Old, tired, worn out, not clean. We looked at two rooms and the were the same. Definitely NOT sanitized. Told the desk clerk we couldn't stay because of the above we were told we would be billed anyway. We were we asked to speak to the manager and she was not in and we would have to call in the next day. She refused to give us a credit. We complained to Hilton Honors. They told us they would talk to the manager and the manager would call us in no more than a day. She never called. We called back to Hilton Customer Service and got nowhere (except for a 5,000 point addition in their program - which is worth about $25). Spent over 2 house on calls to Hilton customer service because of wait times, dropped, calls and incorrect information. The fact they don't do a digital key should have told me the motel was way out of date. read more

Have stayed at these hotels many times, Dismond member. Had internet issues, desk clerk indicated if I pay an additional $5 could get high speed. I told him I was a diamond member, did not help! Also, the tv in the room had a great picture, however the volume has been set so low we could hardley understand what we were watching, "no way to fix that" was the clerks response. Place looks nice enough, but having booked my reservation six months ago, we found the hotel cancelled our reservation he day of our stay and rented out room to someone else leaving a family of 5 to fend for ourselves at a time when all Arcata's hotels were 100% booked. Wasn't happy to find this out after a 6-hour drive from Crater Lake. From the time I reserved the reservation (6 months ago) to the night of my stay my bank issued me a new credit card so the hotel elected they'd rather drop me the day of our reservation when they tried to pre-authorize my card the day of our stay at 1pm. They tried to call me but with spotty cell service in Northern CA, we never got the call. Devon at the desk suggested we drive up the coast and "car camp" and promised we'd be safe (???). He initially tried to help us find an alternate place to stay but mysteriously disappeared when everything in the surrounding area was sold out. He said he understood our situation but he didn't, as he doesn't have 3 kids who were road weary after 6 hours in the car. Shame on you Hilton and shame on you Hampton Inn and Suites - simply unacceptable. Unsavory business practices, especially when our reservation "guaranteed" a late check in!! read more

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites during the Christmas Holidays this year. Although it was my first Christmas staying in a hotel over staying with family or home, I enjoyed my experience. First of all, the Hampton Inn and Suites is the newest hotel in the area. The property is nice and clean. The hotel was pretty much empty, so we found the place really quiet and comfortable. They have a great selection of complimentary teas, coffee and hot chocolate ready for you whenever you want it near the front desk. It was always welcomed as the weather outside was wintery cold. We checked in and went up to our room, but we didn't have a fridge so we were able to change rooms without any issue or additional cost. Our new room had a fridge and microwave in addition to the coffee, tea, etc. Each morning they serve a complimentary breakfast buffet. Switching things up between scrambled eggs and veggie omelets, bacon and sausage, french toast and pancakes, mixed pastries and bagels, oatmeal and dry cereals, yogurt, fruit and juices of every kind. I loaded up my tray and headed back to the room for breakfast in bed. They even offer breakfast to-go bags at the front desk, just in case you don't have time. The staff was really nice from the front desk, to the breakfast attendant to the cleaning crew. I really felt at home, although I was miles away staying at a hotel. While driving up to Arcata, I noticed that the check-in time is 4:30 pm. I was about 90 minutes away at 2 pm and called to see