At checkout I asked if they have a rewards program which they do not however right now they have a summer reading program promo (for adults even!) which is super neat! So make sure to ask about this and find a new book to read. I'm kicking off my summer reading from their LGBTQ display they had set up. Wolfsong - it's really good one day in and already 100 pages through it! It's well written and just keeps leaving unanswered questions which is why I can't put it down currently! I've stopped in here a few times and I always enjoy the visit. The store is welcoming and warm, with not only an incredible selection of books, but also vintage videos, DVDs, albums, vinyls, journals, and lots of neat small gifts like mugs, calendars, planners, bookmarks, you name it! There's always something new and unique to find. The prices are reasonable and they are always willing to order a book for you from one of their other locations if they don't have it in stock. My visit this past weekend was particularly nice. The young woman who assisted me not only was able to instantly lead me to the book I hadn't been able to find, but she even had trivia about the book and told me some interesting factoids about the particular date of publication and the author's meaning behind the title! It is clear that this store employees people who are passionate about literature and want to provide a good experience to their customers. Awesome job! read more

My favorite bookstore of all time. They have a wide selection of used books, movies, vinyls, video games, and more. It is very well organized and easy to find whatever you are looking for. The employees here are very nice and always willing to help. I stop at every Half Price Books I can. I buy a lot of CD's and they always have something to add to my collection at a really fair price. I just wish they were around years ago. I also buy a lot of books. Mostly music biographies, self help, cook books, and books on photography. The books are always half the cover price or cheaper. They have a great bargain section where I have gotten some pretty expensive books for only a couple of bucks. I'm too impatient to wait for a book to come in the mail and I've got no interest in reading anything more than I have to on an iPad or computer. So for years I've been going to B&N, but when my last trip there cost me roughly around d $60 for 3 books I decided a change would have to be made. Found this location was the closest to me, but still kind of a hike. They have a great selection here for a fraction of the price! I haven't been to a HPB in so long and I'm wondering WHYYY! I can confidently say this is my go-to bookstore from here on out. They even have a clearance section where I picked up F Scott Fitzgerald's greatest works for $4!!!What a steal for all 5 books! They still have chairs and various places to sit. I'm more of a grab it and go type, but still nice to see you can settle in at a bookstore and read a chapter or two before buying! read more

Even though I read mostly on Kindle these days, I do love Half Price Books - especially this location. It's large, well organized and has a nice little sitting area (with a fireplace) that makes it a pleasant place to browse. The selection does vary, depending on what people have brought in. You can be assured of finding any number of copies of Dan Brown books or whatever else was popular 6 months ago. The key is to come in with an open mind as they may or may not have a specific item. Jackie Collins novels? Yep - by the shelf full. An obscure Balzac novel? Sometimes - I've certainly found one or two. The other media areas (CD's and DVD's) are fun to browse too - lots of Vanilla Ice CD's for $1 and a box set of Deadwood for $60 (too much IMO). If anything, HPB is a good barometer of what the fine people of the Western suburbs were really, really into a few months back. From what I can tell, that involves a lot of copies of Oceans Twelve, Stephanie Meyer books and Black Eyed Peas CD's. read more

Great selection of books at lower cost!! My boys and I spent a couple hours looking around. Only recommendation is more comfy seating.

I really like going to resale shops, and this one is no different. They have electronics (video games, CD's, earbuds, etc.) as well as nerdy collectables and other miscellaneous items in addition to books, and (true to their name) usually at about half of what I see in most other stores. The staff is really friendly, and Angelina especially was really helpful answering questions about a product and looking up the return policy for if it didn't fit my needs. I ended up needing to return the item, and it went very smoothly. Keep up the great attitude, and stay safe! read more

I probably come to this book store (and so much more!) every couple weeks just to see what's new. They sell a variety of items beyond books - DVDs/Blu Rays, board games, collectibles, puzzles, books on tape/cd... you will be hard up to leave empty handed from a place like this. The staff is always helpful and willing to look up availability and prices online, and offers to get items that they don't have. You won't get much in the way of cash when selling books or other items here. They understand the resale value and need to make money on it too - so if you're expecting more for your items you're better off selling online. Sections are split out clearly and in a great, easy-to-navigate way as well. Definitely recommend! read more

