No desk chair in the rooms.
    Jordan S.

Seedy. I've heard that word used before when referencing a motel, but this is my first experience with one. Upon walking down the first floor hall to get to the elevators half way down that hall, there was the strong, pungent odor of marijuana smoke wafting throughout the air. Got to the room where I found a desk, but no chairs. So I pulled the couch/sofa from the other wall across the room and used it in the place of a desk chair to do some paperwork and work on my computers (see attached photos). Needless to say, my back was hurting after a couple of hours of sitting like this (again, see the photos). The third floor was filled with local firemen decked out in their helmets, boots, gloves, oxygen tanks, and fire resistant gear. One of them nodded his head at me, but did not say anything as I walked by them. The firemen seemed preoccupied with getting to where they were going. The fitness center was full (it is a very small room) of 9-10 year old male gang members. There were a total of three (3) with no adults present. They did not physically accost me, just spoke the way . . . you know . . . they speak. With no credit cards, debit cards, money or food on me in the workout shorts and t-shirt I was wearing they just moved around me for about 20 minutes of my 45 minute walk on a treadmill finally with one saying he had not eaten yet and they all left. There were two (2) televisions in the fitness center mounted on the wall with only one (1) broken remote control. The front plastic part was cracked off and I could not find the broken off pieces anywhere in the fitness center; on the floor, under the equipment, on a shelf or anywhere. So don't count on either of the televisions functioning to make your fitness workout any better. The motif of the rooms are of the late 90s, early 2000s. The toilet will not flush when you press the handle. It is one of those malfunctioning toilet handles where you must stand and hold the handle down for 5-10 seconds. Otherwise, you will be left with quite a site to see when you come back to use it a second time. Believe me, I know! Pressing the handle makes you think the toilet flushed, but not standing there holding the handle down until you see all your business completely flush down will leave you with a 'surprise' to look down at when you come back the next time. I plugged my electric razor and electric toothbrush in the plug in the bathroom to charge overnight because they were both dead. I woke up to both still being dead because the dual electrical outlet is broken. I reset the button, but it still did not work. You will need to use your mobile phone for an alarm because not only is there no chair, there is no alarm clock in the rooms. You'll need your phone to know what time it is and to wake up in the morning. Speaking to the front desk agent about any of the above meets with, "The technician has already left for the day".

    Nice sized room. Clean.

I'll give Hampton Inn at Woodbridge 4 stars. There were some small things I didn't like. I heard someone in the next room snoring. I had a crazy shift l worked 2200-0300 then in again at 0800-1600. I was exhausted. The snoring didn't keep me awake, but I know I heard it because I was coming in at 0300 nightly. Many things you can hear in the hall and next door rooms. Smoking allowed at the front door so there's people there blowing smoke I have to smell. I used to smoke. I understand..now that I don't, it's horrid to smell. Just move it further down from the main entrance. They had a decent breakfast I grabbed on my way out each morning. I liked the cold drink machine in the lobby. I liked the ice machines next to the elevators on every floor. Push a button and ice falls into your cup. I clinked a couple into my yeti and poured two gatorades in there from the cold drink machine each day to go to work.. (Ice cold all day, baby!! Woo!) And charged the Gatorade to my room. Im out the door. They had a nice pool I didn't get to use and a nice workout room I didn't get to use. Huge TV in the room I had no time to turn on. The people at check-in where really nice. I appreciated that. Large parking area and a couple restaurants next door along with a Dunkin. It was overall a good place to stay.

    1. Positive- Lots of restaurants nearby. 2. Not kid friendly. We stayed here for a hockey tournament and they just could not accommodate the families in an adequate manner. 3.Direct TV did not work. 4. If you want towels come down and get them yourself. I wouldn't return.

The housekeeping in this hotel leaves very little to be desired!! HORRIBLE is the first word that comes to mind!!! First of all the maid used her key and walked into our room every morning WITHOUT EVER KNOCKING! Who does that??? In my lifetime of traveling I've NEVER experienced this!! Extremely hard to communicate with her because she didn't speak English nor does she understand English!! When she made up our room which consisted of 2 people she never left enough shower towels. She would leave one shower towel. This went on for 5 days! The shower curtain in the bathroom smelled awful and had probably never been changed or washed! The room looks as if it was given a face lift but the lighting is horrible! They painted the walls dark and with the little bit of lightning they offer it's dark & dingy. I like a nice bright, clean room. The Direct TV was awful and was out several times during our stay. On one of those outages the engineer had to come and fix it. The rest of the hotel is dingy and dirty and in desperate need of a makeover!! The nicest part of the hotel is the lobby!! We are Hilton Honors Members and are totally disappointed with this stay. This hotel doesn't live up to the Hilton standards.