if I could check-in earlier. The front desk person couldn't have been nicer and said no rooms were ready yet, but she would have one ready when I arrived early. Being able to check-in early was a big help! The staff is very friendly and helpful. As some other reviewers have noted, there are homeless in the area, but that's not something the hotel can control. The breakfast was good. Though this one is all yours because we will not be giving any more $ to this hotel....enjoy I'll start with-I'm a diamond member so I've stayed here numerous times over the past few years and never had a Hilton employee treat customers as Dalila did. She is extremely rude and treated us like we were inconveniencing her by asking her to do her job. She seemed to take it personally that I happened to book thru a 3rd party and not directly through Hilton (my husband booked this time) We called and requested the 3rd floor weeks ago and was assured that we would be on that floor. While she tried to sort it out at check in, with no other customers waiting, she must have told my mother a half dozen times to BE PATIENT! She seemed to purposely ask question to which we had already given her the answers just to irritate my mother even more so she could again tell my mother to BE PATIENT. Dalila should not be working directly with customers. She also said she could not provide us with a receipt because we booked thru the 3rd party. Which is a bunch of crap because we've always got receipts no matter how we book - work/tax reason. Also-we when we asked for 4 clean towels the reply we received was 'Why do you need so many?' Well we have 3 people in the room so do the math!?! We were told we could have 2- so as I walked by the cart I just picked up what I needed! I stayed here for 3 nights and my stay here was amazing. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The breakfast every morning was awesome. There was a selection of items from eggs, bacon, maple sausage, pork sausage and some bagel bite thing. This part was different each morning so it was a nice change. There were always hard boiled eggs available each morning as well. Fruit, cereal, waffles, english muffins, pound cake, other types of muffins. There was such a great selection each morning it was better than other nice hotels I've stayed at. The parking is free and easy. Only thing is that it is kind of isolated from everything else so there aren't really great dining options right near the place. But that's the only thing bad about the place that I can think of. I was very disappointed with the very unprofessional desk staff. Delilah was not a delight to deal with. She was rude and obnoxious. Amanda was very helpful and accommodating. We had to fight for a room change and all Delilah could keep parroting to us that there was nothing she could do because we had booked through a third party. At the end of our stay when I asked for a receipt again that was all she could say... that and we needed to be patient next time and book through them rather than a third party. No worries . Pleasantly surprised since we are away from a major urban area but Hampton/Hilton rarely disappoint. The room was clean and smelled clean; how a room smells tells a lot especially in a humid climate. The linens were bright white and inviting while the bed and pillows slept great. The service has been great and the staff is super friendly. Breakfast was hot and most important the coffee is good plus the coffee is available 24 hrs. The grounds are well kept and clean. Unfortunately the surrounding area and shopping area don't have the same standards. We walked to the shopping area which has a fantastic kebab restaurant, grocery, and even a RadioShack but so much trash. The price is what it is for a hotel away from a major urban area--very much like Mammoth where it takes hours to truck things in--actually relived to find a great hotel in the area and not stuck staying at a sketchy place. read more

