Best valet service: Miles and Alan
    Claire G.

This is our go to the past 5 years! We love staying at this hotel because it's intimate, service is top notch and no crowds, compared to the other hotel/resorts. We'd love to stay at the sister hotel right across the street, Halekulani but that is a little pricey. Halepuna is the next best place. We especially love our regular valets guys (but the entire team is awesome): Mikes, Mark, RJ & Alan. They always greet us when we're in & out of the hotel, on top of always having our car nearby and ready. Our rooms are usually ocean view but since my sister got a suite on the 23rd (top floor), we got 2 ocean deluxe that shares the same foyer. We can lock the main door and keep open our room doors since we have a foyer area. Perfect for families! The bakery below is super convenient and delicious. The location is in the middle of everything. Highly recommend this hotel!!!

Beautiful hotel with a few points to add... - They only have a plung pool. While I was there the pool was filled approx 2.5 feet. Not really for swimming. - Everything is an additional fee. Different fees charged to different guest. Exm. I was there 7 days and no breakfast or parking discounts. Other guest had stated discounts if stay over 3 days. I questioned that and was told no such discounts. - Also, originally ordered a mountain view (by that turned out to be a parking lot & the balcony turned out to be a Juliette balcony (also known as a peek a boo, unusable). Only option was upgrade to Ocean view, where they do have a normal balcony that two chairs fit... which was additional (54 daily+ fees) $350. - Parking also additional $350. -tax additional $472 -total additional usage charges (no food room charges) over $1,000. - if you want covering by pool... there are cabanas for an additional $75 ... Beautiful hotel ẅith some nice elegant features, but the endless extra charges took it down for me.. ...

Halepuna is such a hidden gem! You are instantly impressed by the first moment you got here by the friendly smile and the courteous bow. There's no spot for self-parking so we valet our car. Hotel provides a courtesy insulated bag with towels and beach mats if you want to head out to the beach. Hotel is clean and quiet.

We stayed here 8/17/25-8/21/25 We arrived early and I'm aware of the 3:00pm checkin. Unfortunately we couldn't get an early checkin as there were no rooms with 2 queen beds available. Therefore we waited. We were given our cute wood keycards and headed up to our room. The room overlooked a dirty parking lot. We immediately went back to the front desk and complained. We were given room 915 which looked over the swimming pool. I'm okay with that....better than looking over the dirty parking lot. The room was clean and nice. Be aware the bathtub is high and may be difficult to get into easily. In the room were 2 free nice water bottles and comfortable slippers. All the staff throughout our visit were very kind. When I would leave for the day and return I was always greeted by my last name by this older Asian lady at the front desk. I can't remember her name. The valet staff especially Miles & Alan were always helpful and kind. My rental jeep I rented from Avis was so dirty that Valet Staff Miles cleaned all the windows and mirrors for me. If you need beach towels and beach chairs you can get them from the valet staff for FREE. The beach is right across the street. When we went the sandy beach area was covered with Jelly Fish. Too afraid to swim at the beach we decided to utilize the hotel pool. Pool staff Jerome helped us with getting our towels and giving cups of cold water. Again all the staff throughout our visit were pleasant. FYI: Hotel is located next door to the Halekulani Bakery. My goodness the baked goods and coffee at this bakery are yummy. Would I recommend this hotel??? Absolutely YES!!!

