I should also note that the hotel was only at a third capacity, so we really didn't see much of anyone other than the staff throughout our one night stay. We felt safe and at home throughout, and this hotel put cleanline at top priority even before the pandemic. Onto more fun stuff! The staff here is top notch. So friendly and helpful and a pleasure to interact with. We brought our dog, Freddy Sue, this time around, and I would absolutely recommend this hotel to fellow dog owners looking to take their pup to a dog friendly town. It is a $70 charge which is steep, but was worth it to us in terms of peace of mind, especially with the off peak rate of this hotel on a Saturday to Sunday being $140. The beds are SO comfortable and I had such an awesome night's rest. Of course, the location cannot be beat. In the non-COVID times, we bopped from restaurant to restaurant drinking our way through the town and it was amazing to be able to come right back to the center of town as home base. For the price and guaranteed positive experience, I doubt we will ever stay anywhere else when we come to visit Ellicottville. Happy exploring!

Even the orange juice was little per-filled sealed cups like it came from a hospital cafeteria. They are remodeling the lobby but they should be doing something with the dated rooms. No charging stations and the couch was old and ratty. We will not be back to this place. UPDATE: I complained on my survey and was contacted by a customer service representative and they gave the company response "sorry for your bad experience we will try hard" which I replied, typical response, I don't believe you even read my additional comments. I said that there was a time when customers were compensated for bad experiences but now it is , we got your money, sorry. About a hour later a got a reply that half my money was being refunded. So at least they are trying so I changed my rating to 2 stars for the effort.

The shower setup was HORRIBLE, with a light sheet for a curtain and a broken shower head. The curtain did not stop the water from running out and filling the bathroom floor with water. I used all four room towels to soak this up and used the personal towel I packed. I had to hold the showerhead the entire time I showered. It was broken and would not stay up. I was left feeling disappointed for the price of the hotel is not worth the hassle.

Decor was fine, nothing special, but good enough. Heating/AC worked fine and overall this was a nice place to stay. Bathroom was clean and roomy. Now for a bit of nitpicking. The view from my room was to the front canopy. The room had no USB ports to use in charging my phone or any other modern electronics, at this point I have come to expect that all I need is a USB cord. The lighting in the bathroom was a bit dim to my liking. The breakfast overall was fine with some nice touches, however they were out of quite a few items: no regular tea, no yogurt, pancake machine not working, and no hot cereal. Holiday Inn Express is one of the more expensive hotels in Bradford, while the hotel is clean and not a bad place to stay, however they need to pay a bit more attention to the small details to justify the cost. We were using this area to check out the Allegany National Forest and a rest point en route to Niagara Falls. Bob and Carolyn are very nice and accommodating. They offer red/white wines at night between a few hours and serve breakfast in the morning. You pick what you want at checkin and and if you're staying multiple nights, you pick what you want at the end of breakfast for the next day. Lots of bread options. A downside is they don't offer fruits, except the juice which tastes fresh. Breakfast is served between 7-9 so late sleepers may need to adjust. You need to pick the exact start time though. The inn itself has many rooms and each have a private bath. We looked at the majority of them. The second floor rooms reminded me of a frilly dolly house look. They also had tons of bunny decorations for pre-Easter. I thought they were cute. No religious decor. They have queen beds and king beds. I recommend splurging the extra $10 for a king room. We switched our room from a room directly under the innkeepers, who stay on the third floor, (where we were put initially) to the "man" room on the first floor which was very big and had lots of windows and a fireplace. They even had complimentary bathrobes and some toiletries. There was enough space to layout our own toiletries and even a suitcase rack. There was only a small dresser and some hooks so if you had lots of clothes to hang and put away you'd want an additional arrangement. The bed is very comfortable and so were the pillows. The made our bed and changed our towels daily. The house was made in the late 1800s so it creeks. We were the only people there at time of stay so not sure how well you may hear others but I think sound travels well. The house and decor aren't modern but probably in line with the rest of the town judging by the restaurants. There is some general wear and tear you'll see but nothing significant. I wouldn't necessarily advertise this place as romantic or family friendly. More just for business travelers or couples with an agenda. There are games to play and some free snacks and drinks on the second floor. Bob will talk to you a few times if you're around so it doesn't feel like an anonymous vacation. He knows a lot about the area and the history. It kind of felt like we were staying at a distant cousin's or uncle's place more so than a hotel. We even told them when we were leaving for the afternoon or for dinner. We probably didn't have to, though. One odd thing is that there are signs all around telling you to do things like turn off the heater if you're sleeping or turn on the fan if you're showering. One sign they really should have is be careful of the middle foot on the couch because we stubbed our toes numerous times and it hurt like holy hell. Just a tip, if you're on the lower level you can easily hear sounds of cars on the road, even stereos. Usually not a problem later at night but it may wake you in the morning. The most renovated room is the quietest though but we didn't see that one since a guest was in it the first night we were there. It's a king room too. So overall I was happy here but not sure if the B&B style is really our thing.

The proprietors are a super friendly (maybe even a touch chatty for my taste, though that might have been the novelty of bringing my chatty four-year-old) retiree couple with an all-American, mildly kitschy taste in decor but a great eye for the kind of details that comfort weary travelers: a well-stocked complimentary snack bar and mini-fridge, a nice set of toiletries, a roll-top desk accompanied by a quirky set of recent magazines. We stayed in the Trieste room, and the window air con was little noisy and vibratey but fortunately it was cool enough outside to open the windows once we got the temp down to a sleepy place. The breakfast options were thoughtful and served quite elegantly. The creaky floors, spiral staircase and overall turn of the century vibe makes for a charming, calming and lovely getaway space -- I only wish we had more than one night to take advantage of the book-filled sitting room (with plenty of historical materials about the area) or even just chill on the porch swing.
