Worst crab boil I have ever had in my life! As someone who has a grasp on culinary affectation AND knows Lowcountry cuisine on account of my upbringing... No. Being located in Connecticut versus New Orleans, Georgia, Florida or Maryland does not give you a hall pass to sell over-priced seafood that is not up to edible standards/fresh. No crab seasoning dusting AT ALL. Crab was freezer burned with grit on the shell. I got the special sauce + the hottest level. Red water. So diluted and devoid of flavor. The "boil" was literally the consistency of water. That's not a boil. They likely have pots of unseasoned water that they ladle in the bag post steaming. So bland, zero love and not at all authentic. Also-- small russet potatoes were not cleaned prior to being cooked whole and are rigid/raw in the center. Over-cooked shrimp. Boil base has ZERO flavor and likely just MSG + coloring. Disrespectful. Wrong potatoes, wrong process, wrong chef, wrong seasonings, aged crab, wrong everything. My meal was 'to go'. If dined in?! Absolutely not. Nope. I would have left it on the table! Trust me-- I'm calling my bank and if they want to FaceTime the food in the trash... fine by me. I can't eat this. There is dirt in the sauce and all of the elements because they did not clean the crab, shrimp + potatoes. There were two rotten potatoes in my bag and freezer burned snow crab clusters... disgusting. Hit "The Boil" in NYC, "Juicy Crab" in MD-- even "Hook & Reel" in Orange, CT. That's where you get real Cajun flavor profiles and actual spice! This restaurant has zero business serving seafood boils. Really, really subpar. read more

I recently celebrated a big birthday dinner with a group of 14 friends and family at this restaurant which has been special to us for over 13 years. Even though the name (Kawa) and menu have changed a bit over time, the heart of this place has never changed--and that's what keeps us coming back. One thing that truly stands out is that this is a family‑owned restaurant, and you can feel the care, pride, and love they put into their food and service. It adds a level of warmth and authenticity that you just don't get everywhere. Our group ordered a wide range of dishes, and not a single plate was left with food on it. Several guests tried the special fried rice, while one had the chicken fried rice. Everyone loved their meals so much that I even ordered an extra fried rice to take home. We also enjoyed a great selection of sushi, including a few rolls we had never tried before. Their sushi roll prices are the best in the area, yet the quality remains consistently excellent. The sashimi we ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and did not disappoint. One guest ordered the noodles with shrimp and said it was the best they'd ever had. To top it off, the restaurant has a surprisingly wide variety of Asian beers at very reasonable prices. The beers we tried were a big hit with the group and paired perfectly with the food. The service was another highlight of the night. Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, friendly, patient, and on top of everything our large party needed. Managing a group of 14 isn't easy, but he handled it flawlessly and made us feel well cared for. My fiancé asked him a lot of questions on some of dishes and he was very knowledgeable. After more than a decade of visiting, this birthday dinner reminded me exactly why this place has remained one of our family favorites. Delicious food, great prices, warm service, and the heart of a family‑owned business that truly values what they do. Highly recommend for both special occasions and everyday meals. We celebrated my grandsons birthday here last night at 4pm. They made us wait till our whole party showed up of 4 adults and 2 children. It was a cold and rainy evening and we had to stand waiting for 2 people before being seated when there were very few people in the whole restaurant. We were eventually seated in the back where there was a bucket in the middle of the floor catching rain from a leaking roof. Service was OK although the tip was automatically added to the bill for a party of 6, again 4 adults, 2 children. I had a hibachi combo which was mediocre with overcooked shrimp and the rice was bland. The sushi seemed ok but not impressive. The seafood boil was overpriced. My husband and I got the cruise boil Cajun mild 100/10 first time getting a boil and was better then my expectation.

