Had the utmost lovely time celebrating a friend's birthday here! The wine recommendations were on point and lovely. We ate on one of their cute outdoor tables because the sun was out. If you're looking for a cute wine bar with delicious small plates, this is your place!

Very small space, but staff was very kind, friendly, and knowledgeable! The half off happy hour deals were super worth it. We didn't love the selection of wines (we tried the buttery orange and the Lubanzi) and the small Oscietra caviar tin was priced at $193 (be sure to ask since prices aren't listed on menu), but made for a nice date.

Had been following the progress of Halfseas Wine Shop for awhile on IG so was eager to check them out on their grand opening (April 1, 2024)! I met up with 2 friends and we had a seat at the bar/counter, which was perfect! It made it easy to ask questions about the menu (both food and wine) and to interact with the staff. We were treated to a small glass of complimentary bubbly to start off, which was a nice touch. :) I enjoyed the Txakoli and then tried a half pour of an Italian white after that. Love that they offer half pours (as well as a small taste to ensure you like the wine before you get a glass). Fairly large food menu (mostly snack-y type things that pair well with wine but a big variety!) Everything sounded so good but we opted for the mixed nuts and the 5 for $40 charcuterie where you pick any 5 from the meat and cheese sections. The staff was helpful in describing what some of the meats were like - we got the beef and lamb and both were really enjoyable! Enjoyed the cheeses and honey/dijon which pairs well. Staff was really friendly and down to earth - definitely enjoyed them! Thanks to Mary (and team! cannot remember everyone's names) As for the vibes, it's a neighborhood feel and definitely not pretentious! It felt bright and airy inside and just overall really pleasant. The space is relatively small so probably not ideal for a group larger than 4 people. I am so excited to have another wine bar/shop to frequent and look forward to coming back again soon. :)

Loved this chilled red blend from willamette valley

We came for the first time on Thursday with friends and we'll definitely be back. The inside is bright and airy, flooded with natural light. It's got a modern beach house feel, meets you're walking into a summer party that's already started. There's a bucket of chilled wines on the counter, ready for a break from the ice. The space is small and intimate with indoor and outdoor seating, mostly for groups of 2-3. I read that the concept started as a wine club and recently opened as a brick & mortar wine bar (April 2024). They are meticulous with their wine offerings -- if a wine isn't a "hell yes" it's a "hell no." I love that. They focus on interesting and delicious wines, with an amazing snack list. Any snack menu that has creme fraiche and chips (AND caviar tins) is a place for me. The four of us shared a chilled red blend from Willamette Valley called Limited Addition that was so so good, we ran it back two more times (and then took a bottle home). It is a beautiful color and emanated summer. Fruity tasting notes (but not sweet) and highly crushable. We took the bottle to the gorge this weekend and it was refreshing in the heat. They have happy hour 2-5 daily where glass pours and caviar tins are half off. Sign me up to come back for that.

Exceedingly friendly staff and adorable space. This is such a perfect spot for a sunny afternoon. We stopped by here while waiting for our reservation at Brimmer and Heeltap and it was delightful. We ordered the '22 Lucious Skin Contact and the Unicycle. The staff gave excellent descriptions of the wines and were kind enough to share samples with us as we made our decision. They are still working out the kinks and quirks as they are beginning to open, but definitely on track to be one of our go to wine bars in Seattle. Thanks y'all!

I was 100% sure that I would look like an idiot trying to recreate a delicacy that is made with such grace. Tracy made it easy and fun for us to enjoy ourselves while making some outstanding sushi. Everything is set up to be foolproof (for the most part, I still found a way to mess a few things up), so you don't have to worry about it. You'll be interacting with others who are making things for the first time, and are just looking for a different type of date night. Tracy was also teaching us methodology and science behind why sushi is made a certain way in Japanese culture, even going as deep as helping us prepare rice to a certain temperature before using it. And it's good that they make the process simple here, because you're making your own dinner at the end of the night. The sushi class is a fun one, because you eat as the night goes on. You start off by making a couple hand rolls, then some another sushi course (blanking on the name), and end up making a massive sushi cake as the final dish, something I have never even seen or heard of before. I love what the pantry is doing for the community by having these cooking classes, and I can't wait to get back in here to try some more.

You can choose to sit on the main floor, outside, or upstairs. Got a flight of red wine, a flight of whites, and a flight of chocolate (which comes with a glass of wine specifically as a pairing. This was my favorite wine). AND a free snack bowl was provided! The workers did an excellent job. They brought out the wines one at a time- describing each one in detail, even pointing out which were their favorites. The service was very personable, which is something I don't always get at other places that do wine tastings. The chocolates were melt in your mouth, with unique flavors, making it extra fun. I must note- getting the flights that we did was pricey, but I know, most wine tastings and fancy chocolates are going to be expensive. I also wish there was a little more chocolate in the flight. It was difficult to cut up and share. However, this was a wonderful experience that I'm happy to have tried once, and they deserve the 5 stars!

We ordered two first class flights and a chocolate flight. The first class is a red flight, but starts with champagne (yes real champagne). I've never had champagne to start a flight and I absolutely loved it. The flight was well placed with each wine growing bolder. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and took time to explain each wine to every table. The chocolate flight was the best chocolate I have ever had, the chocolatier was even serving our wine and brought out the chocolates as well. He explained every piece and where each ingredient was from. The chocolate flight came with a port that paired well with every chocolate. This wine tasting room is thoughtfully curated and you can tell with every glass and piece of chocolate.

