Very lovely hotel, in a very lovely place. Pool was quite good, top notch amazing. And its not so cold that it freezes of your limbs! But if you get tired you can lounge in the chairs beside the pool looking out into the open just enjoying your good ol life.or not your choice. But also if you are a lucky little human being, you may be able to experience the great joys and wonders of popcorn and cookies in the lobby! It was a wonderful sight. That staff was very lovely and nice to do that, but it can turn that frown upside down! Room was also good with not one but two, Yes TWO double beds! Two! My friends and I were needing a last minute room yesterday evening, and the front desk lady was the most helpful! She was able to get us a room despite it being very late, and she made the entire process very easy! She also encouraged us to become Hampton honors members and that also got us a bit of a discount on the stay. First and foremost parking is horrible!!! I literally circled around the block several times before I realized you can park in the parking garage for a small little fortune. After finding my parking spot on the second floor I lug'd all my bags down the stairs to the entrance, whoa what a relief I made it. I needed the exercise but Damm. The hotel receptionnist was nice my room was upgraded apparently mine which I booked well in advance wasn't available but I wasn't going to complain about the upgrade. When he said upgrade I was expecting a room with a greatview and a bathroom with the double head shower but no it was jus plain Jane. My day wasn't bad I left my car parked and ventured out on foot. Lots of little shops all around, great place to get your steps in. The night was rough I don't think my thermostat was working properly, and I kept having to kill mosquitoes. When I tried to sleep it was so hot in my room my short dreams had me thinking I was at the gym in the sauna but I refused to uncover myself cas the mosquitoes were eating me alive. Overall it wasn't a bad place I say give it a try. read more

Great location near all the action on King Street. Air conditioning works very well for a hotel--I like it very cold. It never got very cold, but I was never hot. Room was clean, however, I had to kill a sizeable cockroach in the bathroom the second night. The bad: constant stomping. It sounded like it was coming from above, but it isn't possible for these small rooms to have the number of people in it required to generate the horrendous stomping that was constant. Loud. Lobby area with ample seating, availability of drinking water, and the free breakfast were the only saving grace aspects of staying here. Recpetion and check-in were uneventful, not rude or friendly. The parking lot and drop off areas are difficult to identify and get in and out of. Im not sure if it was just my room in particular, but it was run down, furniture was beat up and damaged, stray hairs were on the shower walls, the walls themselves were scuffed, poorly patched, spots of unidentified splatter, overall in borderline rancid condition throughout. Definitely not on par with other lodging options at the same nightly rate. The area is not the safest with a rowdy bus stop across the street. I ended up moving to a quaint, small business boutique inn for the same nightly rate, and the experience was night and day better. You're definitely better off staying anywhere else at least a couple blocks south, and would get a better experience. read more

This was a great hotel in a great location! We were in walking distance or a short Uber ride to everywhere we wanted to go. Absolutely loved the coffee and tea that was always available in the lobby! The lobby had lots of seating available inside. There was also tables, chairs and benches available outside. If you are traveling with a dog this is a great choice! There was a great fenced courtyard with plenty of grassy areas for pet relief. Our room was clean. And we also appreciated the "puppy at play" door hanger we were provided to hang on our door to let staff know that our pup was in the room. Parking was easy in the parking garage next to the hotel. The only downside would be that there was no refrigerator in the room. read more

Our 2nd time staying here and this will be our go to hotel when we're in Charleston. First I have to say what an amazing employee they have in Louise at the front desk. She was so helpful and accommodating. Our room was perfect. Very clean and the bed was so comfortable as well as the pillows. We slept so soundly. The location is fantastic and right across the street you can catch the green free shuttle bus. Grounds maintained beautifully. Breakfast was pretty good for being free. Eggs sausage and grits first day, cheese omelette bacon and oatmeal on 2nd day. They also had on both days waffle mix, assorted cereals, instant oatmeals, plenty of different fresh fruits, bagels, toast, yogurt and I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot. The only cons I noticed are some wear and tear on carpet in common areas and they don't offer much of snacks in the vending machines if you're hungry after hours. An area with premade sandwiches or microwaveable foods would be a nice touch. read more

