My go-to Mediterranean restaurant. Family-owned and they are so nice. Their bread is to die for. I could just eat that and nothing else! Lunch specials are only $10/person and they are very generous with their portions. You will walk out of there full and satisfied. I always drive past this place, but never really got a chance to visit because I am a regular at other Turkish restaurants in the area. However, I got tired of eating the same things so my girlfriend and I decided to order from here for takeout. We both got chicken wraps (without onions). It was ready in less than 20 minutes so I went to go pick it up. Although I've never dined here before, it seems like a very cozy atmosphere/family environment. The prices were very reasonable so I was kind of iffy at first. All I'm saying is that when I got home and my girlfriend and I were finished eating, I regretted not ordering seconds. It was one of the best chicken wraps that I've eaten. I think what really set it apart for me was the freshness of the tortilla-type bread that it was wrapped in. Our host ordered a meter long platter and I enjoyed all the goodies (meats) immensely. The platter included meat patties (the owner recommended them), the lamb patties and beef chunks. That were all grilled just right with good flavors. The side dishes were wonderful too. We ordered eggplants and rice. They were flavorful and complemented the meats. Another great Turkish restaurant within Cliffside Park! Hakki Baba is probably one of the most nicely decorated Turkish place in the area. It has got a really warm vibe due to the wood accents on both the walls and ceiling. Seating was also really spacious compared to the competitions. Came here a bit after the regular lunch hour, so didn't really get a chance to try out the ~$11 lunch specials. Ordered from the regular menu, which was fine with me. The hummus, while a bit less salty than I prefer, was still light and fresh. The bread the came with the dip was fresh out of the oven with perfect texture. The shepherd's salad was very tasty and refreshing as well. The best part was definitely the mixed grill. Both chicken and lamb kebabs were extremely well seasoned and tender. The portion was large enough for two people to share. With the hummus and salad, I actually had to take roughly half of the platter home. I have tried several Turkish restaurants in this area and so far this is my favorite place. The place is nicely decorated and very clean. Our waitress was very sweet and welcoming. She informed us that our appetizer will take a while to be prepared so she brought us some hummus on the house. We didn't mind at all to wait as we were still enjoying our freshly made shepherds salad. My family and I ordered babagunush which was delicious and fried calf liver. For entrees we had kofta kebab, lamb Shish and chicken Shish. Even tough we were pretty full we still had a bit of baklava for desert. Everything tasted fresh , the meat was perfectly grilled and btw this place is Halal which adds a bonus star for me. I can't wait to go back here again. read more

I'm really disappointed that my experience was very different than all of my fellow Yelpers. Based on the high ratings I was expecting a lot more than what I got. The biggest problem I had was the service--our waitress spent a lot of time with another table--maybe they had some kind of problem, but we needed service and had to stand and wave in order to get it. The only time our waitress was consistently at our table was after we paid when she was turning over the table. Dinner took over two hours, and we weren't lingering. There weren't a huge amount of customers so it was frustrating to be constantly looking for someone to bring us basic things (a fork, napkins, the bill, etc.), especially when she'd come to check on another table and then go back to the kitchen without seeing if we were okay. Things that seemed simple didn't happen promptly--we had to ask a few times for water, (which was flavored with lemon and mint) and several times for bread--it would've been nice to get bread with the hummus, rather than after we'd eaten it, and would've been nice to get all of the appetizers together rather than one after another-but I can forgive that. I absolutely loved the feta cigarettes (Sigara Böreğí)--they were by far the best thing anyone had all night--like delicious deep fried cheesy egg rolls, and my chicken kebab was decently flavored. The portions were generous, and it was enough for a second meal if you wanted to take it home, but my dining companions complained that their lamb kebab was tough and overcooked, and their chopped lamb kebab had an unpleasant charred flavor. It would be a hard sell to get me to return here when there are so many other exceptional options nearby. read more

