We picked this place to have a family lunch on Saturday around 2pm. Upon arriving, found free street parking a block from the restaurant. As we walked in, it wasn't too busy, we got a table right away. The interior looked super pretty with brick wall background, tables and booths for dining indoor. They had outdoor seating available too. The menu had lots of interesting Mediterranean dishes. We started with the grilled octopus that had delicious seasoning with mix of olive oil and red wine vinegar. The complimentary bread was fluffy, accompanied perfectly with the octopus. The branzino was a flavorful filet, well cooked. The side of spinach was well made too. I loved the lamb kokinisto (from specials menu). The meat was so tender and the sauce was incredible. I just kept taking bites and eventually finished the whole bowl. At the end I took the rice pudding to go and loved the taste of it. Our server Stephen was super nice, paid full attention to all his tables. He told us about the specials of the day from which I actually found out about lamb kokinisto. The appetizers came out quickly but the entree took some time since we had ordered branzino and lamb. They add 3% surcharge for credit card, so take cash if you want to avoid the extra fee. Great Mediterranean food at the area. Nice and clean restaurant. Friendly staff. Street parking. We came for late lunch. Food took some time to come out. Bronzino has strong lemony taste. Hasbrouck Heights is FULL of good eats and family owned businesses with unique flair and rich history. Sofia's is absolutely among those quality restaurants that should be considered the pride and lifeblood of Hasbrouck Heights. Easily one of the nicest and most family oriented Greek spots I've been to in recent memory. I strongly encourage anyone in the area to give it a shot and bring a group to dine in. The only negative I'd say is that the price can be a little over the top for some of the meal items, however, given the ambiance, the service, the quality and the experiences I've had there, it's a fair price. Was going to a recital with friends on Saturday and our group of seven decided to stop for an early dinner at Sofia's. I am so glad that we did. We ordered a variety of appetizers and meals (I tried the salmon croquette app and grilled pork chops) and all thoroughly enjoyed them. What a delightful surprise close by in Hasbrouck Hts. We love Mediterranean food, so we tried Sofia's and it was phenomenal. We've been there a few more times since. One item on the menu, lamb kokostinos, sautéed lamb in tomato sauce over orzo is so good that we've ordered it delivered to the house also. I am extremely picky, especially service and cleanliness. Sophia's exceeded at both. We were warmly greeted by Tony and escorted to our table. We sat outside which was lovely. Our drinks arrived just as we finished reading the menu. We had fried calamari, which was excellent. It was a lightly coated, perfectly seasoned and fried just right. The dolmades are just as they should be. My entree was the lamb burger. It was cooked to the medium requested and the rest of the ingredients had a perfect balance so they played nicely together, none overpowering the other. My husband had the chicken gyro. He raved. And the fries... I've never had anything like before. Excellent! Finally, for dessert we had rice pudding which was, thankfully, not to sweet and a delicious recommended walnut cake. The food was absolutely delicious, from the apps to the mains. We were advised to get the shrimp saganaki....literally the best decision ever. It was almost like a lasagna. It was one of the highlights of the dinner, we wanted more. The grilled octopus was good, but not the best I've had. For our main we ordered the mixed platter with a side of horiatiki and greek fries. The meats were tender and flavorful. We loved the fresh veggies and feta. Lemon and the tzatziki sauce really helped Loukanikos (grilled Greek sausages) - I didn't love this. I think it was too much fennel (?). We also didn't realize this was included in the hot Pikilia. Could be that we didn't read and missed this but a reminder would have been nice, since we did order everything all at once Hot Pikilia (chicken, pork, gyro meat, bifteki, Greek sausage served with pita, tzatziki and rice pilaf) - this was served with fries and it was soo much food.