Our stay at this hotel was really nice. Chantal was very welcoming at the front desk. This hotel is very big and so are the rooms. It was very clean and I really had no complaints. Usually Hampton Inns have a much more interesting breakfast but because of covid they are not able to. I really like Otis Spunkmeyer muffins so that was a good thing that they had so many different varieties. Their coffee is good and they gave us a couple of bottled waters at check-in. This location is right by the trolley stop which is very convenient. The trolley takes you everywhere downtown. Even if you missed the trolley, you can walk very easily to downtown. This Hampton Inn is in the historic section of Charleston and it has a really nice feel to it. I think parking was $25 a night. There is no getting out of the fee. My daughter is a silver Hilton Honors member and that did not do anything. But it is okay. There is a lot of high priced parking in the area so at least our car was safe. Been coming to this location for about 10 years for my annual girls trip with my daughter. Very bothered by the amount of homeless people that run in during the morning breakfast grab a plate of food and run out. to put locks on the doors or something paid extra this time for a courtyard hotel room while I sit outside enjoying the evening another homeless woman ride's through the lobby on a bicycle turns left in the courtyard to run out on the bicycle through the gate. Needless to say a gate was locked. She panicked dropped the bicycle and ran through the lobby. They need better control of who can come in and out ! Very concerning. read more

I went to the wrong Hampton Inn, I traveled from Florence to celebrate with my son on his birthday. I came to the front desk at 5:45 on July 30th 2025. The attendants a male and a female were at the front desk, the male was helping another guest as the other was looking down at her computer, I stood there for a few minutes and she did not acknowledge me, another guest stepped in, she helped him immediately, and began to look down at her computer for about another minute and then she asked could she help me. I went to the counter and found out I was at the wrong hotel, I asked her to change the reservation to this hotel. As she began to change the hotel, I did not appreciate the attitude as though I could not afford or was not good enough to stay there at this hotel. So my reservation was in West Ashley, she told me she lived in West Ashley, I told her I would go to West Ashley, she said it would be cheaper. I never asked about a rate. The moral of this story is don't a book by its cover, treat all guest the same regardless of race color or creed. I did not receive the expected service being a Hilton Honors member for over 20 yrs, I felt snubbed. I am African American Pastor who felt not welcomed or wanted. The location is fantastic, and the staff is wonderful, but the rooms are dark, dated, and damp. As soon as I opened the door, I smelled something akin to sweaty gym socks. The carpet tiles were damp with crushed Cheez-Its that were never vacuumed. The TV was unplugged which led to me finding a lone DampRid hiding behind the credenza that didn't stand a chance. The furniture is heavy, dark, and dated - like from the 90s - and overall, pretty depressing. It's time for a refresh for sure. read more

Although the hotel is in a good location, they overcharge you with fees. I don't agree Hampton charges a mandatory CVB destination and marketing fee(+ tax on the fee) that goes to the non-profit/non-governmental Charleston Visitor Bureau to promote the city of Charleston and that the hotel voluntary participates in but yet, they list it on the Hampton website as a mandatory fee. This city already has high lodging taxes (14%+) and now they try to screw you with additional fees. I complained to the front desk and to the onsite General Manager since according to a google search this fee is not a tax and cannot be legally imposed and they removed a parking fee to offset the charge. Additionally, they charge you to park at the hotel $25 a day, but their own parking garage states a daily maximum of $18, and they pocket the rest. I recommend you boycott this hotel, until they change their policies. read more

The employees at the Hampton Inn were wonderful, and the location of the hotel was great, and the parking was good and the complementary breakfast was good. The facility not so much. it is an old warehouse, and is in desperate need of a remodel. The wallpaper was peeling off of our bathroom walls, not from vandalism, but from age, the potty was about 15 inches off the floor, and because my husband takes insulin, it was difficult to keep his insulin cold without a refrigerator in the room. The mattresses were pretty worn. finally arrived on a chilly night. The heater would not come on in our room however they did send a person and fix it immediately. Also, the ice machine on the first floor was out of order making it necessary to go up to the second floor to get ice. It was not horrible, and as I mentioned, the personnel was wonderful, but before I booked it again, I would ask more questions. read more

