This is a great place to hang out or work; I stopped in to kill some time before a tattoo appointment in the sample building. They have indoor and outdoor seating and friendly staff. I got an iced latte and breakfast sandwich on sourdough. The coffee had a nice espresso flavor and the sandwich was delicious. I really liked the sriracha aioli and arugula paired with the egg. Met up with a friend for a quick coffee and bite here and we were pleasantly surprised by the coffee!! The sandwiches (we ordered the BLT and the club) were fine, nothing to write home about and I was a little surprised by their size (a little smaller than I expected). The space is cute but a little run down, they had a bucket out amongst the tables catching leaking/dripping water which was fine but my toddler kept trying to kick it and/or jump into it haha. Hale is a great place to grab a coffee and a bite to eat with some friends! The inside is decorated with flowers hanging from the ceiling and an overall industrial vibe. They have some good lunch sandwiches like the turkey club as well as breakfast pastries. There is a lot of seating and some outlets to plug your laptop into. The parking isn't great at this location. There is free 1 hr street parking but it is easy to lose track of time and forget to move your car (trust me I have gotten multiple parking tickets here haha). So if you can walk here or take transit that is preferable. Overall though, the service is great here, the coffee is pretty good and the sandwiches are delicious! read more

Just had the best espresso I've had in Toronto in many months... Felice dialled it in.

This café had been bookmarked to try for a while. It's definitely one of the nicer looking cafes in Toronto. The high ceilings create an airy feel. There are so many seats but when I arrived on a Saturday morning the place was full! Fortunately, while I was ordering my hot chocolate, some space opened up. I only had a hot chocolate so I can't comment much on the food offerings. The hot chocolate had fantastic presentation but was so blah I wouldn't have bothered putting it on the menu. If you can't do it awesome, don't bother. As far as the working side of things, WiFi tested at 91/11 and electrical outlets seemed to be everywhere so it's definitely a great place to work. It's located in the Clock Factory Building and the space is big and industrial, perfectly suited for the roasting, cafe and restaurant. You can select from a full selection of coffee options, teas, and drinks. All coffees are made with their core Hale Espresso using a blend of Brazilian, Nicaraguan, and Guatemalan beans. There's also a great selection of baked goods such as muffins, cookies and croissants. If you're hungry, there's soups, salads and decent selection of sandwiches. I love spots like this! Located in the city's west end in an industrial looking building is one of the cutest coffee joints. Hale has an open concept industrial feel to it, and has a great atmosphere. There's even a foosball table and tons of seating. I ordered a drip coffee and a breakfast sandwich with eggs & bacon and the side of potatoes! I also grabbed a blueberry crumble muffin and the muffin was my favourite! The food was good but not amazing, it was definitely something I could make at home. This is one of those great local spots that you can hang out at or even work with some good food and music. The one thing I noticed was they have some shirts that you can purchase and proceeds go to Nunavut as it's really hard to get food up there. They also sell fresh coffee beans and there's free wifi! Hale Coffee is located about 3 min walking from Dupont and Lansdowne. I've tried some coffee shops that use Hale Coffee beans so I was excited to check the actual coffee shop and roastery out. Headed to Hale Coffee on a Tuesday around 1pm and found the shop packed with people (I didn't realize they also served food!). 3.5 stars I loved the atmosphere here... open, modern, chill, and very friendly baristas. Its not often you find a coffee place that offers seating with such a large space. We got here in the late morning and wanted a good kick of flavour and caffeine. You have your choice of outside benches, inside tables where you can work on your laptop, or some lounging chairs to relax in. The place has huge windows so it never feels like a cave but a really nice happy sunny spot. The menu is quite cool as it has cashew milk as an offering. Last time we tried it was in Buffalo where it add an unique nutty note to the cappuccino. We ended up getting the cashew cappuccino and a dirty chai with almond milk. Cashew cappuccino - At a premium price of $7, this is possible one of the most expensive coffee drinks we've tried in Toronto. It is a regular smaller size and seeing how we tried it in Buffalo, we know it's not easy to source and it can be a bit more expensive. Is it worth it? uh... not quite. I'm not sure if this cashew milk was super watery but the espresso was very diluted and it just tasted really watery. For the price of $7, I would definitely skip. 3/5 Dirty Chai - It's not always a good sign when your barista goes "Oh that's new" when you request your drink. Suffice to say, the flavours were really imbalanced as well with most of it being water. I didnt get any tea flavour, spices, or even a good espresso note. A lot of it was muddled water unfortunately. 3/5 Overall, great atmosphere to relax, catch up on emails, or enjoy the sun while getting a coffee. Perhaps it was an off day but I'd skip the drinks here. read more

I moved to LA 5 years ago and I still think about Hale's coffee. I used to come every single day when I worked nearby and they never miss.

