Amazing dining experience. My friend and I had not been here and made reservations and ended up coming early and they were able to accommodate us. Told us about specials We're both sober and the mocktail options were phenomenal! I actually got two of the same type of mocktail which I rarely do. We shared the bruschetta which has an amazing flavor profile from sweet, salty, spicy. The menu said it had pepperoncini on it and when I think of pepperoncini I think of the bright yellow peppers which the peppers in the photo were definitely an elevated version if not homemade or sourced from a higher quality place, but the flavor on them was amazing. They offered for us to add an extra toast since we were splitting it between the two of us, so that way we had an even amount. I opted for the steak and my friend had a shrimp dish and we were just talking about how I'm allergic to shrimp but I can be around it. I just can't eat it and the waitress was kind enough to let me know the steak was marinated in an oyster sauce, ahead of time so that couldn't be changed and that attention to detail. I really appreciate it. I am not allergic to all shellfish just shrimp and lobster so that was kind of her to double check on my allergy. The steak was cooked to perfection and extremely flavorful. I really liked the salad as well. The coconut mochi cake was really the star of the show here it was a well done, toasted coconut flavor with a soft, moist cake and homemade whipped cream and sauce. We made sure to save room for dessert. I really loved this place maybe for a special occasion as it is more on the pricey side, but honestly, the level of ingredients, quality, attention to detail really stands out for the cost here the waitress even even boxed up my leftovers and held onto them so they wouldn't crowd our table. Came here to celebrate our anniversary and it's very good. We had ordered salmon plates, tofu, bread and butter and also almond mousse. It's very delicious and it's our first time coming here. This was our first time at Coronet! Definitely book a reservation in advance. They are very busy but there is spacious indoor and outdoor seating. Wait times for food can be a bit longer due to the crowds of people, but I didn't mind it as long as some food and drinks trickled in. We had the following dishes: Bitter green salad: it was definitely bitter but balanced with some sweetness from the tomatoes. No complaints here! Pork shoulder dish: I can't remember the description but I thought some pork pieces were a bit bland, but the flavors were good. Steak: This is not featured in my photos but it's a steak dish that came with garlic potatoes and straw fries. My favorite parts were the fries and potatoes. The steak was bland and really could have used a chimichurri sauce. Duck confit white mole: WOW! Crispy duck with a delicious mole sauce. I wish there was more of this dish!!!! Malaysian curry with fried tofu: another incredible dish with lots of flavors, but it needed more curry to match the amount of rice etc. Roasted broccolini: It came with some sort of sesame sauce and coconut flakes and wow, I thoroughly enjoyed this dish! Beet cavatelli: another excellent dish. Overall, probably closer to a 4.5 here but I'll round up. There were a few minor things in execution of the dishes, but honestly, the ones that hit really hit the mark for sure. Drinks were all tasty as well! Been wanting to eat here for over a year, its close to where I work. Decent sized parking lot next to this late 1880's adobe buliding that was originally a tailor shop, but has been a bar/restaurant for at least 20 years. Ambiance/Cleanliness- It's clean and welcoming. Lots of warm brown accents and whitewashed walls. Very dimly lit. The courtyard is charming and cosmopolitan. The tables are fairly lightweight and slide easily. 4 stars. Service-Sarah was our server and she was wonderful. She answered all questions with warmth and patience. She brought out all wines by-the-glass for my dining companion to sample. When I made a comment about the aguachile...she subtracted it from the check. Best of the best. 5 stars Food-Mixed bag...The Midnight salad was lovely, but the texture of the vegan mozzeralla was odd and did not compliment the otherwise flavorful and vibrant dish. The bruschetta with chorizo was rich, bold and satisfying. The sea bass of the aguachile was cubed in too-big of a cut and unpleasantly fishy. We both ordered the steak dish which in reality was an unconstructed charred Caesar salad with steak. We asked for medium steak and got medium rare. It was quite chewy and may have sounded like a good. idea on paper...but it wasn't. I didn't finish it. The brown brown butter Tres Leches was one of the top desserts of my life..simply brilliant. Ambiance is interesting. Very romantic, dim lights with antique furniture. Service was awesome. Sarah was fantastic. All the servers were. Started