I think Hilton has completely lost control of their brand. Either that or they're just throwing in the towel. You're letting your management companies run these properties like slums. I'm lifetime Diamond of a company without properties worth staying at now. This brand just keeps declining. This property is dilapidated. The bathroom paint was failing. The colors dated dirty and depressing. The picture in the bedroom was missing but the hangars were still on the wall. The carpets, bedding and furniture need updating. The staff is ok. Barely. You should be able to provide your guests with change for the bus. Provide a minimum of service ok? We used to stay at the Doubletree here. It's gone. Sold and now something else? Just another city without a nice Hilton property. The standards are low and getting lower. read more

The location is great, and the staff is exceptional! Bottom line, though, this is an old property that is in serious need of updates. We're generally Hilton brand people. When we decided to come to Charleston, the other properties downtown had complaints of old facilities, musty smell, and some other things. The Hampton Inn seemed to be the best of them all. I can't imagine it's much different, though. There was an overwhelming must smell when we walked in the room. After driving 10 hours, we just decided to deal with it. It's just old - doors squeak, toilet is loud, smelly, refrigerator knocks, you can hear everything from the floor above (ALL NIGHT). If you don't mind older properties in great locations, this is the place for you! read more

The hotel is easy to find and has a large (paid) parking deck so if you have a car it is helpful to have easy access to your vehicle. Check in was easy and then man at the counter was very nice and friendly. Unfortunely when we got into our room there were blowers all around the hallway and our room was insanely hot and when we tried to adjust the air conditioner nothing happened. We asked for a new room and got one with an AC that was working. We were also told that the blowers were on each floor because during the most recent hurricane the roof was blown off and they now no longer have a top floor. Otherwise the room was fine but not the greatest. The best thing about this hotel is the location. We were able to walk to everything. read more

We stayed here for a night while visiting the area in late September. The address for the hotel is on Meeting Street, unfortunately you cannot access the facility from Meeting Street. You need to drive over to John Street where the entrance and lobby are located. In addition, you can only park there briefly to check in, you will then need to drive to the parking garage off John Street to unload. For parking, unless you can find something else, you will need to park in the parking garage next door. It costs hotel guest $20 per day which we thought was very reasonable for the area. The lobby looked very warm and welcoming, kind of what we would expect for a southern sitting area. Our room had the AC set just right when we walked in which was appreciated. We're not used to the humidity and it felt really good. The room included a refrigerator but no microwave which was perfect for us to keep drinks cold. The facility also has a pool which we did not use but likely would have if we were there longer. We were happy with the overall location and it was nice to keep the car parked and explore the area. One thing we noticed was one of the 12 by 12 tiles in the bathroom was loose and could use some repair or flooring replacement. Overall it was a great experience in a beautiful city! read more

Booked this hotel at the very last minute and so glad we did. Not knowing anything about the Charleston area, we were taking a gamble where it would be a good location. Booking.com reviews said location was 9.0 and that was spot on. Check in was a breeze. We parked the car in the car immediately next door. And within minutes was in our room. 2 queen beds and room was plenty big. While I had all my toiletries with me they offer a complimentary service that they will bring you any toiletry you need toothbrush toothpaste anything you forgot. I thought that was a nice touch. You are a few second walk from the main strip of shopping and restaurants. Ideal location. Highly recommend and will return to stay here. read more

We had such a wonderful stay!!!!! We were able to check in at 11!!!!!! This was probably due to Covid and facility not operating at full capacity. But, Chanel, was so polite, professional and kind. She gave us a room on the patio by the pool. This was perfect so our boys could swim while my hubby and I enjoyed a drink right by our room. They have a parking garage and I believe it was $20/night. It was convenient as it is right at facility. Hotel is within walking distance of Marion Square. However the market was a bit more of a walk. Be sure to look at the map before booking to ensure you are close to where you anticipate going. Breakfast is included but ends at 9, sharp. As we learned. Considering they were serving a minimal menu I thought it was odd the staff member the next day didn't at least offer a granola bar when we arrived at 9:03. If Chanel was there I know she would have accommodated us. All in all the hotel was clean, we felt safe and we had a nice stay. read more

