This owner apparently doesn't care for new clients...been wanting to try or this salon for a month and no appointment was ever kept because he just books for a 30 min time slot for three services as published in Groupon! I just decided to go to my usual ""Christopher Street Salon"" in Dix Hills and they did a superb job BRAVO !!! Glad I returned the Groupon as Roy had instructed, since for two hours my hairstylist there received an appreciative $20 tip ;)) She blew out my hair after a very technical cut and I got so many compliments at work! I bought a Groupon for a cut and blow dry, and I'm so glad I did! When I called to make the appointment, I spoke with a very friendly guy (who I later realized was the owner) and he managed to get me in the very next day! I was warmly greeted when I walked in the door, and immediately taken to get my hair washed. The salon was beautifully decorated, and the owner remembered me from my 2 minute phone call, which impressed me. The woman who washed my hair was friendly and gentle, and Jess was amazingly patient with me, providing a beautiful new style, even adjusting the style and length of my bangs when I requested. I heard great things about Hairvana from a friend, so I bought the groupon. Unfortunately it took almost a week to even get in touch with someone to make an appointment. They did eventually call back and I had an appointment for today. When I got to my 2pm appointment, I was told it was cancelled and that they had called and left a message(they had a completely wrong # for me despite having called me yesterday). I was told they overbooked the appointments while the entire staff was on vacation (the same thing my friend was told 2 weeks ago). Sadly, I did not receive the message and had already taken off work for this appointment. They were unable to rebook me until next week when I don't have availability and will be leaving town. Thankfully groupon was able to refund me. I wish I could have gotten a cut because I would have liked to try them out, just can't risk it with my tight schedule this time of year. Seems like scheduling is an issue, so if you have the groupon just make sure you give yourself plenty of time for similar situations. read more

Avoid this place.. they are selling groupons and will give you crappy service when they find out you are there on a groupon. I had highlighting done, and Roy, the owner burnt my hair. He put me under the dryer and never came back to check on how my haircolor was lifting, until it was too late. His haircut, is no better...chopped up. He either did it on purpose or he just sucks at hairstyling. The owner, Roy, bad-mouthed the clients who come there on a groupon and expect to get top-notch service. The place was old looking and EMPTY. No staff, (creepy) kept saying he fired everyone. But if you look at reviews, he has been saying that for a while. I called Groupon about this merchant as well and reported that they are misleading the public about their services. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would! What a nightmare!! Never, ever, ever have I had such a poor experience at a salon. Bought a groupon for partial highlight and cut. Thought I'd try somewhere new! The owner, Roy, did my hair. I should have known there was a problem when my hair was being blown out after only 40 mins of being in the salon! Normally it takes 2-3 hours. When Roy was blowing out my hair, I noticed my normally brown hair was PINK!! When I said something, his response was"you're right but only in bright lights and in the sun". And he continued to blow out my hair!! Horrified, I said thats unacceptable!! He then huffed as he brought me back to color my hair again. This time, it was magenta!!! My blonde highlights were gone, and my hair was magenta( and light brown underneath). By now I was hysterical crying in his chair. I get my hair highlighted every 6-8 weeks for the last 10 years or so. Never, never has my hair had any red tones. He actually left me leave his salon hysterical crying with magenta hair. I expressed that I was going to have to get it fixed elsewhere. He stuffed $100 in my hands and said good luck. I then spent 6.5 hours the following day in a different salon trying to fix the mess! And... It cost me $291+ tips to fix it!! They had to remove the color and then do a full high/low light on my hair. And then fix the cut!! I much prefer places like this one- I refer to as the small high end-esq salon---As opposed to the giant high end salon which will cost an arm and a leg and will not nearly be as personal... Little bit of advice....some of the best and hard working talent around can be found in the smaller places...as is in this case- I decided to try out a groupon for Hairvana on a hunch today as I am still on my quest for a place closer to home other than my orginal favorite up in northport. I have to say, Upon meeting Roy madr, the new owner I was immediately so comfortable. This is a new location and he is a doll- he understands what a woman needs and seems to be one of the least judgmental stylists I have met. The staff treat each other with respect and kindness. I can tell Roy sees this small staff as his family and vice versa. What a lovely unexpected chance to relax. No uncomfortable cold stares, no chaos (yet)---This is relatively new and a work in progress and little by little he is making changes amidst taking excellent care of every person who walks through the door. My high lights look amazing and I have to say Id rather give my hard earned money towards the future of this small special place and owner than almost anywhere I have been too. Used the groupon and tried out this salon. It was a great experience. I made the appointment with Roy, the owner, and I had my hair done by Carolyn. My hair takes a long time to color and I didn't feel rushed at all. The salon itself is adorable and more quaint than most of your run-of-the-mill salons. They make you feel right at home and I enjoyed my time there almost as much as I love my new color and cut. I'll be back! read more

