Absolutely delicious! I love and grew up with yoshinoya and currently live in Northern California where yoshinoya is no where to be found. Finding Hana Kitchen to doordash while in Santa Barbara was heaven sent! I had the beef bowl- delicious. Slightly sweeter and more tender than Yoshinoya. Husband had the chicken bowl, also delicious but we both liked the beef better. Came with pickled ginger and fire cucumbers- also delicious! Hana Kitchen was disappointing the first few times I went, but now it is one of my favorite spots in IV. It is always fairly crowded, so pro-tip: order on Grub Hub and pick it up right when you get there! It will save you a long wait. Speaking of being crowded, this place is clearly a go-to for UCSB students. The prices are hard to beat and the portions are generous! The first few times I ordered a "regular" bowl, but ended up getting too much rice. The "mini" bowl is the way to go! You get a lot of food but not an overwhelming amount of rice (and pay only about $5). The menu is very basic, consisting of bowls and tacos, as well as a variety of smoothies. The bowls include rice (extra cost for brown rice), veggie stir fry, and a meat. I usually get the chicken teriyaki but I've heard the vegan option is quite good. The adjacent toppings bar includes scallions, pickled veggies, teriyaki, and spicy mayo. Sometimes this bar can be a bit unkept, which is likely the result of the high volume of customers coming in and out. The seating is also kept to a minimum, so consider just getting it to go. Hana always hits!! But, tonight I ordered from DoorDash and picked the more veggies less rice option for 1/2 of my bowls, but they seemed to be made the same. Once in a while, I come here because I'm craving teriyaki. I order a mini bowl of chicken, rice and vegetables for $5.50. Cheap (sorta), quick (not really), and delicious (debatable). Hana Kitchen is located along Pardall, near Blenders. Most of the seating is outside, with a couple of tables inside. The line isn't too bad, but the wait can take long, even for simple orders of boba. Hana is especially popular at night, they don't close until 3AM Friday and Saturday. Service is a little better at their Downtown Santa Barbara location, but the food tastes the same. The teriyaki sauce is made from scratch, vegetables are nicely stir-fried, and the meat is freshly grilled. A regular size ($8.50) is pretty generous, enough for leftovers. The black milk tea is reasonably priced and very sweet, almost sickening once. There's a lot of boba places in IV, but Hana is one of the decent ones. A lot of organizations at UCSB fundraise here, and Hana also runs a couple of promotions, like $1.75 Taco Tuesdays or Buy One Get One Free boba. They also have a pickup/delivery app on the App Store and Google Play, where you can order ahead. I have yet to try it though. read more

She wrote down a specific note to make sure the food is vegan and the receipt literally says vegan chicken. After all these signs, they still gave her real chicken. A classic college food stop. I could definitely see why this place is popular for UCSB kids. It's a lot of food and it's well priced. There's also veggies which is a plus. There's also a lot of seating for large groups, and an interesting array of side dishes (banchan). I got a large beef bowl which was plenty of food. Make sure to get the sauces on the right side of the cashier! The teriyaki sauce definitely elevates the flavor. The beef in my opinion was pretty fatty, but they gave me so much of it that I was able to eat most of the meat without feeling like I ate a lot of fat. The stir fried veggies were delicious! It's hard to find veggies at to-go Asian places, but you get a lot when you order a large bowl. Don't know if I'll come back unless I'm in the mood for veggies and something simple! As much as I love this as the ONLY faux meat I have ever eaten, truly, I cannot even consistently give it a review because as many times as I've had it go well I've gone in to be told they are "out of vegan" and it can last for days. Consistently good food, consistently horrible service. Same at every location. You think after years of complaints for their terrible service they would change something. Unfortunately it seems they're incompetent or maybe just unwilling to improve. I would never go back if It wasn't one of the only places supporting my current diet. Recently (starting around summer 2023), though, the quality of their ingredients plummeted, they stopped hiring students, they refuse to take your order in person (making you use a kiosk instead), and still ask for a tip. Yummm yummm Yummm! This place is a good spot for late night cheap cravings! One of the best teriyaki bowls you can get. I usually get the mini and it's only about 5.45. I find it better getting the mini than the regular since you can add rice for free and it's more filling for me. And this place opens until 1am or 3am on the weekends! Location: Walking distance from UCSB. Situated around other small restaurants. Walking is ideal versus driving since there aren't that many parking spots Inside/Outside: Honestly it was gross. Tables inside & especially outside were sticky & had crumbs on them. There was also a BUNCH of flies inside too. (gross!) Customer Service: Wasn't too great. More of a "order what you want & leave" atmosphere. The workers there didn't really greet me & most of the time it felt like they wanted their shift to be over or something. But what can I say it's college students working over summer. Drink: I got the black milk tea with boba. The boba was okay but I felt like the tea was a little too sweet for me. One thing I liked however was the sizes bc they're pretty big even for a regular size. We get it, Hana Kitchen. You're edgy. You play a ton of hip music with curse words and your staff goes "NUMBERS 6, 5, AND 1, YOUR SHIT IS READY!" Don't take your kid here if you shelter them. It's always a long wait to get the tiniest chicken bowl (which is now like, $5 for a tiny serving that should tide you over between meals.) Everything is always fresh, which I've enjoyed about eating their stir-fried veggies and charbroiled teriyaki chicken. The chicken definitely gets burnt a lot, but hey, it's fresh, right? When I was there earlier today, the cashier was just hanging out and joking with his friend, causing a 10 person line to build up. Cool that you're well-liked, but uh...maybe wait until the line dies down? The milk teas are always too sweet for my taste, and the boba pearls don't play well with slush. If Wake Cup and Ice Milk Company were closed, it's not the worst option to go to, but I wouldn't pick Hana first. It's a popular place for their bowls, though, and I admit I occasionally crave it. We ordered online but sbmenus wasn't letting us add boba to our drinks so we called and asked them to add boba which they ok'd AND even left a note on the order to remind them but there was no boba. We also ordered two half chicken half beef bowls but we got one chicken and one beef. I called after we got the food. They would only give us free drinks the next time we visit. Pretty good stuff! I always order the large vegan plate. The vegan "chicken" is quite tasty, and thankfully not too chicken-like which would put me off. The meal comes with plenty of veggies and rice, and the portion size is quite large and filling. There is a condiment bar where I load up on sriracha and other goodies. The service is pretty efficient and you never have to wait too long, which is good considering that they can get pretty busy there at times. Hana Kitchen is a good place to be. The interior has a fun vibe and the outside has nice long concrete tables with padded row seating. The green plants on the tables are fake, funny! I ordered a raspberry ice slush tea and it's not tea, it's just very sweet raspberry flavored ice. It's like a gas station slushie. The black milk tea is a better bet, but also super sweet. The regular chicken bowl is $7.50 and it's actually pretty huge. You could probably get away from the small one. It comes with grilled chopped chicken (definitely not all white meat, there's some fat in there) and a carrot-lettuce-cabbage?-broccoli mixture on top of white rice. There's a little bar on the side where you can add chipotle mayo, teriyaki sauce, Sriracha or soy sauce along with some extra toppings like spicy pickled cucumbers. The service was quick and the people working were incredibly friendly. I enjoyed how one can refill teriyaki and spicy mayo sauce at the food bar near the cashier. As for the food, it was decently delicious with a good amount of both meats and vegetables. The boba, however is probably one of the best in Santa Barbara, hence the four star rating.
