do not stay at this hotel management and staff are horrible and unprofessional. i am trying to kind out who hire those people to serve customers when they themselves have no morals or ethics. never take their word they are always covering up and lying breakfast is horrible i only took apples and oranges. cleanliness i would give a 3. customer service -0 management-5 i was there for 10 days and i regretted everyday i was there. i tried to go to another hotel but they were sold out so i had to stay there. the locks on the doors do not even lock properly and the lights it takes an act of congress to get them on. i will never return to this classless place. read more

Giving this place 5 stars because of the staff! The staff was so nice & accommodating. I first met Ricky who checked me in and changed my reservation so that I could be on the same floor as my family. Came here for a party, our first time in Virginia. We were welcomed with hot coffee, water & snacks -- so sweet! We were woken up a at about 1:30am to a fire alarm going off & the hotel being evacuated because someone was smoking in a room. That was so scary, (a first for me & my entire family). We didn't know at the time that it was because someone was smoking but we did learn it afterwards and also learned that the people were asked to leave. It was hard for everyone to go back to sleep but we eventually did. Woke up the next day to a nice breakfast & a friendly checkout. I would definitely book this hotel again. Thank you! read more

Tuesday at the front desk is frequently mentioned in other reviews as being friendly and helpful and she certainly is I hope that she gets a reward or of some kind because she is exceptional. Housekeeping staff is friendly. Our room was generally clean however, the carpet was grossly stained as is the hallway carpet upholstered chairs the dining area are heavily soiled. The ice machine. On the second floor is the only one that works. It has been broken since October 2024. It seems like for the cost of a room. I have never been treated at a hotel the way I was just treated at the Hampton Inn Hampton-Newport News. The front desk worker, Makaya, was atrocious to work with. We arrived at 9pm after a long flight and checked in to our room only to find out that it was not the room that I had booked. Someone named Jaclyn had gone in and changed my room type without asking me or any notification. Ok, I can work with that. Just give us 2 rollaway beds and we will be good to go. Was told that is a fire hazard. Ok, no problem. Just give me a room with 2 beds. Not an option. Has everyone checked in? Makaya said they had. Everyone had checked in to every room at the hotel. Mind you, the parking lot was barely full. At 9pm. Well, Jacalyn changed my room, so change someone's room who hasn't checked in. Makaya wasn't doing that. Can I speak to a manager? No. Makaya is the only one here. Well, is my daughter supposed to sleep on the floor? Makaya said, well? WELL? I booked a room with a couch for a reason. Makaya wouldn't call a manager, wouldn't change my room, wouldn't give me a roll away bed, said she was the only one there and couldn't help other than to cancel my reservation and said I could just go find somewhere else to stay. She had an attitude the entire time and offered no solutions for YOUR HOTEL'S mistake. There is a huge basketball tourney in town and very few rooms are available. Makaya could not have cared less. She was rude the entire time. Tried to rush us off to get us out of her way. When I came back down to cancel the room with customer care on the phone, she helped someone else in front of me even after I asked her to hurry and cancel my room so I could use some of my points to book another room at a HIGHER RATE. I plan my summer out months in advance to lock in the best prices as we travel every week for basketball. I am currently in another hotel, paying more and staying further away from my venue and all of this had to be dealt with at 11pm at night. If I could give 0 stars, I would. And I am a Gold member. If Jaclyn was not giving me an upgrade, my room should never have been changed. read more

The room was not the cleanest. I already don't like staying in hotels, so stains all over the place made me feel disgusted even more. It was pretty quiet. The front desk staff was pretty friendly. There is a fridge and microwave in the room for you to use. It is close to the Town Center in Hampton that has many, many shoppes and restaurants to meet your needs. I probably wouldn't go back just because of the stains on the furniture in my room though. They definitely need to deep clean that place. Spent four nights there and not once were my towels changed, bed made or baskets emptied. We were gone during each day and expected to see that housekeeping had arrived. On the last night of return when there were no clean towels and the baskets were full had to go to the front desk to receive towels and have someone come to the room to empty the baskets. We were told that you have to ask for your room to be cleaned or towels replaced even though it clearly stated on a sticker afixed to the bathroom mirror the rooms are cleaned every other day. One more problem, if you don't get to breakfast early enough they run out and don't replenish even when they're still open. I don't know of any other hotel that charged almost $200 per night that states you have to go to the front desk if you want your room cleaned. read more

