My new favorite local bar experience - I love everything about this place, starting with the bartender/woman-of-many-talents, Sammy! When you fall in love with a cozy little bar, it has much to do with how welcome you feel, the service and people you meet there. Half Time's Sammy is FULL TIME AWESOME! I was lucky to land there on Wednesday afternoon for "Whiskey Wednesday" - all top shelf whiskey drinks are $1 off. The food menu selection is outstanding, a lot more than you would expect, including breakfast (Hallelujah!) - we ordered a bunch of items from the appetizers and everything arrived hot from the fryer, not greasy, with great sauces. It got a bit crowded around 5pm, possibly in anticipation of Trivia Night(?), but the people were SO friendly and everyone was talking to everyone like it was a private party. Bravo! read more

I love it when you stumble upon a local watering hole and discover your new favorite source for pub grub. I had a crazy hankering for a grilled chicken salad, but considering this pandemic and my lack of familiarity with this town, I was at a loss. I scrolled several options and wasn't finding it. That's when my teen mentioned her sibling ordered take out from Half Time Bar. I pulled in and immediately saw the 21+ sign, bummer because I do appreciate places we can hang on the patio (but understand and also dislike the full on crying babies under foot). I went inside and grabbed a menu so she could decide what she wanted and returned with our order. There wasn't a grilled chicken salad, but there was a house salad, so I asked if they could add chicken. The bartender was super friendly and helpful, and said he could hook me up. I was thrilled. The weather was nice, so we chilled outside for a bit, and our order was up in no time. It was exactly was I wanted. The daughter's burger was fire. So glad we found them. The Half Time has become our new late night go to. They have probably the best chili I've ever had. Big chunks of meat, delicious cornbread. I gave it a two star because the first time we were there it was good. The tall bartender/ female was professional and served our meal like a seasoned worker that knew how to serve food. She didn't ask if we wanted more drinks. I did have to go to the bar to order one from her. She did seem overwhelmed with too many customers and only her to work both inside and outdoor patio. Interesting regulars there that are friendly and people that fall out of their chairs because they drink and who knows what else. My partner and I thought we may have to use our medical training...but fortunately they declined help. The second time we went for breakfast...the young woman with a pony tail was working that shift around 11AM...she was abrasive and not very good at talking orders or listening. She needs to learn some order skills and people skills...but ...maybe the owner hopes that people will forgive them because they are stereotypically "cute" for the young crowd. We will never return and we spend a lot more money. Glad to never return and our Realtor recommended it. read more

The food is almost alway 5 *, the staff -1 to 4* .so that averages out to the 3* rating. Have had a few bad meals in the past, but lately always good. The cooks are great, the bartenders mostly not so great, lot of attitude, laziness. A couple are pretty good. Big disappointment here. It looks like a cool little place and has a good atmosphere when you walk in, but that's about the extent of it. We waited 5-10 minutes before bartender even acknowledged us or brought us menus. We had to approach her before we even got that. The food was good.. really big portions and prices are pretty decent. I'm writing this review as I watch our server outside smoking a cigarette (and 2 other servers standing around talking) while we wait for our check... she dropped our food off about 25 minutes ago and hasn't been back since. This place is not for the snooty diner. I like it because it is a great price for a hearty meal. Usually breakfast for us. The food is really good. The service can be sometimes slow, but not unreasonable. The waitress/bartender is the only one there a lot of times. Of all of the times we have been here, (over 10) the server is always apologetic and she (all of the servers have been ladies) is on top of things as much as possible! I think our secret may be out , because tables are harder to find when we go. Lots of different types of people, TVs to watch sports and a jukebox that is usually going. I love this place! read more

Absolutely incredible place serving salem going on ten years! Amazing daily specials from .50 cent wings on Mondays and a full NY steak dinner Friday nights for $15 bucks! This is the "Cheers" of Salem, OR. It is a small comfy sports bar with a familiar feel. Anytime the bartender can recall every band members name from the band that plays next door in the basement of vintage clothing shop is a reminder of how awesome neighborhood bars can be. At the center of the awesomeness is Kristy - mom, bartender, and all-around fantastic bartender. She is the reason this bar gets 5/5 stars and why I'm even writing a review. When I ordered an Irish Whiskey, she suggested Teeling because she did not have Redbreast. It turned out to be a fantastic whiskey. Wow. This place is a breath of fresh air. My partner and I stopped there after our workout one night recently. We weren't sure what to expect as it has the look of a dive outside. We were pleasantly surprised when we crossed the threshold. Clean, lively, and friendly. The staff behind the bar yelled hello as if we were old friends. We were invited to sit and immediately the Bartender/server came over. He was exuberant in his highlighting the menu. We both opted for the dinner special (A French Dip with Sweet Potato Tots.) The meal was excellent. I had never had sweet potato tots before and they were awesome! The service was impeccable and quick. The chef came out and checked on our meal personally! Honestly, the tots were plentiful and we took a good portion home with us. If I were to make any criticism, I would suggest they expand their selection of local micro brews. I have noticed with increasing pleasure that the parking lot is filling up almost every night now! Good job. We will definitely return. read more

This is an above average dive bar. Bartenders are very good and always provide prompt service even when it is busy. Clientele is an interesting mix of ages and styles, usually pretty friendly. You probably won't get stabbed here. Food is cooked well, though the menu is fairly boring. Specials are very good deals.
