My summer heart has begun and is happy! I look forward to Ham Orchard every summer season it screams summer and they have the best soft sever there! You have to get it in a cup in a swirl which is a Homemade Strawberry and Homemade Peach ice cream swirled together to perfection! You can thank me later after trying it! When I first discover this place I was amazed to find a hidden gem like this! Even the train stops here to get some ice cream before going to there next destination! They have a variety of breads and pies and fresh produce! It does get a little pricey I'm not gonna lie, once you head inside you'll are want to buy everything! Regardless of what you think about the place or the lack of ability to pick your own peaches, Ham's peaches must be infused with crack. It is the only way they can actually be THAT good! I wasn't even really a fan of peaches that weren't in cobbler until this summer. I probably averaged eating two a day all summer. I chose to go here on my birthday and was instructed to bring home a bag of peaches for everyone and their brother. (Well actually just 7 bags = 100+ peaches). Their peach frozen yogurt is fresh and refreshing and my best friend is in love with their box mix for saltine crackers. Trekking out to Ham's makes for a good adventure and tastily rewarding. This is some seriously amazing stuff. Beats ice cream full of preservatives and artificial ingredients. Their burgers and hot dogs looked good too but didn't get a chance to try them. This place is famous btw. They have a nifty gift shop with all sorts of goods as well. Also, if you're a minority you WILL get stared at. Went to Ham's recently on a Saturday with my boyfriend and we loved it. It's about 40 minutes out of Dallas and right off a railroad track. They were very busy which we expected for a Saturday. We hit up the shop first which was the most crowded part. The shop is small but offered fresh peaches, vegetables and other fruit, jarred jams, jellies, preserves, sauces, honey, and more. There's a cold section with ready to bake casseroles, dips, pemento cheese and other stuff. You could also buy their ice cream to take home. We purchased are items then headed to try the BBQ next door. We both got the peach pulled pork combo meal with potato salad and a drink. The peach pulled pork was delicious, bread soft and fresh and it was very filling. The potato salad is more on the mustard side which I personally liked. My favorite part though, was the sweet peach tea! I could drink that all day. After we enjoyed our meal and some live Christian/country music we went back to the shop for ice cream. The line is long but they move fast. We both got the peach and strawberry swirl (you get more ice cream if you get a cup than a cone) and it was so yummy! Just try and stay indoors if you can because it melted so fast outdoors. The items we took home to try were peaches, tomatoes, blackberries, peach grilling glaze, dip mix, peach dressing and pecan praline butter. All good so far but I was especially impressed with their produce. Overall really liked the place and want to come back next year when the blackberry patch is open! read more

We visited for the first time today and it lived up to its' reputation. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent, as well as the chopped beef bbq sandwich (they even toast the buns!). The potato salad was perfect. They had a few choices of teas to drink including peach and watermelon tea. Yum! The condiments even included peach pickles. After we had lunch, we went into the shop to browse around. What a great selection of fruits, jams, jellies, foods and so much more. We finished off our visit with peach ice cream!! We were there last weekend. Took a little over an hour to get there and that was fine. The pulled pork sandwiches were very good. We had a good place under the covered picnic area to sit with a breeze so was very comfortable. The store was very busy. We bought a large bag of peaches for $12. They were a lot smaller than expected and have found several so bruised up that can't eat them. No, we did not buy the seconds they had offered for sale for a cheaper price. We did get a small package of the chocolate fudge. Delicious! We bought some tomatoes and though expensive they are home grown tomatoes so have enjoyed them very much. It's a nice place to visit once but thought we would get big peaches in near perfect shape. read more

A great quick trip for the whole family. I went during peach season and was blown away by not only the fresh peaches but also the variety of other foods (jellies, breads, pie, etc.) The store was crowded (Saturday afternoon) but they have many employees and lines go pretty quick. Worst experience ever when finding out the peaches I bought weren't even from ham's trees, that they bought them from a another place because theirs had worms!!!! after that when I bought cookies which they said "there homemade" more like frozen cookie dough when I saw the bakers had boxes of them. Pretty cool place to visit. Long lines, but really moved along pretty good. I had a rib sandwich and my wife had a peach pulled pork sandwich, both very tasty. The best was the peach ice cream. first visit, the peach soft serve was a disappointment, no discernible peach flavor, obvious artificial color.no visible peach at all. and 2 cups for over 9 bucks? but the real issue I noticed, employees behind ice cream counter preparing fudge and other items on counter behind cash register, cashier also handling money and serving cones , all in the same airspace with the rest of store and customers with no hairnets, nor gloves. seemed very unsanitary. ice cream was dumped due to lack of taste, and the wife and I will not be revisiting. read more

We went to Ham Orchards yesterday after hearing about the great bbq and peach ice cream. My husband got the brisket sandwich with a side of coleslaw and I got the chicken salad with a side of potato salad. The brisket was tough and my husband said it was incredibly disappointing. My chicken sandwich was all right, not very good, but definitely edible. The potato salad was about the same. Undaunted, we went into the store and purchased some praline pecans, peaches, a frozen cobbler, and two peach flavor ice cream cones. The cones were refreshing but really tasted like vanilla ice cream that had a peach color dye in it. I expected that it would have a wonderful peach flavor but that was not so. The peaches we bought look beautiful. They're not ripe yet but we're hoping that they'll be flavorful. I also bought apple butter jelly and I will say, that it's very good. The employees at the Orchard are very very friendly. Food was tasty, we got the pulled pork sandwiches but the potato salad was fair at best. The fixings area was laid out nicely and the barbecue sauce was tasty, but the toppings were limited. If you like pickles or onion you will be just fine. The store was very well stocked. If you are looking for some back road Texas flare the store had lots of different preserves, pies, and of course, plenty of peaches. The biggest problem our family had as well as others we could hear mumbling were the prices. From $16.00 pies and $11.00 pork sandwiches with a modest sized side, like cole slaw or potato salad we think it would be difficult to ever go back. Again, if you are looking for a fun back road experience for a lunch this would be fine but be prepared for sticker shock. read more

I went to buy some peaches because a co-worker had brought some (last year) and they were outstanding. We arrived Saturday around noon and the place was a zoo. There is a nice little store with fresh peaches, vegetables, canned goods and bakery goods. It's all relatively pricey. I bought two small sacks of peaches ($12 each) which seem very expensive. I haven't tried them yet as they were hard when I purchased them. Two days later some of them are starting to soften but many of them have "bad" spots on them as if they were bruised. We tried the peach soft serve ice cream while we were there. It's pricey too - $3 per cone. It was cold and sweet but lacking in peach flavor so we were disappointed. read more

Fun place run by decent folks. Lots of tasty items to choose from. The white flesh peaches here can be some of the best you'll ever have. Oh, and don't miss taking home a frozen peach cobbler, as the flavors in it are excellent. The bbq is fair to good. The fried pies are just okay, so save your money for something else, such as the baked coconut pie. About the peach and strawberry soft serve ice creams, they certainly sell a lot of it. We've tried it several times over the past few years -- it has a wonderful texture, but surprisingly, almost no fruit flavor. Love the selection of items but bagged premium peaches are often not ripe and some dry out before ripening at home. Best experience has been with buying bruised & overripes. Hours are very limited if you work days 8-6 and Saturdays are so hugely packed that you cant easily get in and out.
