On the main road up to Pahala next to Kamei Gas

Happy to have some options out here in Pahala! On the way back from Kilauea A local said the Korean chicken is so that's what we got! And the lady that came after us got that too. Pahala pops are a nice cold treat too. They are made locally by a woman in Pahala so buying them supports local startups! Let me just say that the Korean Chicken is maybe the best thing I've eaten on the island - really though. So bomb. The poke was on point also - needless to say there was nothing left over at the end! If you are on your way back to Kona or if you just want to check out a nice town on the South Side of the big island, check out Pahala and stop by Good to go Grindz - you wont be disappointed!

We were pleasantly surprised by this family-run food truck! On top of lovely service, it was tasty food with great prices. Would absolutely visit again!

Really good spot, especially after a day of exploring the island. They make everything to order, and they're generous with their portions as well. We had to eat off the hoods of our cars but it adds to the experience.

They have ample parking out front, and as this is situated in a slightly more rural part of the island, I wouldn't expect them to be extra extraordinarily busy. They are also right across the street from a renowned bakery for Malasadas (donuts with no hole). Service was quick and kind throughout our stay. Huli Huli Chicken (7/10) - they give a massive entire half chicken! As expected, the thigh and wings were super tender. I will know, that this chicken breast was probably one of the most tender chicken breast that I've ever had. SOOO JUICY!!! the meat itself was super succulent and each bite was very tasty. - my only complaint is regarding the flavor. Huli Huli chicken is usually barbecued outside, with a pretty crisp and dark exterior. However, this chicken's exterior was quite pale, and I'm unsure if they grilled it. It's possible that it is a baked chicken. Overall, the spot is unique because it claims it's the southern most restaurant of the USA. The Huli Huli chicken is super tender, like the exterior signature barbecue flavor that other local spots have.

While they appear to be a casual, local, hippy establishment (and they are). The food and wait is worth every penny, (and pennies are more valuable now). You will hear live music when you approach building. It's bright and colorful, open air and you can feel your inner artist being inspired. The place is packed but you find a seat and listen to the laughter, singing, and sizzles from the kitchen. It's small and bundles of fruit seam to just be around everywhere. Your server gives you a menu and you think. "Oh wow! That's a bit pricy." But you're all in. Considering this place is proud of its farm to table reputation. Yes, nothing goes to waist here and it as fresh as you can possibly get. So you order and wait. And you wait, and you wait. Finally the plate arrives and it's beautiful. A paradise of fruit, veggie filled omelet and some things you're not sure if you can eat them or if it's just decoration. (You can eat them) Have you ever heard of a cranberry hibiscus? I'm not a fan of salsa with my eggs but they make their own from scratch and they also sell it. So I have to at least try it. "What is in this! Magic?" Before you know it a whole days life experience has just happened. There were ups, there were downs, and surprises. Not just from the food but the whole surroundings. Let's just say nothing was left on the plate and I have stories to tell. Our server was the sweetest older lady who you can tell just loved her job and people. In fact all the workers were just rays of sunshine and smiles. Did I just have breakfast or walk into a magical world where time stood still and surrounded me in song and colors. I swear I don't do substances, it's just that good.

We were, unfortunately, spending the day at the emergency room with a family member while on vacation and popped out for lunch. We walked the 0.8 miles here to get some exercise and unfortunately it did sprinkle while we were eating. Staff was friendly fly and gave us a sample of their menu item Butter which was soft serve vanilla ice cream with lilikoi sauce--delicious! I ordered the crab cake salad and the hubs got the surfer boy burger. The crab cake was enormous and delicious--deep fried crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. It came with lots of fresh romaine, cucumber slices, carrots and tomatoes with an aoli and balsamic dressing. Very good! But very hard to eat with a cheap plastic fork. The hubs said his burger was fantastic!

A solid neighborhood spot with a few standouts and some room to grow…read more We've been to Kaleo's a few times now, and we'll definitely keep coming back. It's close, there's always parking, and it's got that laid-back, local energy where you can laugh loud and no one's going to shoot you a look. It does get loud inside, but in that kind of way that makes it feel like everybody's having a good time, not like you're in a cafeteria. Just don't expect a quiet dinner conversation, unless you're reading lips. The service? Always sweet, always kind. Lily (I think that's the correct spelling!) has taken care of us more than once and she's a gem... warm, attentive, and easy to chat with. She's the kind of person who remembers what you ordered last time and tells you honestly what's good. As for the food... Bacon Blue Burger: My husband had this last time and it was yum. Juicy, flavorful, hits all the right rich notes without being greasy. That one's a solid order. Ribs: The barbecue sauce was really good... but the ribs themselves were dry and overdone. Not terrible, but not what I'd call a win either. If they could just dial in the texture, that sauce would carry it home. Kalbi Short Ribs: Best thing on the menu so far. Tender, rich, and full of flavor. Get those. Mashed Potatoes: "All mash" is the move. They're creamy and comforting... total comfort food. Hamburger Steak: Another standout. Probably one of the best in the area. Classic done right. Thai Chicken Pasta: Watch out... it's got some serious heat! Spicy, but good. Not for the faint of tongue, but worth it if you're into that kind of kick. Lilikoi Fizz: Really tasty but heavy on the lilikoi. If they eased up and added a little more club soda, it would be more balanced. Desserts: * Lava Cake was good... warm and classic. * Chocolate Decadent Cake was just okay. It comes fridge-cold (probably so it doesn't melt), but I feel like if they let it sit out for ten minutes before serving, it would be way better. * Brownie Sundae was yum, according to my husband... and I trust his dessert radar. All in all, Kaleo's is the kind of place you root for. You want them to keep getting better, and they mostly are. The hits are worth coming back for, and even the misses aren't deal-breakers. We'll be back, and we're excited to keep trying more of the menu.

We did the 3 meat combo: Garlic Chicken, Short Rib, and Panko Fish w/ adobo fried rice + sesame corn on the side. I typically would order a mac salad and garlic shrimp but wanted to switch it up randomly for this occasion. Also grabbed two of the Hawaiian Sun drinks for $3.50 per drink which was expensive, but convenient, as we were driving out to catch the sunset and star gazing immediately after picking up our food. If I were to reorder, I'd do the same 3 piece combo, highlighting that the panko fish was surprisingly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside so this was a great option. I'd probably go with mac salad and give the kimchi fried rice a try. A friend did let us try the purple sweet potato salad side. This was a nice change of pace similar to the traditional mac salad.

I ordered the Animal Burger expecting something a bit more flavorful, but it ended up tasting pretty ordinary. Some might disagree and absolutely love it, and while it wasn't anything too special for me, it's still a solid, friendly spot. I'd still recommend it if you need a quick, convenient stop for a casual meal!