I've donated a few books here over the years and finally decided it wasn't worth the small amount I've gotten in return vs just donating the books elsewhere. I think they have a great selection and it's a well sized store to have a bit of everything. The whole "new" book section when you first walk in, throws me off everytime. It lures me in, but often the price is the same as you'd find at another retailer so I don't take advantage unless I have a coupon. I suppose to keep up with the other retailers they have to offer some new books as well and I'd guess that they don't set the price themselves. Just not where I'd typically go to find a new book. I do think they price some of their fresher offerings pretty high. I've bought books for the price of shipping (which is cheaper) but have seen like five copies sitting on HPB shelves... which I'm just wondering about supply and demand. Overall, I will still frequent HPB because I love bookstores and I don't ever care about reading a used book versus having a new one. But this location isn't ideally located for me either, so it's few and far between and for that, my wallet is grateful. read more

Decent prices to buy. But they offer pennies for DVDs and turn around and make a huge profit. I brought in about 75 DVDs, all in perfect condition. Was offered $19. For that I will donate to Salvation Army, the best place to donate. Or, I will sell online. Very disappointing. read more

I love Half Price Books. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. The store is absolutely filled to the brim with knowledge, stories, trinkets, journals, movies and much MUCH more. Their vinyl selection is fantastic, their CDs are all cheap, and their books are so reasonably priced. Honestly, I make it a point to stop at this place every time I am in Milwaukee. They had Tarot Card sets for less than $10, which you NEVER see, and a clearance section overflowing with $3 or less finds. I can not say enough how much I adore this store. This store is so fun to shop. Their mask policy is great! Everyone must wear one and they have extras if yours breaks or you forget one. Its clean and tidy there. You just never know what you will find old and new books and media alike. They always buy what I bring as well. Super thankful for this place. You have to check it out ! I have been shopping this location regularly, strictly as a buyer not a seller. I am very happy with the prices of used books and their rare and collectables do vary greatly in prices but have been becoming much more reasonable recently. I can internet search a book or game and the prices in the store are comparable, when in the past they were definitely over inflated. During the pandemic they do require masks but unlike other stores they are providing them to customers. This is a good policy and I appreciate their thoughtfulness. I don't wear a mask (for personal reasons) but if a store requires it, it's nice they have some on site to accommodate everyone. I gladly adhere to store policies when the store acts like this. read more

As far as buying things this store is great, I love shopping here and you get some really nice deals! The staff is typically helpful with finding what you need and it is a clean and well organized location. However, don't bother trying to sell things here if you want more than a few dollars. I brought in over 150 paperback fiction novels and was offered $2. They were not more than 10 years old and were in good condition. They were books you would typically see in their dollar section so $2 is a huge rip off of what they will be making off of them. read more

Nice selection of books that are all half price. They have about five or six comfy chairs around a fireplace to sit at if you are waiting to sell your stuff. They also sell videos and videogames but mostly books. In the back there is a discount section where I've found really great books for like a dollar or two. I think next time if I donate a books I might just take them to Goodwill and get the write-off because they don't pay that much for the donated books. Ever been to Borders or Barnes & Noble, see some books that look interesting...but you just can't justify spending $30-$50 bucks on it hoping it doesn't suck? Enter Half Priced books. The facility is large and clean. The staff is friendly and super helpful. Unlike other discount books stores this one is a chain with a logging system so if your book isn't onsite at one location, chances are another location has it. They have everything from AudioBooks and movies to out of print collectibles. Long story short, as someone who loves to read, I love Half Priced Books. read more

There's a reason they call this place half price crooks. My sister brought in a huge crate of fairly new books - most of which were purchased from Barnes and Nobel within the last 5 years. There were probably a total of 20 books in the box. They offered her $17. Then they turn around and sell those same books for $10 each at minimum. That seems like a pretty shady business if you ask me. I mean don't get me wrong - I love shopping here. But don't expect to get any money for your books. I'd say just donate them to Goodwill down the street. At least the money goes towards a good cause and you can write off your donation. The lady was also incredibly rude to her. A great place for used books. They tend to have a great variety and some books you'll have a hard time finding elsewhere. They also sell used videos/dvds/music, although I can't say I've really looked into those when I've been there. You can also sell your used books/dvds/etc. Don't expect to get too much money, though, but it's a good way to get an extra few bucks if you just have old books collecting dust. Fortunately, the prices of the books are also very cheap and reasonable, so you can easily sell a few books and use the money to buy a few. read more

