Love this place. It fits like 4 people in the entire 'shop' but it's a great little place. They have a great selection of watches and the people who work there are pretty knowledgeable. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Brought a nice watch in for a simple battery change. The young tech ( if you can call them that) had a hard time removing the back of the watch and a really tough time putting it back on the watch ( after breaking the gasket and a very exerted effort he forced it on). Both my wife and I just looked at each other in disbelief. When I got home I went to reset the calibration of the watch ( time/date/month/year etc..) and the watch's stem comes right out of the watch into my hand! I couldn't believe it but wasn't surprised considering what I had witnessed at the store. I went back the next day to bring this to their attention and their salesperson Brody who was very rude and accused me of breaking it. They took no responsibility at all and in fact pretty much called me a liar. Brody displayed his rude and poor customer service skills in front of many customers this day...I was truly embarrassed. He finally said that he would send the watch to the service center for an estimate to see what we were up against repair wise .....350$ to fix it! When he called me with the news he was once again confrontational and refused to fix my watch at their expense. I even offered to meet them halfway and he refused again claiming that I broke the watch. I then escalated the matter to the owner/ operator Josh Ellner. I arranged to meet him at his Bedford location. When I arrived and asked to speak to him it was obvious to me that he had already been apprised of the watch and the situation beforehand by Brody and he was already defensive and had no intention of hearing me out. No matter what I said he was not going to take responsibility for his staff and the damage they had caused. Terrible business sense and horrific customer service. This turned out to be a very expensive battery replacement!! STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!!!!! THEY ARE WILLING TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND TALK A GOOD SCHTICK BUT UNWILLING TO SUPPORT THEIR CUSTOMERS WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOU OR YOUR PROPERTY!! The watch returned because it was broken -- sounds are not comfortable -- and yet the return was rejected on the pretext of "scratches". The scratches were basically and had nothing to do with the problem, and the shop ignored the real malfunction and did not provide any refund or replacement. I brought my new watch here to have a few links taken out of the band which was done promptly on the spot. After wearing the watch over the course of a weekend, I felt the need to have another link removed though I had, at the store, stated that it felt good during my initial visit. I explained to the same young lady who had done the initial work my dilemma and she immediately resized and removed an additional link. I was looking up stores in this mall to see what it had, and saw there was a watch store that sold/serviced Wittnauer. I had a Witt that didn't work, and wanted it repaired, so dropped in. They asked me to leave it with them and they'd figure out what was going on. Turns out, it needed a new battery. That was it. They billed me $8 for the battery and shipped it home to me for free. A shady outfit could have sold me a new mechanism. A service charge would have been entirely fair, or at least getting me to cover shipping. But nope. Used to be a regular customer but never again. 2 years ago I bought a Bulova Watch for ~$800 from these guys. Within 3 months one of the parts was coming off and I sent it in for repair. Again early this year the same thing happened and the crystal chipped. I sent it in for repair before the pandemic shut everything down. In late May I called to inquire knowing that there's was a pandemic and everything was slower. I expected to be told it wasn't ready and wouldn't be for some time. What I didn't expect was a stand-offish attitude by the owner Josh. He stated I may have to pay for some of the repair but wasn't sure. I told him I would hope not and he became extremely defensive which sparked an argument. He's very poor with dealing with conflict and upset customers. What do you expect from a generation raised to think life is roses and rainbows all the time? He said he would call next week with news and he'd check up on it. The next week came and went, I called him the following week to inquire. He said he had no updates. A courteous customer service rep (let alone a manager or owner) would've called when he promised a customer and said "sorry I don't have any updates" which would have calmed an upset customer a little bit. But nothing. No word. Another 3 weeks later I inquired about my watch, I'm even more upset but not by the fact that Bulova is taking so long, I know these are trying times, but by the fact that Halifax Watch can't seem to make a courtesy call to its customers when it says it will. I come from an upbringing and a time that when you said something, when you told your customers you were going to do something you did it. EVEN IF THERE'S NO NEWS, you see Josh, it's to make your customer feel like they're not forgotten and that their business means something of value to you. Nothing from Halifax watch. He actually told