While this was just a simple battery replacement, it was pretty obvious that he's a skilled craftsman. I would feel comfortable bringing jewelry and watches to him for repair as well. Horrible service on three counts:…read more 1) Without my permission, he replaced the seconds hand on my watch . He was suppose to just swap out the old mechanical movement and order/install a new movement. That's it. But when I picked it up, he informed me he ran into a problem of the original seconds hand not fitting onto the new movement. So he installed a different-looking seconds hand that he had sitting in his spare parts bin. That wasn't cool. 2) He was suppose to locate my original seconds hand and return it to me. He never did this. 3) He was suppose to locate my original date wheel and return it to me (because the new date wheel is of really bad quality). He never did this. My impression of him is that he's extremely absent minded. In both of my follow-up visits he forgot who I was and what was previously discussed. He never telephoned me like he said he would. That was just lip service. It's a good thing my watch was a bargain brand Swiss watch. It wasn't very expensive. God help anyone who brings a higher priced watch to him for repair.

There was a man ahead of me who appeared to be a reseller; he had a lot to discuss and kindly let me go ahead. The owner struggled with my watch and finally resorted to using a hammer (!) commenting that the watch appeared new. As he worked I looked around the shop which is a trove of old watches, clocks and memorabilia for sale. He mentioned that he was always looking to buy pieces and collectibles, especially sports related. He put my watch back together, set it and charged a reasonable fee. The watch is older and has been stopping occasionally so I will probably go back and ask him to overhaul it for me. Watch and clock repair people are scarce these days and from his tool bench and the way he handled my watch I could tell he knows what he's doing.