Coming from Chicago, there's definitely better better seafood boil obviously. But me and my fiancé decided to give it a try and got the hibachi noodles and the Hungry Feast special and it was mid. Mr Crab is in a convenient location with plenty of parking. We were looking for raw oysters, which they had and which were very enjoyable. They were served attractively on ice with cocktail sauce. We had 6 but wish we'd ordered 12. We also tried the black mussel boil with potato and corn. It came in a bag and the mussels were good in a spicy asian-seasoned butter. The potato and corn were fine. Shumai and one sushi roll hit the spot. The women waitstaff were very helpful and pleasant which made it very comfortable to dine there ~2pm. Amazing seafood. The flavor of the food was incredible. I'm usually very picky about my seafood, especially the boils, and this establishment did not disappoint. My Mom got the sushi combo deal and enjoyed all three of her rolls. It also came out so fast we were questioning if the food was actually ours! Usually when a restaurant knows their food is amazing they allow their customer service to slip. This doesn't apply to Mr Crab Cajun. The host was kind immediately. The waitress was pleasant, accommodating, and helpful. Other servers came to our table just to make sure we were alright! The environment was clean and welcoming. We came into this pretty starkly furnished restaurant to try the crab boil, we were pretty surprised that there was also a whole menu left over from the previous life of this restaurant as hibachi and sushi. While we didn't order any sushi, the orders from other diners did look good. We ordered crab rangoons, house special noodles, and a juicy cruise special. Prices were very reasonable and the food came quickly. Unfortunately the crab rangoons were not crispy fried, so they were pretty soft, and filled only with sweet cream cheese, no discernable crab meat or flavor. The house noodles were plentiful and well balanced between the meats and noodles. Not overly garlicky either, just enough to lend flavor. The juicy cruise special was a good size for 1 or sharing between 2 people. I got mine Mr Crab Special seasoning - mild. I might give extra mild a try next time to see if they can reduce the cayenne more. I'm a little confused by the hard boiled eggs in the crab boils, but everything was well cooked and delectable. I'm also glad there's a bucket on the table and a bib. My biggest issue with the crab boil was the lack of choice in composition. I'll still go back and give it a second go, however. read more

The lobster tail in my seafood boil was rubbery & tasteless, shrimp tasted good but flavor could be stronger, the clam tasted bland & it's the tiny clams from Chinese buffet rather than being the tastier bigger clams often seen from seafood boil. We chose the "all of the above" seasoning, it feels like that the food was pre boiled in water & seasoned at the last min, instead of boiled in the seasoning of choice. Food came out really fast, like 5 min fast, but overall it was lacking flavor. The waitress was nice but did not take notes & missed the appetizer that we ordered, it never came. The white fish & chips tasted great, however the fish kept falling out of the fry batter casing after I bit it open, kind of weird. Wait staff was very courteous and efficient. I ordered a miso soup and black pepper tuna, both delicious. Son ordered a seafood combo, which he said was "great@. Wife ordered a chicken hibachi (which I ate) and it was delicious. The sweet potato rolls and snow crab rolls, ordered by the grands were all consumed. Prices make this place a treat more than a regular stop, but my idea of a little pricy and yours may differ. We came in the late afternoon to thus place , expecting it would be crowded, given the reviews, but the staff seemed to be both putting the tables and chairs away, and preparing for the next meal. I thought of my favorite Yogism : "Nobody goes there anymore, its too crowded." Maybe I'm not hip to trendy restaurants, but it seemed the menu options used unfamilar jargon and with poorly described cooking style and details, The choices seemed like tthey erre collected from menus from about 3 or 4 very different restaurants, all priced somewhat higher than what you would expect from a causual neighborhood place in a humble rather déclassé. My dish, a bit salty, was ok , nothing to write home to the folks in the bayou. My wife, perhaps, in reaction to my profligate habits, instead order ed "a boil" from the cheapest corner of the menu ,. ...a mess of skinny crusty craw fish with some Indistinct vegetables. All I can say, to me, it was like eating from the bait bucket. We were the only customers until a couple other tables came in Service: quick, seated immediately and served quickly after we ordered Ambiance: very clean restaurant however the lighting color was a cool tone very much like an office - restaurants should always go for warm lighting, 4000k-3000k. Excellent frying technique - the oil must have been at the perfect temp and perfect cook time because the oysters were tender, the batter wasn't oily at all! A++. The aioli type sauce was well balanced as well. Fresh tomato and lettuce. The Cajun fries had good flavor and cooked perfectly however very salty, could do with half as much salt to be perfect. The boils were cooked perfectly and all the meat was tender. The Dungeness crab was all fresh and tender. Seasonings, spot on. Points of improvement : change the lighting to a warm tone.
