My friends and I came here to celebrate my birthday and we had so much fun! They were playing hits from the 70s and 80s and the owner was showing off his yo-yo skills. We originally sat outside but it was a little noisy with the cars going by at the stop light. We moved inside and had the best time. The service was great! Our waitress was so nice and attentive. I ordered Loni's red flight, one of my friends ordered the pomegranate hibiscus fizz with tequila instead of vodka, and my other friend ordered Trista's white flight. We got the crispy Brussel sprouts to start with and they were delicious. For our entrees we ordered the Mediterranean rice bowl, beer battered fish and chips, and the zesty chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. All three were really good and full of flavor. Once we finished eating the table was cleared and then I ordered a slice of carrot cake. When it was brought out they had added a candle and came over to sing happy birthday to me, including the owner, and it was the perfect finish to our dinner. The cake was amazing! Hairy Tony's is a bit of a mixed bag. The service was genuinely friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. If you're stopping in for a drink and to hang out, it's probably a solid spot. The food, though, was a major letdown. My steak sandwich was disappointing, and the "side" of onion rings was literally four individual pieces. Four. That's not a side -- that's a garnish. The nachos were worse. Lukewarm Velveeta poured over completely unseasoned shredded chicken, brown guacamole that looked like it had been sitting out too long, and everything about it felt rushed -- like it was thrown together in two minutes without a second thought. The emphasis was clearly on quantity over quality. Her chicken sandwich wasn't any better -- bland, unseasoned, and somehow still had the pattern from the frozen packaging imprinted on the bottom. That's not a great sign. Bottom line: nice place to grab a drink. But unless you're already inebriated and not paying attention, I'd skip the food. read more

We went here for a late Valentine's Day outing. We arrived after noon and were greeted immediately upon walking in the door. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We have been here before but since today was Sunday we had a choice between their normal menu and brunch. What a nice option. My husband and I had brunch. Loved this place! So laid back, bar room feel, but right time of day can be a family friendly place to eat. They had raw oysters which is hard to find in the area so I was instantly in love. The ribs were to die for, came right off the bone. They have a full bar but you can order special cocktails that are unique and fun. The place is a little on the pricey side but I loved every dish I had so very worth it! The service was great. The woman was very attentive, asked if we were doing okay, always had an answer or recommendation, and she was very pleasant. Now I know not to just go here for drinks! Okay this place took me by surprise. I thought for sure that I was walking into a crappy bar filled with drunken college kids that served crappy food. I couldn't have been more wrong. The menu has a wide variety of interesting options. We started with wings. They were crispy and flavorful and cooked to perfection. I went with the Mediterranean chicken bowl and it was off the charts. Our party also had the lettuce wraps and a burger. All cooked perfectly. Service was excellent and the ambiance was great. We had great cocktails and dinner here. I started off with a chocolate martini, which was delicious. Perfectly done. We ordered bowls of chicken chipotle chowder and French onion soup for starters. Both soups were absolutely delicious! Very well done. For entrées, I ordered the shepherds pie and my friend got the fish taco and honey chicken taco. Shepherds pie was really delicious in which Guinness stout gravy. Just perfect and cheesy. The tacos were very good, and well prepared. Stopped in Cortland today for lunch. This place has a bunch of wine and cocktail flights but I decided to have a calm Monday and stick with water lol. I'm sure it's popular with the students in the area. Wasn't very busy today. I had French onion soup with the grilled chicken wrap and sweet potato fries. They offer a small lunch menu in addition to their regular menu. Everything was very good and well-priced. I would've loved a spicy mayo on the wrap but that's just personal preference. Visiting Cortland for the first time and had heard this was the spot for nachos, their fries and drinks, and this place is! My husband and I were able to snag a table outside and had fun watching all the college kids walk by on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Being outside we still had great attentive service, and our waitress checked back with us several times! Had read in a newspaper article about their crisp shoestring fries so ordered them as a side, and they came out piping hot and delicious. They were some delicious fries! The giant nacho platter had also been mentioned in that same news article. It is giant (served in a paella platter) and delicious. They do not skimp on the toppings! Not sure why but decided to order their shrimp tacos at the last minute, and they were good too! Packed them up to go, and were still yummy reheated. They have a very extensive drink list, being a college town and all. I enjoyed one of their mojito flights and it was yummy. They have quite a few drink flights to choose from. Our favorite restaurant--not only in Cortland but Central New York. We have never been disappointed by the food or service and the drinks are unique and fun. Whenever we have friends and family in town and we go out--this is the place we go. The salads, lettuce wraps and burgers are great and the seafood and steaks are really good. We always get clams in the wine and garlic sauce and our last visit had the catfish fingers which were phenomenal. Please go! read more