out with the bruschetta, striped bass agua chile and midnight salad. Midnight salad was delicious as was the bruschetta. Very interesting and unique takes with knockout flavor. The striped bass was prepared poorly. Although the fish tasted fine it was cubed making for a clunky dish that was hardly palatable. It should have been sliced. Although the other flavors complimented well, they were overwhelmed by the huge bites of fish. The main course was the hanger steak with a salad that had a cream poblano caper sauce. My steak was supposed to be prepared medium. It was not. It was medium well making for chewy overcooked pieces on a beautiful cut of meat. I asked for a side of salt bc my steak desperately needed it. The steak did have a delicate marinade that was tasty but not strong enough in my opinion. I also noticed my salad was dressed differently than my friend who ordered the same dish. I asked for more salad dressing but the salad was irredeemable, even with more dressing it was boring and tasteless. Ended the night with the pear tres leches and it was incredible. Fantastic service and atmosphere real cool vibe. The menu is basically appetizers and 4-5 main dishes. Like any fancy places you will not leave full, but you will leave satisfied. This did leave room for deseert which was also fantastic. The fact that a place with this high a price point felt the need to charge for bread is why this is not a 5 star review. The food was great, I dont believe there is anything bad you could get on the menu, which changes from time to time. The cocktails were pretty good but that may be because its attached to a cocktail bar. Over all I'd recommend you try it out and that the owner stop charging $5 for 4 small disks of bread with frozen disks of 'butter' when every table is paying over $100. read more

Our food was amazing, especially the Pan Seared Desert Pearl Mushrooms, made up of three sisters(rancho gordo heirloom beans, squash, corn), and a homemade corn tortilla. This was their only plant based option on their menu(besides the salad) and it did not disappoint. The gentleman who seated us wasn't very friendly or welcoming. Our waiter was a young man who got the job done but was not friendly or personable. I'd love to see them add more non alcoholic beverages on the menu. I asked our waiter if they had any mocktails, but he was unsure. We had water and then hot tea with our dessert which was delicious. This is a beautiful historic building and they have a lovely patio as well, serving brunch during the day. Although they only have one plant based option on their menu, I'm excited to try them again as their chef is an artist and changes the menu seasonally. After a failed attempt to find parking downtown, we headed over to Nightjar (thank goodness for a private parking lot) and ended up at Coronet Restaurant which is inside/behind/part of(?) Nightjar? I'm not actually sure to be quite honest. I do think a little more clarity would make for a better dining experience. We ended up ordering at the Coronet and taking a seat on the back patio which was really nice. It took probably 30 minutes to get our appetizer and entrees which felt a little long since there weren't too many people there. What made up for the less than stellar dining experience was the grilled cheese. I wish I had asked what kind of cheese they used exactly but it was delicious. The bread was perfectly toasted, so crispy and yummy. I might come back here to try Nightjar but otherwise, I wouldn't come back to dine again aside from the grilled cheese. read more

We came here for dinner on a busy Saturday night and service was excellent. Cocktails: The Coronado: Well-balanced and surprisingly enjoyable, even though I typically don't like mezcal. Definitely the standout and the only one I'd order again. Summerhaven: Had a bitter aftertaste with a cloying finish--not for me. The Third Bird: Also well-balanced but just okay overall. Night Gardener: Tried it with added tequila, but it ended up tasting like straight tequila--not good. Food: Escargot Rockefeller: Very light and fresh, but I wish there had been more escargot. Steak Tartare: It was okay but lacked flavor and felt a bit plain. Salmon: The spiced red lentils were outstanding and masked the flavor of the salmon, which I didn't enjoy on its own. It was way too rare. I did not like the side of shishitos which were a large portion of the dish. The Hen: Absolutely delicious, and the sides were just as impressive. Took in a second visit to this establishment just before the ballet. All the reservations that were available at the time were bar seats so we took them as it's a convenient walk to the Linda Ronstadt performing arts center. The Coronet has some things going for it - a casually intimate ambiance with a touch of Tudor slash apothecary decor and a creative menu. Wanna add that this is for dining indoors in the main bar