As per usual, I told my server that I really wanted crispy HOT fries, or I would ask them to be redone. I do this so they know ahead of time that I am not being picky, just asking for what I am willing to pay for. I usually LOVE the rosemary garlic fries, but mine arrived soggy and barely warm. The server was quick to offer to correct this and returned with a plate of perfectly crisp hot fries! My grandson ordered a kids' salad and the kids' salmon and rice! This was the best buy of the day, as the salmon fillet appeared to be between two and three ounces of beautifully grilled salmon, with a generous portion of coconut rice. The salad was a garden salad with tomatoes, lettuce, and carrots, nicely dressed in ranch dressing. He also ordered the children's dessert of Mini Mousse, which is a good-sized chocolate mousse that he LOVED! Grandma had a couple of nibbles too! A family-friendly spot in Anchorage that we stopped by for lunch. The food here is good. The menu is huge and has a mix of breakfast and lunch items. They also show movies which is a pretty cool concept! I enjoyed the pepperoni pizza (thin crust style, $4.25 a slice), the kale caesar, and chips and salsa a lot. The fries are also marvelous. I had the Salmon Benny ($24) - it was fine, and the hollandaise is a bit too tart for my taste. It was brought out after everything else which was sort of sad - I ended up getting full off of the sympathy bites everyone was giving me and barely touched it, lol. I've come to Bear Tooth Grill twice for a movie night - they're actually a theater in addition to grill, so there's always a rare or popular screening going on! It really brings the community together and is nestled in the heart of the artistic Spenard neighborhood of Anchorage. Service is friendly, as quick as can possibly be, and efficient. Food isn't too bad either, they have a lot of different kinds of pizzas, wraps, and salads, but no option for wings or tenders when you're in the theater portion of the establishment. I recommend coming here and supporting a local business. I ordered takeout. I was at the end of a two day conference so I just wanted good food in bed and this did not disappoint. Their menu is extensive so I had a hard time choosing but my choice was delicious. It was fairly quick and the staff were great. I had the blacked chicken tacos and at first I thought it looked flavorless but it was not! I was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely go back to try something different. One of my favorite breakfast spots. They're connected to the theatre but they have their own entrance. The grill consistently has rotating special menu options and drinks. This visit I tried their Zacatecas sope and we got their last order of lemon blueberry pancakes. Yummm! Beartooth grill has a new patio that we thought wasn't open, but our hostess wasn't aware that customers could order takeout and eat there even if there wasn't a server assigned. Darn, next time. It has a beautiful mural and a sweet firepit. It was annoying that I asked for bacon with my Bloody Mary and was told it wasn't readily available but when I ordered food I was pushed to order a side of protein at which point I blurted "bacon!" Their house margarita is pretty good. Strong and has a nice flavor to it. They actually have quite a selection of margaritas of different flavors and tequilas. Last time I came for lunch I got the fish and chips which I didn't care for. The batter was off, very off. Today I got the chipotle blt. It was good, had great buttery sourdough, almost too much lettuce, only two pieces of bacon per piece but it was good. The chipotle mayo wasn't spicy at all and had a little more flavor then just regular mayo. Cilantro fries were really good, very crispy. Had a bite of the bahn mi burger and that was a complete miss. Was pretty spicy for me, but I might have just ate a whole Jalapeño in my one bite cause that's my luck on spicy since I do not like spicy. I've come to realize what entrees I pick are really hit or miss, but I would get the tacos or the BLT again. read more

The Bear Tooth Grill staff horribly missed the mark on customer service today and to make matters worse, we're unapologetic and "cold" when offered gentle feedback. It did not feel like a place that relayed, "We appreciate and want your business!" I came in with my family around 11:30 today and there wasn't a hostess at the stand. That's fine, so we were patient. We waited for five minutes and watched five (5) members of the staff all of: make eye contact with us, not greet us, or even acknowledge that we were waiting for service. A gentle, "hey, we'll be right with you" wasn't even offered. We finally gave up and started walking out the door, which is when two of the young ladies who passed by us (both young/brown hair) then positioned themselves behind the hostess stand and started socializing. It was like they waited for us to leave so they wouldn't have to seat us. As I was leaving, I provided both of these young employees with some gentle feedback on acknowledging your patrons when they are waiting, to which both didn't receive well. No yelling, no anger....just feedback. One finally told me to leave and have a nice day. No apology and no attempt to make this right. I wasn't angry, didn't raise my voice, and would have allowed the staff the chance to fix this. We recognize that businesses make mistakes and don't always hit the target, but this is an indication of a culture or employee attitude problem. At least today, Bear Tooth Grill did not value customer service or make any attempt to keep us there. Lastly, because we weren't valued, acknowledged or heard, we likely won't be back. It is what it is, but I hope they make an adjustment in this area. read more

I consistently have trouble getting seated here. They always tell me there will be a wait, despite there being several empty tables. They sit people who arrived after me before I get sat. Seating hostess' are impolite. The wait always ends up being double to triple what the time I was told. The service, excluding the seating hostess', is usually really good! The waiters know the menu well and make solid recommendations. The food is always good. Just wish the women working the front would practice kindness. read more