On our way up to the St. Lawrence Seaway, we stopped in Cortland to see the 1890 mansion and had lunch at Harry Tony's. There's a lot of construction why they redo the center in town Street and sidewalks over but we were able to get in and we're very happy we did, the food was phenomenal. Service was great. My family and I were staying at the Hope Lake Lodge for Memorial Day weekend and struggling to find a place with decent food in the Cortland area. Most places did not take reservations for our party of 9, so we opted for takeout from Hairy Tony's. Ordering through the website was seamless, and food was ready within 30 mins. For our party of 9, we ordered a little bit of everything. Generally, the entrees come in generous portions and can feed at least 2 people, except for the New Orleans pasta, which was disappointingly small for its $21 price tag. We ordered: -Cobb Salad: delicious! Fresh lettuce, generous cuts of what looked like a whole avocado, grilled chicken strips, lots of eggs, bacon, cheese, and tomato. -Fried Cauliflower Duo: I loved the flavors of this dish, but it was so soggy it detracted from the experience. I think it got soggy because we picked up the food late, but I couldn't detect any crisp at all! There weren't even any remnants of crispy dough. The garlic - buffalo sauce and honey teriyaki sauce were bomb though ! - Tony's Burger: I didn't try this but my family said the beef patty was bland. -Shoestring Fries: Huge portion, but really just regular fries. Nothing special or notable. -Marinated Steak Quesadilla: The flavor was ok but the steak was way overcooked, on the level of well done. Not my preferred style. -New Orleans Pasta: everyone's least favorite dish. The sauce on this dish has the flavor of an intense, overpowering a la vodka sauce. It was too strong to be enjoyable. -Nachos muy grande: tortilla chips with melted cheese, pork, salsa, guacamole, jalapeños, sour cream, onions. Very generous portion, and pretty fun to eat, as you get to load up your nacho with your choice of items. -Mac and Cheese: tastes like your basic mac and cheese, with a gluttonous amount of gooey cheese sauce. Not bad, but lacking something to give it that extra oomf. -Shrimp Tacos: one order has two tacos. Didn't try it, but my family said they tasted just OK. Hairy Tony's is a great spot to order shareable dishes for a large party. They have a variety of American bar/pub style dishes that make for a well rounded meal. The dishes tasted okay, and the price and portions were extremely fair. read more

Went for lunch mid-week. Lots of regulars eating and drinking at the bar. Floors weren't too clean but it is a sports bar scene. High ceilings, big windows. Lots of big screen TV's with different sports playing on each one. Nice waitress. Had to return my Bloody Mary, tasted like plain tomato juice and hot sauce. They returned my drink and I decided to get a cocktail instead. Second drink was good. Average food, I think I got a sandwich and fries. Read some good reviews and figured I'd give it a shot a couple of weeks ago while visiting SUNY Cortland for my daughter. It was unusually mild out so we sat at a table right outside and in front. I ordered a burger. My daughter, a salad. They were both awesome. Flavorful and mine was cooked to perfection. The owner came by and we chatted a bit. Nice, personable guy. My wife and I have been to Cortland a number of times to visit our son, and this turned out to be one of the better places in close proximity to the university. Food was excellent, portions are very large and filling. My wife had the short rib bowl and it was amazing. Kids had pulled pork sandwiches that they couldn't finish. My MIL had the biggest Cobb salad I've ever seen. Very fresh. I had the haddock fish fry which was very good, although the beer batter was not quite as light as I prefer it - but it was still very good. Beer was cold and tasty. The service is where this place continues to shine. We were there on a busy Saturday, there was a 20-top seated just ahead of us, and several other parties in the place. From the first interaction staff was friendly and helpful. Our waitress Katie got our orders in quickly so we wouldn't have to wait for the large party, and then thanked us as if we'd done her a favor.
