Don't let the building fool you, seriously good food inside. I like the crinkle cut french fries, super crisp, but they do come unsalted so you have to self-salt them. I got the kimchi burger with egg. Everything about it was super solid. Good flavor on the burger, and on the kimchi. The onions were done perfectly so they were still a little crunchy. The egg was cooked a bit much for my tastes, so next time I will order a runny yolk. For sure will be back. read more

This is a great spot. The owner was preparing To close when we arrived and gladly kept the grill open for us. We are sure glad he did; burgers were decent size patties, jalapeños had plenty of zing and meals come with fries and a soda. This place has really fallen off in the past year. It used to be really good tasting fast food, moderately priced. The service is still good, however the last 2 times I've gone the food has been awful and gross. First, I got spoiled fries (yuck). The potatoes were actually sour. I thought to give them 1 more chance because it's been so tasty in the past, so I went back again. I ordered the fish sandwich and got a piece of old, dried, hard, burnt, inedible something in my sandwich that may have been fish at one time. I assumed because Hamburger Haven has stood on Muldoon for an eternity, it had something special, but it turns out it may just be bought and paid for because it seemed like no one cared whether we liked the food. Burgers seemed like they had been precooked then reheated in a microwave. Additionally we ordered the Mongolian beef and sesame chicken on a hunch and both were absolute garbage, again as if frozen meat had been hastily thrown in a wok and boiled. So after a fairly long Friday with little sleep the night before, I woke up from a long nap and looked up where I could get a decent meal. I was in the mood for a steak but then thought, meh, I'll order a pizza. And then I thought, meh, I'd better get out while it's still nice weather out. This is a very curious combination... In Alaska, and a meal for under $10... Hell, even under $20. I'm not sure another price range like that exists in Anchorage. Joking aside, this place is cheap. I haven't tried their Philly cheesesteak or their Chinese menu yet. I kid you not, there's a menu for Chinese food. Curious combination. But there is a daily special. $6.50 for a burger, fries and drink. My first burger here was a supreme burger, i think that's what it was called. i don't remember, it was the friday daily special. Spicy, bacon, fresh ingredients. It's a small place and was made to order. Sure I wouldn't have minded eating in there but there are exactly 5 seats. 2 are for waiting in line. 2 were occupied. One was in front of the TV. But I was given the bag. Oh well. So home I went. I'll say, this isn't the best burger I've ever had, and maybe a craving had something to do with it, but it was pretty damn good. The meat was a little on the well-done side but still juicy. The bacon was just awesome. I mean it's bacon, you can't go wrong unless it's undercooked. It was all fresh and made to order. And it was cheap. Oh so very cheap. I'll definitely be back. read more

I was searching around for dinner and desperately being in the mood for a burger, I just had to check this place out. It is tiny, no real dining area to speak of, just a counter to order at and I believe a drive though....maybe. When we first walked in there was no one around, so I took a moment to check out the menu and wow I was surprised. There was Chinese food on the menu next to the burgers! A great selection of burgers, sides and Chinese food....lol. When the lady came out, she was very pleasant and gave us some great suggestions on what to get. My wife and I both had double cheeseburgers, I had onion rings and my wife had calamari rings!?! The food was AWESOME! The burgers were juicy and flavorful, everything else was fresh and hot. Appearances are very deceiving with this place. Not the prettiest joint in town, but if you're looking for cheap, and delicious, food, this is it. I've driven past this place hundreds of times and always wondered if the burgers were any good. Finally a friend (born and raised in Alaska 52 years) said he used to eat there in the early 80's and the same guy runs it. Said burgers are old school grilled on a flat top and made fresh. I ate here a couple of times until i got completly grossed out. The first time, I ordered a burger and fries. Nothing fancy but better than McDonalds. The second time, the meat had a funny smell. I went back a third time because the owners are hard working honest people and figured to give it another shot. I ordered and left around the back. As we drove off, i saw a woman washing a bowl of lettuce outside at the back of the restaurant, she put a piece into her mouth to eat it and threw the rest into another bowl with the washed lettuce. My husband and I just ordered from here for delivery. It was surprisingly cheap (about $23 for 2 burgers, 2 large curly fries and large chili fries w/meatballs) and it took about 30 minuets to get here (which I believe is about average). When the food did arrive it wasn't hot, but still warm. We dove in the chili fries first, they were good. The meatballs were kinda odd, I thought, but they were there mostly for my husbands benefit. It had a lot of cheese and enough chili for a little more than taste, but not too much to make it really soup-y. I ordered a bacon cheese burger, and it was ok. It was lukewarm and a bit dry, but it was our first time ordering burgers for delivery, so I'm not too sure what to expect. My husband had ordered the mushroom burger, and he really enjoyed it. He did note that they did not sauté the mushrooms, and that they may have been from a can. The curly fries are just that, your average curly fry. Yummy burgers. They have a special each day of the week of a different burger, fries, and a drink for $6.50. You can't beat that price. The crinkle cut fries obviously came from Costco or some where and were soggy but hey they're fries, just through some ketchup on 'em. I got an Alaska burger that had lettuce, cheese, pickle, onion, mushroom, ham, and jalapeño. It has great flavor. My boyfriend got the double bacon egg and cheese burger which was like breakfast on a bun. So delicious. I also got a side order of fried oysters. I won't be getting those again. They weren't very hot. They were soggy and dry. I look forward to the crunch and burning hot juice when I eat fried oysters. My boyfriend got chili cheese fries. They had meat balls in it which I thought was strange but good nonetheless. It had shredded cheese on top instead of cheese sauce which made them difficult to eat and filled our stomachs too quickly. They also serve Chinese food ( the owners are Asian ) but I'll stick to my favorite Chinese joint for that. As for the restaurant itself, it has been around since the 70's, or so they say on the menu. And it doesn't look like it's gotten any kind of remodel since it was built. Very old. Clean though. All orders are to go so there are no tables. They sell phone cards and candy too which makes me think they don't get much business and are trying anything to make more money. This place has been here for years. I first tried it when I came up in the military in 1976 and when I returned with my family in 1983, they were still the best and they remain that way today. Their mushroom burger is great - the fries hot and tasty - their special burgers are outstanding! My wife isn't into fries so much but she loves their deep fried okra and zuccinni.
