I recently learned about this place--I didn't know this had been here for the last eight months. This place is soooooo amazing! The staff is super helpful and friendly. The ambiance was relaxed. It was very clean. The food...all I can say is WOW! It was so dang good! Served on real plats--no paper or plastic. The portions are great too! I got the ham and mashed tators--heavenly! Hubby got he half a chicken and tators--he raved about the chicken. The flavoring was spot on. I HIGHLY recommend checking this place out! It is located near the base for all those missing home cooked southern foods. Next on my list to try is the pot roast!!!!!

As a southern girl, I was very excited to try this place. You order at the counter where you'll encounter some of the friendliest staff - they take care to explain everything to you before you order. It's a traditional meat and three place (aka: plate lunch) where you choose your meat and 3 sides. However, I was pleased to see that they have a 1 or 2 side option as well if you're not in the mood for epic portions. We ordered the smothered pork chops, pot roast, black eyed peas, Mac n' cheese, mashed potatoes with white gravy, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, fried okra, cheesy grits and buttermilk biscuits. I loved the smothered pork chops - the gravy was spot on! I preferred the white gravy on the mash more than the brown gravy, but both were good. The Mac n' cheese was thick and perfectly cooked (I devoured it). The black eyed pease has the perfect amount of ham - well done folks! We didn't care for the cheesy grits as they tasted like someone had added a splash of vinegar in them. The space is super casual, just like the local joints back home - perfect decor for a southern place. Was it my grandma's cooking? No. But was it a solid southern meal that I didn't have to slave over the stove to prepare? YES. I'll be back!

Banana pudding and pecan pie that we took home for dessert.

Hambones was a great place. Service was great and food was even better. Very friendly staff and owner. We will definitely be back.

Dishes offered: Smothered pork chops Mac n cheese biscuit - so much incredible flavor, pork was so tender braised in that mushroom sauce! Mac and cheese was creamy and gooey and perfectly cooked. Biscuits were light and tender crafted with a light hand. Nice toothy crust on the outside, rich buttery flavor. Pot roast with brown gravy, collards, cheesy grits, pot roast was fall apart tender. Collards has tons of slightly smokey hammy flavor - DELICIOUS! Cheesy grits were fantastic. Half chicken squash casserole Mac and cheese mash potatoes and brown gravy. Our friend said the chicken was moist and delicious. Her favorite was the squash casserole. WHAT A GREAT MEAL!!!

Tl;Dr (it just isnt worth it, go eat somewhere else, anywhere else) Had i rated this place on my first visit with a friend and left it at that, i would have given this place a generous four stars. However, on a subsequent return alone, the experience left me feeling cheated/robbed. On my first visit the only complaint me and my friend had was the diced sweet potatoes served like candied yams (or maybe they were candied yams im going off memory). It was a mix of crunchy undercooked pieces and cooked pieces that were smooth and buttery. The disparity was as if they dumped in an undercooked batch and mixed it with one that was older. On my recent return, i was a a bit short on getting a Meat and Three so i got a Meat and One Side which came out to roughly $18.31 with tax and tip (15% because that was all i could afford until payday and i really needed something to eat before work). The Lemon Sole was completely inedible. "Lemon" implies you get a citrus flavor with maybe a HINT of zest. There was no citrus, but instead crushing bitterness of nothing but zest. So powerful in fact, it was as though someone juiced nothing but peel/rind and threw away the rest of the lemon. In addition to the awful flavor, it was RUBBERY. Pressing down on the filet caused it to bounce right back up into its curled shape. Attempting to separate it from the still attached skin, was like trying to separate melted candy from its wrapper. So what was i left with? A tiny cup of cheesy grits, that was just this side of too runny/thin. The cornbread was nice on both visits. So in the end, i wont come back here. You shouldn't come here. This place has very inconsistent (or lacks) quality control. And there is definitely some measure of portion control in this kitchen (and its TIGHT). I can say without sarcasm that i would have gotten better flavor and value at fast food. An hour later at work, im starving and i cant get the bitter zest out of my mouth. Leaving a Meat and Three joint hungry is a crime in some parts of this country.

The food was delicious! I only had two nit picky complaints: the Mac is a little thicker than I prefer and I would've preferred the CFS be drained of the grease for a few more seconds. Now, that outta the way, the good: friggin everything! Bisbee Breakfast Club has been my go-to for CFS in Tucson...this beats it. The breading is seasoned very well, the meat is tender, and put it together with the gravy...it was money. I prefer a little more pepper but straight out of the kitchen that gravy was delicious. They even brought me an additional serving to dip in. The collard greens were my favorite part of the meal. They were savory and tangy with the right amount of firmness. No mush! I soaked up all the juice with my corn bread because I couldn't let it go to waste! The black eyed peas were seasoned differently than I am used to but they were delicious. They have really good zing and a bit of spice, where I am used to them being more savory and having to add hot sauce. These were great as is! The Mac n cheese was super cheesy, seasoned well, and the pasta was cooked properly. I would've liked them to be a touch creamier but the flavors were on point! I really enjoyed the corn bread as well. I had half with butter and half plain (until it was time to soak up the greens' juice). I preferred the corn bread without the butter. It was just that good. The staff were super friendly and explained how the menu worked. I think it is very reasonably priced. The meat and three with a drink is right around $25 and it made me skip dinner because I was still full! (I ate at 10:30am too!) I absolutely recommend this joint and will be back no later than Saturday because I want to try that gumbo!

