Always good food and service are great and dependable. We like a good neighborhood bar. Nice to be able to walk there!

I had to pick at least one star but really this should be zero stars. We used to love this place but not anymore! My sister and mother have been going here most Saturdays for a few years until today when I went with my elderly mother and sister. I was only two bites into my burger when my sister noticed that the bartender didn't give her all of the keno tickets she had just played. She got back to her seat and noticed she only had two of the seven tickets. So she asked the bartender to check the machine and he said he gave them all to her. She said No she only has two of the seven. He insisted he gave them all to her and proceeded to get loud over the bar. My sister asked him to check the trash can and he made a huge show of pulling the trash bag out of the barrel (from behind the bar) then coming over to our seats and DUMPING THE TRASH OUT AT HER FEET! She looked and VOILA!! There's all 5 tickets IN THE TRASH that he dumped out that came from BEHIND the bar. So my sister said something like "I told you they were there" and this bartender starts loudly declaring that SHE MUST HAVE PUT THEM IN THE TRASH (which was behind the bar the whole time). That's when I tried to get between them and faced my sister and told her that people make mistakes and this is over. But nope, the bartender wasn't having it. He continued to get louder and now started to chest bump me and telling me to mind my own business. At that point the other bartender came around the bar and told me to leave because I was creating a scene. We left immediately since my mother was now completely flustered. As we left, I tried to settle up my tab but the bartender pushed me away from the bar and out the door while both called us names and yelled F bombs at us until we were out on the sidewalk and of sight. Needless to say we'll NEVER come back to Hancock Street Tavern again. Ive never been treated so horribly before. Do yourself a favor and count your money and count your tickets when you go here. PS. The food and service was quite good. The cheeseburger au judelicious,served hot and juicy with huge portions. Probably best cheeseburger I've ever had in Quincy. Take my advice though, get it to go. read more

The bartenders here have always been nice. The pizza is good. Clam chowder isn't bad either. Certain items lack flavor like the chicken parm sandwich. But the buffalo chicken nachos are sizable and good too! Nothing here is going to blow your socks off, but it's easy to find on Hancock St in Wollaston. Some specials going on now - Until 4 pm they have a $5.99 special for a sandwich, fries and soft drink. Or from 2-4 pm, a $2 cheese pizza with $1 toppings with the purchase of a beverage. Hard to beat! The Hancock Tavern has some competition now with Assembly opening up down the street in North Quincy. If you want to save a few bucks or avoid the crowds, definitely come here. read more

Absolutely terrible service with very rude staff. Food was very mediocre and had a weird leftover taste. There's also a giant Blue Lives Matter flag outside their building which made me very uncomfortable and I find it inappropriate that they would even bring politics into their establishment like that. I definitely recommend visiting other bars/restaurants in the area as Quincy is very diverse with tons of other great options. Don't even bother wasting your time or money here. read more

If you like Keno, Scratch Tickets, booze and TV, this is a good place to be! I'm not a big fan of gambling so I can careless of the lottery; but I did my share of scratching and picking numbers since my friend didn't want to leave me out. Just ate here during lunch time on a Saturday. Ordered two burgers: one medium and one medium rare with a side of mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, we waited about forty minutes before the food came out. On top of that, my medium rare burger was cooked essentially medium well (pretty much brown) and my boyfriends medium burger was cooked well done. It was burned on the outside. Burger itself really had no taste, and mashed potatoes were watery and bland. Prices are wrong compared to what we were charged. My burger showed as 8.99 but said $10 on the menu. My boyfriends burger showed up as $10.99 but also said $10 on the menu. Nice staff but our whole sit took an hour for some pretty mediocre food. Definitely NOT going back for food but maybe would try drinks if there was a next time. read more

The atmosphere of this place is fantastic, baked scallop special was great, steak tips delicious, beer was good. The side dishes not so much. Cole slaw (ok) fries (also just fine) mashed potatoes (I had one bite, they were super dry and weird and salty) vegetable (aggressively bad, tasted really chemically). My aunt and I go to the Hancock Tavern at least once or twice a week. The food is very good and the staff are wonderful except for Nancy she is nasty and should not be at a job around people. We were there last night and we split a sandwich and for the side my aunt got the side Caesar salad and when we got the bill they charged 3.00 for it I told our waitress that no where on the menu does it say anything about 3.00 extra for certain sides. Nancy came out of no where and was so rude and said she needed to change the menu. It killed me to leave a tip knowing our waitress had to split it with Nancy. I called the restaurant today to speak to the manager who is Nancy's boyfriend and he was just as nasty. Hopefully the owner reads these reviews. read more

