We dropped in to halibut King and picked up a combination of four halibut with a large fry and an additional order of large onion rings. very impressed with the service our order was taken quickly and was given to us within 10 minutes. The portions of the halibut are quite large compared to what we're used to in some places the fish the chips and the onion rings were cooked well the seating area which we did not set up was very open and with lots of windows probably a great place to sit down and have your meal.. we were impressed at how quick the fish and our meal was cooked and delivered placed a nice bag and given to us the restaurant is clean and we are impressed with this place. definitely recommend this restaurant restaurant.. read more

I was out for a drive, looking for somewhere to have lunch, when I came across Halibut King Fish & Chips in Whitby, so I decided to stop in. They have a lot on their menu, including burgers, souvlaki, breakfast, and more but a sign out in the parking lot caught my attention: Haddock & Chips $10.99. That's what I had! I got a large piece of fish, nicely battered, a whole bunch of fries, and house-made tartar sauce. It looked really good, although I would have preferred my fries to be cooked just a wee bit longer. Some coleslaw on the side would also have been nice but it was already a good deal at this price. The fish was perfectly cooked, and flaky. After seeing that this restaurant was receiving mostly great reviews, I decided to have the lunch halibut and chips special. I have to say that the service was slow but eventually received my halibut and chips and to my surprise, I received a giant plate with a VERY TINY piece of halibut (btw, I dont think it was really halibut) and I questioned the waitress on why it was so small and she just ignored me and walked away. Decided to give this place a try as we were looking to try another establishment but they were closed. Upon entering, its classic ambiance of a fish & chip mom & pop shop like. The place is quite cold where you need to keep your jacket on while dining in. Here was what we ordered: Light Breakfast-$9.95 (comes with 2x eggs, 2x sausage, home fries, toast) - eggs were standard, and the sausage links were comparable to others but it may be frozen.. The thing that stood out the most was their home fries which is comparable to roasted potatoes you get in greek restaurants. Got the Haddock & Chips Special-$11 - The haddock didn't taste fresh and the batter was all over the place as the pieces didn't seem together. The chips were okay, although mainly getting the tips and crisp part of it and not actual whole cut fries with potato taste. I think their highlight for this was their homemade tartar sauce. Homemade Cheeseburger-$8.75 (you have to ask for toppings & sauce) otherwise you only getting burger with cheese on it. - IMO this was their best item as the burger was well seasoned and the meat was decently tender. Pricing on certain items seem fair overall, although not the best we had but average. The front attendant was friendly and easy-going. read more

So this was my first time here. Its not a big place but certainly a good place to hang out and share a meal with friends. The food was pretty decent and the service was good. The place was clean. I had the Halibut and Chips which came with coleslaw. Very tasty, and prepared well. Lets do it again some time. I am very excited to be the first to review this place. Originally, we had planned to go to another place for lunch but that place was closed. I'm really glad that place was closed and we ended up here! Upon entering, we got seated immediately. Place was very clean. We ordered the Caesar Salad which was pretty good. We also ordered the poutines which were delicious! The fries were fried nicely and the cheese and sauce just meshed perfectly. We also ordered the fried scallops, fried cod and fried halibut. They were all pretty good, and fresh out of the fryer. Service was very friendly. Will definitely return when in the area! read more

Came across this place on Yelp as we were driving through. Great meal and very generous portions. I usually eat a regular meal but couldn't finish the whole piece of fish it was so big and only half my fries. My husband and I could have ordered 2 piece halibut and fries and had plenty for both of us. read more

Had it yesterday. A pleasant surprise! Since Flying Fish closed down at the end of last year we needed a new F&C joint. Stopped in last night and had take-out. Huge halibut meal that served 2 for 15.99. Came with 2 fish and a massive amount of fries. Also a fresh salad big enough for 2. Definitely recommended. read more

Excellent fish n chips! I live in Scarborough and cannot find a place like this anywhere here. I ordered 2 halibut fish with chips for $12.99, yes folks I did say $12.99. The fish was quite large and came with fries, a little coleslaw on the side and, tarter sauce. Fish was cooked just right and not greasy at all. The owner(s) were very pleasant and asked how I liked the food! They seem to care about their customers. I highly recommend this place, in fact I will make the drive whenever I want quality food at an affordable price. read more

My old place closed, owner retired, tried all of the other fish and chips stores and they were not good. Halibut King is the best in the area, large portions great fish price is good. There is a reason this restaurant has 5 stars, the food is good. But please tell the waitresses to smile :) read more
