Stopped by Hobo's on a weeknight. Service was fast and friendly. The sangria was flavorful and I loved the addition of different types of fruit! They had an option between a red or white sangria. They have a WIDE variety of alcoholic beverages available. Almost a whole page of the menu was dedicated to this. We both had sandwiches and were happy with them! The turkey club was huge and I was more than full from half of it. The chicken sandwich was also pretty good and my gentleman enjoyed it. We ordered poutine as a side which was hot, salty, and savory. The gravy was flavorful and the cheese curds were nicely melted. The fries were clearly hand-cut which is a great touch! Let me start this with a qualifier...the three star rating for me is an average overall experience, and that's exactly what I had tonight at Hobo's. It's not that the food was bad, but it was nothing special nor was it anything that would compel me to venture back from Marcellus. But, if I were in the Homer area and hungry I would consider a repeat visit. The service was the highlight of the night. Our Server was friendly, polite and helpful. Never missing a refill opportunity and ensuring we were happy campers. The price points were a little high for the overall food experience. My son ordered chicken tenders with fries and a side of fried Mac-N-Cheese balls and I had a burger with fries. We both had a beverage (nonalcoholic for us both) and with tip we were just over $50.00. At that price point coupled with existing reviews I'd expect more. The chicken fingers/tenders/strips were the same Cisco offerings available at so many other restaurants. There was nothing that set these apart from anyone else's frozen ready to cook pull from the bag and throw in the fryer chicken strips - same old same old. The Mac-N-Cheese balls was the highlight of my sons meal. My burger was good, but not overwhelmingly so. I enjoyed it, but the entire time I ate it I was left wondering...what awards did they win for best burger and what was their competition. Sorry, but if you advertise that, you need to back it up. Let's start out I never give five stars , my wife and I where in Cortland and I wanted a burger ! ( no chain for this man,I want my burger rare !) We remembered that Hobos won a burger contest so why not, We walked in its a bar with food ! The barmaid is the wait staff and bar person more on this soon. She us the soup of the day is chicken lemon. Wtih a little work could be Greek chicken lemon soup. But I have been a chef over 40 years and the soup was a good as it gets . Now the secret the /bartender/ wait person ,comes in early and makes the soup ! Yup Fresh soups daily . The hamburg cooked great ,service super . And yes we bought two bowls of soup to go. This is probably a 3.5 star place. Food was good, service was really good and we felt we got a decent value for the price. This place has kind of an identity crisis. I wouldn't call it a burger place or a diner or even a bbq joint or sports bar. It's like something in between all of those. I had a turkey club. The bread was off the charts but the turkey was just plain old cold cut style turkey. With all of the other items on the menu I was thinking this would be like a smoked over a wood fire legit turkey breast. Sadly it was not. That would have made way more sense in terms of it being in line with burgers and bbq chicken sandwiches which are also on the menu. You walk in and there's a really nice bar with a few tables. First impression is that it's a very small place. It's not unto you walk around a very oddly placed non load bearing wall that you see there's outdoor seating and additional seating in the back. There are depictions of famous people on the walls in some areas but a deer mount and fish mounts in between tv's on another wall. I'm good with either of those decor choices but both? Seems weird. The bar is open to the street on one side of the building which lets plenty of flies in, definitely annoying and tbh kind of gross. I really didn't enjoy swatting at bugs while trying to eat my meal. The men's room was horrendous. The smell of urine was overpowering. Either people just pee on the walls and or floor here or they never ever clean the bathroom. I never stopped by here because I assumed a place named Hobos would be just another Cortland dive bar. Then I saw pictures of the food on the Cortland eats and treats Facebook page, and man did it look good! When we finally went, we got the pretzel sticks as an appetizer, and my husband got the jalapeño burger and I got garlic park wings with sweet potato fries. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD! Everything came out super fast (almost too fast, it all came out at once and it ended up being a TON of food). I ordered 5 wings, they charged me for 5, but they gave me 10. I got a mule flight which was fun. The blueberry lemon mule was REALLY good, but the spiced pear was a little odd. They accidentally poured the wrong beer for someone else and so they offered my Husband a free extra beer. All in all great service and a great place! Don't judge a bar by its name folks! read more

