After an extensive eye exam, we wanted a place for a decent ethnic meal. My wife found this place, which was relatively nearby. Conveniently located by a bookkeeping service and the Tompkins County DMV is a strip mall, parking was easy. It was early so only us and two other tables. The hostess/server was very nice. We ordered the spring rolls and pad Thai. They were good. This place is not fancy and has a very limited menu. The atmosphere is enhanced by many lights overhead strung across the ceiling. The gyozas were pan fried- which I know a lot of people enjoy, but I don't. Too oily for my taste. One complaint is that I was expecting the squid ink pasta to be fresh/homemade pasta but it wasn't. I still enjoyed the sauce though. I wish the sauce was more of a sauce and less of a broth... it was a tad on the watery side and didn't stick to the pasta that well... a little hard to eat. Salmon was also slightly dry- it very much needed the sauce for some added moisture. This is probably one of the best restaurants in the area. We've been here three years in a row while dropping off our kid at school, and it never disappoints. Over our visits, we've tried a variety of dishes--including the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Fried Chicken Mango Salad, Pad Thai, Salmon Squid Ink Pasta, Seafood Pasta, Salmon Green Curry Pasta, and Mushroom Soy Sauce Pasta--and everything has been consistently delicious. This is definitely a hidden gem in Ithaca! It's a cozy and intimate spot with limited seating so I recommend getting there before 6:30pm because it got busy quick. It's located next to the DMV so there's plenty of parking out front. The food and service were excellent. Our waiter was very friendly. We also shared a bottle of the Smoking Loon Pinot Noir (not pictured) that was a perfect pairing to our dishes. The Gyoza had the perfect crunch and edamame came with a spicy chili oil that I poured on to my Pad Thai, it added an extra kick of spicy. It comes in a big bowl and I had plenty to take home for leftovers. I always enjoy a good crème brûlée crack test and this one definitely did not disappoint. It was delicious. I think my favorite is the green curry chicken or salmon. I wish I could learn how they do the breading on the chicken and the sear on the salmon. The fusion concept is nice but I always warn my friends that if they are expecting authentic ramen, they need to go somewhere else. They also don't do the katsu curry anymore, which is unfortunate, because it was one of my favorites. I've been here several times now and there has never been a wait. It's definitely because of the location, which is frankly horrible. The plaza that they're located in frequently has some very sus individuals who just might mug you. However, the food is actually quite good, especially by Ithaca Asian standards. It's not the most authentic food - there's bacon ramen on the menu (lol) - but it tastes good! I'm a sucker for all of their seafood ramen options, which are all delicious and reasonably priced. Don't let the location in ithaca fool you! This is a gem in the wall! Tucked in a slightly odd spot, but boy am i glad i tried this! Not only is the ambiance very chic, quaint, and lovely but the food was great! They have a perfect sized menu. Not large but plenty of choices. Everything was cooked perfectly. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Everything came out to us in a timely manner and the serve checked on us every so often giving privacy but assistance as needed. The wine selection is pretty good but limited what you can have just a class of opposed to having to buy a whole bottle. Luckily, we wanted the bottle. They've got wonderfully delicious and unique non-alcoholic drinks. I ordered the rose soda and it was delicious! I would absolutely dine in here again. the most unsuspecting restaurant I have ever been to! It really looks like nothing when you walk in as it's located in a strip mall with a DMV next door and a gas station in the parking lot. DONT LET THIS FOOL YOU! The interior is smaller and has a few seats for couples or a larger party. It's interestingly decorated with branches on the side and a few flowers. The food and cost of food is the real winner here. I was really expecting nothing coming into this, but the food was absolutely delicious. I would easily pay 5x the amount in NYC for the same dish. Starters: We ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts and the fried chicken mango salad to start. Both delicious, the brussel sprouts came with fried shallots and lemon and made a great pairing. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection and paired nicely with the mango shreds and salad. Main meal: we ordered the squid ink pastas, pad Thai, and the spicy bacon pastas. SO. GOOD. the seafood squid ink pasta was a bit spicer than expected and I asked them to lower the spice a bit. The pastas were all so amazing, noodles were chewy and had great flavor. Also priced very reasonably, for $15-$20 a dish! The salmon in the pasta was a large piece and could easily share a dish with someone else. My friend was raving about the Fried Chicken Mango Salad and I believed her once I took the first bite - the chicken is fried to perfection and the creamy yet fresh dressing complements the salad and chicken so well! My friends and I weren't sure what to expect when coming to this unassuming spot (in, as other reviewers have pointed out, an interesting location), but Hakacha was unexpectedly great! Its description as an "Asian fusion" restaurant is slightly misleading, as most of the menu consists of Italian-style pasta dishes, but there are also many dishes inspired by various east Asian cuisines, such as pad thai, ramen, green curry pasta, and crispy chicken mango salad. The mushroom bacon pasta I ordered was absolutely delicious, and that's saying a lot, considering I'm from the Boston area and am accustomed to amazing Italian food. I also found the spicy seafood squid ink pasta my friend ordered delicious as well! The restaurant had a nice ambiance, as it was adorned with warm string lights and cherry blossom branches on the walls, and the service was super friendly and efficient. Ordered