Ask the Community - Hallberg Family Dentistry

Hi what would be the cost of a root canal on tooth 21? and do you accept Aetna Dental insurance?

Robert - Thank you for your inquiry! Our doctors cannot properly quote treatment costs without first doing an evaluation of the tooth. As for the insurance question, we accept most insurances although we are not in-network with all insurance…

I'm not usually one to leave a bad review, but I had to say something about my experience with this…read moreoffice. I recently had a routine cleaning & received a bill showing I was charged the out-of-network rate, while I was informed this office is in-network with my insurance. When I reached out to the office to ask about the bill, I was initially told that I should be in-network, that they would look into this for me & would get back to me later that day. By the end of the following day, I hadn't heard anything back, so I called them again. They just told me what we already knew, which was that insurance only covered 60% of the bill (the out-of-network rate). At this point, I looked up my benefits on my insurance's website just to be sure they hadn't changed. My research confirmed my coverage for that appointment should have been 100%. I even called my insurance company, who also confirmed that the visit should have been covered 100% but was billed improperly. I called again & talked to someone else, who agreed that it was weird that the bill wasn't covered & that they would reach out to the manager & get back to me. Nearly 1 week later & I never heard back from anyone. Instead, I got another message stating that I still had an overdue bill. So, I reached out a fourth time to ask if someone was looking into the bill like I was told. I received a message back stating, again, that my insurance only covered 60% of my bill. Which, as mentioned, we'd already established. At this point, I was quite frustrated as I didn't seem to be making any progress with the bill or getting through to anybody, so I went in-person to the office to try to talk to someone in billing or a manager (which I had to take time out of my work day to do since I work full time). The manager was not available when I went in, so I asked them to at least send her a message for me along with a break down of my insurance benefits (which I printed out for them). I am still waiting to hear back. I work in the medical field, so I understand that things can take time, especially with billing issues and insurance. I also know a lot about insurance at this point and understand that sometimes claims are mistakenly billed or processed improperly. What's frustrating to me is the lack of communication and unwillingness to look further into things for me, especially when I had reached out to the office four different times. Instead of trying to understand what the problem was, it was mostly just met with the same phrase over and over: "Your insurance covered 60%." Instead of this office advocating for me, I've had to go way out of my way to advocate for myself. I believe it's important to advocate for your patients, and that just has not been my experience with this office. I can't imagine what this situation would be like for another patient who hasn't worked with insurance, who may not understand fully what their insurance benefits are and who may not know how to advocate for themselves. Hopefully this office is able to help me out with this situation, though I'm not inclined to return for more appointments in the future. Certainly not worth the headache or wasted time.

She is…read morecompassionate, easy to talk to, and when I had my first cavity treated, it was a painless and smooth process. I truly appreciated her care. Unfortunately, my recent experience was very disappointing. I currently do not have dental insurance and am a student, so I am paying out of pocket. I wanted to schedule a basic cleaning because I strongly believe in preventative care. However, I was told I would be required to enroll in an in-office plan that includes X-rays, in addition to paying for the cleaning itself. I explained that I cannot afford additional diagnostic costs right now and requested to decline new X-rays. The office already has X-rays from one year ago. I was told that due to "liability," they would not provide a cleaning without taking new X-rays and that there were no exceptions. As a result, I was refused care. It's discouraging that preventative care that helps patients avoid more serious and expensive problems is inaccessible without agreeing to additional services. For students and uninsured patients trying to stay proactive about their health, policies like this create unnecessary barriers. Unfortunately, I will either have to go without care until I can get insurance again or find somewhere else that actually provides accessible healthcare.

I suffer with PTSD/anxiety and the dentist was just not a place I ever wanted to be-LOL! However, Dr Bacon was incredibly patient with me, and calm. His personality just lights up a room. So I felt at ease, I'm pretty sure I even laughed at my first appointment instead of booking it out the front door. Had a bunch of cavities from not seeing a dentist regularly so that was a stressful experience financially, but not so much physically. The front desk gals helped me get the financial stuff squared away. Not that it was expensive, I just wasn't prepared for it. I do believe their prices after the insurance I have is very reasonable. He made sure I was never in pain. Took breaks if I needed. Angel had also been the most amazing dental hygienist ever 6 months. She knows me so well, that she already knows what different steps to take to handle my sensitivity/pain levels. I truly appreciate having the best dental folks in town. I'm thankful I was directed to Dr Bacon's office when I first moved to town. I'm forever grateful.

After taking over the practice, he never introduced himself to existing patients -- a small gesture that goes a long way in a small town. He's generally hard to approach, and when I had a crown done, he didn't walk me through the procedure or make time for questions, leaving me anxious and in the dark. The front desk staff are kind and accommodating, but unfortunately they're not the ones working on your teeth. The hygienist situation added to our frustration. The staff felt inexperienced and inconsistent -- one visit we'd be told everything looked great, and the next, a different hygienist would tell us our teeth were in imminent danger of falling out. That kind of fear-mongering, with no consistency between visits, eroded our trust completely. The one bright spot was Angelica, who was calm, competent and took the time to explain what she was doing. After some time, my family switched to another practice in town and have finally felt like we're having a normal dental experience.

Dr Garn is phenomenal at what he does! He made me feel at ease and explained to me exactly how the procedure would go. I didn't feel uncomfortable and I didn't feel any pain during the extraction. I would give a hundred stars to these three people that I encountered at this dental office because this kind of service should go down in history!