I always receive great service and solid food at Bear Tooth. My most recent visit is what prompted me to leave a review. Our waiter, Dalton, suggested the California Dream bowl and it was phenomenal. We really liked this place and ate here twice on our vacation. The food comes in very large portions and it is very good. They have lots of choices healthy and not on the menu. I loved it because I was able to get veggies and fantastic salads. Each time we had no room for dessert because the meal portions were huge. The first time we went it was incrediblely hot inside and we tried to sit outside but they were packed. The service was pretty good. The second visit the service was horrible. Our server was nice and good but the kitchen was way behind. We sat for 1 hour waiting for our food. We finally flagged down our server and asked where our food was. He came back with complimentary chips and salsa (both home made and very good) and apologized and said our food should be out soon. It took another 20 minutes to get our food. Again, food was great! The food was amazing! The environment was amazing! However, it was our server Charlie, who made the visit something spectacular! Charlie knew exactly how to manage a family which includes a toddler. He put in the orders on both sides of the house so that we could eat at the same time. He made the littlest one, and the oldest one, laugh. Yep, Charlie is an asset to any place, but to an excellent place like this, the overall experience is effin' awesome to the 10th degree. read more

Why have I not written a review here?!? I've sat on their patio on warm fall evenings as the sun set, inside at a socially distanced booth, and even at the bar, pre-covid. And they've all been a great experience. Excellent beer, creative menu, solid service. I appreciate that they'll bring the mild salsa from the theater side to go with the chips and salsa. They have hooks by their booths to hang your jacket on. It's easy to miss, but don't go scrunching your jacket into your booth if you don't want to. ANNNDDD..the service. Friendly, but not fake. Nor are they overbearing. ANNNNDDD... the margaritas have a skinny substitute. AAANNNNNDD... so many unique food items. Even after five visits, there is still so much I want to try. And in the present, it's hard to choose. Hot and fresh chips, delightful bowls of tasty shrimp or Korean beef. I can't wait to try the AK Calamari. And burgers. With Gouda. Or bacon. Travis is the best server ever, hands down. What a sweetheart. We had a really nice dinner here. My husband got a bbq burger with awesome fries. I got a really good Korean steak bowl. Corona update (3/20/20): Like their sibling restaurant (and other toof) Moose's Tooth(MT), Bear Tooth Grill (BT) is positively DIALED when it comes to getting creative and re-organized around the virus. Orders are fast and efficient, as are the instructions for how to receive your order. Like MT, BT has converted unused booths into food "stations" where they grab your food from. Like MT, they are also SERIOUS about sanitation. No more than a few people inside at a time, and every single pen is individually sterilized. The only downside of this is that they aren't giving out plastic cutlery (not Canadian, just don't feel right about calling a plastic fork "silverware"), as they haven't figured out an efficient sanitation strategy yet. While shopping in Anchorage, I asked the two ladies who ran one of the shops for recommendations for a good local restaurant. We wanted to eat delicious food that locals eat and not in a tourist trap. So glad that I did. The one lady led us to Beartooth which we all loved because it was delicious. My cousin loved his eggs Benedict. He said the eggs were cooked to perfection and it was ooey gooey goodness. I really liked my Arctic Apple Ale and my Korean Bowl. The steak was so tender and delicious. My mom also really loved her shrimp bowl. Unfortunately, my husband and cousin said the burgers were extremely underwhelming. If we ever come back to Anchorage, we would definitely come back here again. Really great recommendation. read more

This place is good, nothing spectacular. I think it was overly hyped up to me so I was expecting something amazing. It's a nice casual eater with a fairly creative menu. I prefer the food here to their sister restaurant, Moose's Tooth, and the wait times are a lot more manageable! I'm also interested in checking out their theater pub, which is a cool consent and very unique for Anchorage to have! Best Tooth has a great selection of Broken Tooth beers, and a nice craft cocktail list though most of their selection is tequila based. I really enjoy broken Tooth beers, and like that there is another location besides Moose's Tooth to indulge in them. Their food menu is strongly Tex mex influence, but is fairly creative. They have a monthly "fresh sheet" of rotating specials, which I appreciate. The fresh sheet usually features seasonal local ingredients. When we dined here the fresh sheet had a really delicious salmon cake appetizer, which was the highlight of our meal. We also had an order of onion rings, which were a huge portion and very crispy. For entrees my husband and I both ordered burgers. I had the bahn mi burger. It was way over cooked. I understand their is pork in the patty, but the meat was dry and very unenjoyable. If it wasn't for the toppings it would've fallen way flat. My husband orders the smoked Gouda burger, and his was cooked way better even though the patty also had pork in it. Both burgers were good, but nothing spectacular. I hate overcooked red meat, and really like restaurants that allow you to select your burger temp, but understand why some places don't. The garlic cilantro fries were very good, and cooked crispy. Service was good, and good came out in a timely manner! The place seems huge from the outside, but it really doesn't have many seating options when you consider that the building is shared with the theater pub. I will definitely be back, but maybe next time I'll stick to the fresh sheet or try something that's not a burger.
