I have found a few things on there menus I didn't care for the fried pickles are no good they cut them long ways and they are soggy and when u take a bite the limp pickle falls out lol and their aju sandwich didn't really care for. There should be a spot like this in everyone's hometown. We were in town for a lacrosse game and stopped by for lunch. It was a beautiful day and we were able to sit outside. The three adults had burgers and fries and the kids had hot dogs. I had the deluxe burger and loved it! It wasn't exceptional gourmet, it was just good; crisp lettuce, hot burger, crunchy pickles. My husband had the beef/pork burger and raved about it. My kids loved the hot dogs and the toasted buns they came on and are not demanding that as the new standard. We got the curly fries and I was a little bummed, they were all clumped together as one big mass, making it all pretty soggy. I liked my kids crinkle fries better! read more

Hal's is a great place. It's been there forever. 1960's forever. And every time I have gone it has been good. Shakes are big. Fries and hot and you get a lot with an order. Burgers are good, and they have some interesting burger ideas. I love the classic diner look. For anybody who has seen any of my other reviews most of the burger places I go to get a comment about whether it looks like a classic diner or not. This place is popular and it should be. Been a staple in S-W and hopefully it stays around. Employees have always been nice. It could use a bit of a facelift but hey, it's a classic burger joint. So maybe that's part of the fun. Really, Yelpers? One Hal of a disappointment. Either this town is in desperate need of decent burgers, so there is no basis of comparison, or the employees wrote most of the reviews for this drive-in. More things in this restaurant come out of a bag than a street vagrant's possessions. Store-bought, wafer-thin "hamburger" patties (I didn't taste any meat under the mayo mound); paper-thin, death-by-mandolin tomato slices embedded in and smothered by said mayo; a paper bag of previously frozen, fresh from the store Ore-Ida crinkle fries; and a tiny tub of jartar sauce (tartar from a jar). My EYES didn't even want to eat the food. There were two things (hence the two stars) about Hal's that I did like: Hal's gals and the thick fountain shakes. The counter girls were cute, bubbly, witty, and nice as could be. The shakes were very good; ice-creamy and chocolatey, albeit pretty small (kid's cup size). Overall, I've been more impressed with meals from drive-thrus for half the price. However, the girls and the atmosphere are both adorable. Perhaps the hot dogs, corn dogs and ice cream are better than the burgers. I don't know and I doubt I'll ever find out. Either a hit or miss. Sometimes my burger is perfect and onion rings nice and crispy, other times it seems like they just slopped it together real quick and I'll open it to find my top bun and toppings all slid off or find that the onion rings are soggy and undercooked. Well since we are already this far north we can do the 18 minute drive up to a place that evening magazine had suggested during their tulip festival tour a few weeks ago. Hal's drive in up in Sedro Woolley . Never mind Siri can't predict construction street closures . Fine at my age I still have good map skills. Anyway we finally arrive, if your in a Subaru you won't be high enough to read main burger menu that has slide down the filthy windows. We should have left. Asking window Twinkie questions gets us a paper menu printed on legal paper. Two side are blank last page printed on both sides. Environmentally they didn't even try to conserve a few trees. But if your here eat and review. Asked snarky chickie about onion rings, are the good? Blank look I ask again and she snaps "I like them " ok fine so the order is simple one chocolate shake, one order onion rings, One avocado burger with jalapeños and a sour grilled burger. Asking for extra napkins has irritated chickie number 2 . The tattoos are nice but the girls that have them are just not food service friendly. Not anyplace on the sign does it says Hal's rude chickies who are clueless. Now you'd think that the whole order can't all be bad right, nope wrong, all tragically crazy awful wrong. The shake is bad not the smooth frosty perfection that it should be, the chocolate smooch that the bottom of shake travels up the straw is just yuckie. The onion rings are over cooked almost burned , these are mostly a gross greasy wet heavy pancake batter the inside undercooked the outer edges greasy burned mess that even tartar sauce could not assist. The avocado burger spills out of the damp bun the wet sauce has magically mingled with yet more gross grease. The avocado clearly is out of some processed tub of grossness, making is barely worth testing. My sour dough grill had a mass of mayo that made the great grease burger squishy when accompanied by the tomato only half the bacon was cooked the other half raw made me have second thoughts about eating it at all. But it's 1:00pm and we are starving. At least I won't be craving a trip to sedro for this place. Stopped to buy salmon for dinner. At least I know it with be good ! So one star is all that Hal's drive in gets and only for the view of the giant tree from the back parking lot. read more

The service was absolutely horrible. They completely messed up our order. We saw all the workers talking when we were waiting for our food in the drive-thru. Tried to get their attention and no one helped us so they could correct our order. In addition, the wait time was 30-40 minutes. I wish Tacoma had a drive in spot as good as this place. Yeah, we have Frisko Freeze...but it doesn't compare to most burger shacks. The indoor seating would be nice, but it was a gorgeous day outside and we decided to sit out and watch the odd string of traffic go by. Definitely local flavor. Definitely fast food. A variety of inexpensive burgers, fries, shakes and yes malts are just 10 or 15 minutes away. The drive-thru is slow as molasses on a winter's day but cars still queue up in the street even when there's no line inside. Insanity observed. Three words. Disgusting and over priced. We got 2 "deluxe burgers" and they literally were worse than McDonalds. Soggy bun with about a gallon of mayo and the thinnest burger patty I ever did see. I couldn't even finish mine, I literally thought I was going to throw up. We got the crinkle fries, and I'm pretty sure they were your standard ore ida frozen fries. Meh at best. Now onto the shake. We asked for a concrete shake (like a Blizzard from DQ) and instead what we got was a soupy chocolate mess with huge chunks of Reese's at the bottom. All of that for a whopping $19!!! This place is great. Small town burger joint with a small town feel. Their hours are a little off and closed Sundays are a little bit of a drab but hen again Sunday's are for family. First time here. Passed it as we were driving through town, on our way home from camping. It is a really cute little place. I like the oldies diner theme, but it's not over the top cheesy. It was early on a Tuesday, around 11a, and there was only one other person dining in, but lots of drive-thru business while we were there. I ordered the Deluxe burger. I was told it comes with "goop" ...? I'm like what is goop? Should I know what goop is? Well, it's just mayo and relish. Goop is good. Anyway, the burger was just alright. Nothing to write home about. The patty was thin and pre-made looking. Fries were kind of like Ore Ida crinkle cut looking. Everything was okay and hit the spot. My husband got some kind of stuffed burger. It was two patties with blue cheese and some other cheese in the middle. It was also just okay. Anyway, great place. I think if I lived nearby I would come every now and again, but we live in Kirkland so probably won't be back anytime too soon. Again, cutest little drive-in diner :) Really nice staff. read more

Today was my third time coming here. It's basically a star above jack in the box. Every time I've come here I've been unimpressed. Today I got the bbq beef sandwich and fried mushrooms.