Maybe I am being picky or am spoiled; but after recent stays at Home2 Suites by Hilton and Tru by Hilton, I can honestly say this Hampton Inn is in serious need of a refresh. The hotel was reasonably clean, staff was polite and efficient, the bed was firm and pillows too soft. Water pressure in shower was good and the breakfast was standard Hilton fare, waffles, eggs, fruit, prime rib hash, oatmeal etc. My room was adjacent to Coliseum Dr., so there was noise; but not unbearable. There are shops and restaurants located nearby and you are right across the street from Sentara Careplex Hosptal. Room decor was dated, television small, room refrigerator was quiet, did not use microwave, air conditioning kept the room cool and the lobby had plenty of seating for breakfast. I would stay here again in a pinch but only for a night or two, price paid for the room was definitely not worth the money. read more

This place is horrible. Down the street from food places but the hotel just has a run down feel. Expect the fire alarm to go off atleast 2-3 times every night due to people smoking in their rooms. If you want peaceful rest, this is not the place for you. read more

One of the nicer Hampton Inns, featuring amenities other ones lack - a vanity kit in the bathroom containing cotton swabs and cotton balls, fridge and microwave in every room, two waffle makers in the breakfast nook (instead of the usual single unit), and three hot breakfast entrees instead of the usual two. Hotel is convenient to stores, restaurants, a hospital, and cemetery, and the Coliseum and Convention Center are less than 10 mins away. Unfortunately, so are two airports, whose jets we heard late into the evening - ask for an even-numbered room if you're sensitive to noise! read more

Honestly, I have zero complaints about this hotel. The bed was comfortable, the front desk lady was friendly and fast, and the shower was hot. The TV worked fine. Even got to watch HBO for the night so that was a treat. The major pro was I somehow got a super cheap rate booking through hotels.com on the day of my stay. Even the front desk girl was surprised, but i figure maybe it's good karma lol. Would absolutely stay here again. Good location for an early important meeting at Newport News courthouse. read more

This hotel is in the perfect quiet location. It's directly across the street from a hospital but you would only know it if you saw it. You do not hear any emergency vehicles, noise or commotion. This hotel has a very nice parking lot, a nice open lobby that spoils you w fresh cookies in ther evening and a friendly guest services representative to greet you upon entering. There's an open & well decorated dining area, gym, pool & laundry amenities as well. Another bonus of the hotel is of course the free breakfast. Now, let me discuss the rooms with you... I like to the start by saying overall all the rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. Additional cleaning would compliment this hotel more. Our wall lamp shade was dirty, the wall had minor splashes of something on it and someone's disposable floss pick was on the floor by bedding in plain eye's view. Nothing listed is a deal breaker and I'd definitely stay again when/ if the opportunity presents itself. read more

Rooms are nicely appointed with Hilton bedding. Beds were high and comfortable- not hard, not soft. Enough room to move around with the family 4. Neutrogena products in bath with Hilton high sink and space under sink for wet towels. Breakfast was waffle (u make them) with syrup or 3 other toppings. Bacon, Eggs and lemon potatoes (too lemony for my taste) and oatmeal were the hot items. Yogurt and cold cereals - fresh cut fruit and boiled eggs were available. Milk, juice, water, coffee. Bagels, English muffins, some pastries. Parking lot has plenty of parking. Why the minus one star? The smoking thing - we checked into room 425. In itself this room is great. However it didn't end that way: We entered the fourth floor (the top floor) after selecting our room online. Stepping off the elevator, you could smell a faint smell of smoke. It followed us to the room, but once inside, there was no smoke smell. We kept the room. However the next morning was different- smoke could be smelled in our room. It had penetrated the space around our room door and filled the room. Turns out that the hall to the right of the elevators did not have smoking, but the right side (ours) did. The smoking room was right across from our room. This floor design is terrible. Had it not been so late, I might have made a better decision to leave for a better room, but as noted, the room did not smell when we got there. read more

