only beautiful inside but also has a wonderful view and a wonderful owner, Melissa, is gracious, accommodating and a great listener and more importantly an excellent stylist. While I talked she cut and styled my hair and before I knew it I had the hair style I wanted. A great experience and an enjoyable atmosphere plus she is very locally minded and we both spoke about the environment which her products she mindfully has chosen in order to protect the environment. Very relaxing, friendly and welcoming. I recommend anyone to go check out Blo Hair Lounge on Tacoma Avenue because it really is an experience that is new, refreshing and exciting for our neighborhood. read more