Hancock Tavern is conveniently located in the Wollaston section of Quincy, Massachusetts. Where the former Well's Pub stood (a place you didn't go, unless you knew what you were stepping into) is now a very inviting place known as Hancock Tavern!! Well's was way OVERDUE for a make over, so when two long time friends and co-workers with more then 15 years of experience in the Quincy restaurant and bar scene started on this project it was almost destine to be great!!! HT offers up some classic pub favorites and is a great place to meet up with friends and co-workers to have a few drinks. The mood is very relaxing and fun, the waitstaff is very pleasant too! 6 huge 55'' plasmas make watching the game here fun and they also have a jukebox with a wide selection to choose from. Offering up the classiest (and possibly the cleanest) bar in the city and with fast service, friendly wait staff, and delicious food, you'll be satisfied with our bar and grill. read more

This is really a 2.5 star review, but (as Im sure you know...if you dont well then..wtf?) I dont have that option. I've been going to the Hancock for a few years now as some friends of mine live in the NQ area and for a while it was a great place with decent folks, hot bartenders (yes, I said hot...deal with it!) and really good service, but my last trip there on 6/26 was just terrible. Myself and 3 friends arrived around 11:45 or so and the place was pretty empty as is prone to happen around 9:30, but for some reason the music was amazingly loud. Amazingly loud. We sat at the bar and it was incredibly filthy. As in this bar hadnt seen a wet towel in 3-4 hours and that just drives me crazy. The bartender was a crusty asshole who really didnt give a shit. We ordered drinks after he turned to the 4 of us and said: - "You all set?" -Gee...let me think. Im sitting at the bar and there's nothing in front of me so Im gonna say no. He plopped the 4 beers down and went about his business. A few minutes later 4 young, african-american folks walk in, are carded at the door and let through. Well they went to order drinks and for some reason Mr. Crusty Prick decided to hassle them and rattle off some bullshit about needing 4 ID's for 4 drinks when they've already been carded. Ugh. Well naturally the youths disagreed and at the drop of a hat the barkeep told them to take a hike. Said youths took their case to one of the managers who asked the keep why he wouldnt serve them and he had no legitimate answer, but again said no drinks. It was just incredibly rude and basically racist. The place has gone downhill over the last year which is probably why we dont go there anymore. If you do go then choose a weeknight. read more

Great little tavern in the Wollaston area of Quincy. Lots of TVs in any direction so you always have a good seat to watch whatever game is on. Our waitress was great the night we went in and believe it or not she attended all the tables herself. She was speedy with everything and really sweet. Came back to check on us here and there too. Can't complain about that. We had an appetizer sampler and split a steak tip sandwich. I'd say it was pretty delicious for bar food standards. I'd return. read more

I went here yesterday for the taping of the Quincy Public Access cooking show phenom, Tasty Licks and was pleasantly surprised. A few people clued me into the fact that this place went through a major overhaul a while back and from the descriptions of the old place, I'm glad I didn't see the "before." Pretty much a typical pub - bar seats a fair number and the stools are comfy. They had about six brews on tap including Pumpkinhead, HoeGarden, Long Hammer, and Bass. I had to have (of course) the Pumpkinhead. My goal each year is to drink pumpkin beer to the point where I'm sick of the taste (usually mid-November)...and then, by the fall of the following year...I'm back on track and ready for more! We ordered from the regular menu and I settled on the grilled cheese. There were 5 of us...and all 5 meals didn't come out at the same time. It was slightly annoying only because you didn't want to start eating before we all had our meals, but when you have a grilled cheese congealing in front of you and people are getting their orders one at time every 5 minutes or so...and said grilled cheese came out first...I had to dig in or eat soggy bread. The grilled cheese was pretty good ($4.95 from the kids menu - score!). It had fresh cheddar on a nice, thick white bread. But the best part...were the fries. They were some of the best fries I've had in awhile. They were the big, thick cut kind...with a crunchy yummy shell. So good. I know this isn't what people read these for - but the bathroom was exceptionally nice. I mean, you just don't think you're going to find yourself walking into the cleanest of bathrooms at any type of bar or pub...but heck, the place even smelled like it had just been cleaned. I was really impressed. A clean bathroom says a lot about an establishment in my opinion. Anyway - a nice little place to grab a few beers and have some good eats. Solid. read more

