Pretty cool, they check you in with one of their specialty drinks.... Awesome cornbread muffins are always there for you to snack on. The bar is right next to the lobby. I guess the bar is famous for the espresso martinis. It's a super small, 43 or 47 room hotel? They put your car on a stacker in the garage. looks old on the outside but was completely rebuilt five or 10 years ago? I like that everything is new. The building is very narrow and consequently, the rooms are narrow, but really nice. See my photos. If you like boutique hotels, you will love this one. This is the cutest boutique hotel I've ever stayed in. It's absolutely charming. I'm a small town girl at heart and I needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of the DMV area for a few days and this was the perfect getaway. It's small yet not too small. Upon walking in I kind of gave my husband a look like what is this place. Honestly it was like walking into someone's home with a reception desk and a bar of that makes sense... LOL! I had no idea what to expect of the rooms. Honestly, we booked this place last minute so I briefly reviewed the pictures and reviews but was just ready to get away. BUT when we got to the room, after self parking at the public garage behind the hotel, we opened the door to the cutest little room. It was sized as if it was in New York City but had cute boho chic charm. It's perfectly located in the middle of everything and the walkability was what we enjoyed most. We walked to all of the best restaurants and shops once we parked, we only left the a garage once the entire time there. We loved the daily breakfast and were intentional about making it downstairs for it. The grits were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and once topped with the shredded cheese and fresh cracked pepper, I couldn't get enough! The pastries and biscuits were also very good. The biscuits and pastries tasted like someone's grandma made them. I know this review is long, so I'll stop now even though I could say so much more. We'll definitely return because I failed to try their espresso martini and they boast to have the best. Note: There's a valet option but the self parking seemed easier. This turned out to be a really nice stop for after dinner. We didn't eat anything (and honestly I'm not even sure if they serve food), but the drinks were great. I ordered an espresso martini and it was one of the best I've ever had. It had chocolate shavings on top and some kind of foam layer that made it feel a little more elevated than your typical version. We sat at the bar and ended up chatting with a few other people -- everyone was really friendly, which made the experience even better. There was only one bartender working, but since it's a smaller space, it worked just fine. My only small complaint is that my husband wasn't drinking, and the bartender didn't offer water or anything non-alcoholic. Not a huge deal, but something worth mentioning. Overall, it's a very cute little bar and definitely worth stopping by -- especially to try the espresso martini. read more

The decor is beautiful, the lobby functional and warm, the breakfast and beverage service a great touch. Although we didn't visit the bar it had a good amount of people at it when we passed by. The service from staff and comforts the room offered made our short stay in Charleston perfect. This boutique hotel was was in the heart of all the action of downtown Charleston. I enjoyed the location much more than other hotels I was looking at. This was just a few blocks walk to the pineapple fountain, rainbow row, the battery, king street, and Charleston city market. I only ubered once on my whole trip. The people working there were very kind, welcoming, and hospitable. The hotel also provided breakfast which was shockingly good for a hotel that doesn't have a kitchen. The pop tarts in the morning were amazing. At night, the lobby turns to one of the hot spot bars. Even the locals were telling us that they had the best espresso martini. The only downfall to this hotel was that you just get your room and that's it. There really isn't any other amenities. They claim to have gym access, but it's a 10 minute uber ride away. As I said before, they also don't have a kitchen, so there really isn't any food option, but the hotel is surrounded by hot spot restaurants like magnolias, Carmella's, and SNOB. I would definitely stay here again. The room was small, but comfortable, clean, QUIET, and had a great view on the 5th floor. I just wish there was a little bit more in the way of amenities. read more