When I pulled into the parking lot, I actually thought the place went under since there is an out of business sign right next door and its been a little challenging getting someone on the phone for an appointment. I purchased a groupon and was told on the phone by Roy the owner that there would be an up charge of $25 to $30 if my hair was longer than my shoulders. I was not surprised when Carolyn the stylist told me it would be an additional $30. I have to say it was a very nice experience, quaint place as someone previously mentioned and just down to earth stylists. Carolyn was very personable and listened clearly to the color I wanted. She is the first stylist in a long time that did not over process my hair. I was also told by Carolyn they would honor the same groupon every 3 months which I thought was very smart. It's easy to park in the lot, the place is very stylish and clean, you even get greeted by the owners mini pin dog Sasha when you enter and the staff is talented and friendly. Roy did a good job on my hair. The reason for the 3 star rating is because of few things... I have curly hair and he did a mediocre job on the blowout and I felt the whole process was rushed. I don't mind quick service don't get me wrong, but at least do a great job. He had another lady he was working on that his assistant was helping him out with - and he didn't take the time needed to blow out curly type hair. Also, the place seemed understaffed. He said he recently got rid of a bunch of employees, but that's not my business and it doesn't give him an excuse to treat new customers less than because they have a coupon. All in all my hair came out decent and I actually love the actual haircut, but when I went to give him my tip I handed him a $20 and before I could even ask for a $5 back he was thanking me... it's very tacky to assume the whole bill is for you in any service industry (Am I right?). So, yea he was a riot to talk to, the staff that he DID have was friendly but I had some turn-offs about it. Maybe I'll give it a second chance in the future. read more

Probably the best haircutting experience I've ever had! Bought a Groupon for a great deal which included cut, wash, blow dry, and partial highlights. Within 2 minutes of me sitting down in a chair I was offered a glass of wine (which after a hard day at work, was most welcome)! Jess did the most amazing job on both my haircut and highlights. I have had my hair highlighted before many times and it has NEVER looked this good. She even put beautiful waves in my hair, which she totally didn't have to do! I will definitely be going back! DO NOT BUY THEIR GROUPON!! The whole ad is very MISLEADING. Especially if you have long hair. Their up charge is absurd. The guy who runs the place Roy is a total snob! Right out of the gates he gave me a attitude and made me feel very uncomfortable. As soon as I sat In the chair.I asked him if he would please double cape me because I have long hair and he said "please let me do my job". Then when I wouldn't agree to the ridiculous up charge and Six foils which is called a "partial highlight" He told his hairdresser to take my cape off and let her go get her money back from Groupon. Roy he has earned a loyal customer! He is amazing and very personable. I felt very comfortable with him and my hair as I can be extremely picky. His service was not compromised due to the inexpensive price of his Groupon. I was done within an hour and a half with a full head of highlights, new haircut and a blow out. They really deserve 0 stars. Upon entering it's in a run down shop which is surprising for Smithtown. It's very dark the inside of the salon. I bought the Groupon with a friend and we both made our appointment A MONTH in advance. This place isn't by any means close to me but I figured since the Groupon SEEMED like a great deal why not try it? ! When we walked in Noone acknowledged us. Lol seriously no one. The only 2 hair stylists there were JUST STARTING clients hair. And you expect to wash,cut,highlight, and blowout our hair too? Lol ok. The owner Roy's first words were to tell me he was charging us a extra 30-40 dollars for having "long hair". I've never in my life been charged for that. Even at salons that served me drinks while I got my hair done have I ever been charged that much for length. My friend had short wavy hair and he tried charging her for the texture. AND THAT MY FRIEND IS HOW THEY FALSE ADVERTISE THEIR GROUPON PRICE. He said if I had a problem then leave and get a refund. We left. Groupon didn't want to give back the money because it says on the fine print they can charge extra for that. But it does not say 40 dollars extra. After much dispute we eventually got groupon credit for what we paid. Roy was nasty and I would never go back. I don't know how they even have a business.