It's probably the largest hotel in the area and was hosting a film industry convention while I was there. I have stayed at this hotel a few times before and my rating improved slightly this time, especially given they gave me a courtesy upgrade owing to a shortage of King bed rooms which I reserved, but there are several issues that keep the rating nearly the same. 1. Reservations are still executed centrally via Marriott and the wait time could be a moment, but was easier to navigate through the prompts this time. Staff are friendly and efficient at the front desk when one checks in and out. 2. The hotel lacks amenities of a hotel this size. It does have a pool, but has no shop evident where one could buy a charger, toothbrush or aspirin if one forgot to bring the like. 3. The upgraded King Suite had no microwave or refrigerator. The dark and smooth tile on the bathroom floor can become dangerously slippery if the shower leaks water running across that floor and the towel laid down on the floor does not catch all the runoff. You may not see the water runoff on the dark tile and could lose your footing. Be careful. The toilet paper could benefit from better placement, making it less awkward to reach. You will hunt around for light switches on the walls and next to your bed the first time entering the dark room. The televisions and room a/c unit worked well, but the a/c heating unit was a bit noisy. 4. At well over two hundred dollars a night for a King room, there is no breakfast voucher for the cafe on the ground level to the right of the entrance. The cafe has a very basic menu and they serve your order as if it's to go in a bag, with boxes inside. If you specify that you are eating in your room, that would be fine. However, it's wasteful of paper and cardboard when a plate would suffice and be easier from which to eat. As a captive audience, it's the only thing immediately within reach. A few scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, twin pancakes and small coffee is nineteen bucks. Not bad, but could and would be better if competitive options were immediately available. This hotel benefits from a lack of real competition in the immediate area. The price points are a bit high for what you get and that is a consequence of a lack of real competition in the area, inflation notwithstanding. The friendly and respectful staff deserve your attention. The people who work here from the front desk to housekeeping have been great each time. 3.2 stars

The lobby is spacious, the staff is nice-ish, & the rooms are good-ish. But then you start to notice the details ... like: - The painters tape on the peeling ceiling. - The pillows with the consistency of almost-dry cement. - The dangerously large potholes in the parking lot. - The large security deposit required that didn't correlate with the quality of the hotel. & finally, the biggest offense of all: - The super pungent, overwhelming, inexplicable smell of sewage emanating from all drains in the bathroom. Most other lodging options in the area are either really expensive or really dodgy. This hotel is one of the only options that's sorta somewhere in the middle. I probably would not stay here again.

Where to start: The front desk was awful. You usually just stand there and wait for someone to come to the empty front desk. Even then, the person you see tends to operate as though you're annoying them or preventing them from doing something they really want to do. The lady gave us our keys and didn't bother to tell us where the elevator was, how to get to the room, where the pool is, or where the gym is. Must have overlooked it. The first room I had seemed to be occupied or not ready, based on the trash piled outside, my key not working, and noises I heard inside. The front desk then gave me a second room that had the latch on the door busted and completely missing AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT LOCK. I hated having to complain yet again, but basic security, at a minimum, should be there. The young lady finally "upgraded" me to a more spacious suite. The suite was fine, but the bathroom is disgusting, stained, and smelled bad. Not only that, I could hear the people in the other rooms arguing as well as the people outside, and kids crying from another room. Nightmarish. I honestly can't emphasize how badly I wish I had never stayed here, nor how very much you should stay away, and the certainty with which I will never stay here again.

After getting help to get out I reported the incident and they took the report refusing to give me a copy. I asked for a rubber mat to insure that those staying with me would not experience the same fate. They NEVER RESONDED. I needed to go to the ER and came back with a sling. I was not asked by anyone in the front desk, or higher if I was okay or asked if I needed anything. It was as if nothing ever happened. I walked over to housekeeping and asked them for a rubber mat for the tub. They said the hotel DIDN'T HAVE ANY. We needed to take TOWEL BATHS each day to avoid the hazard. When I got home I made several calls to inquire about liability information. I finally got a number they assured me could help me, but all I could get was a message machine and no one returned my call. We were also on the first floor and EACH NIGHT AROUND MIDNIGHT there was yelling and fighting in the hall and no one at the front desk, not far away, brought anything to order or called the police. This experience was the worst case of not caring about the safety of their customers, no concern for the customer and neglect of the customers forget about hospitality and customer service! Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend the Holiday Inn Express Suites Woodbridge by HIG in Avenel, NJ.
