The Hall houses the mayor's office, town planning, fire department admin and Boone County Senior Services. The building is modern and spacious inside. Conference rooms of all sizes can be reserved for resident meetings. I have reserved the largest conference room for a Non-Profit that I belong. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. The restrooms are large and clean. There is a nice patio area with flowers and a Thin Man statue on the east side of the facility. There is plenty of parking in their dedicated lot. The facility is fully accessible included close handicapped spaces. The Town Hall is used for several community activities including area foot races.

Along the way, you'll find little…read moregems like the Bona Thompson Memorial Center that serves as the home for the Irvington Historical Society and its art collection and historical documents. Not everyone knows that Butler University was originally located in Irvington. This building is one of only a couple buildings of the original campus that continues to exist. It was designed by Henry Dupont and Jesse T. Johnson and constructed in 1903. This building used to be the library, while what is now the Irvington United Methodist Church was the former university president's home. Stick with me. I'll review places and give you some history! The Bona Thompson Memorial Center now has a renovated gallery space and in addition to its regular collection includes a yearly juried exhibit and offers other exhibits. The Center also hosts weddings and receptions. The museum is open weekends from 1-4pm. Current special exhibits include one on Irvington businesses and one on Trees! Both are quite cool. As is true of nearly any building from the early 20th century, there are accessibility concerns here and because this is a historic building it is largely exempt from ADA requirements. You can get into the building, though! You can check out some of it on the Irvington Historical Society's website. As a little more history, Bona Thompson was a young woman who graduated from what was then Butler College in 1897 but then passed away from Typhoid Fever in 1899. In her honor, her family donated $40,000 to build the library. The library is built from Bedford limestone and was built by the still in existence Jungclaus Construction (builders of Murat Temple, Indiana Repertory Theatre, and the Barnes-Thornburg building). This is a beautiful, historic building in a neighborhood known for its beauty and known for embracing its history. In this time of social distancing and spending more time alone, it'd be a great little fun afternoon activity to go check it out.

It's a nice building, constructed in 1903 as the library on Butler university campus. On this day the space was full of historical exhibits and crafters selling there wares. Soap makers, candle makers and local shirts were just some of the vendors. A band was playing on the terrace looking over the first floor activities. What a wonderful experience we had checking out everything Irvington had going on back in its prime. International Harvester was a big employer and the basement exhibit showcases products that were made there. Another slightly bizarre exhibit worthy of a visit, also in the basement, are the angels of West Baden. In the early 1900's the hotel of west Baden springs, near French Lick, was given a freshen up and new tiles were laid by Italian artisans who may have snuck into a maintenance room high above the lobby at night. This room is very inaccessible, but in the 1990's during another freshening up of the complex, workers found Angels painted in the concealed room high above the lobby floor. The place is beautiful! And if that wasn't enough, the Fishers Art Council organizes a monthly art exhibit to fill the walls of the first and second floor lobbies. My friend and I wandered around the lobbies checking out this month's art work: a local artist had gone to Mexico to cover the Day of the Dead festivals. The artist had photographs, paintings, and drawings of what she saw and experienced. The facility was easy to get around with a grand staircase as well as elevators. The Kile Oak Tree is an Irvington destination spot that easily falls within the category of "local…read moreflavor." Considered one of the oldest trees in Indiana, this Bur Oak Tree is nearly 400 years old - this makes it older than the United States and, of course, older than the actual state of Indiana. The Irvington Garden Club assists in maintaining the Kile Oak Tree. The lot and tree are protected by the Irvington Landmarks Foundation and have been declared a natural habitat. For those who like geoaching, there's also a geocache within this vicinity. Height is an estimated 87', though I've also seen it documented at 92-feet. The crown spread is 123'. The tree is named for Rev. Oliver Kile. Rev. Kile was the first to build a home on this spot and the tree served as a backdrop for his funeral in 1924. The Kile family actually stayed in the area until 1973. Rev. Kile fought for the Union during the Civil War and was noted for his involvement in the temperance movement. His daughter, Mae, was especially known for her efforts to preserve the tree. As a fun note, Mae worked as a secretary to Eli Lilly (grandson of the founder). For years (starting in 1928), she kept a log book of visitors that is now owned by the Irvington Historical Society. As our beloved Yelper Ken N. notes, there are picnic tables around here but this is not a recreational area. Neighbors are happy to have people come and visit the tree, but this is a residential area so respect for the tree and the neighborhood is expected. Mae Kile eventually moved to California when her health got bad. However, even from there she worked to ensure the tree's preservation. She never could get the city to acquire it, so she essentially left it tot he Irvington Historical Society expressly for its preservation. While Irvington has its fair share of destination spots, a journey through the neighborhood isn't complete without stopping at The Kile Oak. Parking is residential and this is a grassy area. It's not particularly wheelchair friendly, though the hardest part tends to be finding it. Once I found it, I didn't have much trouble getting to it.