Came here after searching for some cocktail bars on Thanksgiving night and this came up with a lot of references to their famous espresso martini. They had a pumpkin spice martini as a special that day so we got one of each. The espresso martini here is indeed one of the best I have had but the pumpkin spice was on another level. After we sat, there were at least 10 people who ordered the same and everyone was raving about how good the martinis were. We got another round of the pumpkin spice martini and as luck would have it, the bartender only had enough ingredients to make two of those - apologies to the other patrons who came after and asked for the pumpkin spice and couldn't have it. Very charming hotel. Wonderful location. Staff were great... BUT OMG!! We had a room on second floor and we had friends who had a room across from us. None of us got 8 hours of sleep because every late night or early early morning was loud noises. Drunk people late at night. And restaurants deliveries, garbage trucks, landscapers, construction by 4am every mornings. Just listening to the motors running. Didn't matter which side of the hotel you were on it was loud. My boyfriend took me to Charleston to show me his old stomping grounds of his college town. I ended up booking us at the Palmetto because it seemed well located and updated. As it was my first time in the city as well as at this hotel, the hotel staff were incredibly warm, friendly and efficient in checking us in and giving us recommendations of things to do as they handed us our welcome cocktails. When it came to our room itself, it was gorgeous. The decor and the furniture gave off an aura that this was more of an experience than just a regular hotel stay. The whole hotel from what we experienced (including the public bathrooms down in the lobby) was especially clean and luxurious for the price we paid. There was an ease with handling our car with the valet attendants. In the morning, there was a complimentary breakfast spread that was enjoyed and appreciated by the two of us as we had a long day ahead of us. From start to finish, our time and experience at this hotel was unmatched to any other place I've stayed. I will definitely return if I ever can make it back to Charleston from California. read more

I didn't stay at the Palmetto Hotel, but boy I wish I had. What a gorgeous hotel in the heart of Charleston! As such, my review is focused solely on the hotel lobby bar. After dinner, our trio stopped by for cocktails. I ordered the Queen of King cocktail, which was gin-based with cava, rosemary-lavender butterfly pea syrup, and citrus. At $16, it wasn't the cheapest option, but it was on par with Charleston prices. The drink was smooth and well-made. Just all-around delightful. Our bartender was exceptionally friendly, though sadly I don't recall her name. I would absolutely stop back if in the Charleston area sometime. read more

My friend and I stopped by the hotel lobby to grab drinks. The vibes were really nice! There were tons of people at the bar, hoping to try the espresso martinis, but only one bartender. She was working miracles, whipping up drinks like crazy. I could see this being a nice spot to start or end the night, maybe even for a date. Most people were fairly dressed up, so I'd consider it a bit more on the upscale side. I recommend for a nicer drinks spot! read more

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Palmetto. Our bed was very comfortable with just the right firmness (slightly firm) and feather pillows. The shower is great, with multiple shower heads to wash you from all angles if you wish and plush bath robes for afterwards. It was nice to have a Nespresso machine for fresh coffee (though no decaf) and the turn down service was a bonus with nice chocolates, a refill of our water and extra coffee and towel service if you want it. Breakfast is only improvement I would like to see, including better coffee, decaf tea and a bit more choice of food such as some gluten free items like granola. I went to a local coffee shop everyday to get decaf tea and gluten free overnight oats or breakfast bars. The location is perfect for visiting some of the top restaurants, historical houses, and the shopping in the French Quarter and on King Street. read more

Spectacular pristine design when you walk in/ actually breathtaking. A stunning bar. Even the elevator hallway and lobby bathroom are just a feast for the eyes. Our room felt like we were plopped into a Parisian apartment with the French double doors leading onto a mini balcony to boot ! It's obvious with the design and aesthetics - no expense has been spared. Even the toiletries and products in the room = top notch!! Now down to the brass tacks... you can feel it's privately owned ... the staff struggle a bit ... it's like a slightly too casual / dismissive vibe. We went to check-in and get early check in if available- she clarified that she was waiting for our room upgrade to get cleaned up so that was helpful. Then I saw some cocktails at the front desk and asked if we could have one while we waited. She said unfortunately no- she can't offer it until it shows us as checked in on the computer as they track it accordingly, Oookkaayyy weird. 10 minutes later she said ok she was now allowed according the computer check in process. At night we were supposed to receive turn down service wirh some chocolate and water, didn't happen. Next day our room wasn't cleaned (and we were blamed as putting up our sign even tho I had removed it entirely and placed it inside the room), so later it was haphazardly made up plus turndown service happened... a gorgeous tiled shower was already showing major signs of wear and tear despite the property being pretty new- wirh the door hinges slightly off- this water getting out of the shower , the shower jets panel being improperly installed due to the exposed holes in the beautiful tile - and jets hitting the wrong place- and also be prepared the building is NOT soundproof. You can hear your neighbors going potty ! Most frustrating is we get a $100 property credit but there was only alcohol to spend it on. No food / no in room pampering / etc. The daily breakfast isn't exactly an upgrade as it's a charming but a generic offer to the entire hotel. So if you're hoping your Amex benefits will get you the perks they usually do- really the best one here is the room upgrade. Otherwise not much. I appreciated that after we filled out the post stay survey the manager reached out and emailed that they'd send the notes up the appropriate chains. We'd consider coming back given the design and location- but would ask for a top floor room! read more

