Very nice dinner tonight at the Daniel Humm restaurant. Delicious food but the staff was the standout. Super attentive, engaging but not overbearing. The duck is a must. Truly a 3 Michelin star dish. Lobster main was cooked to perfection. Fried chicken was fine. Fun but not really a fine dining dish. Crudo was delicious but should be called tartare given its preparation. An amuse would be nice given the price point ($400 total for 2). read more

Beautiful place gave me respite after walking 2 miles up on King Street. I even used their clean restroom up the beautiful staircase. There is an inside sitting atrium as well' as an outdoor one. Thoroughbred bar was situated at the end bu the lobby and has friendly wait staff. Review is for Christmas decor viewing only. Meandered into the hotel once I saw how beautifully decorated the entrances were, a sneak peek of what was to come. There were at least 50 trees set up on the main level, plenty of photo opportunities. The lobby had a live harpist, display of a small town and train (perfect to capture the attention of both adults and kids alike), cute telephone booth to call Santa. Definitely make this a stop on your holiday decor walking tour. read more

This last visit changed my perspective on The Charleston Place and figured that saying it was the best of the best was entirely inaccurate. I was giving the benefit of the doubt due to the sincere apologies I received. I'm not quite feeling the genuineness now. While I still would say I has a good experience overall I can't say this property is the best of the best. Many of the aspects I stated before continue to hold true. It is a gorgeous hotel with fresh flowers and very comfortable bedding. I was a bit surprised because I was told the last time I would be upgraded due to an incident that had occurred. I had a room on the 6th floor which was very comfortable but was a bit lost on how it was an upgrade. It looked like every other room I had been in there with the exception of a tremendously deep bathtub. Same size, same features, no cute balcony, just a big tub. There didn't appear to be any actual upgrade. Since my colleague was only a few doors down and it was his first visit with no prior issues I began to wonder if they just say buzzwords like "premium" and "upgrade" to achieve complacency. They also said they put me on the quiet side but they placed me right across from an employee only area that they brought out carts of food for room service. Truthfully it was the loudest room I had been in at the property - the prior time I was near the elevators but people were quiet and the elevators barely made noise. In this room I could hear every cart, every squeaky door swing starting at 6:25 AM. It was far from quiet. Then there was the valet experience this time. The time before they warned that it would be 15 - 20 minutes to pull my car out of valet, and they stuck to it. The first day they told me 10 minutes and it took 15 minutes. That's fine, no biggie. The second morning they told me 15 minutes. 40 minutes past and I asked what the time frame was. I saw they only had one valet (which they do until 7 AM) and would not be told how many cars were ahead of me in the queue. Each car was taking ten minutes to retrieve. The front desk said that it would be 15 minutes to which I pointed out that's what was said 40 minutes ago. The lady simply repeated the line robotically. I grew anxious as I had a time commitment and disappearing window to make it in. Eventually the bellman went to retrieve my car after pressing on just enough data to see if I needed to get an Uber. They told me they would comp a night of valet for my inconvenience. They ended up not comping one night. After that I called an hour before needing my car which seemed to work. My colleagues who did not, routinely found the valet taking between 45 to 60 minutes in the morning every morning. As there's no conveniently accessible garages nearby this was an inconvenience. At checkout with no comped valet charge I was promised they had my file noted with this latest situation and would work out another way to make it up to me after the remodel. I would simply have to call and provide my name. Problem is out of my 3 visits I have yet to have a stay that did not involve some incident and I am uncertain if I am willing to provide a fourth chance. read more

This is not about the hotel. It's about the coffee shop in the lobby. It's a small coffee shop, and the guy running it the day I went in was named Alexey, and he's a very rude person serving very bad coffee. One hopes both the coffee and the staff can be improved. read more

This used to be our go to hotel in Charleston. Our last visit was sub-par on several levels. I left feedback expecting the courtesy of a reply, didn't get one - after a couple of tries I gave up. A late night fire alarm was the icing on the cake, our granddaughter injured herself as a result of a fire exit leading to a passage with construction... one us was glutened in one of their restaurants and the super expensive brunch just wasn't worth it. For what they charge, and based on previous experience, the stay should have been perfect. So disappointing! read more

3rd floor is currently being renovated (June 2026). M-F construction noise can be heard on 4th floor. Ask for a room on 5th or higher. But dog friendly rooms are on 4th floor. Food is great. Truly five star service in hotel. Pool is beautiful. Lobby is gorgeous. Renovated rooms are very nice. There is no dog sitting service even though they advertise that. If you bring your dogs and if they are "service" dogs then they can go in restaurants. One lady had little business cards for her "therapy " dog. read more

