Came to my house in San Jose from Hillsborough and he swapped out my burnt inverter with a new inverter from Solar Edge. Richard called Solar Edge to make sure they could see the inverter and my back up battery pack. Richard did an incredible job uninstalling and reinstalling our solar panels during our re-roofing project! This job required Richard to come out three times: first to get the panels removed, then to install all new stanchion mounts after the old roof was demo-ed, then a third time to reinstall the panels and wire everything back up, once the roof was done. Richard did all of that at a very fair price, and was great about coordinating with the roofing company on the timing of the three phases. After he got the panels reinstalled, he thoroughly checked the system performance, discovered an issue, and worked directly with the panel manufacturer to get a faulty part replaced. There was no additional cost to us for any of that. I was really impressed by how fast he was able to get the work done, especially considering he did it all himself! We hired Richard to do a remove and reinstall on our solar system while we were having our roof replaced. We also had him add shields around the panels to keep leaves from getting underneath. The work was done beautifully. The system looks better now than when it first was installed. While removing the panels Richard also noticed that one of them was cracked. He worked with us to collect the info we needed to put in a claim with our original installer. I needed someone to remove and reinstall my PV panels as I was reroofing, and the original installer was no longer in business. We have two separate solar systems on our house and Rich has worked on both of them. The first system was installed in 2005 and the industry standard for attaching the panels to the roof was not as good as it is now. We had a leak and Rich came in and replaced all the roof attachments and flashing with the state of the art and fixed the leak. Then the inverter on the first system reached the end of its life and failed. Rich replaced it with an new inverter. On the second system, we needed to demo a roof deck to fix a portion of our roof. Rich came and removed the panels and conduit that were in the way and just finished putting it back together after the new section of the roof and new deck were installed. He was very flexible in doing this around the schedules of the roofers and the deck installers. I highly recommend Rich for any type of solar job or repair. He has worked in the solar industry for about as long as the solar industry has been around and really knows what he is doing. read more

Rich Halvorsen installed our solar system in October of 2017. We could not have asked for a better contractor to do this work. He was timely, quiet, clean, and completely professional in his dealings with us, from our initial meeting to his completion of the installation. Our solar panels and the connecting system are beautifully designed and perfectly installed. He completed his installation in just five days, even though we have a high-pitched roof with concrete shakes. We have used Halvorsen Solar extensively over the past 3-4 years to keep our 12 year old solar PV system running. About 3 years ago, one of our Sunny Boy 2500 inverters went out. Our original installer had since gone out of business. After much research I found Halvorsen Solar Service, and Richard had a used inverter from a previous job and successfully replaced our unit. When our second old inverter went out a year or so later, we opted to have Richard install a new Sunny Boy 7.7 inverter. Last Fall he added additional, more efficient panels to our array including the mounting hardware and wiring. A month ago we had an arc fault error message and Richard came out and quickly identified the problem - a split in the metal conduit placed by the original installer 12 years ago that allowed water to enter and short out an electrical connection. He also ran cat 5 cable from the inverter to our router (going under the house in the crawl space) which now allows us to get a daily report from the Sunny Portal detailing the system production and performance. Prior to this, I would have to go to the side of the house to periodically check to make sure the inverters were still working. Sometimes it could be months between checks - now if there is a system failure, I am alerted right away. Richard is a pleasure to work with and I can recommend him highly.
