The Hampshire Mall is the scene of many an outing during my days as a UMass Undergraduate. Outings included movies, food, and K-Mart. The only thing really remaining from those days is the movie theater and the JC Penney and they have repurposed the space to be big box stores on the outside that are accessible from the street. I really didn't realize the mall was still contained within but I walked in an entrance and realized I was inside it. The photo shows the food court which you walked through to access the movie theater. Wow, I feel a little Stranger Things. I'm wondering what powers lurk behind or under this mall. It's a little creepy and a little nostalgic all at once. The food court took my breath away. Enjoyed my trip down memory lane. read more

It's not too shabby for a mall. They've got some of your essential stores here like Target, JC Penny, and we came specifically to buy some stuff at Joanns. They have a very impressive selection of fabrics at this location. The food court looked pretty much dead as the mall did in general. There's a movie theater inside as well but it didn't look like there were may people there honestly. I wouldn't go out of my way to shop here but if you're in the area, and needed something; sure, why not? read more

Let's be real - it's a college town mall and basically the nearest place to get the essentials without trekking to Springfield. Unless you have a car, it is likely that you have to endure the B43 bus...Oh B43 bus.. you and your 20 - 200 minute delays. Sweet Hampshire Mall memories. Basically the mall has a cinema ($8.95 Student ticket- show your ID), JC Penney, Bath & Body Works, Target, Trader Joe's, Video game stores, Craft stores. Not too far away, there's a Walmart, Whole Foods, Marshalls and Pet store close by. The mall has really evolved since I last attended my undergraduate years at UMass. There is now a cool arcade/bowling alley and escape room adventure company within the mall, and it really brings life to the place. Make sure you keep an eye for the student rush sales (usually the first week of the Fall semester) where stores participate in pretty good sales (think 50-80% off certain items, $5 beanbags, $1 notebooks etc). read more

I went to the JC Penney store in the Hampshire Mall in Hadley, MA. I visited their Beauty store to buy a Brush kit I had previously seen there. My experience was horrific. When I asked a question about the "Brushes Kit" I was accused of having "touched" the brushes when I had not done that. The person who appeared to be a manager was unprofessional, she yelled at me from where she was ( near the cash register and counter) even when I told her I had not touched any of the brushes. I asked her a question and she ignored me and continued talking with an employee. It was as if she did not know that if I did not buy anything in the store "she would not have a job, or maybe that she hated her job and had to take her anger out on someone. Going to the counter to pay for a jacket I bought was an even more daunting task as the cashier kept talking to me in a loud tone of voice. It seems that the employees of this store in HADLY, MA are not supervised and they feel like treating customers disrespectfully and delight of yelling at them. Let us not forget about a short White mature man who works in that store (mostly at the front counter). He is full of sarcasm and seems to have a hearing problem because he can never understand what you are talking to him about. Hopefully, a manager in Corporate will read this review and thigs will change in this store. But in the meantime, find another JC Penney store where employees will show you some respect. There is no zero for the review therefore I gave this store an undeserving 1. read more

If you're looking for a traditional mall, drive on past. You won't find it here. Very little shopping. On one end is a Target and a Joann's; on the other is a JCPenney. In the middle, a Dick's Sporting Goods. The other stores that used to populate this mall have all closed, and the place is more an activity center than a mall now. A gym, an arcade, bowling alley, a little place for kids to drive cars around, a movie theater, and a couple of massage shops for the parents, LOL. Even the food court has mostly shut down, but there is still a Subway and a few other options, none of which are particularly healthy. Every time I walk through, I scratch my head and wonder how this place stays open at all, or why it still calls itself a mall, but props to whoever is in charge for willingness to try new things. read more

This weekend we spent time at the Hampshire Mall looking for some clothes, electronics and jewelry. We stopped at a few of their most popular stores including Target, JCPenney, Bath & Body Works, and Best Buy. The stores themselves are great, but the mall is lacking and needs some sweet TLC. This mall used to be filled with great stores but in the past few years they have been dropping like flies. The food court is a ghost town and the mall could use some new shops and a face lift. The employees at the majority of the stores are polite and professional. Overall, this mall has a ton of potential but it needs to have some blood pumped into its veins. The food court also needs a little loving. read more