Snow, Christmas trees, the largest gingerbread house and did I mention snow. Looking for something free to do with the kids. Go and see the tree, watch the snow while sipping hot chocolate. You don't need a ticket just jump in line outside nearest the market entrance. After the snow show go inside and see the largest gingerbread house ever. My stay at The Charleston Place from April 1-5 was overshadowed by what I have every reason to believe was a bedbug issue--something no guest should ever encounter, especially at a property that presents itself as five-star. I documented everything thoroughly, including photos, and reported it immediately. What followed was not resolution, but dismissal. The hotel relied on claims of third-party inspections to deny the issue, yet despite requesting the extermination reports multiple times, I was never provided with any documentation. No transparency, no meaningful explanation, and no real concern for what I experienced. Let's be clear: the most troubling part was not just the incident--it was how it was handled. There was no accountability. I incurred out-of-pocket expenses dealing with the aftermath, and the hotel has refused to take responsibility in any meaningful way. Instead, I was offered a future stay at the same property for one night, an offer that is both impractical (as I live out of state) and completely misses the point. After this experience, returning is simply not an option. For a hotel that markets itself as luxury, the response was anything but. A five-star property should meet serious concerns with urgency, transparency, and genuine guest care--not denial and deflection. If this is how The Charleston Place handles legitimate guest issues, the "five-star" label is highly questionable. read more

Can compete with the Four Seasons and Ritz for quality and customer service. Front desk staff very friendly and welcoming. Valets were awesome. Shout out to Kennedy our server in the lounge. So extremely friendly and professional with great service. Downside was room cleaning. We left tag on door to complete service while we were out (twice) and came back and room was not serviced (twice). Also, hostess at the lounge was extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming. She seemed to have a bad disposition- not a good position for her dealing with the public. But it is a beautiful hotel central to great shopping and sightseeing. Very walkable. The Charleston Place is a nice hotel and the service is very good. The three star rating is really driven by the ongoing renovation. I am sure it will be amazing once complete but a bit of a hassle right now. I would recommend you ask about where your room will be located relative to where renovations are being done. The spa is still in temporary quarters and the pool is closed. Would come back in the future but definitely will wait until the renovation is complete. The Palmetto Cafe is a great place for lunch. read more

unfortunate from the start: we checked in midday and waited for room. three hour wait was understandable but being in " room wait line" early should have meant something besides " leftovers." we received a room with no armchair, no place for hanging dresses and long pants, no shelving in bath for toiletries. it must have been a handicapped equipped room and not one to hand an early registered guest. it backed up to elevator and talking waked us up till midnight and restarted at day break. our vacation break ended up with us exhausted. To their credit when I asked for a different room I was told we could move but they had no rooms at the time and we needed to be at a dinner. they were solicitous, but the room shd not be assigned to guests not in a wheelchair and looking for a chair, regular shelving and quiet. read more

Lovely, iconic place - we're happy to have revisited. It's a top-notch hotel; please note that any issue noted below is mentioned only in light of not achieving _perfection_ . . . and the issues were only noteworthy because almost everything about our visit to The Charleston Place _was_ perfect. Gloriously clean and beautiful - and efficient. Every staffer was friendly and caring - that's remarkable. Our room was well and efficiently designed, comfortably appointed and well maintained (with two small exceptions - a broken hinge on balcony door and slow draining bathroom sink were tiny flaws that did not diminish our enjoyment of our stay). The bell staff could have been better organized, but that could have just been an off moment. There was actually a problem during our stay (the water had to be turned off to the entire hotel for several hours) but that just goes to show you that things can happen at even this class of hotel and what matters was the management response: The Charleston Place management handled it perfectly and almost totally mitigated all inconvenience to the guests. Nice! We have visited The Charleston Place before and we certainly would like to visit again. read more

Be forewarned: if you book into The Charleston Place in 2026, you might not get much sleep. Since it's Belmond days, The Charleston Place (club level) has been my go-to nearly every time I've been in Charleston overnight. And it never disappointed. Except for the last time, in early March 2026. My deluxe room (not club level) was directly under one of the rooms undergoing renovation. And it was like bunking on a sidewalk in Manhattan: the drilling and banging were relentless. As I was checking out, the desk clerk told me that yes, work goes on from 8 a.m. till 10 p.m. and will continue through the end of the year, at which time renovation work will begin on the hotel's public areas. So at least till this project ends, I'll be booking elsewhere. read more