Great southern comfort food just like your southern mom would make! Delicious crispy fried chicken with a breast and leg/thigh quarter. We chose the homemade mashed potatoes with the country peppered white gravy, buttermilk biscuit with butter and honey....soooo good! The staff were friendly and informative highlighting the daily specials. You'll want to come try each day.

Two pieces of delicious fried chicken with porky collards, Mac and cheese and biscuit. Delicious!

Food is delicious! And they give very generous portions so you'll never leave hungry. This was my second time eating here and it was just as delicious this time as the first. This time I ordered the fried chicken with Mac and cheese, porky collards and a biscuit. Food was hot and fresh. The staff were friendly and engaging and the restaurant was clean. It was a struggle but I finished the meal. Can't wait to come back.

As someone who frequented this restaurant for the last few years, I had a firsthand look at how things were run, and in my experience management operated very unprofessionally. It ultimately pushed me to stop supporting this business, and based on those experiences, I can no longer recommend it. There are far better BBQ options out there. From what I personally witnessed, the owner, David, was consistently disrespectful toward employees and created a company culture that I don't believe deserves support. Also important to note that there is something up with the drains/ sewer system in this building and about once a week the entire dining room smells like a sewer leak.. gross

Wait times for food can be a bit longer due to the crowds of people, but I didn't mind it as long as some food and drinks trickled in. We had the following dishes: Bitter green salad: it was definitely bitter but balanced with some sweetness from the tomatoes. No complaints here! Pork shoulder dish: I can't remember the description but I thought some pork pieces were a bit bland, but the flavors were good. Steak: This is not featured in my photos but it's a steak dish that came with garlic potatoes and straw fries. My favorite parts were the fries and potatoes. The steak was bland and really could have used a chimichurri sauce. Duck confit white mole: WOW! Crispy duck with a delicious mole sauce. I wish there was more of this dish!!!! Malaysian curry with fried tofu: another incredible dish with lots of flavors, but it needed more curry to match the amount of rice etc. Roasted broccolini: It came with some sort of sesame sauce and coconut flakes and wow, I thoroughly enjoyed this dish! Beet cavatelli: another excellent dish. Overall, probably closer to a 4.5 here but I'll round up. There were a few minor things in execution of the dishes, but honestly, the ones that hit really hit the mark for sure. Drinks were all tasty as well! The bruschetta with chorizo was rich, bold and satisfying. The sea bass of the aguachile was cubed in too-big of a cut and unpleasantly fishy. The grilled chicken sandwich is my go-to and it's good every time. We both usually get one, and a lot of the time we'll add buffalo wings, which are some of our favorites in Tucson. Good flavor, good texture, and always reliable. If anything, the wings could always use a little more sauce, but they're still one of the better orders on the menu. The only real issue, and it happens pretty often, is the service speed. Everyone there is friendly, but the place always feels understaffed, especially when it's busy. We've had multiple times sitting outside in the Arizona heat where it takes 15-20 minutes just to get water to the table, and you start wondering if you should go up to the bar yourself to get things moving. Once service gets going everything is fine, but getting that first round of attention can take longer than it should for how often this place fills up. Even with that, we keep coming back. I ordered a small combo plate of ribs and sliced brisket (sliced with the grain and not cross it as it should have been) and my sides were greens and coleslaw. I did not see the sign that said all of their meats were sauced, but if I saw it, I would not have had them put sauce on anything. As someone who smokes a lot of food, when I taste meat, I want to taste the meat and the seasoning and the smoke itself. The ribs and brisket were very tender, but all I could taste was the vinegar in the barbecue sauce. It completely ruins the meal for me because if I wanted to drink barbecue sauce, I would've asked them for a side of it with a straw. I did not taste the meat, I did not taste the seasoning, I did not taste the smoke. I also believe that if a pitmaster floods their product with barbecue sauce, they are hiding something. So I can't tell you anything about the meats other than everything tasted like barbecue sauce. For the side dishes, I got the coleslaw which was tasty and the greens. You can see the picture I took after I finished the greens and it looked like I had a cup of soup. I don't know why they wouldn't drain the water out of the greens. Since I was the only one in the restaurant, I was also surprised that nobody came up to me and asked me how the food was. They were all busy on their phones or talking to each other than to check with one of their paying customers if they were enjoying their food. The place itself, physically, I liked because it was a hole in the wall type atmosphere. I don't think I would've chosen contemporary hip-hop for my guests to hear. So that's it, I'm giving it two stars only because the tenderness of the meat, but definitely not because of any other flavoring I tasted. I also felt it was extremely overpriced for the portion size. I tried it, now I can write a review and know that I will never go back again.
