My engine splash shield was ripped off last night and a piece was still attached. Brandon (the assistant service manager) took the time to come look at my car in the parking lot and zip tied the remaining attached piece so it wouldn't drag on the pavement anymore. $250 for a "reboot" and I got my screen back cracked I brought my vehicle in to Half Price Auto Repair for a simple radio issue -- they charged me $250 for a software reboot and said it was fixed. When I got the car back, the radio screen was cracked, which wasn't the case when I dropped it off. They now claim the damage was "already there," but their own inspection notes never mentioned any scratches or cracks. If they really saw damage beforehand, it would've been listed. They didn't even touch the radio, supposedly -- so why is it broken now? Now I'm stuck with a cracked screen and no accountability. Be cautious bringing your car here -- if something goes wrong, they'll deny it and leave you paying for the damage. read more

Avoid this shop. Took my car in for an rc noise when accelerating. They did not find any cause for that but came back with a long list of repairs, including two engine mounts needed to be replaced and the brakes. Agreed to the engine mounts but took the car to a different mechanic shop for brakes because less than a year ago i was informed by another mechanic shop the brakes were fine. Also, the car was making a new noise. The new mechanic shop informed me I did not need new brakes and the noise was because the engine mount had not been properly tightened. In addition to that, the engine belt needed replacing but Half Price Auto did not mention that. So in summary, Half Price auto lied about needing new brakes, did not properly do the work I approved (loose engine mount), and missed the engine belt needed to be replaced. read more

We have taken several vehicles to this shop over the past few years and EVERY time we have taken a vehicle we have had to take it back because the problem wasn't fixed. My husband is extremely loyal and likes to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I don't recommend doing that with this business. Highly DISAPPOINTED with Half Price Auto! We took in our car because it was leaking & it needed a new water pump. It was "fixed" by them but upon returning of the car we noticed a LOUD whining sound that was not there before. We called and took it back in they changed the water pump again and it still was making the noise. We were told that the owner said there was nothing else they could do for us because the tech had noted a whine. We informed them the whine was not there previous to them changing the water pump. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) for this particular vehicle that states if the water pump is installed incorrectly ( not using correct tools) a loud whine can occur from the timing belt. Since told they weren't willing to do anymore we informed them we'd take it to another shop. Took it to the new shop, they said the noise was coming from the water pump area, TSB was read, water pump and timing belt were changed and finally the noise was gone. We took the invoice back to half price & showed them what was fixed for the noise to stop and that the TSB shows it was directly related to the water pump being changed incorrectly. Nobody ever reached out, we called and left a message, wrote on their BBB account and have yet to hear a response. We chose Half Price because they were local and had previously worked on our truck with no issue. Half Price is choosing to not take responsibility for their obvious screw up & is instead choosing to say that our car had already made the noise. Which is 100 % a LIE!!! read more

I'm leaving this review to let people know of my bad experience at this place. I recently got my spark plugs replaced there and the repair ended up over $300 dollars, despite the fact that the spark plugs themselves weren't more than like $85 (according to the receipt they gave me). I had already come in with a free diagnosis I had gotten done at Autozone which correctly determined the issue and told the mechanic who worked on my car (a man named Travis) about the results of that diagnostic. He tried telling me those machines at Autozone are cheap and not too reliable (which I didn't question too much). I left my car there and Travis called back to let me know it was indeed a spark plug issue but said he needed to order some kind of special spark plugs due to the make/model of my vehicle requiring them. He gave me the $300 dollar estimate, which I accepted. Later, once I got my receipt, it showed a breakdown of costs. The spark plugs came to something like $85 dollars. The ridiculous charge was a $122 dollar "diagnosis" for the issue (the remainder being labor costs, which the $122 dollar charge was classified as being part of labor) --I already gave him an understanding of where the problem was and even if I didn't, I thought most shops will not charge for a diagnosis as long as the repair is done at that shop. I thought because a family member of mine knew the owner of this place that I could rely on them not to screw me but I guess that was a bit naive. I would not recommend this place due to shady and dishonest business practices like the above described. If you do decide to get work done here, at the very least avoid this Travis guy. I myself will not use them again due to that guy's dishonesty. read more