Smells like death in this hotel - if you know, You know. It's that odor of mist/mildew from carpets saturated in bodily fluid, then cleaner and left wet. And "historic" is being played to cover up old and not maintained. The elevator on the left button 1 does not work, door sticks - it's the stuff horror movies are made of. My sink didn't drain, the bathtub leaked onto the floor (exacerbating the mold smell). Fitness room was nice, breakfast sides like muffins they unpackaged (during outbreak #2??!) I visit the area often, and have stayed at nearly every hotel, this one was on my list to try - never again. The lure of downtown is pointless, all of the shops closed by 6 PM, leaving behind only bars, drunk people, transients and you - if you ignore this review. This review is not about the hotel. It is about the staff. Most specifically it is about John, Kyle and Safe of The Hampton Inn in Charleston S.C. On the morning of Nov 10th, 2022 we checked out of the Hampton Inn in Charleston for a four hour drive to Fayetteville S.C. as planned. After a two and a half hour drive, we stopped for gasoline, turned the car off and put it into park. When ready to go, we could not start the car. Why? The air tag on the key chain told us the key fob was in north Charleston. Panicked, we called the HIC thinking perhaps the Valet somehow had the key fob or maybe misplaced it? We didn't know. That was the only place we thought to start. John of the HIC drove to the address on the air tag and looked for the key fob. No luck. We contacted AAA, BMW roadside service and the police who were on site for something else. The police offered no assistance. AAA and BMW offered to send a tow truck only. Tow to where? What happens to us? We are not young. Now the tropical storm had come our way and it was getting dark and raining very hard. The gas station would close in a couple of hours. We were entirely alone with no help. No lunch. No dinner. In a strange town, in a tropical storm with little cell phone power left. Hampton Inn had no obligation to us what so ever. Once Kyle and Safe understood the gravity of the situation they began googling for us the closest BMW dealer to our location. Kyle called the dealer and asked what tow company they use. Kyle called the tow company and asked for a truck to pick us up and take us to shelter. Kyle called us and gave us the names and contact information of the hotels nearest to us. Kyle gave us his cell phone number. He stayed in touch with us via text or phone not only until we were safely in a hotel that night but for several days until we reached our home in Maryland. Please know that John, Kyle and Safe did not have to do any of this. They could have turned a blind eye along with the police, AAA and BMW. They didn't. We are honored, in a strange way, to have had this crisis. With out it we would not have interacted with John, Kyle and Safe nor with the tow truck driver and a driver of a snowbird rig that pulled in for gas. Remember the car was in park- that is, the wheels were locked- absolutely frozen. The car would not budge. The driver of the rig voluntarily helped the tow truck driver by pushing the car onto the truck. Both saturated with the pouring rain. This ordeal took nine hours in a strange land with only the voices of Hampton Inn employees staying on the line with us. A planned four hour drive tuned into nearly fourteen hours nine of which were in a gas station during a tropical storm without the ability to start our car. Please give a shout out to John, Kyle and Safe if you check into the Hampton Inn in Charleston and don't take these employees for granted. They walk the talk. Cannot say the same for AAA, BMW roadside service nor the police. Without Kyle and Safe, I'm honestly not so sure we would be alive today. We are old and were in a very difficult neighborhood. Remember this internet thing is not second nature for those in the grandparent and great grandparent stage of life. Many thanks John, Kyle and Safe. You are indeed our heroes! Stayed here because I was in town for a conference and the conference hotel had already filled up by the time I went to register so I went for this one instead. The room is decently sized, clean, and has good wi-fi reception. There are plenty of toiletries and nice, soft towels. The breakfast downstairs is also good. My main issue is that, well, for two hundred dollars a night a room should have a mini-fridge on general principle. Likewise, it'd have been nice to have parking that wasn't extra on top of the price of the room. Nice place to stay, but I'd prefer a bit more for the price. read more