area. Another detail of note is how dark it is inside. I'm not just saying this cuz I'm practically blind but I would have not ordered the havoc-wreaking on my stomach shishitos if I had known that they would take up half of the seared salmon small plate. And there were lentils on this plate? Minus the peppers, the salmon was nice. And the bartender even said, people either eat all the peppers or they don't eat them at all. Should be a sign, chef. To fill the void in my tummy I ordered the CHERMOULA ROASTED CABBAGE. If you love Brussel sprouts of straight up cabbage, this is a delicious must. The tepary beans, harissa lebneh, pine nut and sultana crumble was so yummy coupled with the roasted flavor of the cabbage. Washed down with a playful cava, my meal was a satisfying amount for going to the ballet afterward, not overly filling. Back to the darkness? Someone in my party had order a standard dirty martini that wasn't made correctly, admitted because the bartender had grabbed the wrong bottle. Not enough lighting with all those dark glass bottles? Food arrived at a nice clip. Service was a little cold and stand off-ish. After dinner, 2 of us noted this aspect of the service as we asked one another "did you think the service was kind of pretentious or snobby? Can't remember the exact word. Reminded me of dining in Seattle (that's not a compliment and Canlis doesn't fall under that generalization). I would eat here again if someone asked me, "hey, where can we go get a drink and a bite and make sure that the server leaves us alone and isn't too helicopter-y?" I have just the place. I came to Coronet for dinner last night hoping to get a unique, vegetable forward meal. The restaurant delivered in spades! Here's a quick recap of my dining experience: Food: I actually ended up ordering a completely vegetarian meal, and it's been my favorite meal in Tucson so far. Standout dishes included the roasted cauliflower terrine, which was accompanied by two slices of Einkorn Miche bread from Tucson's James Beard Award winning Barrio Bread. I was also impressed by the tack room chocolate mousse, which came with a pecan tuile. Service: I sat at the bar and received satisfactory service from the bartender and other restaurant staff. If you love a good presentation when it comes to food, the Coronet is the place to go. We ordered a couple of appetizers to start off, and the flavors were unique and interesting! The beef carpoccio we ordered was pretty good and paired well with the mushroom. I can't remember what the second dish we had was, but it had a thick custard like texture (i think it was some type of pureed vegetables) decorated with fried thinly sliced potatoes and asparagus. Pair it with the bread and it was good, but not amazing. Dessert was probably the best part. Poached pear was warm and sweet, and paired really well with the icecream. We also ordered a brownie...but it was the size of a mini brownie so being shared amongst 3 people..we only had one bit of it. Prices are kind of expensive, and portions are on the smaller side. We had dinner here before seeing Jerry Seinfeld at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall (formerly Tucson music hall) and I thought the food was excellent. I think the Yelp stars should be much higher than it currently is. I got the braised short rib and my husband got the trout. Both were excellent along with the mousse dessert. The food was great, though not always what I expected. The escargot was creamy and had a strong veggie flavor to it. It kind of overpowered the escargot for me but I still enjoyed it. I got the braised pork pasta which was amazing, creamy yet light. Wish it had a little more pasta but I enjoyed it either way. I was so excited to come to the Coronet for dinner! We visit Tucson a few times a year because of family and we had visited the Meyer cafe prior and loved it. First off, it's stunning! Absolutely makes a great first impression. So much history and unique architectural features. The decor and furniture is on point and very interested to look at while you are dining. Eclectic yet not overly decorated. Our experience was mostly great! With a reservation at 6pm, we were first put towards the back next to the door which felt like an odd place because it was so far removed and very cold next to the door. It was only a quarter full so we had to request to move which seemed mostly okay. We started with the artichoke appetizer, an old fashioned & a virgin cocktail - which was very good! So happy to find a bar that offered a range of non alcoholic cocktails for this pregnant lady. We shared the wedge salad which was good and different and each got our own ribeye entre which was okay. We both thought the mushrooms were odd and quite chewy. We loved the potatoes but didn't quite have enough to finish and the steak was good. Overall, i recommend for a unique experience! read more

