I've swung by this Los Feliz staple many of times for birthday presents to friends in forms of cool band t-shirts. And I personally go to this store for unique pants for myself. Now I'm in a state of shock to find out that the store is closing and many things in the store has an additional 50% off the price. Today I bought for pair of pants and three pairs of socks for $46! That is AMAZING. I talked to the helpful manager on duty and she has worked at this store for over 20 years. And the main guy about 35 years. Half Off Clothing Store has some really great fashion. A great store to find cool rock band t-shirts for a great price. They also have a nice selection of Hawaiian shirts.

I always find something unique here, and usually unique enough that it's worth having to pay for tailor services. Have also bought many interestingly designed t-shirts for me, family, and friends -- gotta love those piles of t-shirts! I've also purchased several beautiful Johnny Was blouses at a much more reasonable price than the Johnny Was store itself. Sometimes my experience here is hit or miss, but when you find a hit, you can bet it will be a treasure. Always good service here too. read more

The name is pretty darn self-explanatory: not one for flair, this shop is just what it sounds like -discount clothing! But not in the Salvation Army type of discount clothing store, but high-quality, designer, unique and interesting pieces. When Stephy S. first suggested we meet at this place, I thought, where is she taking me? Oh, I realized, heaven. This store is a little piece of heaven. Even though I live in a climate that doesn't get warmer than 70 degrees, I was tempted to buy multiple sun dresses. I ended up with only one dress - a cute little silk sun dress that I *think* can bridge day and evening - for $70. It is so lovely and pretty - what a great find! Allegedly, the clothing is discounted for small defects, etc. but all of the pieces I saw were in impeccable condition. A great variety of dresses and t-shirts, but I'm sure the inventory changes with the seasons. I like to call this place the suction cup to my paycheck. Ever since my evil friend introduced me to this place i have been screwed (but in the very best and most fashionable way of course!) This store is packed with designer clothes that have teensy tiny imperfections which drop their prices down to practically give away status. I purchased a coat here last winter for $250 that is unbelievable and while I kept thinking, jeez, $250 for one piece, when my same friend went to Paris and saw the EXACT coat in a window for $1800, well, I shut the hell up. This is definitely a hit or miss sitch here, but when you hit, man do you hit. Check back often as their stock changes frequently and listen to me when I say this....DO NOT, I say, DO NOT go with a competitive friend who wears your same size. But if you mark the price tag at $50 dollars for a t-shirt to make people think that you save a whopping $25, yah that seems a lot....but don't forget...you're still paying for a shirt at $25. I was out shopping for a birthday present for my niece and of course, I had to stop in here on my walk up Vermont to check out what they had - for me. First off, the sales staff is really friendly and cool. The woman at the counter started chatted up this couple that flies in once a year just to shop at their store, and she remembered them! Cute. This shop definitely sells some uber-trendy brands, but the prices are really half-off and even more in some cases. Sorry to say that not everything in there appealed to me, but they did have a great selection of summery dresses and funky t-shirts (which I love, I'm such a dude sometimes). I ended up buying a cute top, and I may drag the bf here to get him some cute western shirts. They also have a decent selection of shoes, bags, and accessories. I hate the mall. I know lots of people do, but I REALLY hate it. Couple that with a few extra "post-divorce" pounds I'm still working away, and shopping in general is just a sucky sucky thing. I used to be intimidated by Half-Off, despite their sale friendly name. Based on the window dressing, I had to assume everything was size 0 and, even at 50% off, too expensive for me. Well, wrong and wrong. I got a floor length maxi dress for $75. I thought it was polyester, so I wore it to a 70's party and didn't worry about getting it dirty. Turns out it was actually 100% silk! A designer silk dress for $75! They carry a ton of embroidered silk and cotton blouses. These are all unique and wonderful creations, I have gotten a ton of compliments. This is also where I bought my infamous "PIMP" belt, which I still wear with abandon. Nothing like a piece of leather with studs spelling out PIMP to really attract classy attention. Men and Women of Los Angeles, I implore you. Do not be afraid. Half Off will have what you need. read more

I saw this hella cute jacket, of course which they only had XS' left, but it was SO cute! Other things, I would completely pass on. Then I would continue walking through the store and I would see something else that is REALLY cute. Keep walking... everything else I would pass on. Very odd! They get you all excited and then they drop you down! :( Store setup reminds me of a swamp meet. I love big sales, and I love designer wear that is hard to find and 50% off or more. I walked in here a couple weekend ago just to browse and found a fab skanky clubbing top for $40, but even better, I found a sweet pair of Diesel jeans for only $50. Thats like a third of the cost of a regular pair of Diesels in the store. The jeans fit like a glove and I was very happy. I found several other tops, jackets, and jeans that I was tempted to buy but I did not want to max out my credit card. Its hard to find the right sizes, because everything is half off, and not everything in this store is to my liking, but if you peruse around long enough, you are bound to find a very good deal on something. read more

This location always has slightly different stuff than the one off of Melrose. I generally don't get as lucky here. Just like the other location, they have Johnny Was, 3J Workshop, Biya, Lucky, Diesel, etc. Merchandise changes all the time but I come here about twice a year and sometimes I have deja vu looking at the clearance rack. I actually love their collection. Their prices are appropriate for hipster scene and styles. However, I have not been to shop here since June 2013. I purchased several items and inquired about the return policy. The cashier behind the register asked "What, you don't like them?" I explained my wife might not agree with the items I bought, and I may need to return. The cashier said "You look like a big boy, I'm sure your decision is good."