Hotel rooms are very outdated and run down. We had black hairs in the bathroom upon check in (I'm blonde) and only one roll of toilet paper for 3 days. There is no housekeeping service but they leave an envelope for housekeeping tips? Hotel breakfast was fine for what you'd expect at a hotel breakfast and staff in the lobby were friendly. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to bars and restaurants on King Street. The parking garage is right next to the hotel, though it costs $18 a day. I loved that they have a gated-in grass courtyard to take dogs out. They also provide doggie bags for easy cleanup and a treats when you check in. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a little outdated but spacious. Definitely not getting the latest technology in the room like Netflix, Keurig coffee maker, etc. If you're looking for a nice place to stay that is pet-friendly and downtown, I would recommend this place. read more

The best thing I can say about the hotel was the location and that's the only reason I gave it three stars. We were coming into the city as tourists for 2 nights. A lot of the other hotels were quite a bit pricier than this one and we usually have such great stays at Hampton Inns so we went with this hotel. It is directly across the street from the city's visitor center so all the buses and shuttles are right there; this is the only plus. We arrived late in the dark and it was raining and our car wouldn't fit in the adjacent parking garage because we had a height restriction. They wouldn't allow us to park the car in the five spots they own and said we'd get towed so we spent about 20 minutes driving around looking for the parking lot the desk attendant directed us to, very badly might I add. Then when we get up to the room we needed to use the pull out couch. But alas, there were no sheets, blankets, or extra pillows anywhere in the room. Then it took them over an hour to get someone to the room with a set of sheets. I was so tired I just threw them on the bed and ended up freezing all night. The room and the hotel are dilapidated and in serious need of renovation. The carpets are worn, the fixtures are rusty and leaked, the elevators were strangely not air conditioned and boiling hot. You could also see the elevator shaft through grates at the floor. I meant to take video of it but never got the chance. For the amount of money they're making off this hotel they could totally afford to gut the place and redo the interior. read more

We spent 4 nights here which comprised the first half of our Charleston vacation. We chose this hotel because of the price and the close proximity to the tourist areas. Everything was in walking distance and we didn't need to rent a car for the time we were there. The Hotel itself was clean and we had no complaints. A big plus was the included breakfast which had lots of good options and plenty of seating available. The times offered for breakfast (7-10) made it very convenient. We didn't interact with many arras members, but the ones we did were courteous. The only negatives were the rooms not having mini refrigerators (at least ours didn't), and the bathroom had no exhaust fan. After a shower it was very humid and took forever for the mirror to clear up. Overall a good experience and I would stay here again. read more

Location. Location. Location. This hotel is in the heart of downtown right off of King Street. We chose this place because of the location but also because it's a pet friendly hotel. Ms. Tiffany was a delight to work with when we checked in. She made sure we were all set and good to go. She even had a treat bag for our dog. She informed us of all amenities and local places that allowed dogs. The hotel itself is pretty old. Beds are super comfortable. Our AC wasn't working when we arrived but they were able to send maintenance to fix it right away. Richard was super helpful. He knew right away what was wrong, fixed it, made sure it worked and offered us a fan to help circulate the air until the AC cooled down the room. Service was great. Parking is in the garage and they charge $25/24 hours. Complementary breakfast - waffles; continental breakfast; eggs and sausage; oatmeal and cereal; fruit. Excellent hotel on the edge of the historic district. It is a long walk to the restaurants, but it will help you feel less guilty from all the eating you'll do. It's only 15 minutes to the Aquarium and Ft. Sumter tour, both of which I would recommend. The hotel has a great old south feel, along with a courtyard you can eat your breakfast in if the weather is nice. Pretty decent breakfast, considering the COVID restrictions. Service is great, both at the front desk, and among the cleaning staff. The price is reasonable, but less so when you consider that the parking garage is $25 a day. Overall I would stay again, but try to figure out an alternative for parking. read more