Hakacha for delivery via Ithaca To Go, and the food arrived still hot... which is fairly impressive in terms of how the restaurant has prep and overall timing down. Beyond that, the order items were clearly prepared with care. It's not often that you find such food prepared for delivery and it arrives looking so presentable. You eat with your eyes first though, and the folks at Hakacha succeed in showing they keep that in mind. In terms of the food itself, it's probably some of the best that I've had in the area. The portions are pretty substantial, and most definitely flavorful. I ordered food while spending time with with my mother, and she is a HUGE seafood fan... so I ordered her the seafood pasta dish. I also ordered the bacon mushroom pasta for myself (and then pad thai as a leftover so I had something to enjoy later). I added two cheesecake slices as well, which we both enjoyed very much. I don't have that much of a sweet tooth, so I always worry about sweetness levels with desserts... but this cheesecake, each slice topped with a raspberry, was just right. All in all, very happy with everything ordered from Hakacha. I'll be ordering again in the future AND look forward to dining in at some point as well. :) read more

Relatively unknown gem in Ithaca tucked away in a strip mall. Hakacha is a rare display of Asian and Italian flavors without compromising on portions! Inside the place has decent ambience, with flower decor and little fairy lights. I shared the squid ink pasta with salmon and a toast with pork floss with a friend. The appetizer was decent but definitely whet our appetite for the main event. The star of the show are the pastas--each ranging from $15-$20, but served in a giant bowl and adorned with plenty of protein. In our case, we paid $20 for the largest fillet of crispy salmon I've ever received in a restaurant, and bouncy noodles swimming in bright citrusy cream sauce that wasn't too heavy. Really amazing value in a town that typically overcharges for smaller portions of salmon (usually $30-40). We made reservations online through Google Reserve--tables don't seem competitive, but we were able to land a table for graduation dinner as well. Looks can be deceiving. From the outside, this place looks like a hole in the wall. Crummy location too - right next to an old gas station and the RMV. But the food is fantastic - easily hands down, one of the best food joints in Ithaca. I just wish they had a nice online reservation system. We had Brussel sprouts, chicken pad Thai, shrimp Fried rice and gyozas. Everything was delicious and top notch. Best gyozas I've had in Ithaca (and I've tried the Tibetan place). I had high hopes for this place based on reviews but whoa... it was awful. The chicken pad Thai was terrible. The chicken was absolutely disgusting. Rubbery and inedible. It wasn't just dark meat, it looked like scraps or pieces of cartilage or organ meats. I was gagging looking at it. My husband and kids wouldn't eat it either. I was starving, hadn't eaten all day. I called back and asked for them to remake it with white meat and they refused. It sounded like they pre-make these dishes and heat them up when ordered and it's all mixed in (not fresh!). They refused to accommodate me. I don't live in this area but my kids may be attending Cornell next year. They will never eat here, that's for sure. We were traveling to a few places along the way and chose Hakacha because our Syracuse Yelp Ambassador had planned an event here the following week and I love noodle foods! We arrived just after 4pm on a Saturday, when they open. Located in a plaza strip of stores they are tastefully decorated me very clean. For appetizers we had fried chicken, very crispy and tender juicy meat with good flavor, and the crispy Brussels sprouts which were perfect with chopped peanuts and onion crisps on top with a very good drizzle. I ordered the bacon vegetable ramen, fresh made ramen, with egg slices, shiitake mushrooms, scallions, good sized chunks of cooked bacon, and arugula, in a bowl. So much I ate half and too half home. Just ordered from Hakacha on UberEats! The delivery was super fast, came sooner than the ETA! We ordered the fried wrapped shrimp, pad thai, and spicy seafood squid ink pasta. The fried wrapped shrimp was tasty! It arrived still warm and crispy. The sauce that accompanied it was a typical american-chinese sweet and spicy sauce. The pad thai was super flavorful, and I loved the tamarind sauce in it! It gave the dish a slightly sweet and sour taste that was reminiscent of tomato sauce, which I love! The noodles were not stick together like typical pad thai takeaway noodles and the chives were a great addition! SOOOO yum!!! We asked for peanuts on the side, which they did do! The squid ink pasta was delicious as well. It tasted like the pasta was cooked in some sort of seafood broth and therefore made the noodles super flavorful as well without any noticable sauce. We requested extra spicy and they definitely did not disappoint. All in all, would highly recommend! We have visited this restaurant on 8 occasions , including for takeout. I am vegetarian so my go to meals at the restaurant tend to be mushroom butter pasta, and vegetarian Ramen soup. The mushroom pasta is an excellent choice for vegetarians. The tofu vegetarian Ramen soup has an abundance of fresh vegetables, and the broth is excellent. I have enjoyed meals there with business partners, family members, and friends Service is prompt and polite. What a hidden gem in Ithaca! Was not expecting much but definitely blew away all my expectations. Extremely good bang for your buck with affordable dishes with generous portions that are very tasty! The brussels sprouts were my favorite - so good especially with the little crispy fried onions on top - I'm still thinking about them! (Would've included a picture of them too but to be honest they were gone so fast I didn't have a chance) I also had the bacon ramen - it was no pork belly, but I was pleasantly surprised! The noodles were very tasty and good quality, as were the mushrooms and egg and veggies that came with it. I wish I had room to try the vegetarian ramen too but I will definitely be back to have it.