Japanese-style modern toilet in all rooms and common areas

We stayed at the Halepuna for 4 nights for our end-of-summer vacation. If you want a quiet, ultra-clean, and relaxing hotel this place is for you. The tradeoff is you get less activities and amenities compared to larger, touristy hotels. Our Oceanside 2-double bed room was super comfy. Reasons we loved this hotel: 1. Japanese-style toilets in the room and throughout the property. Super clean bathrooms. The one on the 8th floor unisex gym even has cursors to aim that water jet along with water pressure control, LOLl! 2. Nice pool deck on the 8th floor with bar and plenty of seating. For our first night we got free shaved ice! 3. The 8th floor also has a nice gym with separate rooms for weights, cardio, and a studio equipped with yoga mats, touch-screen video for workout demos, and exotic equipment like core bags, CMT devices, and kettlebells. 4. Plenty of parking in the large indoor lot. $50/night seems typical in Waikiki. Hotel has ZERO resort fees. 5. Proximity to a bakery, Denny's, Roy's and ABC Store. If you want even more food options and a crowded atmosphere with nightly live music, you can head to Outrigger Reef a block away. Also easy access to Waikiki beach despite the hotel being at the end of a street. 6. Fast and free wifi. 7. Water dispensers on the 8th floor, with icy cold water on the pool deck. The lobby has one upscale restaurant, Umi that specializes in elegant seafood, but no other amenities like gift shops or free coffee/water stations. The hotel does have daily specials and activities, so check out the calendar.

Sister property to the famous Halekulani but newer and cheaper. Very clean facilities minus the left over pubic hair that housekeeping didn't catch. Booked through Amex platinum and should get upgraded, but lady at front desk was kind of rude and don't care to honor it because she said there was not enough space even though the hotel seems empty. Common facilities like Pool are underwhelming pictures make it look better than they actually seem.

Is the pool at sister property Halekulani available to Halepuna guests?

No, the pool at Halekulani is not available to Halepuna guests. Most of the amenities are available but not the pool.

For anyone who has stayed here how would you describe the mattresses? Would you say they're rock hard or somewhat comfortable/soft?

Medium hard is probably the best description. Don't get me wrong it's very comfortable, but it leans towards the firmer side.

The Banyan Wing is the original Victorian-era building which is listed on National Historic Registry and houses the main lobby and restaurant. The number of guests and visitor who circulate through this property daily is incredible. Including the Tower and Surfrider Wings, it has 791 rooms. Our Tower room had a great covered patio with incredible views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. We spent a lot of time on the patio watching the surfers, catamarans, and enjoying the island breeze. Our balcony was spectacular :o Our room was updated and very comfortable. I understand the owners completed a full renovation of all rooms in 2026. The beach bar is one of the best in the world. Cold cocktails, beer and wine. Good service. Great views! The drawbacks.... The pool is small and very crowded, especially for 791 rooms. With that said everyone in the pool was smiling and having fun. The beach is also pretty small for such a massive hotel. At high tide the hotel only has about 30 feet of beachfront and it is a public beach so it is crowded Rio style. For us this was not a drawback as we love Waikiki, the birthplace of Hawaiian surfing, and spend most of our time in the surf. Hawaii and Waikiki is one of the few places that completely lives us to the hype year after year and generation after generation. We can't wait to return. Aloha & Mahalo

So much history as shown throughout the resort especially on the second floor, but also the open Victorian architecture which presents a relaxing atmosphere. Our friends thought we were "rich" for being able to stay here but I don't recall the prices being too different than other hotels in the area. We also got a great offering through the American Express card. We arrived on island early afternoon and attempted to stay up as late as possible. However, we were given a room on the second floor of the historic side of the hotel where they host events on the patio area outside our room. While we were trying to sleep at 8-9pm, a festive wedding was going on with their DJ blasting music, people dancing, yelling, the DJ trying to motivate the audience, etc. It was not a fun night as my wife complained to the hotel staff about the noise interfering with our ability to sleep. It's not the fact the wedding was occuring, but rather the fact the hotel staff didn't let us know they were putting us next to the hotel night club of sorts. Hawaii is typically laid back and quiet, which this was not. The hotel staff sympathisized and mentioned the wedding would be finished by 10pm which it was, and tried to make things better. On day 3 around 4am, the hotel fire alarm sounded and advised everyone to vacate the building. When we vacated, we learned it was a false alarm. This was our last day at the Moana Surfrider which we assumed was a sign the resort wasn't meant to be a relaxing experience for us. The hotel has activities associated with the resort fee such as yoga, that we registered for. It was my first time doing yoga despite mention by my wife over the years to do it. I figured it would be a pleasant surprise for her if I signed us up, and it was a great class out on the same patio area as the wedding. I won't say it was fun for me, but it was an experience that we both enjoyed. The room itself was small which I assume is because it was part of the historic side of the hotel. There wasn't a balcony which we've come to appreciate especially in Hawaii to be able to go outside, view the water, and smell the air. Instead there was a window which we tried to orient ourselves in to get a picture of us with our welcome leis and Waikiki Beach in the background. Very challenging to appreciate a window as well as find space in the room to lay out two large suitcases without having to relocate furniture. The shower leaked water onto the bathroom floor as the cracks in the glass were not sealed so there was a constant wet towel on the floor. The bathroom in general didn't seem very modern considering the hotel had recently undergone years of modernization. Housekeeping was good and treated us well with towels and drinking water. I believe the Tower rooms of the hotel might be more modern and larger, as well as away from the event area of the hotel. I think we would look at other options in the future as we also spent a few days each during this trip at the Sheraton and The Royal Hawaiian which provided a much different experience in comparison.