A somewhat idiosyncratic restaurant. We were steered here by the high Yelp average. First thing to know, it's BYOB - don't arrive empty handed (as we did). We sat outside as it was quite stuffy inside. Kind of fun to check out the neighborhood. Warm pide bread arrives, with little plastic pats of butter. For starters we went with the white bean salad, and the cigaret borek. The white bean salad was nicely made, finely chopped and tasty. But the better dish was the crisp, slightly oily borek, filled with oozing savory cheese. Four pieces to an order. I chose the Has Has Kebap with lamb, said to come in a spicy sauce. La Portena went with stuffed peppers. The Has Has turned out to be a generous portion of lamb that had been grilled and then simmered in a tomato based sauce, served in bite size pieces. It had the pleasant char of grilled meat, and the tenderness of braised. Delicious, but not at all spicy. Rice arrived a few minutes later. The stuffed peppers comprised four small bell peppers (one actually had a bit of heat) with a savory filling and a dish of yogurt as a sauce. This was a pleasing entree, but I felt something else was needed on the plate - maybe another side. We were pretty full, but could not turn down a kadayif, and I am glad we didn't. Enough for two, loaded with pistachio, not too sweet and a perfect end. This seems to be a family business, and I would guess our primary server was Mom - she was very warm and welcoming. First time I've been here and I would go again without a doubt. The place was nearly empty when we walked in, no one greeted us, we just sat down on our own and waited for a menu. Orders where taken quickly and soup and bread arrived quickly too. Soup was pretty good and the bread was some of the best I've had as compared to other Turkish places around. The meals came at a normal time, not fast, not slow. The meat on all three dishes was great, well cooked. I had the beyti kebab which was delicious all the way through. The portions where notably bigger than most others as well. The salads and yogurt where also bravely good and had a pretty good portion size. Coffee was the best I've had so make sure to get a cup (it's small but you probably won't ask for a second, it's more of a cherry on top rather than a cake). Really the only reason I give this place 4/5 is the speed of service. The lady was friendly and everything was great but the timing. Maybe the coffee needs 15 minutes to make, ok. But the 15 minutes for a check?? I mean I was in no hurry to leave, the atmosphere there is great, but 15 minutes for a receipt is too much. I'm hoping they have more staff on busier nights. Would recommend for a party of 3+ for a nice casual informal dinner. Come hungry. Try the coffee. read more

I have been eating in this restaurant for many years now and the food is not only amazing but its consistently good! The owners have become like family to me and my children. During these times, it is hard to trust where you are getting your food from. I had no issues ordering takeout from here. The owners are taking our well being very seriously and always wear a mask and gloves when preparing and cooking your food. Last night, I had the best meal that I have had in a while. Turkish is officially my favorite middle eastern cuisine simply because of THIS restaurant!!! We got the $60 special for two and it was easily enough for 3 people. This came with everything from cold appetizers and a salad to a large block of different meats. How do I even start?? The soft, warm, fluffy bread in the beginning of the meal is easily matched with everything that came after. The cucumber, tomato, and red onion salad was a Turkish version of bruschetta which was amazing!!!! We chose the hummus and babaganoush... easily the best hummus I have ever had!!! If I can add this as a daily spread I would eat it from breakfast to dinner. The meats- I'm not Turkish so I will not even begin to try to name them but they were ALL addicting and delightfully tasty. The seasoning on the grill and the moistness of the chicken bites was unforgettable. If you don't know the meats and are open to try it this is the best option possible. This place has good food, however it is disappointing that they charge extra for - yogurt sauce(which is nothing but plain yogurt - sad), hot sauce(sriracha) & an extra charge if you make the food to go. I never had to pay for hot sauce or white sauce at a Mediterranean restaurant. Also, there an automatic 20% service charge added to the bill regardless of the party size for a very average service. On top of that, after swiping the credit card, there is an additional line for tip with suggestions of 18%, 20%, etc. SMH!! Beware of these extra charges before paying! read more

Just came back from dinner at this nice little restaurant. I passed by this restaurant many times never wanting to try it until I got a gift certificate. It was quiet I guess it was during the week. Very friendly staff. Family run (so service can be a bit slow, do not go if you are in a rush) Nicely decorated, very welcome and warm. It is spacious compare to some other restaurants nearby...(We had a stroller and we could comfortably fit it around our table) Food wise, we had #24 and Lamb Kebab Yogurt. For Dessert, we had the milk pudding too. Their bread is AWESOME. Soft and fresh! # 24 was really good. The yogurt and the tomato sauce. I didn't feel anything was too salty, the taste was perfect for my personal liking. The portion was huge (as you could see in some others' picture). Definitely more than enough for 2.