And also our latest night out since New Year's #2020. We started off munching on appetizers including rosemary almonds and some delicious cheese and crackers while we made our dishes. The last time I made pasta from scratch was in my seventh grade cooking class during which I was always worried about being late to the next class period since the teacher never left us time to clean up. And I had to bribe my Spanish teacher to not mark me late by giving him my finished product. Needless to say I did not remember anything and this time was a much more pleasant experience. The pasta machine is super cool and I won't share the secret to the best alfredo sauce...you'll just have to take the class and learn it yourself! Then while we let the pasta sit we worked on the ragu. Veggies galore and Joni is great at ensuring everything can be vegetarian and working with your dietary preferences. Joni shared many different techniques and also the science behind the making of the food. For example, reasons that cooking a veggie a certain way provides more flavor. For dessert, tiramisu. Honestly, we were stuffed but always leave room for dessert! Anything you don't eat you can take home! Joni is super organized and was very accommodating of my wild schedule. Her kitchen set up is outstandingly beautiful with high end appliances and also ensuring COVID-safe measures. Plus the candle-lit dinner and recipes to take home are just a few of the wonderful detailed touches. Plus LEFTOVERS FOR DAYS. Like leftovers for a week. Of it all! A great date night in Italy!

Boy were we right. If you don't read my full review, all I can say is that Chef Joni was an EXCELLENT instructor and my team members and I had such a good time. We were smiling ear-to-ear the entire time we were there. Highly recommended from this Yelp reviewer. Detailed review below: Communication (5/5): We used the Cozymeal platform for everything and found their interface amazing. Chef Joni was very pro-active and communicated with me several times before the event date on January 17, 2020. What stood out about this communication was that she really wanted to know us. She asked good questions like "Why did you choose this class?", "What do you hope to learn from it?", "What are your goals?" etc. Really appreciate this since she can cater the class to exactly your needs. She was also very accommodating when I told her that one of our team members was a vegetarian so she made sure she had a vegetarian option on hand during our class. Finally, before the event, she gave us extremely detailed directions to the location of the event (including a picture) and what to expect. Really outstanding communication here. Location (5/5): Her location is in her house located in Sunnyvale near major highways. Lots of street parking once you arrive so no issues on parking. The inside is well decorated and everything seems to be remodeled including her kitchen which was very modern. See pics to get an idea. Food (5/5): The Master Italian Classics Cooking Class contains the following menu: 1.) Antipasti - Cheese, crackers, almonds, pepper jelly to snack on throughout the whole meal while you are there 2.) Handmade Fettuccine Alfredo 3.) Ragu (Mushrooms, many vegetables) - Our protein was lamb for the meat-eaters and tofu for our vegetarian team member. 4.) Tiramisu - for dessert. I don't want to spoil too much of the class but I'll share some of the highlights for me at least. Preparing the Fettuccine Dough from scratch including folding it, kneading it, was a really fun experience. Also running through the dough through the pasta machine to stretch it and finally cut it into actually the noodles was such a cathartic experience. I'm really happy I got to experience that. The Ragu was so delicious and so healthy at the same time as we barely used any vegetable oil and we put in so many vegetables. Finally, the tiramisu making was actually pretty easy but delicious at the same time. Now that I have been through how to make Tiramisu, I am confident I can make it for a party without issue. Also, if you can't finish all the food you make, Chef Joni gives you take-out boxes to bring home so you can enjoy the food again! Our group also had leftover uncooked fettuccine and we got to take that home. Chef Joni (5/5): Last but not least Chef Joni was an excellent instructor. She was so bubbly and easy to talk to and really put the group at ease very quickly. She was masterful on dividing up certain tasks in the kitchen so we can all participate in the cooking journey and made sure we were doing the steps properly. We asked her so many questions during our time in the class and she happily answered every single one of them without being annoyed. It was nice to finish the class with all of us including Chef Joni eating at the table. Chef Joni's passion for cooking really shines through her class and we had a great time! Our team can't wait to come back. Thank you Chef Joni for a great class.

Moonrise Bakery has a pretty good selection of croissants and other baked goods, which intrigued us enough that we ended up purchasing two: Kouign Amann ($5.95) - Overbaked and burnt on the surface, the exterior layer flakes off and tastes extremely acrid. The caramelized sugar layer is also baked hard resulting in a much firmer toffee-like texture rather than more sticky caramel. It's not too sweet and there's a bit of salt sprinkled in the center to bring out the flavor (although since it's overcooked, the flavor is on the more burnt side). The dough itself is layered pretty well and the interior texture is ideal, airy and chewy. Unfortunately the acridity on the exterior really dampened my enjoyment of the pastry. (3/5) Pain au Chocolat ($5.65) - This chocolate croissant is crisp and flaky with a rich buttery taste. It has pretty good lamination and honeycomb structure. Two classic chocolate batons added to the interior make this a solid croissant. I have no real complaints about this one; it's definitely a good eat. (5/5) I'd return to Moonrise to try some of their other baked goods. As a reminder to myself: don't order anything that looks too dark in color and/or looks burnt.