I worked incredibly hard to bring my family to Hawaii, and I am extremely disappointed that so much of our time at Hilton Hawaiian Village was spent dealing with problems that should never have become our responsibility. Over three nights, we experienced two separate water leaks and repeated hot-water issues. These weren't minor inconveniences--they significantly disrupted our family vacation. The worst night, I slept approximately two hours. With water leaking into our room, I chose to stay awake and deal with the situation myself because I didn't want maintenance repeatedly coming into the room and waking my 1-year-old and 3-year-old children. Instead of resting and enjoying the next day with my family, I was exhausted because I had essentially spent the night protecting my children's sleep while dealing with the hotel's maintenance problem. That is unacceptable at a resort of this caliber. Management eventually provided compensation, and I appreciate that they acknowledged the situation. However, I absolutely do not believe the compensation matched the severity of what we experienced. I didn't work all year and spend thousands of dollars bringing my family to Hawaii to spend a significant portion of our vacation calling guest services, dealing with leaks, worrying about hot water, and effectively helping manage Hilton's property. Money can be refunded. Vacation time with my children cannot. For the price and reputation of this resort, our experience fell dramatically below what any family should reasonably expect.

We also used our American Express Platinum Hotel Credit benefit, and it was great that this hotel qualified for it. Ka Laʻi is one block from the beach, backing up to Fort DeRussy Park, a military reservation, and is surrounded by many shops and restaurants, especially along Luxury Row, which is a non-negotiable visit for us. There is so much aloha felt here, with the staff always greeting us with genuine smiles and a willingness to help. The hotel is quiet and soothing, perfect for a relaxing stay. We checked in seamlessly and were provided with cold, refreshing water upon our arrival. Our room was spacious and felt very cozy, with beige carpet and tile flooring, brown furniture, and dark cabinetry in the kitchen. In the seating area, there was a large full-size sofa, an upholstered side chair, and a coffee table. The long dresser and closet provided plenty of storage. A lovely welcome treat was left in our room: two Ka Laʻi reusable water bottles, Hawaiian semi-sweet chocolate, and Beach Brittle. These items were a very nice touch. If you feel inclined to enjoy more Beach Brittle, you can purchase it downstairs in the small shop next to the spa. The bathroom had a double-sink vanity with plenty of counter space, which is a must for me, a large soaking tub, and a wet shower area. It was a generously sized bathroom with plenty of room to move around. Our stay included a wonderful breakfast buffet at Inyō. There was an omelet station with a chef preparing made-to-order omelets, along with a variety of beautiful fresh fruit, hot and cold breakfast items, rice, and Asian-inspired bites. The infinity pool is located near the restaurant, Inyō. It's tiled in a beautiful blue that adds a nice contrast to the tan backdrop of the neighboring high-rise buildings. The pool is long and narrow, accented by a series of raised, tiled planter islands that provide a bit of privacy between guests. We were too busy to swim or enjoy the other amenities, but just walking around the grounds was incredibly relaxing. It's a very peaceful place to stay, unlike many of the larger hotel brands. The standout at this hotel was definitely the service. The staff always made eye contact, greeted us warmly, and either asked about or anticipated our needs. This is a hotel that is definitely worth returning to.