me "who would want to call and deal with a customer who is angry" ...uhh, that's your job, that's the business you're in. You have to take the good with the bad. I don't like being upset but the situation warranted it and he had no idea how to diffuse it. In fact, he excelled at escalating it and making an angry customer angrier with his defensiveness. I WAS angry and tried telling him why but he kept interrupting me and then actually called me a clown. I'm not exaggerating, he said that exact word. This is an established small town business. I hung up. I called back and spoke with a woman who was the manager, she would not tell me who the owner was. So I looked it up and it's Josh himself. Wow. I have no words for that. How did this person ever pass the course on dealing with upset customers in retail management or business? He probably didn't. I will NEVER walk into this establishment again and it has nothing to do with the quality of the product they represent or sell. It has everything to do with the way they treat customers. It's EASY to be nice to a happy customer. It's HARD and requires really good character and customer service skills (the business you're in) to empathize and relate to an upset customer. Far too many of these snowflakes take it personal. Like they're being personally attacked. If you want to run a successful business you have to realize that not everything is peachy all the time and sometimes customers get upset and angry. Help them, don't call them a clown and get defensive. 0 stars if I could. I hope people catch on to this place and avoid. I love and prefer to support local, and there are many places in town that I do and we have a great relationship. However, online retail should be calling out businesses like this. They had once before helped me replace a watch strap, however I was not overly impressed with their prices for such a small strip of leather. My friend and I just came back from The Halifax Watch Company after having the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in person from the owners son!! They tried to lie about why my friends watch still wasn't fixed, REFUSED to refund her money even though she had been without it for 4 months already because it had to be sent back once already and she STILL needs to send it in AGAIN because they DIDN'T fix it!! He was more concerned with the company having to pay to send it back in so wouldn't give any money back. He was extremely condescending, didn't show any empathy (even though the watch has sentimental value), and didn't even apologize!! There was another customer next to us and she spoke up and told the owners son that he was just arguing but not helping us get anywhere with the issue. The owners son (who is the General Manager...believe it or not!!) told this customer that it wasn't any of her business. She then said that they just lost a customer.. We asked for the owners name/number and he refused to give it to us and instead gave us his card and said if we have any issues to contact him!! REALLY?!?! Then he actually told us that his father is much worse to deal with!!! Many weeks ago, I took an old watch to The Halifax Watch Company at the Halifax Shopping Centre for repairs. The clerk told me the cost would be between $200-$300. As I was about to leave, the clerk asked if I wanted to send it for an actual estimate. I agreed. She told me that someone would call me with the estimate. I did not hear from anyone for several weeks so I called to inquire about the estimate and was told that I would hear from them soon. About four weeks later, I received a phone call from "Josh the general manager" to inform me that my watch was back and that it had been repaired because I called to put a stop on the repairs the day after it was fixed. This was a lie. I had no intention of paying $200-$300 and had only agreed to an estimate. I NEVER authorized the repairs. Josh said that he would give me a deal and only charge $100 for the repairs because this is what the store paid. I called Josh back to inform him that given that the work was done, and that mistakes happen and I would pay the $100. But, I wanted to clear up what actually happened. I did not "change my mind" about the repairs. I had NEVER authorized the repairs. What followed was the worse customer service experience I have ever had in my nearly 60 years. Josh was unprofessional, childish, rude, and displayed an alarming lack of skill in customer service. Inasmuch as I agreed to pay the $100, he continued to try to blame me for the store's mistake. I'm not sure why he would offer me the special price if I had changed my mind after they had the watch for many many weeks. Nowhere on my receipt was there any mention that I had agreed to the repairs. Clearly the employees of the Halifax Watch Company were lying. Josh was belligerent and threatened to send my watch back to have "them" break it. The experience was like speaking to an immature adolescent who wanted to project blame and avoid taking responsibility for something that was clearly his fault. When I asked to speak to his boss he replied that he was the general manager and soon after, hung up on me. Two days later, I called The Halifax Watch's Company's sister store in Dartmouth to ask to speak to the owner. The staff member in that store agreed to forward my phone number to the owner and reassured me that that he would call. I did