The service is hit or miss, BUT the food is fantastic! My bf and I almost always end up the fried pickles/jalapeño poppers combo and burgers-- but the real star is the garbage sauce, which is a MUST try. Their reubens are also amazing. read more

What a lovely find just outside of Cortland for parents looking for a relaxing but tasty dinner option. Great wings and the poutine would make Canadians proud. To start off, the service was quite slow. Then, the burger came out and I ordered it medium, it was rare. Many other people in my party who ordered burgers also had their burger undercooked. When I got the bill, it was $21.75 for a burger and fries. For a small restaurant with bar food in Cortland County, this burger was extremely overpriced. And it was subpar. Found this gem of a spot by accident. While in Cortland to move my daughter into her dorm I was looking for a place to eat with my family that was off Main St but not far out of town. So we found this place and we're not disappointed. The wings are huge and delicious. Burgers were juicy and awesome. This has become our go to spot when in The Cortland area! read more

Great find just a few miles from our hotel. Seemed like a mostly local crowd, which I love to find when I travel. Great atmosphere to watch a game. Servers were attentive and friendly. We ordered drinks and appetizers to start, both came out promptly and tasted great. Hand cut fries are always a winner...try them poutine style...delicious! I had the chicken spiedie sandwich and, while the chicken was a little too dry for my liking, it had really good flavor. The kitchen is open to the dining area. Cooks would yell out to the wait staff as orders were ready. It was a little jarring at times as we were sitting close to it. I would suspect that as it gets busier it would also get louder. Keep that in mind if you are sensitive to noisy places. I would definitely come back here if I'm ever back in the area, though. read more

We were hiking at fillmore glen and wanted to get lunch on our way back to Syracuse. Wow! What an awesome place! The selection of food was incredible and everything the 3 of us was a home run. The service was the best part. The 2 bartenders were efficient and fun with big personalities. We ran them both ragged with quick draw and drank alot of beers yet never waited for anything. Walked in 5/14 at around 6 o clock, didn't get our food till 7:10, had even called ahead for a table. It wasn't busy inside, but yet we had to wait for an hour. I ordered a mac and cheese burger with bacon and it was okay (mac and cheese got cold pretty quick and the burger was over cooked. The guests i was with ordered three chicken bacon ranch panini's, all 3 had fatty rubbery chicken with un melted cheese and ranch on the side. It was disgusting to look at to be honest. Now i can't blame the waitresses because it's out of their control, and they did come over to let us know what was going on. Place has a lot of potential but needs work. read more

Service was HORRIBLE! We were a group of 6, and placed in the back room. Waited several minutes before drink order was taken then nothing.Finally after 15 minutes the cook came out and asked if we needed anything. Only then did our drinks come, which several were wrong. One of the 6 ordered coffee, asked for creamer, which was brought out only after another person was asked. Then the creamer was spoiled. Another 10 minutes goes by before our then food order was taken. The food came rather quickly compared to the time it took to order. We were in town for a concert, and Hobo's was recommended by the people at the concert hall. It's like eating in the neighborhood bar, with hightop tables and views of TV's from every angle. This is really two kinds of places... the first, in the day, is a little place to get a burger and a beer and watch a game. The second, at night, is more of a drinking first, eating second kind of place. Very popular, especially with snowmobiles in the winter and bikers in the summer. Eating here is all about strategic ordering. For instance, please avoid the spiedies... they are an abomination compared to what you get in Binghamton/Endwell. Their wings, however, are consistently the best in the area. Their burgers are great and their buffalo chicken sandwich is fantastic. Their fried perch is delicious and something I don't see anywhere else. My wife and I go here often (in the daytime, we are fuddy-duddies) and we are always very happy. (Except that one day I got the spiedie). My only two knocks on the place (other than the spiedie) are: 1. Don't serve Cortland Brewing Company (or any other even semi-local) beer. 2. Not open Sundays during the day (with all those TV's, I would love to watch games here) They are cash only. Always friendly waitstaff. Always happy with the food.