That came in clutch as the beach showers were out of service. The valet people were so kind and got to know their patrons immediately. There were also so many people on stand by for your every beck and call. I especially loved the cafe located on the 7th floor on the way to the pool that had a full espresso machine for your needs. Those ladies that worked there were the best!! They were always ready for my redundant questions. The pool was spectacular. We went swimming during the sunset and it was just the coolest spot. There were plenty of kids swimming when we were there, so we felt at home having a small child as well. The pool has sunscreen ready, cold water, and towels for your pool session. Even though it didn't have bells and whistles, my daughter still enjoyed the child friendly ledges. We got the one bedroom suite with the kitchen and living room. We had two balconies with a partial view and they were both gorgeous. It got a little loud at moments due to the proximity of the downtown Waikiki energy, people playing music loudly on scooters and ambulances, but it never woke us up or annoyed us. I felt spoiled here. I properly pampered and I am excited to have an opportunity to stay again. Kid approved, mommy approved.

With Blue Note being on the first level and Duke's on the second. Blue Note has a great jazz club, chill, intimate vibe that is great for a night out if you have a favorite artist you want to see perform. Duke's has a great view of the ocean and it's always packed yet the service stays consistent and attentive. Overall a great place to stay, but just as great of a place to visit as well!

This is my 2nd time staying in Waikiki. We wanted a beach front hotel so we decided on Outrigger…read moreReef for a full week. To start off, I'd give the resort a solid 4/5, no more, no less. The location? It's great because it is literally beach front; however, it is on the southern most edge part of that beach area. This means that the beach right outside is jam packed with tourists coming and going and you would have to walk a decent ways up the beach to find a spot. Regardless, a beach front is a beach front so it's nice to get down there quick and enjoy the beach. The hotel is in a great spot in Waikiki because there are tons and tons of shopping stores and food areas within a 15 minute walk so you never really have to drive out. Monkey Pod restaurant down below has great reviews and is delicious, but I personally think their menu is quite small. They also have a pool side bar/cafe that serves drinks, snacks, and meals and is a secondary pool-side restaurant. They play music down there every night. It's very calm, quaint, and peaceful to enjoy a night in the hotel. Unfortunately, the prices of their drinks are ridiculously overpriced. $17 for a Mai Thai not including tip. Insane. The room? I would say pretty average for any decent hotel. It was clean, the bed was good, the pillows were nice and big. The balcony is small, but can sit two people to enjoy the outside. The down side is the rooms of the two towers of the hotel face each other. So you don't get a beach front view unless you pay the big extra for those rooms. My biggest gripe about the room was the shower. The whole 7 days the water would change from warm, hot, very hot, rinse and repeat every few seconds. The price? Very expensive, but that's the price you pay for a beach front hotel PLUS it being on Waikiki beach. There's probably not big deals/sales unless you buy it through Costco Travel which is what I did which saves you probably a couple hundred at the very least. Valet is automatically included which is another 60 per night (not including whatever few bucks you tip them whenever you go out) so this would easily rack up your bill. I'd say the closest free parking is at least a 20 minute walk one way. Despite my rating the hotel a 4/5, would I recommend this spot? It depends. If you are a newcomer to Oahu and want to experience the casual, tourist experience of Oahu, want that beach front hotel, and have the cash, I would recommend this. If you are not a newcomer, there are many other hotels that will suit many other tastes. And honestly, staying at any other hotel outside of Waikiki is probably best if you want to really save on money and see better beaches.