I am currently checking into this hotel now and we accidentally booked the wrong size room. Upon arriving a very rude front desk agent advised the hotel was booked and couldn't change our room and stated we would still be charged. We called to Hilton Honors and they transferred us to the front desk after advising they couldn't help because the only other property available would charge us for the room as well. What type of resolution would this be to be charged for two rooms of which we wouldn't need. First mistake. Second when transferred back to the receptionist she advised that there was no manager on duty and no point of contact we could speak to tonight to obtain our money back. Save your time and money! This hotel is not even worth the headache nor the money you will end up spending. It is 2019 learn how to have better customer service and accommodate your guests! So the next morning after my sister slept on the floor the manager was in office. She advised that her staff should've given her a call and that they had roll away beds the staff could've offered. She gave us 75% of our stay back. Which was appreciated. However I won't be changing my rating for the inconvenience and lack of poor execution on the staffs behalf. read more

We just came home from staying at this hotel for 13 nights. Our room was clean and the breakfast area was pretty. We liked that we were able to get coffee/tea/hot water anytime. We actually used the exercise room of this place as it was also pretty clean and well maintained. During our stay here, we could see the staff continuously maintaining the place such as repainting doors and pavement along with mopping the floors and cleaning other places. The Wifi was great too as it was trouble free during entire stay. read more

I had an unexpected week long stay here this past holiday week and I couldn't be more grateful for the staff on the whole. Housekeeping was on point and courteous. Front desk was knowledgeable, and helpful, and patient. Easy to get to. Quiet. The breakfast was a BIG win! The facility was clean and offered a laundry room which was very appreciated! The only thing I could even begin to "complain" about was the the complementary wi-fi. (It would kick me out often) BUT it was free so, that's more of a warning, than a complaint. This is atleast our 8th time staying here. Checked in on Thursday...there were no less than 8 bobby pins laying in our hallway, it's now Monday and they are still there. Cookies were always a bonus when we returned in the evenings, they were either empty or not there when we returned. ***It's memorial Day and the flag is not lowered!! It should have been lowered from sunrise until noon!!!! This is a military base area, I did tell the front desk before sunrise. Pool is always cold!!! It's a great hotel to be. I stayed there for good 7 to 9 days. All the staff is very friendly, greets you when you come in or leave. Complimentary breakfast, wifi are pretty good. You get a lot of choice in breakfast with some healthy food as well. Rooms are clean with refrigerators in them along with microwave, so you can get anything from supermarket/walmarts and get your own meal going. You can't beat the price if you have a military or veteran ID. The pool is nice. The beds are nice too, but they give you only a sheet and then only the comforter. We are Hilton Diamond Members. We booked the wrong date at this Hampton Inn for our son who is drilling reservist out of Langley AFB. 8 minutes later I realized I had booked the wrong day - I called, explained, and tried to slide the reservation one day. I was rudely told "NO". Due to no availability anywhere else locally I was forced to book a second reservation for the following day. I tried though the Hotel to get the incorrect booking refunded without success. I then appealed to the Hilton Diamond line to get the charge removed but was told refunds were at the discretion of the hotel and that corporate would not intervene and offer any type of refund. Our son stayed there that Saturday night and commented the property is in marginal condition and the staff was not all that friendly which was consistent in my dealings with the management. If you want a quality stay - steer clear and stay somewhere else. Hiltons motto of "Let us make it right" is just that, words backed by no action. read more

VERY polite staff, helpful (i've checked in after midnight and the person on staff was friendly and sympathetic), and the rooms clean. The free breakfast is... spartan. ANYONE ABOUT TO STAY HERE THEY DO NOT TAKE COVID SERIOUSLY, was brushed off when trying to get a partial refund, and also before being able to bring awareness to the fact of a postive Covid test, she goes "Oh she won't be refunded, she checked out late, hungover." I respond uhm? excuse me? Drinking is against my religious convictions. I also said I wasnt feeling well and asked for understanding for me being able to feasibly get the car packed, and with their permission with being ill I took my time packing the car. Also, who is this woman to speculate on my health and during a global pandemic you're going to assume I am hungover over having Covid.... That gives me great faith that they're Covid concious. Well she refused to answer after hanging up the phone (that shows she was handling herself to what The Hampton Inn expects of their employees) we, the travel agency and I called persistently because we don't know if she hung up before hearing about Covid. Ignoring the calls that were calling to advocate for me, and to let them know of a positive Covid test! so I don't think it bodes well that they take this pandemic seriously at all and I wouldn't be surprised if this is where I got it from. With the way they acted it gives me more reason to believe so. read more