I had some knocking on my 2008 Mercedes GL550. I took it to the dealer for an overall inspection since I wanted to know everything it would need so I could budget the repairs out. They charged $250 for the inspection. For the 1st repair, the dealer quoted me over $1600 to replace the oil filter housing, and the 2nd repair, the dealer quoted me almost $2400 to replace one of the motor mounts. I was shocked so I called around for second opinion estimates. I reached out to Half Price Auto Repair at 51st Avenue and Glenn. Adrian the owner was there and he told me he could do the exact same work for way more than half price. He quoted me only $250 plus the parts for the oil filter housing repair, and $475 plus parts for the engine motor mount repair (and that was for both motor mounts. This was amazing!! I was able to have well over $4000 worth of dealer work done for only $1100. If you're good at math, that's way less than Half Price!!! I was so excited that I asked them to also flush my brake and power steering fluids while it was in there. They did all this and I had it back the same day! This is by far one of the best experiences I've had at any repair shop. The staff was amazing and extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and able to go over and explain the repairs so you know exactly what you're getting. Total transparency and none of the bull sh*t. I highly recommend them for all your car repairs. I know I'll be back if I need anything else. I'm trying to get 250,000 miles out of my car so I know I'll be back with something. I love to do a lot of my own repairs if I can. I find it quite therapeutic and gratifying. Adrian brought up a really good point to me on my visit. He said at the rates they charge, I should just drop it off to them and I can do other more worthwhile things with my time. He may be right here! read more

I will preface my review with some relevant information. My family has lived in this neighborhood for 32 years. We have been using Ian Hugh since then when he had his gas station at 51st ave and Northern. My car was running very badly so I decided to take it in to see if they could determine what was wrong. I dropped it off and got a call about 3 hours later from Steve, the manager. Steve proceeded to tell me that my alternator was bad and I needed a new coil and wires in addition to the alternator. He told me that it would cost $900 for all this work. I told him that my alternator was about 17 months old and it should not be bad already. He then proceeded to tell me that it might just be a wire connecting the alternator then. I then said I would come pick up the car. When I got there I told him that I was really disappointed that when he told me what needed to be done and I rebutted with the age of my alternator, he changed his story and said it might be something different. He tried to backtrack what he told me on the phone and explained that the computer gave him the code that my alternator was bad so that is why it needed to be replaced. He apologized that I heard him wrong and said he hoped it would not mean I would be lost as a customer. I am lost as a customer. I am a firm believer that all customers should be treated well whether they have been a customer for 1 day or 32 years. I felt like I was being scammed and I am so glad I went to pick up my car. I decided to take my car to a dealer to get a second opinion. The dealer called me and said my alternator was fine and all I needed was the coil and wires. read more

TOLD ME IT WAS FLAT WHEN HE TOOK IT OUT (even tho i was the one that took it out no. Wasn't flat) put my flat tire back tire and sent me on my way. Even mentioned me having bad luck. Horrible. I have been going to this place for 12 years now. Ian and the mechanics he has hired are honest, reliable, friendly, and reasonably priced. I wish they were open Saturdays! More than once, ive taken my car somewhere else because no was out of town or it was a weekend. Most recently, I took it to a shop on Saturday because the AC was going on and off and it was hot outside! The shop wanted just over $1600 and said I needed a new compressor, condenser, and dryer. I could not do that, so intook it to Ian on Monday and they fixed it all for 1/4 of what the otger shop told me they'd do. Plus, it didn't even need all the stuff the other shop said it did. Now, it is working really well. In fact, it's 104 degrees outside and I'm cold writing this in the car. This is just one example of Mr. Ian Hugh and company coming through as the honest guy he is. After taking my car to another mechanic and having some work done, I was told that I needed to have my rack and pinion replaced. I called several shops for price quotes. Ian Hugh had the lowest price by several hundred dollars (in some cases $1000!) I made an appointment and took my car in. The mechanics fixed the car quickly and efficiently and the price was exactly what had been quoted. In addition, when my car continued to have a clunking noise (which I had been told by the previous mechanic could be repaired by replacing the rack and pinion), I took the car back to Ian Hugh. They quickly found the problem and fixed it at no charge, even though it was an error from the previous mechanic. I was greatly impressed by the prices and professionalism of Ian Hugh and will happily return! read more
