My first compliment is to the professional and incredibly nice Kirri. She took care of us in the bar as we waited for our table. Kirri was attentive in spite of the fact it was Pendleton Round Up and crazy busy! Our server, Nicolle was also excellent. Based on the excellent service it is clear our awful food had to of been a one off due to Round Up. But when you order a "wild prawn" cocktail you don't expect 6 warm verging on hot shrimp only slightly larger than popcorn shrimp. Add to that fried fish that is dripping in grease plus cold in the middle you've got a disappointing meal. But again it was during Round Up. Went in prior to check it out they said no resy needed and could order either menu either side. Returned for dinner and wouldn't let us pick menu said we needed a resy. Once seated terrible service, slow and snippy server made us feel like an inconvenience. Ribeye and filet were edible, not checked on, had to hunt her down for dressing and ketchup. Auto grat on bill but then brought credit receipt with additional tip line to fill out. Really bad steaks from a prime steakhouse. Even the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were inedible. We had dinner last week. Ate there a few years ago, and when we planned this recent trip I knew where we would have dinner. My husband started with a salad and I talked him out of his usual and he had the spinach salad, loved it. We both had steaks and I like mine cooked a little more than most. When it came out I was sure it was under cooked. I cut in and sure was. It was quickly returned to the kitchen and came back really good. But those vegetables! I have never had ones so perfect. I do not like cooked carrots but decided to try them. OMG! Best ever. I told my husband he needs to figure out how to make them so we could have them everyday. I had the sangria, which was really good. My husband finished with the mud pie, which I had to help with since it was so big. The place is just beautiful. What a disappointment. Our grand children wanted to experience the ambience which is lovely. Our salads were good as was the meat. But the side vegetables were intolerable. The snow peas were like overcooked leftovers and some were literally charred &the fingerling potatoes tasted tough like warmed over leftovers. The bartender and wait staff were absolutely fantastic!! I had a med-rare ribeye. It was nicely done and buttery tender. BUT the filet wasn't fit for my dog. It had the color of med-rare (as ordered) but was dry and actually hard. So my critique will be this place is a hit and miss when it comes to food prep. read more

Yee-Haw Hamley Steak house, it's fun, it is perfect for where it is. YELP Short Answer: I'd say a must if traveling to Pendleton, which was turned up to extra hot on this day in July, 114 degrees. Location: Great downtown location is the old building, looks like it's been there for decades, maybe centuries we could not locate the year built. Guessing 1860 ish. Lots of history with the name and different businesses over the years, same with the town of Pendleton itself, not really sure why it grew there. Buildout: Awesome old school oak and more oak everywhere maybe a refresh not too long ago. Menu: Everything you dreamed of and more. They have the BEEF. Food Prep: Well done, nice touches you will be satisfied with how it looks but that is only part of the deal. Food Quality: Well the other part of the deal is how does it taste. It was great. Had a Prime 14oz Ribeye MR perfect. Of course I could only eat half so maybe should have ordered the 8 oz fi·let mi·gnon but seldom do I make good decisions after a day of hot golf and a giant ass martini! Libations: Generous and well done. They only had one bartender for the entire place that night and he or she Rocked the Casbah. Well done. Wait staff: Well if our table was all hard of hearing our nice waitress would have been perfect but she was a little loud, no seriously her volume was turned up to 11 and she was having a really good time, maybe she was assisting the bartender too much? She was great and very attentive, we all had fun and that is important. First time visit. Last time visit. We were greeted with an angry man who proclaimed "Don't waste your money!" As he slammed his coors banquet down on the old sewing machine. What a precursor to what was in store. The restaurant and bar are Wild West Bank themed? Maybe Wild West Bank robber theme? Draw your own conclusions here. Either way, not horrible and not amazing. Good enough to get the job done. We stood at the front counter of a primarily empty restaurant waiting for someone to seat us. When the hostess did finally arrive, she left to go clean the table she wanted us at. I am unsure why the twenty other tables were not sufficient enough to be sat at, but that's how it went. Our waitress was a real treat. She posed the attitude as wanting to be anywhere than at work. Our water jug was basically thrown on the table as she sped away. "What do you want" was our "are you ready to order." Our entrees were brought along with the check and an ask about desert. Uhhh we haven't even eaten yet so... no? The food was totally amazingly lack luster that I believe a nursing home would have been a better option. Bread was brought out