I remember going to this mall a LOT growing up, ever since I was a teenager in the mid 2000's. Now...if you've ever played the video game Night In the Woods, this place has become the real world equivalent of the Fort Lucenne Mall. Years ago, you had a lot of places to go to. A lot more stores, like GameStop (a mall with no video game store is a mall that is severely lacking), Best Buy, GNC, the typical mall dollar store, and the Ground Round restaurant. All of those places hose places are now gone. Even the food court is gone...the FOOD COURT...how does a mall not have a food court??? Some things have managed to survive, thankfully. Target, JCPenney, DICK'S Sporting Goods, X9 Games, Claire's, JoAnn Fabrics, Hannoush Jewelers, and Trader Joe's are stores that have remained since the days of old, as well activities like laser tag, the roller rink, and the Cinemark movie theater. In addition, new places like the PetSmart, Mocha Emporium, Autobahn Speedway, and the upcoming Pinz are breaths of fresh air. Overall, this is still a fairly decent place to hang out, and still a SOMEWHAT semi-decent place to shop. HOWEVER, if you want the feeling of shopping at a mall and exploring different store options, you're better off going to the Holyoke Mall. A few years ago, I would've given the mall 4 stars. It's sad to see so many things gone. But I am thankful for Pinz and Autobahn, otherwise I would've had to give this childhood memory a 2 star rating. I feel bad enough giving it 3 stars. I really hope they get a new food court soon, and a few more stores to replace what's gone. I want it to feel like the mall from my childhood again. :( read more

This mall used to be great many, many years ago, but now it's just tired and downtrodden looking. The JC Penny's, Target and Dick's Sporting Goods are ok, but what else that is left isn't worth the effort to get here. read more

People always dump on this mall. Yes it's 1/2 the size than usual malls but it's exceptionally clean, quiet, and it's fine if you have an hour or two to waste if you have nothing to do. The massage place is great, I come back a lot for that. The theatre is fine. Food options are low but they're ok. Nice little shopping center read more

A sad shell of a formerly decent mall. There is a bunch of empty store spaces, lack of food options, or an options of that matter. At least they have a target. This mall is in bad need of a reinvention. read more

This mall is so sad. I literally get depressed walking in here because it's just such a sad place. A handful of stores, widely spread out, the best one being target. Ugh. Jcpenny is so pathetic. The shoe department had a few lonely racks. There's 3 nail places which makes no sense. I wish this place could get an injection of life, some hope. Something!! The food court consists of 2 places to eat which you couldn't pay me to do so. I'm sure back in the day it was a great place. These days....not so much. read more

This mall has been going down hill for many years. In October Best Buy left because the owner would not address serious issues with tje space. Buffalo Wild Wings left for the same reason three years ago. Every year smaller stores leave. The owner does not take security seriously and soon the mall will be just Target and the movies. read more

If you're a sociology grad student interested in the decline of the mall in surburban America, look no further than here. Russell Street is rapidly being developed and yet it seems like this place can barely give space away. Seemingly half of the building is empty space, and the other half is largely made up of low-rent salons, dollar stores, and other chintzy stuff. The only reason I ever came to the Hampshire Mall was because it was literally a one minute drive from my apartment in Amherst, because really, this mall has little to offer. Sure it has an American Eagle, a Best Buy, and a Target, but if you're willing to drive half an hour, you can go to the Holyoke Mall, which boasts a great deal more in terms of selection. It's never crowded, and the fact that there's a larger mall so close by is probably the reason. There isn't even a Macy's in this mall! The food court is small and has maybe three or four places to eat, including a Sbarro and Subway. An Arizona Pizza restaurant opened recently, but that's about it. I'll give the Hampshire Mall this though - their movie theaters are really nice! I love movie theaters that have interesting architecture, and this one definitely has that. The Hampshire Mall was convenient because of its location, but now that I no longer live in the area, I see no reason for me to shop there again. read more
