Last week, after my semi-annual heating, electrical and plumbing maintenance inspection with "one of the big companies you see on tv", I was advised that I needed lots of electrical repairs completed, to the tune of a minimum of several hundred dollars up to thousands of dollars to replace (not upgrade) my electric panel. One of those repair estimates was to replaced the attic fan that I had installed 10 years prior, for about 50% more than I originally paid for it. Whenever I am faced with expensive repairs, I always solicit a few additional estimates. I submitted an online request on Saturday, Dave responded almost immediately and set me up for an appointment on Monday. My technician was Rob. I ran down my laundry list of repairs, one of which included replacing the attic fan. I was delighted to be quoted about the exact same price to replace the attic fan that I had paid 10 years ago. The other estimates were also fair, and Rob advised me that I did not NEED to replace my electric panel. The recommendation is to replace it after about 15 years or so, so my panel is definitely dated, and could be replaced, but not due to any damage or malfunction. In addition, the estimate provided to replace it was much more reasonable than the one I received from the "big company you see on tv." I don't think it's fair to bash that "big company you see on tv" because their prices are outrageous, so I'll just say that I found Sherwin to be a more reasonable company to deal with for my budget, and I appreciate that the tech was there to do an efficient job rather than upsell me on repairs or services I do not need. I'm pretty sure I'll be calling them when I'm ready to modernize my electric panel.

I did a little research of reviews for HVAC companies in Chesapeake and found Simmons had great ratings. I found quickly why they had 5-stars! My previous HVAC contractor had been out twice and I was left with, " you need a new thermostat" and left with a cold house. That's when I found Simmons. They were very responsive and were out within 8 hours. The technician was very polite, professional and explained everything about the system (since I was unfamiliar with a dual-fuel system). He identified the problem and made the necessary repairs quickly. Having had a great experience then, I put the system under contract with them. Since then they have not let me down. They have kept my system in excellent condition. This week I suddenly had an issue with heat. Called and had a technician here within 3 hours. He got the system working but the next day I had the same issue and on one of the coldest days the system was out again. I called after hours and within 15 minutes had a call back from the on-call tech who said he would be here in 20 minutes. He was. The problem was so minute, a loose connection, but trouble shooting that was a pain for him, but he found the problem within 15 minutes. Simmons is my only HVAC system contractor. I know the age of the existing system and understand it only has a few years left in it. I feel confident that Simmons will keep it running great and when the dreaded day comes, it will be Simmons technicians installing a new system.

I only discovered after incurring an $889. bill less than 2 years into ownership that this product inherently attracts ants, both through the hum and the adhesive itself in the control panel, attracts ants. A corporate person I spoke with in Wisconsin told me the company is working on a re-design. My control panel was destroyed to the tune of $600. and the battery at $150.; both attributable to the ants. (add labor and house call) Noteworthy is the fact that the base of this unit comes with "carrying holes" for the unit to be set into place at your location. There exists "fascia cap kits" made for those holes, to keep the mice, etc out; but you must ask for it from corporate and pay for it. It was also advised that I should silicone around these caps. Despite corporate telling me they'd send me the caps, at their expense, they now say they have no record of my phone call. I believe this kit should come with silicone gaskets especially designed for these fascia caps, and come installed with each unit. Needless to say, although the Never Dark folks are nice. I am not a satisfied customer of Generac's; as its painfully obvious Generac has transparency issues with its customers. Also obvious, is the fact that this problem generates sales for corporate's bottomline.