for the table. Cold hard rolls, these must have been left over from when this bank was in operation. Kids pasta option tasted like a mix of over cooked pasta, perfume, and out of date milk. The chicken Marsala had a flavor that I don't believe I have ever had before. Certainly not what anyone would order or want to eat. My steak had nice char and good flavor. Win! What a shame, a beautiful restaurant with wonderful wood work in a great small town, yet after three visits ordering their steaks, they get a thumbs down for the thinness of their cuts whether tenderloin, ribeye or wyghuu and overcooked all. I truly don't enjoy writing bad reviews and if necessary I try to be constructive. However... Our experience last night was very disappointing. Was expecting great things. Server was delightful and competent. Food was just mediocre. Artichoke appetizer was served cold and undercooked. I took a chance on Liver and Onions, that was a big mistake. I realized it needs to be cooked but this was like shoe leather. This should be removed from the menu. Wife ordered the filet medium, came out cold and very well done. Our server was clearly embarrassed. Took forever to get it replaced however it did come back properly cooked and delicious. Our guests beef stroganoff was dry and disappointing. Had a date day with my sweetheart and we found ourselves in Pendleton. It was a weekday, and we were the only patrons in for an early lunch. The staff was kind and friendly, there was a new gal in training and it was a fun vibe. I had the salmon Caesar salad, the salmon was grilled to perfection, with the exception of a bit too much salt. I'm not going to hold that against them though, I'm picky about salt - most others would probably not have even noticed. I'm shocked how bad the reviews are here. Yes it's busy, yes... big busy restaurant can mean neglect the little things but I didn't see that here. It's a steakhouse and they deliver on the steaks. We were a party of 12. They couldn't seat us all together (walk-in -so totally (valley girl) understandable) so my husband and I sat separate and when I spoke to everybody (ten souls) after they ate, they said they come here every time when in Pendleton (my first visit)....so that's 10 people who rate five stars! We did not partake in the steak mainly because we had it for lunch my husband had the barbecue ribs and I got (cringe worthy --I know) Liver & Onions. EXCELLENT FOOD! Arrived on a busy night during the Pendleton Roundup. Expected a wait, and hostess said "just a few minutes". 10 minutes, 20minutes, and then an hour went by and all the area restaurants closed for the night. If she had been more accurate, we would have gotten right in to a place across the street, but they closed while we waited "a few minutes" We ended up at the Thai restaurant for takeout. 2 hours later we got a text that our table was ready. Better customer service would have included better communication and preparation for a busy night. The Hamley steakhouse in Pendleton Oregon has been around since the early 1900s and still has the remnants of Cowboys tying up their horses to the outside of the bar/restaurant to go in and enjoy a libation or a great steak. The food is very good and the steaks are cooked to Perfection over an open grill. I got the 14 ounce ribeye with a baked potato and vegetables, and it was cooked perfectly to medium rare. The service is excellent Even though we sat in the bar area we had multiple waitresses, taking care of our table and we even got to enjoy happy hour with some special drinks on the menu, This is a large venue restaurant with multiple rooms for having large parties and events, and even has a wine cellar for having wine tasting parties. First if you call yourself a Steakhouse you better know how to cook steak. We had 8 in our party and reservations, we were seated on time and drinks ordered and delivered in 15 or so minutes. As we were ordering drinks the waitress informed us dinner service was running 45 minutes behind so order appetizers if we were hungry. It was Saturday 17th the first street fair had just finished around 4, reservations at 7:30 as we had done the underground live show (very good). Our order did get out quicker than 45 minutes. Six ordered steaks, one Salmon, one dish I don't know. Five of the six steaks over cooked most ordered medium or medium rare, all were well or medium well. The one right one was medium and was good. One sent their steak back and 10 minutes or so later it came back done right. I ordered medium rare and it was well, slightly charred also, did not bother to send back and nobody else did either. Service was good and the waitress was doing her job well. Except the tickets were all mixed up as to what people ordered. Not a big deal we made it work. I probably will not go again as it's an hour drive for us, we have better steaks closer. The bar is cool the town is interesting, the steak not great. For the past two years however, the quality of the food and service has gone way done hill. Favorite menu items have been replaced with mediocre recipes or eliminated altogether. OMG, was planning on Prime Rib but the Grandma's Roast Beef Dinner looked so good I got that instead. Quite possibly the BEST Roast Beef Dinner I ever had.
