This restaurant has jazz every Sunday afternoon from 2-5p.m. Absolutely incredible musicians and singer! The crowd was festively dressed and happy and truly enjoying this music. We got shareable appetizers, the burnt end nachos with brisket and fried buffalo cauliflower florets with ranch dressing. Both delicious!! I had the Old Forester 1920 whiskey- 1 Oz and that was plenty! The bartender served us water as well as we had sat up at bar. The was professional and quite efficient. Before we left, I asked bartender what I could get to bring home for my dog- thinking he would laugh at me, but he told me he does same for his dog and that he eats better than him. We laughed when I said "same!" He suggested the tacos and would separate out the pulled pork from the onions, cotija cheese and jalapeños- and did! The move to counter service completely changed the vibe of this restaurant, and not for the better. Service used to be the biggest highlight, and now it feels like you're paying the same prices for a much lower level of attention. As someone who frequented this restaurant for the last few years, I had a firsthand look at how things were run, and in my experience management operated very unprofessionally. It ultimately pushed me to stop supporting this business, and based on those experiences, I can no longer recommend it. There are far better BBQ options out there. From what I personally witnessed, the owner, David, was consistently disrespectful toward employees and created a company culture that I don't believe deserves support. I came specifically for the $2 10-oz beer night, and it did not disappoint. It's an awesome way to sample their huge selection of beers on tap without breaking the bank. My Uber driver was raving about it on the way over, which sealed the deal. While the cheap beer does require a food purchase, I was planning to eat anyway--no complaints there. I went with the 3-for-$11 taco deal and it was more than enough food. You get to choose between green or red salsa; I went with the green, which definitely has a nice kick. I asked the server if they could mix it up with two brisket tacos and one pork belly, and they were happy to accommodate. After reading some mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised--nothing was dry or overly fatty. Everything was flavorful and delicious. My total for four 10-oz beers and three tacos was just over $20, which is an incredible deal for the quality and amount of food and drink. I came to watch the U of A basketball game, and this place is perfect for it--plenty of TVs, tons of seating, and even space for large groups. There's also a covered outdoor patio with lots of seating, plus foosball and cornhole. Parking was easy, too. I sat at the bar, struck up a great conversation, and found the patrons to be super friendly. Overall, a great vibe all around. This review is for the beer bar only. The tap list is impressive. This was our final stop in Tucson for the day. We wanted to drink some new beer and this place popped up under "beer bar." Never having been here before, we stopped in around 4pm on a Friday. The place was not busy. The aroma of sweet BBQ welcomed us as we walked in. We had a fun time! Bartenders Gaston and Jim served us, and chatted with us when they had time. They both seem to enjoy their jobs. We had two different beers each. I'm sure the tap list changes with inventory. I had a sweet fruit beer, Rubaeus by Founder's in Michigan, and a Rogue Chocolate Stout from Oregon. My friend had a Dirty Bastard Scotch ale from Founder's and a Left Hand Milk Stout from Colorado. All four offered a varied taste sensation. This was the first time my friend had a Dirty Bastard on draft and he enjoyed it. The beers I had were new to me, too. The beer prices vary and it seems to depend on the ABV. Higher-alcohol beer like the Dirty Bastard (8.5% ABV; yikes!) is served in 10 oz snifters, while the lower alcohol beer comes in both 10oz and 16oz and higher. The crowd started coming in during our stay. The open dining area got louder but not annoyingly so. Our only complaint were the uncomfortable chairs at the bar. They didn't have back rests nor cushioning. If only they had comfy chairs for us seniors! We could have sat at a table but that meant closing out our tab and getting a server. We enjoyed Jim and Gaston too much. There is ample outdoor seating both up front and on the side, with family-style tables. It is dog-friendly, too, and shaded by trees. I came here for a jazz day a couple weeks ago, and the music was amazing!! Five stars to that! I'm not sure if brother Jon does things like this regularly, but I would definitely go again for that. Because of this event, I think the business was a little more crowded than usual, so I definitely give slack to the serving staff for doing their best to accommodate all of the people and get everything done. My husband and I ordered the ugly steak salad, and the St. Louis ribs with macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was just okay, as we're the ribs. I love the fries that came with my husband salad... however, we found that he was given the wrong order of steak and frites I think. They then brought out the correct order of the ugly stick salad which I guess I didn't get a picture of. That too was just okay. I really like the menu here, but none of the food really blew me away or made me feel a sense of great desire to have it again. I stopped by Brother John's for a quick bite and ended up ordering the Smoked Brisket Elote. I'm a huge fan of Elote and this not only had great flavoring but the brisket was incredibly tender and delicious. The service was quick and attentive and the group I was with really enjoyed the