This is an update: I received an email from the manager apologizing for the shortcomings and with a promise to fix what's wrong and within her powers. I see this as a strong commitment to do better. While I am quick at pointing out problems I am also a believer of making it right and being objective. I came to Arcata to visit my sister, and she recommended that I stay at the Hampton Inn and suites. Overall I would say this is a good place to stay and the staff is friendly. Because of the time change, I was up at 4 o'clock in the morning and when I arrived in the lobby at five there was fresh coffee which was very much appreciated. I needed to cancel one room reservation and they were we're very happy to oblige me and did not charge me. The breakfast was adequate and the fitness room and pool and spa area where Very clean and well-equipped My negative comment would be something that I just don't understand about hotels like this. There was mold growing in the corner of the shower. I was able to clean it with a wet washcloth. I did this because this is always a puzzlement to me that the cleaning crew can't clean mold from showers when it's so easy to do. When you pay $125 to stay in a small town like this, it seems ridiculous that they can't make sure that the shower is clean. That makes you wonder about the rest of the room. Overall I would recommend this hotel if someone is in the area. Had to clean LARGE quanities of hair off the shower wall and floor before I could take a shower. Front desk was indifferent and not sympathetic at all I couldn't sleep at all here.The bed was hard, pillows lumpy, room was loud and cold. The hotel smelled of paint and other chemicals. I could only open the window a few inches, and the heating/air unit was very loud.This is the first hotel I've ever stayed at that had no bathtub! Just a shower, very basic room, no microwave and no refrigerator. I've stayed in many hotels in the Hilton family and I have to say this was probably close to the bottom of the their quality. Our room was large and very clean when we arrived. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was hot and delicious. The location was near a grocery store, fast food and a few little restaurants. The room had a fridge and microwave. BUT - the way this place is constructed you can hear the bathroom fans from the rooms below running...and actually feel the vibration through the floor. We actually called the desk at one point to have them ask the people below us to turn their fan off as it had been running for hours. I couldn't sleep! Then it would be on again by 6 in the morning. We were there 4 nights. Update 24 hours later: I emailed Hilton/Hampton and sent them the above review. They were gracious and anxious for us to be satisfied. I saw a guy on hands and knees scrubbing away in the hallway by the dining area. Breakfast area clean-up guy was also notably efficient, pleasant and thorough. Nice staff? - Done. From the almost eerily pleasant guy on check in, to the quite sweet and friendly house-keeping staff, to the front desk lady who printed out walking directions for me, Hampton has done their hiring and training well I'd say. Amenities? - Got em. The gym is hotel standard: some treadmills and free weights. The indoor pool & hot tub are clean and pleasant. There's an outdoor sundeck of sorts with a poor view of tract housing, but a nice spot to catch some rays. Breakfast? - Included and totally decent. Eggs, waffles, oatmeal, cereal, etc. I left pretty full both days. The dining room is something to note specially. By morning, it's a grand room with high ceilings, comfortable seating, and a TV on at a mercifully low volume. By evening, it's a low-lit internet lounge, mellow and quiet. The only drawbacks appear to be the same as at possibly every hotel in Arcata: no room service and not an ideal location if you're not driving. After staying in this hotel last week, I woke up in the morning with itchy welts all over my body. At first I thought it was because of a mosquito or something in the room, but when I got home a couple of days later, my wife said they were from bed bugs and then showed me pictures from the internet that pretty much confirmed her suspicions. I try and only stay in Hilton brand hotels because I (used to) trust that they were clean. They are usually more expensive, but I choose them for peace of mind. I travel a lot and am rethinking my loyalty program right now. As I write this, I'm five days into this and my welts and itchiness do not seem to be going away. If this doesn't get better by tomorrow, I'm heading over to the doctor. I've still got my luggage from this trip in plastic trash bags in our garage as I try and figure out how to ensure I don't infest our home. So far, I let the people at the front desk know that I woke up itchy when I checked out, and once I confirmed that these did look like bedbug bites and that what I am feeling is the same that is described by others who have gotten bedbugs, I called the main Hilton line to let them know about what is happening. They told me (and sent me an e-mail to confirm) that someone would be calling me within 72 hours to follow up. It's been about 20 hours since I called and I haven't heard anything else. I'll update if/how they remedy this situation. In the meantime, I've got two weeks of travel coming up...not sure where I'll be booking my lodging yet. It's hard enough to travel for work without having to worry about this kind of crap. +++++++++++++++ I just received this note from the property manager-- "Just wanted to inform you that the morning that you checked out, the Front Office Manager, immediately contacted the pest control and reviewed the room. They did an inspection and they were unable to locate anything in the room or on the property. I do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused but we did not find anything that would have created these bites that you have. Pros: Close to freeways. Close to fast food, coffee and grocery store. Clean rooms and automatic checkout. Wi-fi is easy. Nice entryway. Carb options for breakfast if your into that kind of thing. Cons: they claim upscale and I guess it could be considered that considering the area. (It's really not). Late check in at 4:30 pm. If you want early you need to request it. High price for the room. With taxes one night cost me $200 and I got a great view of the condo and other hotel behind me. Horrible fake eggs, gross sausage. Irritants: fire alarm going off before 8 am. Slamming of doors that ricochet down the hall do not lend to a good night sleep. When in shower the pipes rub making noise. Front staff not answering the phone. I twice let that ring until it automatically disconnected. I gave up and will address it to the staff directly. Cost of room for the quality received. And request from initial booking not being recognized until I had to follow up. I won't be back. It isn't that hard. Received follow up after completing their survey in which they acknowledged the fire alarm, claimed they have a 24 hour person at the desk, yet stated that they were the one that was manning the desk then ran upstairs to address the fire alarm, leaving the front desk empty. They stated they will check with the cook about the quality of the eggs. And lastly looked forward to my next stay. NOT. I'll throw my money somewhere else. read more

