The decor is so over the top but also so much fun! Service is excellent - and they take so much care and add creative presentation to every single dish. The sushi pizza with caviar is delish and the dragon roll we had was also delish. Priced for a special occasion- but worth it.

We all loved our dishes Our server was good and answered all our questions with ease Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the waitress at the table next to us was more attentive than ours Very nice decor inside and out

The ambiance is spectacular, and the service is wonderful. The presentation is immaculate. Portions are small in my opinion, but hey, check it out for a special occasion and have a fun time.

This is a very unexpected addition to the mystic dining scene! The menu is interesting and diverse, food is well prepared, wait staff and management are very attentive and the decor... awesome. When you step into the restaurant you definitely don't feel like you're in Connecticut any more. Really enjoyed what we tried and look forward to heading back for another meal. It is pretty pricey for the area, so be forewarned. However, when you look at the care and attention put into the presentation of the meals, it's all well worth the cost.

    Chilled wine!

Downtown Mystic locals..finally got in car for the 5 minute drive and tried it!!! So glad we did. From gracious greetings to easy choice of tables ( outside under canopy on a nice eve!), warm finger towels and amazing choices on large menu we had a lovely date night! Loved that our bottle of wine was chilled & served in a saki sever ( new to us!) and unique serving pieces were used for each beautiful & delicious dish. Took home lefuover Mongolian lamb duck and rice ..they filled the container). For sure look forward to many more visits ( ez parking, too). Thank you, all!

We were seated immediately in this intimate, Asian inspired restaurant and greeted by the most personable and upbeat server, Hannah. The restaurant is small (only 13 tables) with a full seated bar and dimly lit, which made it feel very comfortable and romantic. Hannah presented us with warm towels and water while the owner, Johnny, who also owns Peking Tokyo, served us 2 scallop, nori tacos. Incredible is an understatement for these tasty apps. We ordered the crab salad (Kani) and the peppered tuna with guacamole. I would've never ordered anything with guac, but wanted to try something different. Both were so delicious. We then ordered the Madai (Japanese Red Snapper) with Caviar and that literally was the most amazing fish I've ever had. We finished with 3 rolls, Crazy Tuna, Masons Island and the Kim and another glass of wine. The spicy tuna followed by a sip of delicious wine elevated the flavors to another level. The fish was extremely fresh and the service, impeccable. Looks like we found our new Date Night spot!

My kids loved the avocado and shrimp tempura rolls, which they both add so fast. My wife enjoys her scallops and ordered the scallon in black bean sauce. She said the scallop is fresh and tastes sweet. Couldn't help it but I did steal some of scallop and can confirm it was fresh and sweet. For a lunch special we ordered general tso and sesame chicken which were both crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and coated with a generous amount of sauce. The lunch special comes with a choice of soup. My kids chose the egg drop soup and I chose the hot and sour soup. Both soups were good. Why not 5 star? I thought the bathroom could use some improvement? At first my wife said it smelled like poop, and I really thought it was just her thinking that. Keep in mind that its 2 bathrooms, one for the ladies and one for the gents. When I stepped into the restroom for men, I immediately was overtaken by the smell of poop. They need to improve their ventilation system and also put in some air freshener. If it weren't for the bathroom issue, I'd definitely rate this place 5 stars. Food was amazing, would definitely come here again.

The menu had a little bit of everything ranging from Thai to sushi to Vietnamese, a very fusion type feel to it. The service was friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. Three items were ordered and tried. They consisted of the sushi nachos ($14.95), bao buns with chicken katsu ($12.95) and the Mystic River roll ($19.95). The nachos had diced tuna, sliced avocado, Pico de Gallo, topped with spicy avocado sauce and tobiko and served over fried wonton skins. There was a nice portion here. I thought they were going to be small wontons, but this was a pleasant surprise. There was a great ratio of flavors, and I really enjoyed the small dicing of everything. The bao buns were topped with sliced cucumbers, spring onions, carrots, and some type of sweet hoisin sauce it appeared. The chicken was very crispy and tasty. The bun was okay. It was a little tough. I did enjoy the sweet factor from the sauce to pair with the hot and crunchy chicken. The Mystic River roll had tuna, salmon, mango, as well as avocado topped with spicy mayo and was wrapped in a rice wrapper. This was alright. There was a lot of mayo present, which took away from the fish flavor, but it still was not bad. The rice wrapper was an interesting choice, but overall, okay. Will I go back? Probably.

