Husband and I had a terrific dinner at Hamley's. Our server, Nicole (I think that was her name), was very sweet and provided great service. The food was delicious--I had the top sirloin and hubby had the roast beef dinner. The meat was flavorful and juicy. We each had a margarita to drink, which was made with fresh lime juice and was very tasty. For dessert, Nicole recommended the house made peanut butter pie, which was so huge she brought a to-go container with the plate! It was silky smooth and fantastic. The overall experience was great--we loved the ornate interior and learning about the history of the Hamley name. We may go back tomorrow for lunch! read more

Visited here with co-workers while on a business trip. The service was a bit slow, but nice. When the food came all my co-workers got their burgers, but it took an extra 5-10 minutes for me to get my salad. My coworkers enjoyed their burgers. My salad was ok, a bit over dressed so the greens were overly greasy, plus a disappointing about of apple on the salad for an entree size. The pickle chips were great though! read more

We were in from out of town and it was one of the only places open. There were 4 of us and it said they closed in a little over an hour. We came in and the younger cute brunette behind the bar gave us attitude and said she was going to close early. Made us feel very unwelcome and I did not want to give my business to someone like that especially because I'm in the service industry. I'm a great tipper, she would have made $40 in 30 minutes. I'm posting this so Hamley's can be aware of how their employee affected their business. We were really looking forward to try their steak. We just ate here again for 2nd time Fri 12/30/22. Food was again great! We didn't order any steaks, like our 1st time, as they are pretty spendy. We had 4 burgers at our table, and mine, the Cowboy, was excellent! We also ordered 2 Loaded Cheeseburgers & 1 Cali Cowgirl. Probably the best burgers we have had anywhere.... much better than what we recently experienced at the Full Sail brew pub in Hood River!! Our only food complaint was about the bowl of chowder.... way overpriced for the size. One other factor that gives this place such a high rating is the decor.... exceptional, and in fantastic shape for how old this place is! It is definitely an experience just being in such a historic place. Tips for a great visit... start at their western shop next door (they close promptly @ 6pm, but check hours), and if you're on a budget, try sitting in the bar section which has an additional menu. read more