Arcata is a great spot to stay in to be close the the Redwoods, the beaches and Eureka. The town doesn't offer much but it's a convenient location. And the Hampton Suites is the perfect choice. Hilton chains always meet high standards and this was no exception. The decor was nice, sleek and clean. The room was huge with light bedspreads that gave it a modern look despite the brown carpets. Our view was of Carl's but there's not much to see in the area. The room as so quiet you'd think we were the only guests! The ameneties in the room were Neutrogena and they felt like good quality. I loved that they had a handheld showerhead which many hotels don't - it makes bathing young children so much easier! Breakfast was much better than a typical Continental affair with good bagels, a waffle iron, ceral, fruit as well as eggs, potatoes and sausages. The coffee was suprisingly palatable and the breakfast room was lovely. The staff always greeted us with a smile. All in all it was a great stay and I'd highly recommend it for traveling with kids. read more

Hotel is acceptable. Staff is VERY friendly, especially in the evening. However, management is a different story. Two females both with bold opinions, unfriendly, and 1 is extremely loud for no reason. Gym is better than expected for cardio. Not much for weight lifters. Have stayed here multiple times with the AC broken in the gym and it is terribly hot and muggy. Generally quick to fix, but left wondering why is it broken so often? Doors shut VERY loudly. This Hampton Inn was exactly as you'd like them to be: clean, quiet, roomy, and nicely furnished. It seemed very new, or newly renovated, which made for a pleasant stay. My only complaint is the same complaint I have with all Hampton Inns - the breakfast is sub-par. I appreciated the coffee. Lots of bread options, but if you prefer not to have bread (or can't), you're stuck with fake eggs, sugary yogurts, and lackluster fruits. I just wish they would give us real food! read more

I'm usually a Marriott guy since 90% of my travel is on business. In Aracta there is no Marriott property so I went with this place and scored a few Hilton Honors points. We were in the week of Thanksgiving and it was a little light on occupancy. The property seems fairly new and was well maintained and clean. Our room was spotless and spacious. The front desk was manned by Darren (sp?) and he was courteous and professional. I inquired about places to eat and he suggested Mazzotti's near the downtown plaza as a good place for kids and he was spot on (see other review). A note on that, this property is about two miles north of the "downtown" Arcata area. While its only about three or four minutes in a car it does separate you from the plaza action. We took our kids to enjoy the indoor pool after dinner, a great way to relax in a long road trip. The free breakfast in the morning was staffed by nice ladies who kept everything full, made easier no doubt by the light occupancy. But the food was good and fresh and filling. If in Arcata and in need of a clean, quiet and friendly hotel this place is worth a shot. read more

We checked in yesterday Afternoon on our trip up the coast. We almost stayed in eureka but decided to drive a bit further north. We used the tripadvisor app to find this place and liked the reviews. We were immediately greeted but a nice guy. With tax the room came to $158, room 320. The hotel looks new and the room was very clean and tidy. The room and bathroom are very spacious. We had a slight problem with the tv, had to pull the plug and reset if a few times. The breakfast which was included was nice, eggs, bacon, potatoes, muffins, bagels, toast, oatmeal, waffles, etc. There is 24 coffee available too. This would have been a 5 star review, except for the very rude, inhospitable reception upon our arrival. 30 years of traveling for business and I have never even heard of anything like our experience yesterday. We walked in the front door just before 5 pm, gave the very nice gentleman at the front desk my name when an obnoxiously loud woman from behind the desk spoke up and interjected "well its a good thing you're here; I almost canceled your reservation!" Taken a back at the abruptness of this intrusion I was able to ask "why?" to which she spouted off some term indicating that my credit card had not gone through. I explained that the other party with me was paying for their own room and that I had used a credit card to hold the rooms only when I'd made the reservation the previous month, and that I was using a different card to pay for the room. She continued again, loudly, which was quite humiliating, stating "No, I have to have a valud card to cover two nights, including tax." I quickly gave her my card because she clearly was going to continue announcing this until she had payment. It was a terrible experience. I was stunned. In retrospect, I should have walked out the door. And if I had, I would have missed a great hotel. It's very nice, clean and every other person I've interacted with has been exceptionally pleasant and professional. The management needs to consider retraining this one person, or offer her the door. She is a terrible representative for a fantastic hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the breakfast is superior. In addition to the usual continental breakfast offerings, they had make your own waffles, as well as scrambled eggs, freshly sliced fruit, biscuits with sausage gravy and roasted red skin potatoes. You will find the price higher at this hotel than any other that I know of in Arcata, but if you can afford it, I highly recommend it. Just don't use a credit card that you've recently run up the balance on, because you do not want a run in with this horrible woman...it can ruin your night's sleep. read more