I have driven past the Hancock Tavern no less than 8376 times but for no reason in particular, have never tried it. Thought it was a good time to fix that and was very happy I did. I am 100% partial to pub/tavern type establishments. It's usually low on pretentiousness and high on personality and character. This was certainly the case here. The bar is really nice, great HD tv's everywhere (will definitely be back to watch a game) and the service was quick and super friendly on a busy Friday night. My Greek salad with grilled chicken was one of the best I have had. No skimping on the feta and olives here, the chicken was tender and well seasoned and the portions were so large I couldn't finish. My brother got a burger and fries and said it was awesome. The other patrons in on the night we went were really cool and friendly too. We had a really great night. I only regret not coming in sooner, and plan on making up for lost time. read more

It took a bit for the bartender to warm up to us you could tell she was use to the usual crowd around that time. She also screwed up my wife's beer order then acted like it was my wife's fault. The only thing lacking at the HT is a dropslot for my mail. I've been a regular at the Hancock since Noah had a boat, and feel comfortable and welcome there. A great pub menu..plus some incredible meat loaf and specials...whether it's Rob or Andy at the helm. These guys do magic in a small kitchen. The clientel is well... 'interesting' (to say the least) and, for the most part, friendly, local Quincy folk. I'm a day-sider, but took a date in one night and it was a frigging zoo. The jukebox pushed us out, as it is just too loud for the size of the place. Great staff, very friendly, attentive and upbeat, but, as in any place, a few acceptions, but, hey, that's gonna happen..people are people, behind a bar or not. I always recommend it others and now, my son, the next generation, takes a seat next to his 'ol man at The Hancock. Great job, fun place. read more

Went in or the first time. Its got a harsh locals only walk in entrance but seat yourself! The server was nice and we both had the pilgrim wrap. My friends and I just discovered the Hancock Tavern and their draft vessels. The place is small, so it fills up fast, but a table vessel and a couple of appetizers makes for a good night out. The food is excellent, the services is good, and the beer is cold, and there are TVs everywhere! This is definitely the place to go to stay local and watch a game. I moved into the neighborhood a couple of months ago and have been to this bar twice. I ordered the fish & chips the first time I went. Nice, generous portion. The waitress offered both onion rings and fries. The batter on the onion rings is phenomenal. Last night I drank a Black Velvet beer with a President's burger (Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato) was pretty boring and not presidential at all. I asked for BBQ sauce to see if it would add a little zing and it didn't. The bread was toasted, next time (if there is one) I'll ask them not to. It was hard and the bacon was almost burnt. Again, the best part of the meal were the onion rings. I'll keep coming back since it's less than a five minute walk from my apartment and the prices are very affordable read more

I go to this place every once in a while and it's usually pretty decent. But last night I went by to grab dinner and got the baked scrod dinner. It was overcooked and the corn that came on the side was cold. the breadcrumbs on the top were burnt and my friend who was with me is a restaurant manager said that it was questionable to serve that plate when it was that burnt. I didn't complain because frankly the bartender never asked how it was. He was more concerned about my beer refill. If you go here, get a burger or pizza or some fried seafood (simple orders) and save yourself the stress of a bad cheap dinner. The guy in the kitchen aint a master chef. read more

Hancock Tavern is a small bar in Wollaston. It's cute! There are booths inside that makes it rather cozy. I went on a Wednesday night, so it was definitely not very alive. There are some regulars in there watching a game. About $6 for a mixed drink. They serve food too, but I didn't get any that night. The Hancock is, as Yelp's 3-star rating says, A-OK. It has beer, decent food, big TVs with the local games. Service is friendly enough, prices are pretty low. It's a good bar, and it's down the street from my house. I enjoy coming here. All that said, if I didn't live down the street, is there any reason I'd come here? Probably not. I'm also disappointed that they don't serve Guinness on tap (they do offer it from the pub draught can though, and for cheap, so it's some consolation). read more

