This place is so fun! As soon as you walk in you cant miss Marlyn Monroe in the center of the room waiting to greet you. Love the way the place is decorated. Very fun vibes and very nostalgic. Everything is so modernized now that this brings a breath of fresh air by being fun and charismatic with its Hollywood style. It is dimly lit so if you dont like that then maybe not the place for you. I thought it was really fun but I know some people may not favor that! The service was great. They're all very friendly and upbeat! Knowledge of the menu and helpful. They've got a great selection and it's reasonably priced. Good place for a family outing, date, friend catch up, or even a place to have an event if you want somewhere laid back and fun. We just realized, however, that it could be a 5 star restaurant if they upped their music game! Looking around at the great collection of photos, posters & decor, it would be more fitting & more classy to have that era music. The classic jazz greats of course (Sinatra, Martin, etc. & the other genre music of this era. Looked like a nice place with many locals eating there but what a disappointment. I had the fish fry and my wife had a chicken Caesar wrap. Both were disappointing. A Cesar without romaine lettuce? We went to The Hollywood Restaurant located at 27 Groton Ave. in Cortland with a group of people for lunch on Tuesday. Then place was pretty crowded for an afternoon. There are lots of booths n a full bar but we were seated at a long table for 15 in the back of the restaurant with a reservations. Our waitress was excellent. She took care of us with no problem. The place is known for their lasagna, fish n pizza. We went with a cheese pizza and a large antipasto with Italian dressing n crumbly blue cheese. The antipasto was delicious but very full and falling off the plate in parts.. The pizza was was good but a stand for it wouldn't gave served customers better bc there wasn't much room on the r table as it was. All in all our food was good and the people that were with us gave the fried fish, capellini and lasagna and A+! So if you're in the mood for some good Italian food n a wall covered with movie photos n Monroe, check it out! They actually took separate checks and there's a huge parking lot to park free in back. I was part of a bus trip so the waitresses worked hard and did well. I just did not appreciate being given veal parm when my order was chicken parm! I wasn't the only one who noticed this.What if someone was allergic to veal?? I kept thinking maybe it was ground dark meat chicken. I ate most if it but then said to waitress "what kind of chicken is this?"She said looks like veal to me. It was. On a bus trip you have a time limit so I said nothing more but did not finish it. Back for a meal during alumni weekend. Ambiance and decor is the same as it ever was. Very reassuring. It is 630pm on a Friday night and the place is packed with fellow alums. All good. I sat at the bar. The barkeep was slammed with making drinks for the waitstaff but she did acknowledge me and took care of my drink and food order timely. A double Knob Creek bourbon and a plate of spaghetti with red sauce and two meatballs. The food was good. Comfort food. Total was $33.57 including a nice tip. A great value. I've been going to the Hollywood since I was a Cortland State student in the late 60's, and their pasta dishes and haddock dinners are still consistently the best in town {For pizza I gotta give it to Melodyland, though The Hollywood's is great.}. The wait staff is friendly and efficient, and the 50's decor is interesting and fun. I once had to host a State-wide luncheon meeting for County department heads and had at least 8 Cortland alumna call me to ask that we have it at the Hollywood. The space is fun and trendy. The decor is fun definitely a cool vibe and good music. We sat outside to eat. It was a large group of us. The food was bland needed some more pepper a bit of salt to my liking. We had ordered a basket of fries, an order of Mac and cheese with fries, Delmonico steak and the cheese burger. Those are some of the items the people sitting closest to me ordered. The Mac and cheese was more of a boxed Mac and cheese. That's okay - if you're into that sort of thing. The Delmonico steak was cooked to perfection. So was our broccoli, olive oil and garlic over pasta. Just needed some pepper and salt is all. Good service overall. The quality of the dish was good, though nothing that special. It comes with a choice of two sides (I got capellini and applesauce, which were average in quality). I also got garlic bread as an appetizer, which was decent, but could have used more of a garlic flavor. The most notable