When visiting Arcata or dropping off a kid to college at HSU... This place is the definitely place to stay! Guest services from the front desk to housekeeping was excellent and they were able to answer anything we needed. Free breakfast.. Who can complain?! It was more than what we expected since we were used to getting the continental breakfasts in the larger cities if they offered it. So seeing eggs, waffles and potatoes with your choices of different cereals, fruit, coffee and juices... Sold me! Room was very spacious and clean. And the beds were especially comfy! So comfy that me and in the mister couldn't help ourselves so we slept in separate beds the whole week we stayed since out room had two queen beds.. The staff was very nice which is why it got 2 stars. When we got there, the room wasn't finished, no shower curtain and the trash can was sitting on the toilet. The "green" elements were more a pain in the neck than helping the environment. For example, the fan in the AC/heater would not stay on. We use that white noise to drown out all the other hotel noise, other people, elevator, etc. the only way it would stay on was to turn it down to 65. That sure saved a lot of electric (Sarcasm intended!), at least the comforters were warm. We also used a coupon we got at another Hampton Inn because that was simply a disaster (different review). They still charged our account and didn't refund the charge for a week. Sadly, I don't think I will ever darken the door of a Hampton Inn again. If you have to change your reservation do not stay here. We had to change our trip due to Covid 19 and called the hotel to cancel the day before. The lady at the front desk said no problem and our mistake was not getting her name. She did not cancel the room and we were charged. We spoke with the manager and she said it was our fault for not getting the workers name and eventually just hung up on us. After filing a claim with Hilton and sending an email to the hotel they are still not willing to do anything. Terrible customer service!!!! read more

The general manager lady name J or something is horrible. Doesn't respect the Hilton Honors program and runs the place completely contrary to what the honors program advertises. We stayed here recently while visiting the Redwood National Park. It's located north of Eureka and close enough for us to drive to the south entrance of the park, via the Orick visitor center. Hampton Inn is nice although this hotel didn't give us the 2 free water bottles that I usually get whenever I check into any Hilton hotel. How bizarre and rather disappointing. The breakfast was decent in the morning and we made our way back to Napa after our 1 night stay. This hotel is also close to Humboldt and we saw many "parents" in the lounge, prolly visiting their kids during the holidays. read more

The consistency of the Hilton brand continues... Clean and well maintained facility. Helpful, friendly staff who go above and beyond to ensure their guests are satisfied. Rooms are clean. What I found most interesting about this location was their attention to the details of their emergency preparedness... Each stairwell landing, above the ground floor, has a "place of refuge" with a phone; and exit signs are installed both above and at the floor level of the emergency exits. It's great to see a company so committed to its emergency planning and preparedness. This is an easy place to find, if you're coming down Highway 299 from Weaverville. Just follow the Gunitoli Exit from 299 straight ahead, and it's right before the junction with Highway 101. That means that this is probably easy to find from Highway 101 too (just suspecting). It's just north of Arcata. We went down there to hear some great music at Humboldt State University, and we decided not to camp, since it was clear and VERY cold last night. Anyhoo, I just stayed at a Hampton Inn over in Red Bluff the night before, so I'm primed to compare. First of all, the windows open for fresh air, and I was on the south side, which looks out over what looks like new townhouse apartments. I felt kinda sorry for these folks, since they can probably see nekkid people walking around in these rooms. Too bad, so sad!! It was quite, not looking out over freeways or railroad tracks or anything like that. The facility is clearly fairly new. Clean, WiFi, big screen LDTV, fluffy bedding. Didn't like the pillows. Obviously standard throughout the chain in N. CA. Walls thin, once again. Fortunately, the folks next door were asleep when we got back to the room, but they got up before us. I'm really good at ignoring that sort of stuff.....I've had kids. I can ignore anything I chose to. Convenient to Humbold State U and Arcata, as well as the redwoods and coast to the north. Parking lot filled up and there were obviously a lot of people there on business expense accounts. We asked for the 'government rate' (my better half works for the feds) and they didn't blink. It only cost us $83, which is WAY cheaper than the cheap stuff nextdoor. And feels way safer and cleaner. And was actually cheaper than my previous day's stay at the Hampton Inns in Red Bluff. Of course, he actually had 'proof'. But I suspect that room prices are negotiable. Of course, we were there to pick up a room by 6:30 PM, so that may give more flexibility than at 9:30 PM (as per my experience in Red Bluff). I figure that this was a better place for us than Eureka. The places down there are pricier, and not any more comfortable. read more