Visit: April 2024 This was my first time in Charleston and it was Easter weekend. (+) Centrally located. (+) The building looks nice and the lobby was nicely decorated. (-) The room looks very dated. (-) Room service was late. Don't expect it from a hotel of this caliber. (-) Breakfast in the lobby restaurant was so slow (-) Got vouchers for cocktails and the cocktails from the lobby bar (Thoroughbred) was underwhelming. (+) Upgraded to the club floor and it was worth it with a toddler. I asked how much the upgrade was at check-in and it was reasonable (can't remember how much it was). The club staff were very nice. (-) I was excited they had Easter weekend activities, but that soon turned to disappointment as the place felt MOBBED with non-hotel guests. Petting zoo line? So long. DIY floral bouquet? No line, no order and the other participants were unkind. I left emptyhanded. I passed it later and I think they instituted some order - too late. There was a table with portrait artists and that went fast since they took a picture and you could go back afterwards. Overall, it put a damper on the nice weekend. They should really add a priority line or something for hotel guests. (+) Nice hotel pool I had booked with Amex FHR. If I were to visit Charleston again, I would try another place unless this place had an amazing deal. read more

December 2025 In more serious Hotel-Management schooling, they tell you that the first 10 minutes of a clients arrival are the most important for the guest to make an impression. The Charleston Place never attended Hotel-Management-School. This was my second and last stay at the hotel and other guests need to be aware that what shines from the outside may not all be so inside, this is particular try for this hotel. Upon checkin, there was a long line of guests checking in, it was a busy afternoon. The reception offered glasses of drinks for guests. One of the receptionists responsible for checkin was more involved giving a family who had already kept everyone up for the last 20 minutes second and third refills (management, check the tapes at checkin) to the family with some members being clearly underage. After longer than endurable wait, management decided to call others to help with checkin. Our corner suite with balcony (this was booked) was not ready, it was not 4pm yet and I would bet messages when the room was ready to pick up keys. Number and email address were taken. Shortly before 4 I called the hotel as I had no news about the room, telephone operator told me that I would be contacted. At about 30 minutes after the time I should be given a key for my suite - still no keys. After speaking to management about my frustration and went into the back room and did not come out for another longer wait. Finally, I received my keys, but for a room I did not book. To top-off the experience, the Spa at the hotel charged my wife for a 100m massage while a 50m was booked. Really a humiliating experience with this hotel. Not cool and not a redo. read more

I had the great fortune of staying at the Charleston Place hotel, and I had access to the Club Lounge. One of the best club lounges I've ever been to - the folks are very friendly, there's always hot coffee/tea and beverages available, and when the food comes out, it hits the spot. Finger sandwiches, salads, fresh fruits and vegetables, soups and rice, fresh breads, you name it. It truly was a decision every day whether to eat at the lounge or venture out to one of Charleston's eateries. So beware if you're staying at Charleston Place - you might find yourself with the same conundrum! read more

To who it may concern, We had a great check in with Anna yesterday and secured a room on the 8th floor but from there it has been down hill.  We put our name on the list for the Thoroughbred bar to listen to the entertainment and eat dinner.  We decided to get a drink and appetizer at the bar next to the Thoroughbred bar and it was a train wreck from there.  We were some of the only people in the bar and ordered drinks that were put in wrong and deliver over 15 minutes later and our food order was never put in and 45 minutes asked where the food was and the server said she would check but never put the Oysters order in.  Unfortunately, the Oysters were fair at best delivered over an hour later and it took us another 20 minutes to get our check which caused us to be late for our Thoroughbred reservation. Very very poor service and no accountability or apology.  Anyway, the delay caused us to be late for our Thoroughbred table and once we checked in and we're told our table was given away and there would be a 45 minute wait.  At this point we were hungry and agitated and decided to go to the Sports Bar in the Charleston Place and ordered wings and crab dip. The wings were dry, over cooked and the bar tenders seemed upset and must have had an argument because there was tension in the air and the service represented that mood.  Our experience for our Anniversary is not good so far and we are considering looking into other hotel options. In closing, we are here for the Healthcare conference but looking into other accommodations today. There is little value here with poor service and inconsistent food ... I've never stayed at Charleston Place, but I've walked through plenty of time. The shops are high end so if you're looking for luxury in Charleston this is where to go for you Gucci and LV. They. have plenty of other stores if that's not in your budget. Plus you will want to walk through the lobby to see their amazing decor which is always changing. The best time to go is the holidays as they do one of the best displays in Charleston and at certain times it even snows out front (they have a schedule of times online)... how fun is that. read more

