I don't think I've ever been to a place that offers a French press flight like they do here. So my cousin is obsessed with coffee so when in Kona, you have to go to a coffee farm. I had no real expectations. I drink coffee. Whatever. But wow this was a great experience. We booked a free tour for 9 am on a Tuesday. Once we turned off the main road and up the hill we entered a tropical coffee oasis. We were greeted with a smile from Kiara (sorry if I spelled it wrong). She is super sweet and knowledgeable. She led us on the tour and served our tasting. The view from this farm and the lanai where they serve the tasting is so freaking gorgeous. Now for the coffee...delicious. The four of us got two sampler coffee tastings which is 6 different coffees. We enjoyed them all. My favorites are the Red Bourbon and the Peaberry. No need for cream or sugar. And all organic. I would go back to this farm on my next visit. Just loved the vibe. Bought coffee and tea to have at home. Enjoy! read more

We chose the brewing tour (soooooooooo good!!!) and learned all about coffee farming, roasting, brewing, and tasting. We did a half taster and sat under the trees while we enjoyed our coffee. Note: I did not do the tour. I purchased an 8oz bag of the latest microlot, had a flight, and shot the shit with the owner. Coffee was quite good and they have numerous varieties. The owner was generous with his time and happy to share some details of their production process, history of the farm, etc. -1 star because I was charged for the flight despite (a) it not being made properly (they don't use a scale to weigh either beans or water; the coffee was under extracted as a result); and (b) I purchased beans. Most coffee, wine, etc vendors waive flight fees if you purchase product onsite. If you're going to charge for the flight, it should be made with the same care I'd get at a coffee shop, which this was not. read more

We walked up and there was a sign that said "Don't be afraid of our welcome committee." Well their "welcome committee" was 2 dogs and I stood around 4 feet away from one and didn't reach out to it I didn't pet it and it lunged at me and tried to bite me so I stepped back. Then the employees came out and they didn't even take it very seriously. be careful around the white dog with grey spots if you have kids or just dont want to be bitten. read more

We had the pleasure of meeting Danielle (one of the owners) and taking a tour. First, I'm a coffee aficionado so I was in my own. Danielle prepared four different coffees for us to taste, and I ended up purchasing the Typica Honey Anaerobic which I brought back home. I opened the bag yesterday, and enjoyed a cup yesterday and today. Now I make coffee using pour over style, and I accurately measure my beans and water. Wow. This is incredible coffee. I agree with the other yelper who said that this is the coffee farm to visit if you're going to visit one. . . .I think the owners / management are really on point here. The tour was just the right amount of info and the right length for me. I feel like I learned things and the tasting was so lovely in a little ocean view tasting loft they made in the space. They also set up their space well. I can see that these people really care about doing things in the best way possible. They seem like though they came from elsewhere they are working in harmony with Hawai'i and the product is super high quality. Our experience at Hala Tree was delightful and honestly I wish I could've hung around all day. We were greeted by their pupper welcoming committee upon arrival and were greeted by our tour guide who showed us around their shop, which featured two samples of their blends. Shortly thereafter we begun our tour. Most of Hala Tree's beans are grown on a separate sight, but this location still has a large acreage of coffee trees that were full of coffee cherries, some green, and some ripe and ready to be picked. Our guide explained the process in pruning and maintaining coffee plants in order to keep them producing for years to come and also touched on how they keep it 100% organic. After showing us a site where beans are sorted and prepped, we went to a cute tasting station where she showed us different beans and explained the differences between them and how they taste, smell, and even how much caffeine they contained. We, along with another group, then got to choose which blends we wanted to try, which we settled on the Red Bourbon Natural and the SL28. They were both excellent and had me wishing we could sit there for hours sipping on coffee, not only because the coffee was great, but the view from up on their farm is incredible as well! I would recommend this tour to anyone, coffee lovers, or farming/gardening enthusiasts. A wonderful experience for a wonderful day! read more

Family owned farm that's fully organic, which I think is common in the Big Island. The farm is small and I think they have a bigger farm somewhere in the Island. I'm a big coffee drinker and the way the coffee was prepared wasn't to my liking so I'm only giving it 4 stars. The tea though was amazing! It was made from peaberry. We did the coffee tour which was a short walk to some coffee bushes. It didn't feel much like a farm tour because you really don't go far from the gift shop. Our guide was very knowledgeable giving information on all the plants, history, and coffee growing & roasting. Education, tea, coffee syrup tastings are free while select coffee tastings ($12 for a half flight of three different coffees) are done in a lovely outdoor seating area with an ocean view. Inside the shop, they offer a couple of free coffee tastings. Tour/education is about 1 hour with tastings. Small parking lot (adequate for small tour groups). Don't pet the dogs. Giving 4 stars only due to my expectation of a more of a farm walking tour. read more

The view from the tasting room is incredible. The staff was very friendly. We didn't have time to stay for the coffee garden tour this time.
