This company came in and did work on our entire first level. They gave a competitive quote and I knew other home owners in town that have contracted to them before. Howard has been easy to get ahold of, very responsive to both text and phone calls, and was quick to come out and give quotes. We've used Hale's Floor Covering for our whole house and finishing the basement, and now after a septic backup, we'll be using him once again to re-do the basement. These other reviews seem very out of character for them as I know several other very happy customers, and they've done a great job with my home. read more

In Dec we had a laminate floor put in but there was a problem where the floor was uneven from kitchen to living room. Home Depot was aware of this but did nothing when we told them When installers came out and saw the issue they called Hale flooring which in return quoted us an outrageous price for plywood or cement. Howard Hale is a ripoff and I will never use home depot again while using this outfit. Very thankful that I read the reviews on this site so I was prepared for what I was getting into. Job was through home depot, and sub-contracted out to Hales. Upon receiving a quote for an additional charge for floor leveling (The floors needed to be leveled) I was told it would be an extra $1,275 for two small rooms. When I told Hales I thought this was a bit steep, and asked them to come down a little bit they lied and told me that since this was a job through Home Depot it would be up to them. Home Depot confirmed with me that this job was sub-contracted to Hales and that any added charges Hales was responsible for quoting, and any flexibility was up to Hales. Cancelled the job with Hales and after calling around a bit I found someone to match the labor for install and level the floors for $300 instead of $1,275. Hales attempts to make up their low bid with Home Depot and add extra profit to their business through astronomical up-charges. BE CAREFUL. read more

Don't even think about using this company. Home Depot uses them as a contractor and they are AWFUL. Howard Hale will tell you that he can give you an estimate to install hardwood flooring based on measurements rather than a site visit (even though the purchase order was for him to visit the house), finally arrive four weeks later to install but instead increase your estimate five-fold or even say he can't do the work. I've dealt with some difficult contractors and subcontractors in the past but this guy is the absolute worst. read more

This was the contractor Home Depot uses for tile flooring. It was a two day job. They arrived about an hour late the first day. They were supposed to arrive at 9:00 on day 2. At 10:30, I called to see if he was still coming and was told that he was at his son's game and forgot about me. He said he would be at my house the next day at 9:00. Called at 9:15 to tell me the truck wouldn't start. I told him it had to be finished that day (Sunday). He said he would come at 5:00 since his son had another game. He then called me back 20 minutes later and said he got the truck started and would be right over. Finally finished the job two hours later. Contractor was very unprofessional and unreliable. I had an estimate done through home depot that unfortunately Hales ended up taking which i paid in full for... they made me wait 3 weeks for what i was told would be INSTALLATION. When they finally showed up, they told me they had no intention of installing the floors today and told me the entire house needed leveling after being there 5 mins. The walk out basement is a concrete slab!! When i scheduled it they totally made me believe they we're coming to install , not to reestimate the original estimate which was done already pushing 2 months ago!!!! I asked them why they made me wait 3 weeks to tell me they can't install the flooring because it wasnt level and had no response. They win the bids thru homedepot because they bid low and then when they decide to finally show up they charge you a lot more. Needless to say i fired them. I could have had it all done by now...they should have come with their levelers when they took the contract.. over 5 weeks ago and not hold me up this entire time then walk in my home the day that INSTALLATION was scheduled with cocky attitudes having NO intention of doing what i paid for! Defenitely would not recommend this company go with Allstate Floor Coverings in Meriden!! They'll have my entire place done within a week, came in one day to do estimate. I recently decided to have all pergo laminate flooring installed in my entire downstairs. I went to home depot and started the process of achieving this. Hales flooring is the contracter that Home depot uses. I was having almost 500sq ft that had to be done. I paid an insane amount of money in July 17' and I had to call home depot to find out when someone would be calling me for installation after I had the materials in my house for well over 2 wks. I had to chase them down, plus Chase down the contracter. I spike to Howard Hale the owner who set up the appt for install and before he even did so he says, as long as your floors are flat we will have no issues. Well, it wasn't until Sept that they finally came to my house and when they came immediately said the floors needed to be "floated" aka leveled. He said he would call back with estimate. Well when he did he wanted an additional 3k!!!! I then calls dgim personally to get a breakdown of why it would cost that much. He was condescending and sarcastic and tried to play me like I was an idiot, mainly because I am a woman I believe. My husband and father both contacted him and we refused to pay him any money at all. He hung up on me numerous times and was BEYOND RUDE. I later on got a full refund from home depot becaude I refuse to give this evil thief any money or any business from anyoneeeee!!!!!! He is a scam artist DO NOT TRUST HIM and I would avoid home depot altogether because they have no knowledge of this particular craft and all they cate about is money also. Fyi I got 3 different contracters after who came in and told me it wouldn't cost more than 500 in materials to float the floor YET Howard insisted it was 3k. SCAMMMMMM ARTISTTTTTT!!!!! Had pergo floor installed by Home Depot and hales was the contractor they used. They showed up on time and informed me floors were not level and needed to pour leveling cement. One room was full of furniture so they could check the level on that room. They wanted to charge me $1500 for 2 rooms. I didn't want to spend that much but agreed to pay the $1500 but as long as it was for all 3 rooms. I didn't have a problem with the fact the floors needed to be leveled. I just think the cost was a little high. It only took the maybe an hour per room. The guys were fast installing the floor and I would say overall it came out good. But they def were lacking in the details. Pencil marks left in floor. Some cuts could be seen around door trim. I had to ask them to fix the transition pieces because they were crooked. Also one transition had to corner broke off and they left it like that. My whole goal behind having a contractor do the job was to have it done quickly and have it done at least as good as I would have done it and I am no pro at floor install. If you are a perfectionist dont use Home Depot or hales. read more

horrible! waiting and waiting for them to come to work!calling and calling to get an idea that the installation and material were paid for and it is the time to do their job! instead of 2 days as it was promised they worked 5--they come after noon and after couple hours leave! Non-acceptable! We plan to write an official complain with the Home Depot through which we ordered the tile installation service and which assigned this company to do the work. read more