Finally got to try out Nightjar/ (Mayer Ave cafe/The Coronet?) ?? [ Glad I was adamant about trying this place, because their hours posted on Google said it was closed (perhaps with different names/changes?) ... I gave em call and found they were open!!! Whoohoo!] With the very convenient parking lot outback, but not so convenient signs as to where to enter, or that there was more then one entrance, we found out way through the front.. Upon walking in, you're immediately met with a beautiful, quiet courtyard, that leads down various paths, one of which leads to the café. Inside you can find the cafe counter, as well as various gifts, treats, and goodies of all sorts, as well as a friendly great from the baristas behind the counter. The daytime menu, (8-2), is a unique, yet simple variety of food, that is appealing yet also not your standardized breakfast brunch food by any means... from granola at $13, to a more sophisticated Barrio Gravelax bagel w/ side salad at $18 - this is by far one of the more intriguing places in town for the daytime options, with a price to match. I tried what felt like a familiar, yet interesting enough southern bowl, which consisted of two fried eggs, black beans, spuds (potatoes), with warm green chili & cilantro lime crema at $15, with the option of adding Dragoon session sausage at $8, or bacon for $6 dollars more, (which I opted out of to not burn a hole in my pocket before noon). My mother splurged a bit and got the Gravelax bagel w/ side salad at $18. We also picked out two café drinks, a café Americano (hot), and an iced mocha, which came out as hot, but eventually got the right one (iced).. all very tasty!! Both dishes, we agreed, were very well prepared and plated beautifully.. mine caught me off guard a slight bit, when I realized I never specified over-easy eggs, which ultimately was a little much to stomach, but very much appreciated the presentation. My mother expressed her enjoyment of the unique nature of the Gravelax bagel w/ side salad, but unfortunately, we both felt it was a little more money then was reasonable for what it ultimately was.. which essentially, is just a bagel with fish and a small small side... perhaps because it had fish? and a small portion of salad? I guess that it validates the price.. but, felt because of the many vast breakfast/lunch spots in town to choose from at a more reasonable price, ultimately felt a bit of a stretch, especially for my wallet and for dropping big bucks all before noon. Our café experience was definitely the highlight of our experience! Very well the best coffees we've had in a while, and why I left with at least some satisfaction.. This place has so much to offer in atmosphere, quality of service, and delicious drinks, so I hope to see more diversity when it comes to menus and price points to suit all walks of life that could really appreciate this beautiful place, and really benefit this business and amplify its potential. :) Perhaps I'll come with guests for an fancy evening at (Nightjar? This is a solid, nice sit-down restaurant to treat the family. Our waitress nicely explained their seasonal menu. We had 3 starters: oyster mushroom tempura (light and nicely paired with the papaya salad and pickled melon), snails in the garden (with mixed veggies and sausage), and the smoked whitefish rillettes (a little heavier than the other 2 but went very well with the crostini). They all each had very different and unique flavors. We shared 2 entrees: herb crusted sea bass (great sweet shrimp seafood flavor and the risotto soaked up the bouillabaisse sauce nicely) and the wild boar birria bucatini (pasta had great texture and birria flavor did not disappoint). Being my first time here, I would give The Coronet a 7/10 . The food was flavorful and my favorite thing about the whole experience! The menu is on the shorter side but has many options from fish to rabbit (pictured), to a pork (pictured) or chicken option as well. Presentation was amazing and as I am big on flavorful food, I had no complaints (didn't even need salt/pepper :) The potato soup was good, didn't pick up on the garlic but nonetheless, delicious. The pork dish I ordered had great sides that complimented the pork (I was pleasantly surprised with the turnip greens!) Only drawback is the size of the portions for me, but I understand there is a trade off with quality food. Overall great experience! read more

I was looking forward to experiencing this Tucson classic. My party of 5 light eaters left hungry in spite of ordering full sized large plates and desert. The $38 quail dish likened a dollhouse miniature, its two carrots and almost an entire small turnip were not fully cooked. On flavor-the pork belly was interesting. Our medium rare steaks were medium / well, one composed mostly of fat. The exterior atmosphere was lovely we were especially happy not to be in the well worn dark interior environment.