The hotel was great! A VERY comfortable stay; especially for the price! The Room was modern, clean, and they have a nice fragrance throughout the hallways. My issue was with the administration/customer service. The Hampton app sent an email (or a pop up) for me to do Early Check-In. I filled out the form and indicated my arrival time as 10pm. On my way down I got three phone calls from the Manager (Deana) wanting to know if I was still coming - and at what time... She then told me over the phone that my credit card was rejected so they were about to give my room away. Luckily, I was only 20 minutes away. I asked for them to keep my arrangenents and we'll discuss it when I get there. Upon arriving at the desk, the clerk told me that her Manager 'informed her about me'. In front of all the other customers she loudly continued to tell me that they tried to get three different authorizations for three different amounts from my card - and that NONE OF THEM went through. I discretely told her that there's nothing wrong with my card. I handed her the exact same card that I used on the app, and it was approved. Her comment then was... "AND NOW it's going through! Sometimes you just have to come in to swipe it." It was very embarrassing... The Hotel and its ammenities are very nice, but the employees need sensitivity training. And the Hampton should get rid of the early check-in app if it's that flawed. read more

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at the Hampton Inn! I was on active duty TDY orders for the United States Air Force, and the Hampton Inn was the hotel most convenient for the event I was attending at Langley AFB. However, after the first night staying there, I woke up with bites all over my body! I wanted to make sure I didn't claim they had bed bugs until I did some testing and made sure it wasn't an allergic reaction to the soap or detergent the towels and sheets were washed in. After replacing the soaps and avoiding the sheets, the bites continued to get worse each day. I finally complained to the front desk and they said they would provide me with a different room when I got back from work. I came back to the room having been torn apart and treated for bugs, my stuff all moved without my permission, and a sense that they were going to try and cover things up. I called my home base DO to discuss my options and it was recommended that I switch hotels. I agreed and booked another hotel nearby and checked out of the hotel. The front desk assured me that even though it was a late checkout I would NOT be charged for that night. This is the bare minimum the hotel could have done to compensate me for having me stay in a pest infested room, but it gets worse. Once the hotel found out that the other Airman travelling with me would also be switching hotels, their story changed and they said we WOULD be charged for the night we would not be staying at their hotel. No compensation, no apology, and then they charged us for a night we would not even be staying in the hotel. I have attached pictures for proof! They demanded that I get proof beyond those pictures and forced me to go to an urgent care and get documented proof beyond the bites all over my body. I did, using one of my two annual urgent care visits through Tri-Care, and will be using that now documented proof to black list this hotel on DTS so no other service members will experience this terrible hotel for themselves. If you are reading this, I highly suggest you consider staying elsewhere. read more

Best hotel to be in when traveling We've discovered that if we were to travel without Hampton we may as well not travel at all. Hampton Hotels are the cleanest and most comfortable hotels to be in. They also have a private bathroom with a sink. The staff is always courteous and friendly with you. Also the breakfast was very good. Not your normal cereal and fruit. We stayed at the Hampton in Joplin on this trip and also three years ago because we loved the experience so much. The price was competitive. The bathrooms were private. The beds and pillows were comfy. Staff was friendly The whole experience was wonderful. Locations were great and near restaurants. They are fabulous! I forgot my phone charger and the lovely young lady at the front desk said," I have one! I won't be back until tomorrow, just leave it at the desk!" Nancy is a saint! She saved me! First off I love Hampton inn, I travel a lot and usually stay at their locations all around. The night I checked in the lady at the front desk was extremely nice and the room was perfect. However, in the morning, approximately 8 am,I waited at the front desk for 10 minutes before an employee showed up. I even called thinking the phone ringing would get them there faster but it did not. Finally after searching the offices behind the counter I found Tania. She never apologized for not being at her station, and rudely asked what I wanted. Then I tried to extend my stay for another night. My boss pre pays for the hotel and sends in an credit card authorization form ahead of time, usually this is no problem. Tania argued with me while she tried to charge my credit card, I told her about the authorization form and she rolled her eyes as she flipped open a binder. I saw her look at the form with my name on it but then she proceeded to flip to the back of the binder and pain stakingly go through every form from back to front even though mine was second from the front. When she finally landed on my form she told me my boss would have to fax them another one. This is when I requested to speak to a manager. She told me that there were no managers working at the time. I had to leave to go to a conference by 8:30 and did not have time to deal with Tania. I then had to run back to my room and pack my bags. When I went to checkout this time Tania still rolling her eyes when I asked for my receipt, she informed me that the manager would be in by 9 am and I told her to have them call me. They never did and Tania refused to even say "have a nice day" when I finally left. It's people like Tania that can ruin a business. She is supposed to be the smiling face that you first see when you arrive at the hotel and she was completely rude and lacks hospitality. If I walked into another Hampton and saw her, I would walk right back out. read more