This coffee shop is very stylish. Customers and baristas are also stylish. I am not that stylish, but I can still feel comfortable to have cold brew, which I have ordered today. Coldbrew was excellent. One of the best coffees I have had in my life. Seats and tables have space enough to work. However, this place is too nice to get things done. Probably the place is for sit alone and appreciate things in life not bring reality here like work or homework. I think 5 star coffee shop is too nice for bringing lap top and doing assignments. Bringing laptop and doing assignments are good for maybe hour star coffee shop. read more

Love the indoor space! It's filled with natural light and a delightful aroma that is conducive to chatting with friends over coffee or working productively on your laptop. The outdoor space is lovely too with two muskoka chairs under a big, shady tree. On my first visit, I tried the ferrero rocher doughnut - it was the perfect size, not at all greasy and the chocolate and hazelnut were well-balanced - with the cold brew coffee. On my second visit, I tried the gluten-free blueberry scone and kombucha. The kombucha is on tap and it tastes amazing! The brew they had on tap on this visit was a tasty balance of asian pear and rose; it was absolutely delightful! My friend tried kombucha for the first time here and is hooked already because of the flavour profile, tanginess and refreshing fizziness. I enjoyed also the spinach croissant; had just come out of the oven and the aroma was so incredible that I had to have it. If I lived in the area, I would be at Hale often! read more

I'm in love with this place. Their coffee, atmosphere, service, and food are all amazing. So far I've had their overnight oats, parfait, crispy tofu sandwich, and their breakfast sandwich with bacon. All so good, and it doesnt leave me bloated or feeling sluggish. I never leave reviews but this was absolutely the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I went to buy an iced espresso today at the square one location and there was milk available at the table (which is available for everyone). I went to pour milk and the cashier approached me and said "just to let you know, you put milk worth a latte. Next time order a latte. DON'T EVER do that again." While saying that, she also gave me the dirtiest look ever. What's unfortunate is that I've come to this location twice before and both times I was told I was welcome to add milk and it was not an issue. I even offered to pay for the milk and the cashier said "no, but don't ever do that again". This was completely unacceptable. The way the cashier was looking at me made me feel so awkward and uncomfortable. Her reaction was very unnecessary. It was literally like another dollar for milk (which again I offered to pay after I was yelled at). In my opinion, any business big or small that has customer service this atrocious shouldn't have customers in the first place. Very unfortunate. read more

Very nice atmostphere here - really loving it as a work spot. The space is large and bright with lots of seating. There is also lots of street parking nearby which makes it easy. This is an open concept coffee shop/roastery with active coffee roasting happening in the background. The seating setup is best for 1-4 people with one group table at the back. Saturdays and Sundays can get busy and a seat a table is not guaranteed on these days. Their coffee and espressos are awesome! If you're looking for pumpkin chai late mint cumquat or whatever is popular at Starbucks, this is not your place. Their focus is coffee beans and they are top notch. I would add they have a small selection of soups and sandwiches, as well as the standard baked goods, that are awesome. They put an impressive amount of TLC into these. I also find the staff super nice and willing to go above and beyond to give customers a great experience. Overall this is my go to out of a lot of great options in the neighbourhood. read more

Walking in, place had a chill kinda hipster vibe which I was digging. I grabbed a coffee and the server was chill. The coffee was filtered and ground within viewing distance, and you can taste the awesomeness of it. So sat down for a while, helped my friends, then wanted another. So when I went again, the guy was busy with 2 orders, so I did not rush him. He saw that I was very patient with him, and he gave me a coffee on the house without a second thought. A place that will do that always gets a good review because you are attentive to your customers and recognizing awesome people (wait... yea.... im awesome). Definitely go there. Hale Coffee is a really fun and friendly coffee stop. There is a good amount of space so it's good for Strollers. They offer the usual drinks and some delish baked goods. I had a s'mores cookie and it was def worth the calories. I usually order a latte which is but I've also been adventurous and ordered an almond chai which turned out to be so good. The washrooms are shared with the other business so you have to grab a key on a stick which I always think is pretty gross. And there is no change table in the washroom which sucks if you have a little one. There is usually a good mix of a crowd there, some people working, some socializing, some people on their own and I've never had trouble finding a spot to sit. Really like this place and it's within walking distance of Boulderz which is an added plus. read more

There is nothing bad to possibly say about Hale. This summer, I started an internship in the neighbourhood and was super unfamiliar with anywhere I could grab coffee that wasn't from a convenience store dispenser. Not only did I find the best coffee I've ever had in the city, I found the most kind staff, most knowledgeable staff, delicious food (with vegan options), and a place to add to my daily routine that made me feel right at home. Everyone at Hale always has a smile on their face and delivers coffee that is made PERFECTLY. I never knew what a latte done right tasted like till Hale. The baristas were also phenomenal and helped me troubleshoot why the coffee from my chemex didn't taste super great, and now I use their beans at home since I live a fair bit too far to commute as often as I'd like. Whenever I have friends coming to Toronto, I always tell them it's worth going a bit out of their way to visit hale. Also love that they have really awesome bike parking and awesome seating. read more