thing about this restaurant is the decor. It is filled with Hollywood-themed decorations and even has a statue of Marilyn Monroe. The service speed was decent and our waitress was friendly and attentive. Second week in a row that a group of us went for dinner, the first week they had Italian wedding soup was nothing like what we expected. Tasted fine, but nothing like Italian wedding soup. This past week the soup was New England clam chowder. So salty I couldn't even eat it, others at the table agreed , totally inedible. Told the waiter, no response. Our waitress, except for putting our dinner on the table, maintained a socially distanced stance while taking our order. We both opted for burgers, although different ones. With lots of stuff on mine, the second half kind of disintegrated but I won't hold that against them. The burger was good but I though it needed a little kick. The fries were "rustic" with the skin on the ones cut from the outside. But they weren't crispy. more like a little soggy. My husband and I met a friend for dinner on a Saturday night. We were able to get a table right away. I was a little worried, because of their no reservation policy with parties less than 6. I had not eaten there in over 30 years! It seemed like a step back in time and was exactly how I remembered it. The decor is of old Hollywood memorabilia, with a huge Marilyn Monroe statue in the middle of the restaurant with her flowing white skirt in her iconic vent stance. The menu was the same as it was the last time I was there. It consists of American fare (burgers, hot sandwiches and fries), along with traditional Italian food. Sometime for every one! We ordered lasagna, stuffed Riggi's with meatballs and eggplant parmigiana. The dishes tasted good. The eggplant and lasagna consisted of tons of cheese. The tomato sauce was not spicy. The portions were huge and I had leftovers to take home. The service was incredible and we never had to wait very long for our drinks or food. When the bill came, we found it reasonable. I definitely think that it is worth the experience if you are looking for a fun family restaurant with a little history. read more

Don't waste tour time or money on this place. The decor is the only redeeming quality. I ordered the "Chicken Divine" and there was nothing divine about it. The chicken was full of water. The broccoli was nuked. And the fries were literally yesterdays stale left overs. They came burnt, soggy, cold and pretty much inedible. The salad was brown and looked like it was old as well. Clean your oil. Make your food fresh. Put in the work. Your customers will notice. This place has potential. But it doesn't seem like they care. Good fries are cheap and easy to make. What a great experience! My friends and I went out to Cortland for a soccer game and stopped at Friendly's for dinner. Unfortunately the service there was terrible, we waited over ten minutes to have servers passing us and not helping. We then went to Hollywood and walked in and were greeted with a warm welcome. We sat at the table and our great server, Richie, treated us very well. It was our friend's birthday today, they came out singing with an ice cream Sunday. I eat at the Hollywood every year when I visit my best friend from Syracuse, who now lives in Cortland. The atmosphere is cool, parking is good, and service is top notch! The food is ok, I had the Buffalo chicken sandwich with fries, it was good, but nothing to write home about. I checked into this restaurant with my boyfriend and we both liked the scenary it had an old fashioned vibe to it with mariyln monroe statue and pictures from the 1960's and 70's . I ordered the buffalo chicken. Wrap and the chicken was grilled just right and whatever buffalo sauce they used let the chicken taste moist not dry. My boyfriend ordered a chicken Philly with American cheese and broclie he enjoyed it too and we had the bread that he use to deliver to the restaurant. We would definitely come back again. read more

The decor and aesthetic of the restaurant is the only great thing about this place. The food is terrible. It's all frozen/processed/jarred nothing is fresh. I had the eggplant parm and the breading had a heavy chemical/oily grease taste (probably due to old fryer oil). The eggplant itself was undercooked. The sauce is not fresh-tasting, definitely jarred, probably prego. The oil taste just took over the entire dish. My boyfriend got chicken parm and the chicken is like a frozen chicken patty. There are a million Italian restaurants in Cortland that are 10 x's better. This place is where all the old-timers like to go and it's the only reason I've ever gone is for an obligated family dinner. read more