We were parked a block away, the wind was crazy so we called ahead to find out if they still had prime rib available. After a minute on hold I was told there was . We were inside with in 2 minutes and were left standing at the door for about 2 minutes. We were greeted by an aggravated woman complaining about the dining room being a mess and we better have reservations. I said we had just called and asked about the prime rib and no one said anything about reservations. She yelled you need to have a reservation, the resturant is a mess. The hype is the most exciting thing about this place. Our expensive steaks were dry & had little to no seasoning. The accompanying mash potatoes were basic, nothing unique. I had to ask for a side of bacon bits to spice em up! Green beans were unforgettable. Side ceasar salad was dry. No salt n pepper on the table (we had to stand up & walk into the server room to grab the shakers). The service was inattentive and the wait for our drinks & food were unbearably long. The service was very slow because they were so busy but they limited the menu on this weekend because of the Rodeo, so expected a little better. I love a good steak. My husband would snatch one from a child's hand. So we both have very high standards when it comes to the best of bovine. He had the 14oz ribeye. It was only about half as thick as it should be but it was cooked perfectly and delicious. I had an 8oz fillet that was also cooked perfectly and was tasty as well. Our group was very excited to eat at Hamleys this week while at the roundup, and boy did they disappoint! We go there early and sat in the bar. Waited until we could order dinner because we were all craving a good steak. We were given a menu and a "specialty menu" the specials looked great. So I tried to order one of them, there were out, so in ordered my second choice, nope they were out, how about my third choice........nope. How are you out of 3 of your specials on Tuesday before the rodeo even starts! So I ordered my 4th choice. All 3 of us ordered them medium rare. 2/3 came out well done. So we told the waitress that is not what we ordered. She checked, and sure enough we ordered medium rare. So then they asked us what we wanted to do. Well if I am going to pay $200 I want what I ordered. The waitresses were nice, but the kitchen staff was upset. I won't be go back there anytime soon, or ever. That was no $52 ribeye This ribeye taste (meat, texture, and quality) exactly like Applebee's ribeye I have had plenty of $30-$60 steaks to say in my opinion, that this steak was on the same level. It was bland, greasy, felt like it was on a bacon press (you could even taste bacon grease on it) Loaded potato was a joke, paid $3 to load it, with a huge potato, dry, with light toppings. No salt or anything on potato. Green beans were extremely greasy, couldn't even eat half In my opinion, I could have gotten this exact same meal at Applebee's for half the price. So when you go to a steakhouse, what do you care about more? (a) the steak? (b) or ... the house? If you chose (a), you'll be fairly happy here. They have excellent steak, done the simple way with salt and pepper and flame and some hearty sides that are not an afterthought. The price is appropriate for local Oregon beef and you'll receive polite service with a smile. And a decent draft beer, too. If you chose (b), then you'll be *very* happy here. The interior is lavishly decorated and awash in polished wood and brass and shiny surfaces in that over-the-top Western heritage sort of way: part reality (this is Pendleton, after all, and real cowboys still exist), but part nostalgic fantasy. That's OK. It's eating out, and we can splurge a bit when we want to be entertained. And someone surely splurged to remake Hamley into what it is today: a little outside money perhaps but Western towns are all about reinvention. Newcomers are strangers first and locals eventually, if they stick around long enough. The current refurbished version of Hamley has lasted long enough to be considered a local attraction, I think. But I'm the stranger here. Maybe Pendletonians are still ambivalent. For me, Hamley was Plan B because Virgil's was closed that night, but in the end, I'm really glad this was the case. It was quiet, being winter midweek, but not empty. There was a lively feel, even if the energy was restrained. I ate well, ate local, and didn't need to roll myself back up the hill to the B&B that night. I consider this a very good thing. And the artwork and glass displays of saddles and boots and Western artifacts are worth an extra 15 minutes or more to explore, if you have the time. So, if you are an (a) or a (b) or maybe a little of both, this is an option you might like. When you're next in Pendleton, that is. This place is amazing. Every time me and my family pass through here we eat at Hamley's. Everything from their salads, to their meals, to the desert is great. Even their bread is delicious. I would recommend the roast beef and the chocolate lava cake for desert. I had the half rack ribs. They were VERY tender, moist, and sufficiently flavored with BBQ sauce. I had a side of their salmon, which was cooked to perfection. My cost was $38 for my dinner. My colleague had the $35 top sirloin. He said that it was worth it and could definitely taste the quality. He said the Hamley whiskey is smooth going down. Downtown Pendleton was fairly slow, but this bar was fairly lively (but it also felt like it was close to an early closing time.....I guess everyone is pacing themselves for Round Up). I was surprised to find a Lost Coast ale (a brewery from my stomping grounds in Humboldt County California). I had a Great White ale. My friend and I chilled here, and gauged the crowd. The stink of an upcoming Pendleton Round Up was in the air. If we were here a week later, I'm sure this place would be unbelievably more crazy. Our server was super cool & nice. I guess she has to be, she's from East LA! That was a surprise. It was interesting that a gal from East Los would be up here in cowboy country. We were seeking a late night bite to eat when we were in town, and we're directed to this massive, sprawling steakhouse. By the time we got there, (after 9pm), there was seating in the the bar only. What I'm sure was the limited bar menu ended up being more than what we needed. We tried the pork tacos (on special for Taco Tuesday) for just $4 for 3. They were perfect and messy and just the right size. We also got the buffalo chicken salad which came with a hearty serving of blue cheese dressing. My IPA did a fine job quelling my burning tongue from the flavorful unique buffalo sauce, but we just had to get the ice cream sundae to finish it all off. The "scoop" of vanilla turned out to be about 3 and the chocolate sauce was almost hot fudge. Our server had the entire bar while we were there, so I think she did a pretty good job of getting us what we needed. I have got prime rib that was a lot tenderer for less money other places. Granted round up time is VERY busy and it may be better when they are not as busy.