No. Being located in Connecticut versus New Orleans, Georgia, Florida or Maryland does not give you a hall pass to sell over-priced seafood that is not up to edible standards/fresh. No crab seasoning dusting AT ALL. Crab was freezer burned with grit on the shell. I got the special sauce + the hottest level. Red water. So diluted and devoid of flavor. The "boil" was literally the consistency of water. That's not a boil. They likely have pots of unseasoned water that they ladle in the bag post steaming. So bland, zero love and not at all authentic. Also-- small russet potatoes were not cleaned prior to being cooked whole and are rigid/raw in the center. Over-cooked shrimp. Boil base has ZERO flavor and likely just MSG + coloring. Disrespectful. Wrong potatoes, wrong process, wrong chef, wrong seasonings, aged crab, wrong everything. My meal was 'to go'. If dined in?! Absolutely not. Nope. I would have left it on the table! Trust me-- I'm calling my bank and if they want to FaceTime the food in the trash... fine by me. I can't eat this. There is dirt in the sauce and all of the elements because they did not clean the crab, shrimp + potatoes. There were two rotten potatoes in my bag and freezer burned snow crab clusters... disgusting. Hit "The Boil" in NYC, "Juicy Crab" in MD-- even "Hook & Reel" in Orange, CT. That's where you get real Cajun flavor profiles and actual spice! This restaurant has zero business serving seafood boils. Really, really subpar.

Even though the name (Kawa) and menu have changed a bit over time, the heart of this place has never changed--and that's what keeps us coming back. One thing that truly stands out is that this is a family‑owned restaurant, and you can feel the care, pride, and love they put into their food and service. It adds a level of warmth and authenticity that you just don't get everywhere. Our group ordered a wide range of dishes, and not a single plate was left with food on it. Several guests tried the special fried rice, while one had the chicken fried rice. Everyone loved their meals so much that I even ordered an extra fried rice to take home. We also enjoyed a great selection of sushi, including a few rolls we had never tried before. Their sushi roll prices are the best in the area, yet the quality remains consistently excellent. The sashimi we ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and did not disappoint. One guest ordered the noodles with shrimp and said it was the best they'd ever had. To top it off, the restaurant has a surprisingly wide variety of Asian beers at very reasonable prices. The beers we tried were a big hit with the group and paired perfectly with the food. The service was another highlight of the night. Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, friendly, patient, and on top of everything our large party needed. Managing a group of 14 isn't easy, but he handled it flawlessly and made us feel well cared for. My fiancé asked him a lot of questions on some of dishes and he was very knowledgeable. After more than a decade of visiting, this birthday dinner reminded me exactly why this place has remained one of our family favorites. Delicious food, great prices, warm service, and the heart of a family‑owned business that truly values what they do. Highly recommend for both special occasions and everyday meals. There is plenty of parking for a big party and lots of space inside. They were packed and it was 5 days before Christmas.

That would've easily fix that dish and balanced it with a sweet and savory combo. The ramen was solid, egg was seasoned and cooked just right. The broth was good and mixed well with the chili oil. The pork was a good portion of meat with it being both lean and fatty in certain spots. Unfortunately I thought it was missing flavor/marinade, it was quite bland by itself. It was a bit above average for the area and prices were better than I've seen elsewhere. My husband and I dined in on a Saturday around 6 pm. The place was already slammed with online orders and it did not stop the entire hour or so we spent in the building. Everything is disposable even when dining in and eating out of styrofoam isn't my preference but ok. It's a small establishment and I would guess the overwhelming majority of their business comes through online ordering. So, order online rather than go in as there is no real ambiance. I tend to order pretty basic rolls and sashimi which I think really levels the playing field when it comes to sushi. So, my commentary on the sushi is just based on the quality of the fish. It was alright not particularly vibrant or fresh. But not bad either. The pieces of sashimi were literally the biggest I've ever seen. They were too big to comfortably one-bite. The spicy tuna roll was pretty good and didn't require soy sauce to make it palatable. The miso soup was also good. My husband loved their salad dressing. If we decide to order again I would skip the sashimi and probably order some à la cart nigiri to form my final opinion. The search for a truly killer sushi place around here continues.