May 24-26,2023 Found this hotel after much research last minute and what sold me was it was brand new. Who doesn't love fresh everything especially the beds. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised that the valet was directly placed out front and someone came out immediately to assist with our bags and take the car from us. We were assured if anything was needed during our stay from the car that we would have access as it would be parked out back. Luckily we never needed to use the car again as this hotel is centrally located and you can walk to everything. So hubby and I go to the desk to check in. I appreciate they want to see my license and credit card which is a great safety feature. Also we are offered a welcome drink I can't remember the name but it was red and sweet served in a small vintage glass. We made our way to the elevator and to our room on the third floor. I was appreciative that the room was far from the elevator as we wouldn't hear any noise. As for the room it was decorated to compliment the entire hotel in a vintage green. I don't know the exact name for it but it was beautiful. Loved the bedding and even looked for the tags to replicate at home. The shower system was great and hubby loved the water pressure. The robes were to die for probably the softest I ever had. I would have bought one if it wasn't that I already have a half dozen robes already at home. They also have a Nespresso system in room if you are into that. Unfortunately we are not. In the morning they serve hot tea, coffee and baked goods for breakfast. So nice that this was included I particularly loved the biscuits and so did everyone else as they quickly disappeared. The second day unfortunately there was none. Also I asked for lemon for my tea as none was out but so delighted they were able to accommodate me. During our stay we did go to the bar in the lobby. Due to the size of the entire place the bar offerings were limited. Although I was happy to get Frangelica as a nightcap there was no fireball which truly is very popular. No edibles other than nuts. I am sure it is because they have a limited back of house and are limited. On our last night I ordered a Tom Collins but I think the lady behind the bar didn't know how to make it so improvised which was a fail. Prices of everything were market rate for room and services ie parking $55.00 a night. Note we stayed midweek so rates were slightly less on Wednesday and went up on Thursday. We would have stayed longer but the weather took a turn for the worse. read more

I took my first trip by myself from California to Charleston. The hotel is lovely but I was extremely disappointed upon arrival. I am a person that tries to plan things out well before I go somewhere. I have a puppy that is too young to board. When I called their hotel I was told it is pet friendly. I got my dog a health certificate and plane tickets to fly with me. However, I was told he could not be left alone at all even in a kennel. This makes for an extremely challenging trip as most places would not let me go in with a dog. Fortunately my taxi driver's 16 yr old daughter babysat my dog but the hotel still kept the pet fee and deposit despite that he did not stay at the hotel. The hotel is beautiful, nice room, great balcony and a bar inside the hotel and breakfast included. I just was really disappointed about their pet policy and lack of refunding. read more