not receive a call, so the next day I called the store again. The phone was answered by "Josh the general manager" who told me that the owner "never responds to complaints", that he will never call me, and that the employee should never have told me that he would call (yes, another lie). Josh apologized for his behaviour, on the phone during our earlier contact, but justified this by saying that he gets angry when he feels challenged and then accused me of doing the same (some apology)! I agreed to pay for the watch again, but wanted him to acknowledge that his store had made a mistake. His thinly veiled pretence of cordiality quickly dissolved and he reverted back to his previous behaviour and, this time, to name calling. He calling me a "bully" even though he was attempting to bully me and reacting to my refusal to knuckle under to his threats. He once again threatened to break my watch. It was the worst display of customer service. I note that I mentioned to him that I had a witness on the day that I left my watch for an estimate. He quickly responded that my husband would not be a good witness. He must have viewed an in-store tape which clearly did not support his version of the story. He knows I did not authorize the repairs and that he is lying. Today I made a last effort to give the store the opportunity to come clean. I went to The Halifax Watch Company to pick up my watch. As it turns out, my watch was not broken (more lies). It just needed a cleaning which cost $100. I have more than 15 watches and have never paid $100 for a cleaning. Josh refused to discuss this matter with me and proceeded to aggravate me to the point that I actually lost my cool. Josh, when a customer is willing to accept that you made a mistake and work toward a win-win, it might be best not to lie and to antagonize them because they, will tell all their friends, will write an unfavourable review on this site and will make a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which is now posted on their reputable site for the next 36 months. The only good thing that I can share about this experiences with others is that is would seem that the mark-up on repairs in The Halifax Watch Company is well over 200% and that a watch cleaning costs $100 !! I would encourage everyone to please take your business to a reputable jewelry store for honest and courteous service. I went here on a recommendation. I just needed a battery put in my watch. The watch works fine, I had the battery removed (while the watch was still working) a couple years ago as I knew i would not be wearing it. I went up to the counter and said i needed a battery and there is not a battery in it. She took the watch and said, "If i open it, we cannot guarantee it will be waterproof". Its a gold dress watch, its not waterproof in the first place. She opened the back and said "Oh, there is no battery, i will just have to guess at which battery". She put a battery in, didn't even put the back on and just stared at the hands with a loupe (there is no second hand). "It doesn't work" she said, "I don't know who made the watch so it will likely be $60-$70 to get it fixed". Its not broken, It just needs a battery. The entire time I felt like i was somehow bothering her by wanting a battery for my watch. I took my watch and left, I went to Dr Clock, $10 and 5 minutes my watch had a new battery and was all ready to go. They even mentioned that taking the battery out before putting the watch in storage was a good idea. I paid a little bit more for the battery but service was great and I didnt feel like I was bothering them. read more

My experience with this company took place at the Halifax location and the person I dealt with her name was Sarah. It turns out that Sarah was the manager and it didn't take me long to realize that Sarah lacked the simple skills needed to present me with a solution to my simple problem. She did not once make eye contact and when I requested to speak to the owner, her reply was "absolutely most definitely not". The Halifax Watch Company does not stand behind the products they sell. Their manager (Sarah) lacks the knowhow or training needed to deal with customers and tackle their concerns. In fact, this manager has mastered the art of placing the blame on the customers, provide no solutions and leave us with no options. Last year, I bought two watches from the Halifax Watch Company and after my experience with their staff, I will not go back nor do I recommend the Halifax Watch Company to anyone who cares or values customer service. read more

My wife bought me a watch for Christmas, not realizing that I already had a Tissot that I hadn't worn for years (it needed a battery). She was in the store with our new baby who was fussing, didn't notice the sign behind the cash stating NO REFUNDS, and we now have a substantial 'store credit' that we don't need or want. Beware the no refund policy, it's unexpected for a big-ticket purchase from a reputable business. Furthermore I took the Tissot in for a battery; I was warned it would not be waterproof any longer if I got the battery replaced, but I wasn't expecting the big gouge out of the edge of the case back - I need to file the burr down before I can wear the watch again. I have no receipt for the battery change service so no further recourse with this vendor. Maybe my store credit can cover repairing the damage?... read more
