Found this gem on our way back from a whale watch in Bellingham, and the southern hospitality was evident despite our arrival as a party of 6 just 30 minutes before closure. The atmosphere and decor were simply outstanding, giving a small town southern vibe that's rare in WA. Loved the peanut barrel and the fact that they allowed us to self serve and throw the shells on the floor. The food was simply outstanding, whether it was brisket, hush puppies, mac n cheese, fried okra and other southern delicacies. Our server, Manny, was super accommodating and friendly despite our late arrival and he made us feel at home with casual conversation. I came here for breakfast as it was one of the few places to actually open at 7 am on Sunday. I cleared the border from canada early and actually got here 15 mins before 7 am. So I waited in the parking lot and they did open on time. I was the first customer. I ordered at the counter and then got a table. Food would be brought over but it was self service for coffee at the counter. I loved the Western decor and layout, including the peanut shells on the ground. Very country indeed. The washroom was also one of the nicest and cutest I had seen. As it was so early and I usually skipped breakfast, I had a single biscuit and gravy (half order I think) and added brisket. It was so delicious! Brisket was tender and flavorful with crispy bits at the end. The single biscuit was just nice for me. I would want to try the lunch or dinner menu where the full on bbq food would be served. They also have frozen food to go so you can reheat at home. Friendly staff too. Recommended! read more

This may be the last place where you can still do this. I'm from the South and good BBQ can be difficult to find in the northwest but Double Barrel nailed it! Cute place. Stopped in after a weekend of camping in Mt Baker on our 2 hour drive home for some BBQ, was pleasantly surprised to see a breakfast menu. I ordered the breakfast burrito with brisket, my husband got the chicken and waffles. Both were excellent. Loved all the different BBQ sauces and condiment bar w/ pickles and pepperoncinis. Several years ago I said that they had too much cumin in the rib rub, and they seemed to have made it better! I went to the restaurant yesterday and got a chopped beef sandwich and a half rack of ribs, the ribs were juicy! But the rub upset my stomach? I'm not sure what changes they made to the rub? Double Barrel is modestly decent but I was not too impressed. It reminds me of the mediocre BBQ I found when I moved to the PNW 25 years ago from Texas - bland and just not getting the flavors quite right. I think BBQ has come a long way in Western Washington since then and there are many very good joints that get it, but unfortunately Double Barrel is not one of them. It does have reasonable prices and pleasant staff, they just need somebody from Austin to spend 6 months with teaching them how to make their BBQ taste better. read more

I'm surprised of the low rating of this place because this is really good! Not very many good bbq places in western Washington. I got the sliced brisket sandwich with a side of vegetables and Mac and cheese. The brisket was a good mix of a lean and fat. My husband got the double barrel which is an open faced sandwich with chopped brisket on one side, pulled pork on the other and comes with a rib. The mac and cheese is creamy!! They have a variety of bbq sauces, banana peppers and pickles that are self serve. The sandwiches do not come with sauce on them so you can choose which sauce and how much of it to put on them. There's also free salted peanuts you can eat. The owners and staff are very friendly! Can't wait to come back and try some more things. read more

I drive out of my way to stop at Double Barrel. The ambiance is so authentic. Peanuts on the floor, barrels for tables. On my last visit after a weekend of camping, I was keeping my fingers crossed for breakfast/brunch menu on a Sunday and my wish was granted! Sumptuous biscuits and gravy. Massive breakfast burritos. Brisket skillets. And boozy drinks to accompany. The biggest challenge is ordering at the register. Not a huge fan of this...but I get being short-handed on service. They do have servers bringing out the food, but no one comes back to remove plates, refill drinks or ask you how things are. I think these guys would get a full five stars if they offered better service. Nonetheless, I'll be back for that BBQ! read more

The first time I ever had Double Barrel was at a wedding - yes, they cater weddings! I was instantly transported back to my favorite joint in TX - no it's not *quite* the same, but it's the closest you'll find outside of the Lone Star state. The second time I had DBBBQ, It was on my own on location. And it was deeeeeeelish. The place is adorable and decked out in TX garb, Maggie the BBQ dog is the sweetest, and they are laid back, kind, and accommodating. They have an awesome heated patio, there are many options for people who don't want traditional BBQ fare (there are killer salads). There aren't TONS of beers on tap, but everything they have goes great with the TX style meats and sauces. Service is prompt and they go as fast as possible, but when we went the takeout was off the counter....yes, they do takeout! It's by far the BEST BBQ I've had in WA. The fried chicken salad, the brisket, the pulled pork, the grilled cheese....go with friends, get it all. It's worth it. read more