I recently moved to this section of Quincy and if I were to pick a bar in walking distance of my house that I thought would be worth going into it would be Hancock Tavern. My newer roommate suggested it one evening when I said all I really wanted for dinner was a burger. We walked from our apartment and were seated right away. The guy at the door was very pleasant and hospitable. There were alot of regulars there from what I could tell but it only made me kinda want to be a regular. There is nothing like walking into a bar and everyone saying hey and your beer is already being poured for you... Anyways, I did end up ordering a burger. They have a large selection of burgers to chose from and they all sounded great but I ended up get the choice with 3 kinds of cheeses. I wish I could remember what it was called sorry. The food came out in good time and the burger was great. It really hit the spot. It's nice to go somewhere craving something and get just that. The only thing I will complain about is our waitress that night wasn't very attentive at all. There was a time where we couldn't locate her for 10 mins anywhere in the front of house. Later when we were ready to get the check, pay and leave, she was busy sitting at a table with a large group of guys chatting away with her arm around one of the guys. We actually asked the other waitress nearby for our check because we didn't want to sit there any longer. I won't not go back just because this one girl thought it was more important to canoodle with her boyfriend during her shift than take care of her tables. TL;DR? Hit or miss. Overpriced. Seat yourself. Glorified dive-bar with a better-than-average interior cornering the pub-food market in an area with mostly Asian cuisine. Trivia night can be fun. Best entree? Chicken marsala. Basic tap beer/liquor/wine selection, nothing special. Biggest downfall? Service. If you're drinking heavily, it's probably awesome! The only reason I keep coming back here is because it's close to my mom's and she likes it, and when I visit her and my brother meets up with us we always end up there because: convenience. Also, mom treats us. Because she's mom and she loves us. I've been here about a half dozen times maybe? First time I went, we were a party of five. Two ordered sandwiches, two ordered entrees, one ordered a salad and we shared a a couple of idiot-proof appetizers - one fried and some nachos I think. The appetizers were standard. My brother's sandwich wasn't what he ordered though. He ordered a roast beef I think but got corned beef? Or possibly a reuben and got roast beef. I don't know, whatever. It was wrong. He asked the waitress, waited 15 more minutes for his food (it was busy). When she finally returned the order was wrong again. She said the cook was new and suggested he would probably be fired. My brother waited another ten minutes or so, and when the waitress brought the food out again it still wasn't right. He gave up and ate it anyway. His girlfriend's salad contained frozen cucumber. Frozen and inedible. I think she complained and they had to run out to the local supermarket to get non-frozen vegetables. I think they comped my brother's sandwich or something. Another time, we tried the Irish nachos. They were ok. They're fries, basically. With a little cheese. Not worth the money. My mom really likes this fish that they do with swiss cheese and breadcrumbs. Husband likes their steak. Their burgers aren't bad. It's all just basic, overpriced stuff. The ambiance isn't that awesome that it's some fabulous night out and you don't mind paying for the food though. I think they updated their menu within the last few months. Suddenly all the sandwiches and burgers have unique names but no actual unique features or ingredients - still very basic stuff. One of the things that has happened pretty frequently is that there's only one waitress. They like to understaff, or they have unreliable staff or high turnover. So often you don't get drinks refilled, or the service is inattentive, though the staff themselves are usually pretty friendly and apologetic. There just aren't enough of them. Last night I went with my mom and my husband and out-of-town in-laws. We all ordered different things. It was busy when we came in (around 5:45 on a Sunday). It took maybe 45 minutes to an hour to get our food, and during that time the place emptied out by 1/2-3/4s. The single waitress came around to apologize to us and say that the cook was by himself and they had a lot of takeout orders. Trivia night can be fun. I've gone with a group and we've won gift cards a few times. There are some old local ladies who sit in the back and like to cheat on their phones, though. read more

We ordered take-out from there so this review is based on that experience only! We went there around 6PM on a weekday ordering 3 burgers to go. We got there and the bartender was really nice and he greeted us and we told them we wanted take out. He was busy with his bar almost full and did not have time to take orders from us. One of the waitresses walked back and forth looking at us like we do not belong there and did not acknowledge our existence whatsoever. We ended up having to wait for the poor bartender to free up some time to come to us to take the order while the waitress was just standing there not wanting to interact with any human being on earth. Will it kill you to take a take-out order and submit it and go about your business? You only had 2 tables of 3 people each! The food was great! The burger definitely packed weight and it was tender and juicy. We would definitely go back if we can have better service or at least if that bartender wasn't so busy. read more