My husband and I went on a babymoon to Charleston and were looking to treat ourselves to a luxury experience. We usually don't spend this much ($400+ per night) on hotels, and we had high expectations. The first ding is related to communication, even before we checked in. We booked the hotel, breathed a sigh of relief that we made a decision and finalized logistics, then went about our lives. The night before our trip, we were looking for the confirmation email and panicked when we realized that we never got one. This left us wondering: did we actually make a reservation? We called the hotel that night and no one picked up. It was late (around 11pm) but I think I read that there was 24/7 lobby reception. We tried again the next morning (on our way to Charleston) and they confirmed that we had a reservation. They resent the confirmation, but we never got anything. A few days before that, I also emailed the hotel telling them that we were celebrating our babymoon and asked for some local recommendations based on what we were interested in. No response for a few days, so I followed up. Still no response to this day. Fast forward, we're finally checking in, and my husband asks if they've been having trouble with their email. The front desk attendant said very casually that yeah, sometimes email is working, sometimes it isn't. I'd expect that if this were the case, they'd be trying to fix it and following up by phone to confirm reservations and field questions. During these phone conversations and when we checked in in person, I was surprised that the staff wasn't more friendly. I felt like I was inconveniencing them by calling. When we checked in, they didn't ask what brought us into town, what we were celebrating, how our day was going, where we were coming from, anything like that. I expect more from a Hampton Inn, tbh. We were offered a welcome cocktail, which was good according to my husband. Same disappointing communication each time we entered/exited. Just nothing to make us feel really welcome. Now onto the room. We booked a Deluxe King Balcony. Pros: Cute accents, comfy robes and slippers, big(ish) bathroom, great shower pressure, cute balcony, nice seating area, pretty quiet. Cons: Very small, limited storage for clothes and bags. The thing that perhaps surprised me the most was the lack of services and amenities for the price. No room service, no gym (or passes to local gyms), no information about the neighborhood, no evening reception, no coffee/tea in the lobby (except for during breakfast hours). They did have water and sweet tea throughout the day in the lobby though. No one told us anything about the ability to rent bikes, though we did see a hotel-branded bike on our last day. Not sure if that's available to guests -- no one mentioned it to us. We were also confused about housekeeping. Day 1 we went back to the room at around 1pm and housekeeping hadn't come by yet. Day 2 we went back to the room at around 3pm and they hadn't come by. They seemed to come around dinner time when doing the turndown service, but didn't remove or replace dirty glasses. Not sure what turndown service is supposed to entail, but on day 1, we got a card with the weather for the next day and a carafe of water. On day 2, we got the weather card but no water. On day 3, we got the weather card and a white chocolate, but no water. The one service that we enjoyed was breakfast, from 7-10am each morning. We liked the yogurt parfait and muffins. The spread also included scones, toaster pastries (similar to pop tarts), biscuits, apples and oranges, and grits with toppings (blueberries, strawberries, bacon bits, chives, and cheddar cheese). Beverages included drip coffee, tea, orange juice, and cranberry juice. Breakfast was served on the bar, and guests could spread out a bit in the lobby. The lobby itself was very beautiful, but small, and there no other common areas to relax. There were some repairs/updates being done in the lobby during our stay, which limited the space even more (but not during breakfast hours). Quick note on location: it's very centrally located. We were able to walk to most things we wanted to see. About 5 minutes to the market, and less than 5 minutes to the pier and pineapple fountain. Tip on parking: there's a garage about 500 feet behind the hotel. It's at 1 Cumberland Street: Overall, we had a good stay and it's a decent hotel, but for the price we paid, we expected a lot more in terms of service and amenities. It sort of just felt like a place for us to sleep. We were also hoping for some acknowledgement that we were celebrating something special, but unfortunately didn't get that. read more

I was absolutley amazed by the beauty and detail during my stay at The Palmetto Hotel. Check in was a breeze and we were welcomed with the most delicious cocktail. The lobby had the most amazing scent throughout. Our room was phenomenal. The temperature was perfect especially after coming in from muggy hot weather. The mattress and linens and pillows were so soft and I slept comfortably. The slippers and robes were the softest things ever. The bathroom amenities were well thought out and smelled amazing also. The night turn down was a nice added amenitie when we returned from dinner. We had a balcony room and the curtains kept the room dark and the room was very quiet. Breakfast was delicious! There's no local spots that opened early (most open 8/9am) so it was nice to be able to grab a little bite and walk The Battery before coming back and getting ready to start our day. The location of this hotel is perfect!! We literally parked our car in the parking garage and never used it again for 3 days (we utilized the parking garage directly behind hotel and after 3 days our total was $47). We walked everywhere! Stayed 12/17 - 19. Booked on line three Capital One. The room as OK, but had little room to spare. The bed was terribly too soft. Terrible nights rest. Bathroom good. Breakfast options were small but tasted excellent. The bar was a little under supported but the bartender did a superb job. Location was excellent. My beef is the $45/day parking rate. They charged me $55 and said the is for SUV I had. I have a small Lexus. This bothered and they were unwilling to assist. Too many great places to stay that will take care of You. read more
