Kentucky derby nite made us change arrangements. We were originally gonna hit Common market or Darcy's but they were jammed at 6 pm. So we popped in and got a table for 4. Small bar. A few TVs so we could watch Derby. We had a very nice and efficient waitress whose name eludes me. Apps were bourbon wings and nachos. Both were delicious. I got the fried chicken sandwich with fries that was very good. Had a aioli dipping sauce ...fries come in a small bag ...similar to McDonald style. I loved them. Fun Galentines brunch with my daughter. Side parking lot was easy. Sat at high top, casual comfortable atmosphere and clean. Very attentive service. Sangria and Aperol spritz was refreshing! The food delicious! Sunday breakfast was fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon sourdough bread hash browns that were crispy outside and soft inside, and the homemade jam topped it off, wow, soo good. The mushroom Boursin omelet was comfort food at its best. The DIY flower bar was so adorable as was the candy bar. Great time! read more

Ballast is a great place located right next to quincy and Milton. Ots a real hidden gym. Me and my girlfriend love it here. Very low key on Sundays. People are nice and the food is great. Can get busy and loud but for the most part its not obnoxious. Check it out when you can. Andrew is our favorite server. We think hes the best. read more

Food is great. We have ordered the pizza which is very good. The crust is light and fluffy like a focaccia crust, so delicious (we have returned for the pizza a few times). Both the burger and chicken sandwiches are delicious. My only disappointment was the French fries, I will ask for them to be cooked well done next time as both times I have gone they are a little white which tells us the oils is nice and clean but I like them crispy, I guess I just have to remember to ask to leave them in a little longer. The sweet potato fries are also great. The bartender Torrey we have had each time we have visited is very friendly, polite and helpful. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with a light, bright cheery atmosphere with windows that open in the nice weather. Air conditioning worked well during the humid summer days. All good, we will def return! read more

My friend and I had a memorable lunch here earlier, today. We arrived a few minutes after opening and had our choice of high-top seating, table seating, or seats at the bar. We chose a table at a window (and watched the snow falling.) A large TV screen is fitted to one wall. Scattered throughout the restaurant are photos of this block (a century ago, it appears) and mementos from the era when the Quincy Quaries were operating. The lunch menu is healthy and hardy. We started with coffee and "nachos on a sheet." Very colorful serving more than enough for two. (We dug in and still had plenty to take home.) My friend had Short Rib Nachos (2), and I had the Harvest Grain Bowl. Both entrees were elegant in their presentation, filling, and original. Service was omnipresent but not bothersome. We watched the restaurant fill over the hour we were there. There was no rush to make our table available. Lots of parking on the side and (especially) behind the building. We plan to return soon! read more

Me and my buddy rove around Quincy looking for new spots- we've had a fair bit of bad luck, having our orders lost and waitstaff abandon us left and right. Not at Ballast. This place exceeded our expectations right off the bat with its service and food. I highly recommend the rigatoni and their chicken sandwich. Pren is an absolute delight if you have the good fortune to have her as your waitress. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the service industry who makes you feel more at home. read more

I had high hopes. very clean, cute inside..a little chilly from AC on a cool day, but nice. we ordered salmon & a grain bowl/with steak. The salmon was good. The people next to us, also ordered salmon, and their portion was twice the size of our very small portion. ...but ok...it tasted good. sadly, the steak in the grain bowl was as tough as shoe leather. I ate the grains/veggies (some hard uncooked 'roasted" carrots mixed with perfct roasted ones?!) but pushed the steak to the side. I'm not one to compa;in or send things back, but When the bar tender eventually took away our meals, I mentioned the steak was inedible, she asked "want me to ask the owner to take it off the bill?'. um....i didn't come to dinner to barter. Maybe comp me a glass or wine,..or just say sorry, try us again we are new. totally put us off. I wont return. read more

Stopped in to check out this new neighborhood bar. Exceptional service, good food, and great atmosphere. The music was at the perfect level and the crowd was energized, but not over the top. Great to have a conversation with the people you came with. Will definitely be coming back -kind of chill which was nice for a Friday night date night Great bar seating. Was excited to try this place! Interior is nice and aesthetically pleasing, it looks good. The servers were nice ( multiple came to our table, which made ordering food and drinks somewhat confusing ). However, even with multiple waiters/waitresses they were not nearly as attentive as they should have been. It took us an hour to put in our food orders, only after we had been given a warning that the kitchen would be closing soon (we wanted to put in much earlier!) food was mediocre- not good, not bad. Drink menu looked amazing and I was so excited to try, but my drink with muddled mint and strawberries just had some mint leaves and full strawberries thrown in. Not sure that I'll be back as there are many better restaurants in the area ! read more

I am kinda up in the air about this place. I was with some friends and all we had were the wings, burgers and salmon over a salad. No complaints there. Service was good and the drink prices were reasonable. There is something missing...a vibe? Many places you go have a cozy, laid-back or exciting feeling when you enter. Ballast has none. Almost hollow. I chalk it up to being new. I think a hipper customer base would help. Many people there had the mindset of an old person. Anywho, I will give it a try again. read more

First time customers, impression was there were little things that stuck out that were negative. My friend absolutely loved his chicken sandwich, thought it was the best he's ever had. I ordered the brussell sprout salad and had grilled chicken added. The chicken portion was so meager that in order to achieve that thin of a cut and grill it, the result was a dried out, tasteless tiny pieces of strip chicken. I'm not really sure what else was in the salad as everything looked like it was put through a paper shredder. The taste was ok, but honestly, it would be so easy to amp this up with a couple of tweeks and/or an extra $1 in ingredients (check out the brussell sprout salad at the 110 Grill for tips.) Basically, the drink was ok, not filled to the top, and nothing special, definitely a measured shot, yet the price is definitely on the high end. Although another writer didn't like the vibe, to us it was perfect, because the acoustics are good and music is in the background so noise level wasn't so loud that you needed to shout your conversation. The place is very clean and pretty. Parking is easy and ample. I'll go back to try the cheeseburger as that seems to get pretty good reviews. read more
