Bodrum is a Turkish restaurant on the Upper West Side named after the lively coastal city in Turkey. The restaurant stays true to traditional Turkish flavors, and the food was absolutely delicious!! I had dinner with two friends, one of whom is Turkish, so of course we had to get their official stamp of approval. Thankfully, Bodrum passed the test! I had the lamb tagine, which was hearty, flavorful, and very filling. My friends ordered the stuffed cabbage and lavash, and everyone loved their food. The star of the night was definitely the stuffed cabbage. The cabbage had a flavor and texture that almost reminded me of grape leaves, and it was SO good. An amazing Turkish Mediterranean restaurant located on the upper west side of Manhattan. In addition we were able to be seated right away on a Saturday late afternoon! After being warmly welcomed and seated you are treated to a basket of warm table bread sticks served with olive oil for dipping. Started with the Efes Turkish beer which was light and very smooth and the Mediterranean Pizza and humus as appetizers. You can't beat the special price of $14 for a wide variety of pies. The humus was creamy with just the right amount of tahini and garlic. The stuffed cabbage and Adana Durum lamb sandwich dishes were perfectly seasoned, generously portioned (for lunch) and all reasonably priced. The restaurant interior is artistically decorated and offers outside sidewalk seating as well. We ordered the prosciutto pizza and it did not disappoint whatsoever. We got it for delivery and it was super fresh so I can imagine how it tastes at the actual store. We came here on a Sunday night and were able to get a reservation for a party of 4 a few hours before. We were seated immediately upon arriving and checked on at a good cadence so that we didn't feel smothered or neglected. Of what we got: The baba ganoush was our standout starter. It had the right amount of homemade chunky yet creamy texture and flavorful smokiness. The hummus was also solid, with a hint of lemon-y flavor added. Both starters paired well with the bread they provided, which we were able to get refilled to get our perfect ratios of bread to dip. The lamb tangine was warm, flavorful, and cooked to the perfect tenderness. It came with a side of rice, which was perfect to soak in the flavorful stew. The adana kebab had a chewier, oilier cut of lamb, which was also delicious but didn't have vegetables or rice included to balance out the oiliness. Every dish we had was delicious and well-prepared. We were served complimentary yummy, warm, soft bread with olive oil. I ordered the Pirzola, which were grilled Colorado Lamb Chops ($32.95), served with Turkish rice and veggies. The Lamb Chops were cooked to perfection with nice grill marks. They were melt in your mouth tender, juicy, and well seasoned. The rice was also fluffy and flavorful. Vegetables included tomato, carrots, yellow squash and zucchini. I also got to try the Spinach Pizza, which consisted of cream sauce, mozzarella fior di latte, along with shaved Parmesan cheese. This was delightfully cheesy with well done thin crust, however I'm not really a fan of spinach. Service was good. I thought the prices were very reasonable, especially for the Upper West Side. Service here is horrible. Flat out. BEWARE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES! They won't accommodate! I ordered a $130 order for delivery and very clearly marked on all the items that everything needed to be 100% gluten free, as I have a very severe gluten allergy (Celiac Disease). I nicely asked in the order if the dips (hummus, babaganoush, etc). could come with sliced vegetables instead of pita bread. After placing the order I received a call from the restaurant saying that "we can't give you vegetables with the dips, regardless of whether we give you pita." When I asked why I was told that it was "company policy". I explained that I wasn't asking for the swap out of preference but dietary necessity and if they could please just swap the two. I was nastily told that they could not and that if I wanted to get vegetables I would have to pay an additional cost. I asked to speak with the manager I was told that I was speaking with the manager and that the "owner wouldn't care". When I asked why they couldn't accommodate she simply said it was because they "didn't want to incur the extra cost" (but it was okay for them to not give me the pita, therefore saving them the pita to use for another customer, and therefore saving them a cost). In 20 years of have Celiac's Disease and being gluten free, I have never had a restaurant tell me that they couldn't swap one thing out for another for no reason other than cost. What a disgrace, especially with the number of people with food allergies today. I continued to ask her to accommodate my request, even telling her that I live in the neighborhood and have been a customer before but she would lose me as a customer forever going forward and she didn't care. She told me "fine you don't have to come here, you can cancel your order if you want, I don't care." I told her that if I cancelled my order tonight, I would never come back and would write a review online of my experience and she told me "fine go ahead". I was shocked. For a restaurant to not even care about negative online reviews and losing a repeat customers was astonishing to me and showed an utter arrogance on the part of this manager. I will never go back to this restaurant again and would not recommend anyone with an allergy to ever step foot in here. read more
