Review is for Christmas decor viewing only. Meandered into the hotel once I saw how beautifully decorated the entrances were, a sneak peek of what was to come. There were at least 50 trees set up on the main level, plenty of photo opportunities. The lobby had a live harpist, display of a small town and train (perfect to capture the attention of both adults and kids alike), cute telephone booth to call Santa. Definitely make this a stop on your holiday decor walking tour.

The hotel is located in the heart of Charleston. Beautifully appointed rooms. The property is large and has several boutiques and restaurants. We were lucky enough to have found the new residency by Chef Daniel Humm x The Charleston Place. He deserves his Michelin stars accolades. Do not skip this experience.

Loved being there during the Christmas. It gave me the Christmas spirit. Impressive displays, sugar cookies, hot chocolates, and even snow. Ate at the Sports Bar, excellent food and service. The bed was comfy! The rain shower was the best. Fancy and every staff person gave amazing service

Snow, Christmas trees, the largest gingerbread house and did I mention snow. Looking for something free to do with the kids. Go and see the tree, watch the snow while sipping hot chocolate. You don't need a ticket just jump in line outside nearest the market entrance. After the snow show go inside and see the largest gingerbread house ever. Don't forget to see the polar Express train set it pretty dang amazing.

Lovely, iconic place - we're happy to have revisited. It's a top-notch hotel; please note that any issue noted below is mentioned only in light of not achieving _perfection_ . . . and the issues were only noteworthy because almost everything about our visit to The Charleston Place _was_ perfect. Gloriously clean and beautiful - and efficient. Every staffer was friendly and caring - that's remarkable. Our room was well and efficiently designed, comfortably appointed and well maintained (with two small exceptions - a broken hinge on balcony door and slow draining bathroom sink were tiny flaws that did not diminish our enjoyment of our stay). The bell staff could have been better organized, but that could have just been an off moment. There was actually a problem during our stay (the water had to be turned off to the entire hotel for several hours) but that just goes to show you that things can happen at even this class of hotel and what matters was the management response: The Charleston Place management handled it perfectly and almost totally mitigated all inconvenience to the guests. Nice! We have visited The Charleston Place before and we certainly would like to visit again.

Visit: April 2024 This was my first time in Charleston and it was Easter weekend. (+) Centrally located. (+) The building looks nice and the lobby was nicely decorated. (-) The room looks very dated. (-) Room service was late. Don't expect it from a hotel of this caliber. (-) Breakfast in the lobby restaurant was so slow (-) Got vouchers for cocktails and the cocktails from the lobby bar (Thoroughbred) was underwhelming. (+) Upgraded to the club floor and it was worth it with a toddler. I asked how much the upgrade was at check-in and it was reasonable (can't remember how much it was). The club staff were very nice. (-) I was excited they had Easter weekend activities, but that soon turned to disappointment as the place felt MOBBED with non-hotel guests. Petting zoo line? So long. DIY floral bouquet? No line, no order and the other participants were unkind. I left emptyhanded. I passed it later and I think they instituted some order - too late. There was a table with portrait artists and that went fast since they took a picture and you could go back afterwards. Overall, it put a damper on the nice weekend. They should really add a priority line or something for hotel guests. (+) Nice hotel pool I had booked with Amex FHR. If I were to visit Charleston again, I would try another place unless this place had an amazing deal.

First time in Charleston and highly recommend this gorgeous and first class hotel! Conveniently located to walk to many sights! We will definitely be back!

Posing in front of one of the many beautifully decorated trees!

There were a lots of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. They boast about their butler service, which is pretty unique in the United States (akin to the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean). We only stayed one night and did not make the most out of it. Our butler was very pleasant and offered detailed recommendations regarding restaurants in the area. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We arrived early and had to wait a few hours until our room was ready. That was a slight nuisance as it was a cold and rainy October weekend in Charleston. Luckily they had plenty of umbrellas for us to use. The welcome cocktails were a nice touch when we were finally able to check-in. Other nice touches include the complimentary drinks, candies and snacks that were already waiting in the room. The turndown service also included chocolate and a small sweet alcoholic drink / shot. Lastly, the included room service breakfast in the morning elevates the stay. A lot of good things. However, I thought the rooms themselves were just okay and a bit dated. Our friends stayed at a boutique hotel with vaulted ceilings and its own kitchenette for less money. Another disappointment was that we booked a room with a small outdoor courtyard, but were given a regular room. Given the weather, we probably wouldn't have used the outdoor space at all, but it would be good to get what you paid for. Overall very good service and location. They have a nice bar by the lobby that we did not make use of. The rooms themselves are just okay and on the small size. I would probably stay somewhere else next time I visit Charleston, even though I have nothing bad to say about The Spectator. Maybe my expectations were too high with a 4.8 / 5 average Yelp score. I just think there's better value elsewhere.

You're only as strong as your weakest link…read more I've stayed in many hotels for both work and personal travel. The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.

I had no idea what to expect of the rooms. Honestly, we booked this place last minute so I briefly reviewed the pictures and reviews but was just ready to get away. BUT when we got to the room, after self parking at the public garage behind the hotel, we opened the door to the cutest little room. It was sized as if it was in New York City but had cute boho chic charm. It's perfectly located in the middle of everything and the walkability was what we enjoyed most. We walked to all of the best restaurants and shops once we parked, we only left the a garage once the entire time there. We loved the daily breakfast and were intentional about making it downstairs for it. The grits were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and once topped with the shredded cheese and fresh cracked pepper, I couldn't get enough! The pastries and biscuits were also very good. The biscuits and pastries tasted like someone's grandma made them. I know this review is long, so I'll stop now even though I could say so much more. We'll definitely return because I failed to try their espresso martini and they boast to have the best. Note: There's a valet option but the self parking seemed easier. It took us 30 min walking to downtown, but there is a free shuttle that makes stops at all the major points and it runs quite often.