I love this Half Price Books. The new location is AWESOME! It's so nice and clean, not too crowded (like the previous location). Still - like everyone else says, if you go to sell your books, don't expect to make a mint on selling your stuff here. They will give you a decent price for your stuff. The staff is usually pretty friendly (unless they have a ton of people, like Saturdays or Sundays), and are very knowledgeable. The variety of the books and audio is awesome. I found a small 4×6 sized prayer book and although it was in great condition, it was $29.99. I looked the book up and the publisher was doing it for $23 and Amazon was selling it for $29.99. When I mentioned this to an employee they said it's because it's out of print.... the publisher of the book is still selling the book, but it's out of print?? Not all books here are "half price" obviously...... why buy a used book for the same price as a brand new one?! read more

I went there this evening without high expectations, but I ended up being very glad I'd decided to go there. They had a terrific/very extensive selection, most of the books were in very good condition, and the prices were (mostly) quite reasonable. Just updating to reflect on their new location on the corner of Calhoun and Brookfield (okay so not so new anymore - shame on me!). We come here all the time, and it's even easier to get to. The store has gotten MUCH more organized and things are easier to find. They've upped the slickness ante and their checkout process is a bit smoother. This place runs like a well-oiled machine now, which makes shopping there even more of a pleasure. I love browsing or hunting for a specific item. I pretty much never enter this store without finding something for less than $10 to bring home with me. Excellent for gifts. read more

Go to any other location. The Brookfield hipster staff at this location is annoyed by your presence, and generally rude and condescending. First off , let me say that I wear my COVID mask into EVERY place of business throughout Wisconsin and have not one time been challenged on how I wear my mask. I COMPLETELY cover my mouth, bringing the mask up to the tip of my nose , so as not to fog the glassses I wear . While browsing in Half Price Bookstore in Brookfield I was called out by a female employee to " can you raise your mask ? " I complied with a friendly , " sure , no problem " . As I moved away approx. 30 feet from this employee , I continued browsing another shelf WITH MY BACK to her . I brought my hand up to adjust my mask as my glasses were fogging and could not read the book in my hands. Within seconds of doing so , this same employee challenged me yet again with ... " sir , are you having trouble with your mask ? ". I turned to her and replied " not really , my glasses are fogging though ". I was met with more verbiage of " well, we do provide other masks for you ". ... At this point , tired of the clear harassment from the " COVID Gestapo " , I slammed the book down and promptly left the store . I have probably spent over a thousand dollars over the last 5 years , but if I must be forced to wear a mask up to my eyes , completely suffocating my breathing, I won't be back. I actually exited the store and proceeded directly to Barnes and Noble where I inter - acted with three separate employees , wearing my mask as usual , and no one said a word... and ... It should be criminal for a company to offer so little to customers selling their merchandise. I brought in close to 200 mint condition CD's, titles that they were selling for $5.99 to $7.99, and they offered me $18 for everything, under 10 cents a disc. I understand they need to turn a profit but they don't need to do it at the expense of their customers. It honestly felt like they were trying to cheat, steal and con me out of my merchandise. There's some bad juju here; partly it's the hoi polloi and partly it's the staff. There's sometimes a smug attitude here by store employees that treat you like they're doing you a favor by giving you $10 for the set of books you previously paid over $300 for. Typically they'll pay you $1 for a book which they will turn around and sell for $12. Once I was told they pay nothing for computer books over two years old, but will only take them & recycle them. Of course, their computer books section belies that claim. Often it will depend on who appraises your books; there are several who are much more generous than the rest. Once you bring in a big stack of books they know they've got you. On the other hand, this really is a book-lover's paradise. It's got so many delightful treasures. Just avoid ever having to sell to them, as it will ruin your opinion of the place. read more

Helpful friendly staff. It is a clean store. Nice selection of books, CDs, DVDs, etc. There were a lot of new books at higher prices. But they still did not have the book I was looking for in new or used. The music is priced a lot higher than I would expect for a "half price" store. read more

Better than the average HPB; more used books, less publisher's clearance. Wasn't particularly crowded, except for the religion aisle.

Half Price Books is my second favortie store (behind Target) and this store is the one I mostly go to since it is the closes one to me. The only bad thing I have to say is that sometimes the seclection is limited but you have to exsept that with all the items being domated. I mostly buy DVDs there as I am a collecter and I have never had a disk I bought there not play. The store is clean and the staff is helpful and kind. The items are normally in great condition even if there used and I love coming to this store whenever I can! read more