The hotel is close to the good stuff in Hampton - all the major restaurants, Target, Walmart, the mall and the hospital. My grandparents lived here so I'm actually very familiar with the area - the good and bad. Knowing the area as I do honestly I wasn't sure what to expect hotel-wise as Hampton is not exactly a booming metropolis and reviews on the few hotels in the area are mixed. We rented two rooms and both were great! The hotel is newer so the rooms, lobby, etc are all modernized. The room was clean. The beds were comfy. The staff was nice. Each room has a microwave and refrigerator too - which is a perk most hotels don't offer. The breakfast was good. Its not a buffet or anything terribly fancy but there's hot oatmeal (with optional raisins, slivered almonds and cinnamon brown sugar), a selection of cold cereals, muffins, danish, bagel, fresh hot waffle maker, eggs, bacon, fruit, coffee, juice, milk.... All in all a very, very good experience. There are other hotels in the area that charge the same rate ($119/room) but don't offer free Wi-Fi, in room amenities like the fridge and microwave or breakfast. I travel for a living and I'm becoming a big fan of Hampton Inns in general but as I'm sure you know just because a place carries a certain hotel chain name doesn't mean it will meet your expectations. Don't stay in the odd numbered rooms. They are NOISY! Good part is rooms are clean because it is a newer hotel. The front desk person wasn't very friendly IMO. With my status they still put me in a shitty odd numbered room and the front desk person would not switch my room because they were all sold out and she informed that there are the two rooms left are on the quiet side of the building but those people are regulars who requested those rooms. Thanks for making feel like my business is important to you. I will definitely not stay here again. The fan doesn't work in room 425 either, so don't rely on white noise to drown out all the noise from traffic. The maintenance guy is a frickin idiot because he said either hot or cold, but no fan. This hotel was defitnally not what was depicted on the website. It was much smaller, in need of alot of upkeep, the sheets did not look as if they had been changed, the floors were dirty and sticky, the appliances where not there, and the room looked as if it was in dire need of painting. To get fresh towels, the used ones had to be taken to the front desk, when asked for pillow I was told i dont know about finding more pillows. I was also told the room would be cleaned while i was staying there. The only postive thk g about this room was the ac worked really well. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and will not be staying there in the future. read more

Edited to add: the staff was very helpful in the morning. Though two beds would be heaven we took a king with a roll away so we could have a non smoking room. The hotel really needs to change the doors so odors from the hallway do not come in from the gap at the bottom of the door with hepa filters in rooms and hallway, if they have smoking rooms. IMO all hotels should be non smoking, with "cigar/cigarette room for the smokers. Called Hampton for a different location but due to an event the weekend we were staying the rooms were booked. The wonderful person on the phone found a room for me and booked it. She never once asked if a Smoking room was acceptable. This evening after 4 1/2 hour drive and arriving at 11:00pm we found out that we had a Smoking room. In MD there aren't Smoking Rooms so I never once worried that we would be on a floor that you could smell smoke as soon as you walked off the elevator. I sit in our room now wish my throat burning and fingers crossed that my husband will find a store open that sells Frebreze. It is too late to find another hotel and the staffs hands are tied because there are no other rooms available. Check your reservations closely or you could end up like us! Extremely disappointed that this chain would allow this. There is a 2 inch gap between the bottom of the door and the floor that I had to stuff a towel into so the smoke would not come into our room from the hallway. read more

Had people come into town for graduation and the manager on duty was a complete asshole. we SPECIFICALLY had down that the reservation needed an earlier check-in because they would be traveling all night (confirmed that up to a week in advance). time for check-in and I (even though the room was charged on MY credit card) was not allowed to check in because reservation wasn't in MY name. I like staying at Hampton Inns but I will NEVER stay at this particular hotel again. This is the 2nd time we have been rudely treated while staying there. read more