My son was in town for an interview and we were put up at this hotel. It was right in the middle of all the action of downtown Charleston. Our stay was exquisite. We felt like royalty. For breakfast room service, they brought a table right in the room! Special rounds were made by the staff to deliver water! I never saw that elsewhere and I have been to many hotels. The spa and pool areas also didn't disappoint. There was also a rooftop lounging area where small meals and beverages were served. This was prohibitively expensive. I think I ended up paying $20 for a small smoothy. Prices were not on the menu. Next time I will be sure to ask. The lounge chairs by the pool and on the rooftop were extremely comfortable. I ended up taking a nap after swimming my laps. There was also a juccuzi that I enjoyed. The ambiance was like that of a Roman spa! The hotel lobby area was tastefully decorated. This place really stands out as you walk along King Street. You know it's something when you start seeing the high-end shops like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. We were there for New Years and they still had their beautiful Christmas trees and decor up so we saw two giant nutcrackers framing the entrance doors and had to come in and check it out. They have some really nice shops and stores for ladies clothing, specialty things, decor, etc. inside. Tons of great dining and live piano music greeted us. There are several areas to people-watch, take photos, and watch the display in the center of the main lobby. Multiple street exists make it easy to come and go from various parts of this large complex. All the dining is excellent! We loved light dinner and drinks at Meeting on Market which is at the Market St. entrance. read more

Food was great! We went on Sunday for the buffet. There was an omelet station, a carving station, fruit, pastries, and much more. Once we eat our fill we headed to the dessert table. It did not disappoint! My favorite thing was the cheesecake pops. The chocolate ratio to cheesecake was perfect with a dusting of graham cracker. Yum! read more

Never stayed here but the 5 stars is for the train town display the put out for the past decade or so. Ever since moving here in the early 2000s it was a treat to check out the Charleston Place during the holiday season for the decorations and holiday cheer. Over the last few years their team has really ramped up the festivities like getting the community more involved with tree lightings, performances, holiday markets. I'm impressed that the trees indoors were all real!!! And so many tastefully decorated too! The Charleston Place truly makes the spirits bright with their eye for design and spreading the holiday cheer each year! read more

We got put up here when we came for an interview. It definately made a great impression! The service was top notch. The room was clean. the bed was very comfortable. The pool area is really awesome to hang out at ! my only issue is that I wish it would have been open later (the pool closes when the spa closes which is a shame. This place is really expensive. A 3 night stay was over $1000...it included $40 or more for breakfast, but it was sometims a struggle to stay under that. My issue I had is that it was booked by a potential employer, but they actually put all the costs on my incidental credit card and not their card. I called to get this corrected but it didnt happen. It was a pain to keep track of and have to go back the business to try to get them to re-imburse which still has not happened so far! read more

Christmas at the Charleston Place Hotel My wife and I have stayed at this 5-star hotel more times than I can remember. During the Christmas season, it is the center of holiday activity for the entire city and do a great job decorating for the holidays - maybe the best in the country. It is truly spectacular! But this can be both a blessing and a curse. The hotel is overrun by locals and tourists wanting to see all the decorations. For anyone staying at the hotel and paying for 5-star services, it is best to forget this time of year. Room service is not an option. You can call and get no answer. You can leave a message, with no response. The front desk is not helpful and never answered their phone when we called! The only other option for breakfast is the Palmetto Cafe. We waited one and a half hours for a table, only to find one server for the entire restaurant. A large section of the restaurant was closed off due to the lack of staff but we were told it was because of a roof leak. The odd thing was that later on, people were seated in this area! Most of the people at the restaurant were not hotel guests. Hotel guests are forced to wait or go elsewhere. We did not attempt to go back after the first experience. The only option was to wait in the long line at the coffee shop. There is one bar at the hotel. This too required long waits (45 minutes+). There were many tables available but only one bartender and a couple of table servers. Sections of the bar are closed off, presumably because there is no staff to support additional paying customers. Long lines of people are common, who get to witness this mismanagement. You can leave your phone number for an available table (in 45 minutes) but never receive a text. Ultimately this is a hotel management failure. Adding staff during busy holiday periods should be standard. I think of all of the revenue lost, the long lines of miserable people witnessing bad management and the endless excuses as to why you have to wait another 30 minutes which turns out to be 45 minutes or more. A good reputation is very difficult to attain, but very easy to lose. We had booked the hotel using a 'fine hotels and resorts' booking which includes 'free breakfast' each day. To utilize this benefit would require a lot of time, patience and frustration, but it is just not worth it. Imagine that. Free breakfast at a 5-star hotel is not worth the hassle. I would recommend visiting Charleston Place during the holiday season but do not book a room here and expect 5-star service. There are many other great hotels in the area that were not overwhelmed and provided full services to their guests. read more

Elizabeth at the spa was entirely unprofessional and turned us away from this hotel entirely. My boyfriend and I's couple massage was canceled less than an hour before the appointment time on New Year's Day because one of our masseuses called out sick. There was no alternative to a massage we booked months in advance. There was no option for a massage at all after ours was canceled. Elizabeth needs professional training. read more