live music. Since switching to QR code ordering, the service has fallen apart -- and the reason was on full display during our last visit. We ordered drinks that sat poured and waiting at the bar for over 10 minutes. The manager walked past them. Then walked past them again. And again. Never picked them up, never asked anyone else to. Just kept strolling the floor like it was someone else's problem. That's not a staffing issue. That's laziness, plain and simple. A manager who won't take 10 seconds to grab two drinks sitting right in front of him isn't managing anything -- he's just present. The restaurant has clearly cut staff to save money, and the person who's supposed to pick up the slack can't be bothered. The BBQ is genuinely great, which makes this all the more frustrating. There was a band setting up but unfortunately didn't stay enough time to see. The raveeee is the food definitely though! We ordered the brisket tacos, brisket Mac and pulled pork sandwich. Let me just say.. those brisket tacos were flavorful and you have to get the hot sauce. It's a chunky salsa with the right amount of heat. The tacos seem small when they first come out but I promise they will dance around your tongue. The Mac and cheese for me personally was also another 10/10. Some crunch on top with some chili flakes and good size pieces of brisket. It was creamy and such a good portion to share with two. My wife did give it like a 7/10 but she's also lactose. Came for a work holiday lunch. The table was ready when we arrived which i appreciated a lot! Our waitress was nice for our party but the service was so slow. Express lunch was not express and I'm confused about why the express lunch isn't advertised on the menu. The music was very loud and we had to ask for them to turn it down. Bread: One of our items was described in the menu as being served on bread. When it arrived at the table without bread, we asked for it. What we received was white sandwich bread that looked like it came from a basic grocery store. Awful! 3. Beans: Dinty Moore??? Actually, that would've been better. Recommend: Sure, consider sitting inside though, the patio is overrun with flies, no fans and no other flying insect zappers or deterrents. Inside was spacious, well decorated and dark. Zero 'welcoming-in' interaction from the Host, but the Waitress made up for that with her warm-hearted introduction. Food was quick to arrive, so that's a plus. Ate outside; really don't recommend that because the restaurants had zero insect repellent fans, or attractants to dissuade them - from eating your meals with you... Food was mediocre, and sadly, just that. Nothing was impressive for a flavorful-punch and certainly nothing that was unappealing; just wasn't moist, tasty nor mouthwatering as 'BBQ' should be. Brother John's Beer Burbon & BBQ serves up some really good BBQ along with all the fixin's. Plus, they have a huge number of beers on tap - over 50 to choose from. I sampled two of their robust stouts but found them a little coffee-heavy, so settled on a delightful Schwartzbier from Dark Sky Brewing Company out of Flagstaff. Called Ghost of Perdition, the flavor was smooth and it really hit the spot along with our platter of BBQ meats and accompanying delights. I highly recommend the cheese cornbread as a side choice. Full of flavor, moist, and just the right amount of sweet. The collard greens were OK, but not quite as good as I remember from other BBQs, but the sweet corn was off the cob and just right! The BBQ meats we ordered were a half-rack, some brisket, half chicken, and four sausages - two hot links and two goat-meat sausages. All were great, although the brisket was not quite a moist as we were hoping for. But the ribs were excellent and I really enjoyed the goat sausage. The ambiance of this place was great, and the owner/manager came over to check on us and help clear out table. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. I paid $50 to reserve a table for 12 guests. The even coordinator neglected to tell me the rest of the place had been reserved for a memorial service. Everyone was somber and crying on a loud microphone while we were there to celebrate. It was uncomfortable. Service was horrid. Food all came before drinks and I had to ask 3 different times about them before they were received. Food was mediocre and overpriced for what they were serving. There were 2 ladies (managers I guess?) who were rude and not helpful. As for food, I had the "Grande" Green Chili Burrito ($15), which contains a mix of beef and pork. It was delicious. The BEST most delicious bbq!!! I had the pulled pork, potato salad and french fries, you get a generous amount of food, a good selection of side dishes and a good selection of delicious bbq sauces. Everything you order is à la carte and the prices are really good for the amount and quality of the food. We came in on a Sunday afternoon and they had live Blues music that was a little too loud for my taste but we got there when they were finishing so it worked out just fine. They have a big selection of beers on draft, they are numbered for easy ordering. We decided to go with the 1/2 lb of pulled pork and 1/2 lb of brisket, they were both delicious! It can be a little noisy, but after all, it's booze and BBQ, so it's not where you'd go for a quiet, intimate meal. We got the signature Mac & cheese which was amazing! I wanted to lick the bowl. My favorite was the mashed potatoes with the gravy. The gravy was freshly made and was sooooo good! This plate I almost stole to take home to really lick off the bowl! These sides were 1000/10. My carnitas tacos, the tortilla was already cold when it came out :( but they were still pretty good 9/10.