So, being a Yelper with determination, I asked my wife if she minded stopping by this spot so I could check out this magnificent tree and mini park that has become certified as a wildlife habitat! Located just a short distance west of Arlington, south of Washington Street, I was easily able to spot the park because there was a cluster of large trees (or maybe it was that this one is so big that it looked like a forest! Ha!) There is a small streetside parking area at the entrance. There are numerous plaques and an information kiosk to tell you about the tree, the dimensions, the organizations that have preserved the tree and maintain the park. The park is certified as a wildlife habitat. Although there isn't a playground for kids, there are picnic tables for those who wish to enjoy the shade and scenery. Please carry out your trash since I don't believe they have a garbage can which might attract nuisance animals or disrupt the natural feeding of the creatures that live in the park. The tree is one of the largest in the state. It is a Bur Oak and was last estimated to be 87' tall with the crown of the limbs spreading 123'. The circumference of the trunk is 190" around so it would take multiple people to join hands to reach around the trunk! I was pleased to see the local societies have maintained the cleanliness of the park an that they set up a flowering garden which is not easy because of all the shade. There is even more information in the kiosk about the garden plantings. If you are on the east side and are looking for a spot to get away from all the traffic and clutter, just drive by here. Although it was a beautiful day, we had the park to ourselves while we were there. Review #3774

They have a calendar of events on their website or app and have great events/scheduled workshops. The mobile app experience is great. You can search their inventory and place items on hold if the item you want is checked out already. Don't forget to visit their art space highlighting local artists on the first floor.

I visit this location to vote, and, more rcently, to donate food items to their little, free food…read morepantry. I have voted at this location for several years, but this last election was a trial. I am a handicapped senior citizen with several health issues; and I had to stand in line for more than 2.5 hours before being able to cast my vote. There was no place to sit down. The line snaked through the building and finally there were 2 chairs near the front entrance - after I had been standing for more than 2 hours. I was in tears by the time I was able to cast my vote because of the physical pain I was suffering. While standing in line, I noticed some people were being given immediate access into the building to vote and I realized that if I had brought my cane, or appeared to be more physically distraught, I might not have had to stand so long outside. The obvious appearance of a physical impairment does not always indicate which people suffer from chronic medical issues. PLEASE, Warren Township Trustee employees/voting workers, etc., make it easier for people with medical and/or physical impairments to cast their votes. DO NOT be selective in your choice of whom to admit into the building ahead of others in line. If any person with a medical and/or physical problem needs easier access to enter the building to vote, put up a sign, or have a designated person available at all times to usher them inside.

Today I went down to the Warren Central Government Center. Why would I go there on a Sunday…read moreafternoon when they're only open Monday-Friday? I went because as a good American citizen and exercising my right as an American Citizen, I went done there to VOTE! There are some court hearings that take place in that building and there has been voting for many years. The building itself is very well kept and has been kept very clean every time I've been in it. Why do I vote? It's my right and I Need to vote so the people I want to speak for me have a little better chance to get in their positions. Get out and vote early. We know nothing will interfere with our voting because we're done. If you don't vote, don't complain about the people in government.voting is your chance to try to put the people in office that you believe will serve our people best. I'm proud to be an American

Other than the overall experience was without any responsibility. Was in good company as it seemed that others had found their way there in similarity. Would not go back if it was my choice but I do not know the future. Overall experience was ok but do not recommend. Staff even gave me my own room with my own shower at one point. Did get whored out to family and friends via phonecalls and video visits. That cost a lot of money. Was held up at gunpoint by people in mask and armor as well, they walked right in, whole crew of them. Cheapest hotel in Hamilton county, room is free, plus free snacks and one hot meal. All you have to do is something wrong.
